View Full Version : Repercussions for Donatello?
I got to thinking about this over the last little while and wanted to hear other's opinions on the matter.
I was watching the repeats of "Mutagen Man Unleashed" a couple weeks back and remember that last scene with Splinter telling Donnie that he needed to let April come back on her own.
Then when I saw "Target: April" all the aftermath of April coming back and Donnie having a direct hand to bringing her back, but after taking everything in I realized something that never occurred during the initial airing of the episode just because it was so good.
Donatello went completely against Splinter's advice and still tried everything he could to bring April back himself. Granted he may have succeeded, but it almost sounds like a potential Splinter moral about letting wounds heal naturally rather and doing too much yourself and potentially reopening those wounds that haven't healed yet.
Know it would seem obvious that Splinter would know what Donatello did for April directly thanked him for his actions to bring her back, meaning that Splinter would know Donnie didn't heed his moral.
Anybody think that this is something or nothing?
Possibly being talked about in the future episodes?
Or possible repercussions for Donnie for bringing April back before those wounds between them completely healed?
Thoughts?

If you're talking about him following her in the city, nah I don't think it'll have repercussions. Splinters moral was something like "you can't make someone do something" right? He didn't really make April do anything. He was just watching over her. And when she realized she needed help, she called him, then after realized she was worn to hold a grudge

Nah, the other moral at the end of the episode.
Where Splinter told Donnie that April's decision to stay away was her choice, and that must let her back when she was ready and to not lose hope.
The fact that he still took matters into his own hands shows that he didn't believe she would ever come back.

Probably not. That would actually give Don some kind of real character growth and as we've learned after a almost a season and a half, that kinda stuff just doesn't happen in this show. Even when the show tries to stick in some kind of valuable lesson or opportunity for the characters to learn something that matters, Don (just like the rest of his brothers), don't seem to ever care or remember it. I was actually pretty excited when Splinter gave Don his little lesson about not being able to force people to like things (or however it went), because it seemed like it was about time Splinter stepped in AND it also seemed time that Don realize his affections for April were never going to be returned. And for awhile there it almost looked like he was going to take this all on and change. But nah. The episode turned right around at the very end and we wound up back where we started. Thanks for learning....uh, anything Don.

Well, I don't see it as disregarding Splinters advice. I mean yeah he was shadowing April when he wasn't supposed to, but he wasn't forcing her or enticing her to come back into their lives or him especially. I took it more that he was trying to tell her "I know did something wrong and your hurting because of it, but we're still here for you, when your ready."
And Casey repeating Donnie's statement of "Somethings are just beyond your control." Helped April realize that she was blowing things out of proportion. Her father was mutated by accident, and she was essentially hating the Turtle's because of something they didn't foresee happening. So in the end, April did decide to come back on her own. Donnie didn't say or do anything to say or do anything to force her to come back. He just did what he would always do regardless of how she felt because he felt it was the right thing to do.
The ending where he's watching April and Casey at the ice rink, I think that was him accepting the fact that April is never going to see him more as a friend.
The kiss on the cheek however that was just friendly appreciation. There was nothing there implying that she liked him better then Casey or returned his feelings. But it did offer a small glimmer of hope that yes he still can be there for her as a friend as a brother, and maybe more if she chooses.

I hope there is some repercussions for Donnie's behavior around April, because...to be honest I think he's treading into dangerous "creepy nice guy" territory.
Him following her after she made it clear that she didn't want to be around them was a very sizable breach of boundaries.

I doubt that's gonna be addressed. Whenever it comes to unrequited love in the media, if the guy is good looking or cute (with Donatello), that behavior is seen as adorable (pursuing his "true" love) or at a minimum, much more tolerated. If Donatello was as visually ugly as Slash, Donatello's behavior would then be seen as creepy, and he would have probably been vilified for it (at least with more of the audience members).

And that's how people like Bieber or Suspect Number Two get fan followings.
"He can't be bad, he's so cute!"
Ugh.

There are some things I'd like to see him get punishments for from this series on his over the top reactions to April / Donnie one sided romance, example he pushes opinions or orders from his leader who often has good ideas on what to do in these types of situations to save April and put others in danger for that.

Well if they have an episode where the Turtles graduate to whatever rank is higher then they are currently, I can see Donnie not being selected for it. After all Leo reports what happens during missions to Splinter, so he would be the one who is reporting that "Donnie was distracted during this mission" or "Donnie abandoned the team in this mission." And even if there was a good reason for it, it's still going to cost him.

This reminds me of that bomber on the Rolling Stone magazine cover, posing like a celebrity. He has a large following of demented teenage fangirls drooling over his physical appearance and totally disregarding his murderous crime.
