Does anyone know what the origin of the Turtles in the new movie is going to be?
What I mean is I'm wondering; are these baby turtles mutated into humanoids, or (for what it sounds more and more like) are these human teenagers mutated into turtle-like creatures?
With all this new info for the toy fair and the costume pictures, It sounds like these might might be human teenagers mutated into ninja turtles.
This assumption is based on a few things:
*The fact that they wear clothes
*That they seem to have knowledge and want of "normal" things ie; sunglasses, necklaces, shoes, pizza, etc...
*just the look of the face from the costume, it has a visible nose and lips
* But the biggest piece of evidence is the alleged tattoo; Why and how would Mikey have a tattoo living the sewer his whole life?
anyway, if anyone knows of anything to either prove or disprove this, Thank you!

Don't they ALWAYS have a knowledge and want of 'normal' things? Watching TV, spouting references and catchphrases and eating Pizza isn't a new thing.
Having a nose and slight lips does not mean that they were human. It just means that the design is different. Also....nostril breathing I'm sure.
I'm sure Michelangelo getting a tattoo isn't THAT crazy. Since they have a customized battle ready van at their disposal.

What Stryker said. Many versions of the turtles had them as characters who long to be a part of modern society. They were in part raised by cable TV & American pop culture. The face is a new look, but I imagine nothing more. The tattoo ties in with the clothes, but it could very well be a clan symbol that they all have on them somewhere.

It's not confirmed that they're 15. Judging by the actors and look, I'd guess somewhere around 18 or 19 easy.

I figure the turtles will be well-versed in American culture, and possibly experience crime-fighters, by the beginning of this movie. Having cool stuff doesn't necessarily mean a different origin.

The whole tattoo thing doesn't bother me at all, heck I could see Raph having a sleeve tattoo on one of his arms. I wouldn't be surprised if they were humans that were mutated into turtles. I think it would be a terrible unnecessary change to the origin but they've been so secretive about the movie its breeding all sorts of speculation.

They're not going to be fifteen. I suspect you know that full well.

Cause so many 15 year olds are trained to kill, live in the sewer, were raised by a rat...

I hate the whole argument of "How do they get a tattoo machine in the sewer?!".
It's not like Samoan culture had tattoos hundreds of years before tattoo machines or anything.

If they do that stuff in prison with melted plastic and paperclips, I think Donnie could does machines and figure it out.

Now they're ninjas. How about that?
For real, though, nothing we've seen in the designs so far is out of line for their old origin or implausible on its own, even if it's different. Not the clothes, not a tattoo (which, see above, can work), not the facial features. In fact, nothing about the designs are as shriekingly implausible as, say, the Turtle Van.
Also, I'm guessing the tattoo is indeed a clan symbol. I dig it.

First they were aliens and now they were human?
Disgrace either way.

Yeah very true and all good points
I highly doubt that they are going to 15 or 16
And the more I do think about it, they were pretty connected with the outside world in the first movies. I guess its just the cartoons where they are more disconnected. Although it just seems that in this incarnation they are much more so connected then any other, what with the Van, their lair, and the clothes and such.
For the record, I kinda like the new designs. The face I'm a little iffy about, but I will reserve judgement until we get an actual photo and not a Halloween costume, But I really like the idea of clothes.
But, about my main question, does any one know what their origin is? Has that been released? What does it say in the leaked script?
Thanks!

It really is not that hard to give yourself a tattoo all you need is ink, a needle, and a rag.
My brother gave himself tattoo's when he was 15, still has them. They faded a little but are still there.

Not that I'm 100% versed in Japanese tattoo history, but seeing that Yakuza (or other criminal factions) are known for being tattooed, I could see the Foot having their own riff on that.
Now, if Splinter was in the Foot in this version then getting tattooed may very well be part of his culture that he has passed to down to the turtles. Not that I'm saying that he has a tattoo gun either, chances are he's got a tebori set (http://inkarmy.com/tag/tebori-tattoos). If he can get a hold of the various weapons the turtles use, then I imagine he could knock together one of these!
On the other hand, they makers of the movie might just've went: know what would be totally rad? Turtles with tattoos man! *sniffs line of coke and high 5s all round!*
And another theory may be that gong Mikey here really loves all parts of human culture and really wants to be part of society.. One've his ways of expressing this is by getting inked, using the old compass and Indian ink trick! I know a few folk that done that back in the day (all a bit older than me I might add) and they all done it when they were in their early teens...
Either way, I dig the tattoo!

I think you're being very generous and putting way more thought into this than any one actually making the movie.

That might be true, but fans often do that. Finding ways of interpreting stuff and giving it a deeper analyze then probably the creators did.
Something that just looked cool, can in the right hands be turned into something deep and thoughtful.

Therein lies a large part of the problem with me - it doesn't look cool.
To me it looks like what a bunch of old men think looks cool. It's the kind of boardroom decision making process that the classic Simpsons parodied back in the day when they came up with Poochie the dog. Two simple and successful cartoon designs are married together with a new one with shades and jeans and the like because they think it's what kids want - sound familar?
It's the kind of thinking I'm sure went on in the real world with Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation were we got overly bulky turtles with all unique clothes to differentiate them - sound familiar?

I did. It's uncommon but it happens. Laws or no laws, parental consent and cash payment are known to make things happen.
