first off...Don completely sucks...the paint job is terrible, the bike is freakin weak as all hell
and even though the head suclpt is re-used it is still crappier

then we got mikey...hell this is the crappiest thing i have ever bought...the design just sucks...and look at the face..you can see where the plastic seaped out of the mold

and you know how the first wave have softer plastic for the bandadnas..not these...they are molded straight on to the face..lame

i don't know how they did it...but playmates screwed up...the diesns are terrible, the idea is terrbile and the figures suck...they did so good on wave 1 and 2....
if i wasn't a completeist..i would not have got these

Oh well, I'm getting them anyways. I'm a completist.

I may be wrong, but I believe that is supposed to be the chin strap for the helmet, not residue from the mold.

I think you're right. It's just unpainted.

It's a MISTAKE. All copany's do it one time or another. Take GI Joe for example. Te old figs had tons of stuff like this that wasn't painted.

I'm not overly excited about—or pleased with—the designs of these figures, so I'm just gonna have to take a big pass on 'em. Fortunately for me (and my wallet), I'm not a true completist. If it's just not cool enough to suit my personal tastes, I won't feel compelled to spend my money on an item simply because the package has “TMNT” printed somewhere on it . . . which is exactly what I'd be doing in this particular case.

Furthermore, your dollar is your vote. If one doesn't like something, maybe one should seriously consider not buying it. (“Sometimes the things you own wind up owning you.”) If sales are poor for the X-Treme Turtles, Playmates might think twice before hashing out figures like them again.

However, we do have to keep in mind that Playmates’ target demographic for this series of toys is little boys, so we'll most likely see plenty more figures of this nature. If it's enough to keep the line going long enough for Playmates to crank out the figures that I do want to see, I can handle it.

Personally, I'd much rather see other characters that Playmates hasn't produced just yet. I'm also hoping that some kick-ass variants of the Turtles will be made that I will want to buy.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but I'd be curious as to what kind of variants on the TMNT you would be interested in seeing. Because make no mistake, a different pose, different face, just won't cut it if everything else is the same. At a glance they'd appear to be the exact same figure as the "normal" TMNT figures. That's why variants exist: To be distinctive and stand out amongst the rest of the stuff on the shelves.

I know everyone prefers the "normal" versions of the TMNT over everything else, but they did 'em already, they're not doing 'em again. Aside from "Street Clothes" variants, what could they possibly do that would be "realistic" and not piss off the fans?

Here are a few examples:

1. Street Clothes/Purple Dragon Turtles, in which a number of people seem to be interested. I'd probably go for these.
2. Pre-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Not technically "new-toon-based", but it easily could be worked in. This is another that I'd be all over.
3. Mike as the "Turtle Titan" - As with the X-Treme Turtles, I'd pass on this one, but there are others who want this one.

As we all know, the cartoon series on which the action figures are based is still in its infancy. There will undoubtedly be more to come, so we'll all have to wait and see what's in store for us. (For example, the Turtles' upcoming foray into Usagi Yojimbo's reality could present some very interesting possibilities . . . .)

Unless there's some type of gimmick involved, such as the old "Storage Shell Turtles", or an ultra-articulated line, I seriously doubt that Playmates will waste their resources on producing various sculpts and poses of the “standard” Turtles. This is, to them, merely a business. It would be suicidal from a marketing perspective. (Then again, there IS that Spider-Man line . . . . )

Anyway, I'm personally not very interested in alternate poses/facial expressions/etc. and weak variations on what we've already seen. It'll take more than that to get my dollar.

As was the case with the original line of toys, there will most likely be variants that will have absolutely nothing to do with the "purist's” vision of the Turtles, which will indeed piss some fans off. (Like the X-Treme Turtles seem to have done.) Although I don't care for them, figs like this don't get me all bent out of shape—I've got bigger issues to lose sleep over. For me, the answer is pretty simple: pick up the ones that you think look cool and skip the ones that suck.

Or them in the trenchcoats from "The Garbage Man," as a little throwback to the Undercover figures. :)

We just posted (http://www.offthecard.com) news about the next confirmed Turtle variations. And be warned, it's not pretty, despite what the VP of Playmates had to say about them.

I just went wal-mart and found Hun, casey, and 2 xtreme turtles- Leo and don. I dont think theyres that bad. I Really like don because hes articulated better than the rest of the figs, because hes knees bend so he can ride his bike. The only bad thing was the bike and scooter suck. Its hard to get them on good and theyre cheap.
