In all of the TV and majority of the comic book incarnations, the Turtles already have their trademark weapons and they are comfortable with them. And there is never any questions as to when and how they received said weapons. But this is the first incarnation to really introduce a process of finding ones weapon.

As we learn in Baxter's Gambit the process of finding a weapon can be compared to selecting a wand in the Harry Potter Universe.

From what I've gathered from Baxter's Gambit is that the student selects a weapon that looks of interest to them. (This part of course is pure speculation because we never actually see April Choosing a weapon, however we do see Raph opening a locker that holds several weapons and Slash chooses the mace as his weapon)

The instructor-in this case Splinter- demonstrates the weapon and student in question must show they can effectively use the weapon or automatically get the feeling this weapon is meant to be theirs. As Splinter stated "The weapon chooses you as much as you choose it."

Donnie's feelings towards his bo-staff in metalhead does suggest that it wasn't his first choice when it came to weapons.

So it got me wondering when did the Turtles receive their weapons, and how did this process go for them. Perhaps it is possible that we will see a weapons origin for them.

For me, if the Weapons Origin was to be included, I can see it happening at some point when the Turtles are Turtle Tweens or maybe as a way of celebrating their 13th Mutation day.

I can see Splinter calling the Turtles individually to the Dojo. Leo, Raph, & Mikey all naturally gravitate to their weapons. Donnie on the other hand was much like April in that he goes through several weapons that do not choose him. And finally Splinter suggests the bo staff. However unlike April who automatically senses the tessen is meant to be her weapon. Donnie is a bit reluctant on trying to out the Bo-staff before realizing that is the weapon that has chosen him as it's master.

if there was an episode

I'd imagine they'd all have different challenges.

maybe Leo chooses the katana....but they are a little dangerous?

Mikey chooses the nunchucks cause they seemed cool, but they end up hitting him more than anything else.

Donnie, like you said doesn't want the bo even though he's better suited for it.

maybe Raph wants ALL the weapons XD and can't choose.

Something like that would be fun. I'd like to see and hear more about the turtle's early years in general.

A weapons origin would be neat if they did it.

I thought Nick already did something like this in their online comics? ='.'=

I love the idea. The little Turtle in Training figure style would be ADORABLE if they were in it.

Not only would I like to see this, but I'd like to see episodes where the boys switch up their weapons, and also show which is their best secondary weapon, and maybe see which Turtle can adapt the best to all of the weapons.

Talking about weapons, it was just me who find strange Raph having a morningstar his closet in "Slash and Destroy" ?

But indeed would be very cool if we had that sort of ep. But honestly, I don't think that will happen. The ep where they switch weapons was kind of that. Almost I mean.

Am I the only one who wondered why Raph had a pair of kamas along with all his other gear in the season 1 finale? It seems like he's a bit of a weapons nut- or is that just me? Mikey apparently still has a thing for smoke bombs, too, as we saw in the Rat King ep. He double-dipped into the bowl, LOL!

We know the Toddler Turtles are coming (the toys are out already), so maybe they'll introduce that story.

I haven't watched all of the series yet, I'm about 3/4 of the way done in season one.

But still, you know, I always thought that a Ninja master was also the master of using anything as a weapon, not just their favorite. It would be nice to see maybe an episode where one of them has to fall back and use one of his brother's weapons in battle.

A weapons origin feels like it could indeed be possible at least in Donnie's case as often we see people making jabs at him because of his weapon.

For example Casey calling tauntingly calls Donnie "Stick Master" in Fungus Humongous. And the recent one hour special Rockwell condescendingly does say "...with that little stick of yours."

And some fans

So at the very least we're going to see revisit the "Donatello doubts his weapon" plot.

Though it would be cool to see them all think back to when they received their weapons and wonder why their weapons chose them.
