With Valentines being on Friday, I wanted to know how every one interpreted the relationship the Turtles have with one another.

I know logically since Valentines is a lovers holiday this should be about Don O'Neil, Capril, Donnie/April/Casey. But there are plenty of threads about that.

These are how I see the Turtles and family relating to one another. If you have other views or interpretations I'd love to see about them.

These are how I interpret their relationships.
Rap/Leo

With Raph he has a love/hate relationship with his older brother. He respects his older brother. But I strongly believe that being the second oldest he constantly feels as though he is in his Leo's shadow. A lot of his aggression stems from insecurities that makes him feel as though that if he isn't aggressive his efforts aren't noticed. He and Leo also have differing views of when it comes to the team and how it should be lead. In New Girl In Town he seems to equate leadership with getting others to do what he wants but later learns that there is more to it then having ones own way.

Leo respects Raph and thinks of him as one of his best friends. However he finds Raph's temper to be problematic for the safety and detriment of the team. He often wishes Raph would follow his impulsiveness less and learn to listen to direction more. Leo views on the team is that they are his responsibility so the mission and the safety of the team is paramount and anything else is secondary.

Donnie/Leo

Like previous incarnations Donnie and Leo are buddies. However in 2012 version their companionship is somewhat testier then previous incarnations. Donnie in general loyally trusts Leo as a big brother and leader, but will have his rebellious moments. Like the rest of his brothers, Donnie does feel that Leo takes his training too seriously at times. Donnie has shown there is some strain in his relationship with Leo, which is present in Alien Agenda as he was the only Turtle who was rather appalled that Leo didn't inform them about Karai. In fact I would wager that when he says "I'm surprised you didn't trust us enough to tell us." he is actually saying "I'm surprised you didn't trust 'Me' enough to talk about this." And how this strain will affect their friendship in the future is still up in the air, but it will likely resurface again. Donnie also has shown that he can read Leo in certain ways for example in parasitica Donnie was the first one who began sensing something was amiss with Leo.

Leo's relationship with Donnie is also fairly good natured. I believe Leo feels a sense of balance with Donnie being having a calmer personality then Raph or Mikey. And I believe Donnie is the person Leo does go to talk about things that he doesn't feel comfortable discussing with Raph or feels is important enough be brought to Master Splinter. Leo does appreciate Donnie's skills in science and engineering as Donnie has made weapons and vehicles such as the Shellraiser which have been useful for the team. However Donnie's inventions have been known to cause problems for the team as well. He also has a very by the book view when it comes to Ninjitsu, so things like technological gimmickry have little place in Ninjtitsu in his mind. Like the rest of the team he has gotten annoyed by the way Donnie's need to explain every little detail about things and he gets frustrated when Donnie has to deal with something technical and he feels Donnie isn't working fast enough. Leo also has been known to view Donnie as a weaker fighter so he will have Donnie t. When it comes to Donnie's relationship with April, he is supportive not because he feels that Donnie and April will end up together. But rather that April is someone who makes his younger brother happy and he feels he doesn't have any right to stand in the way of that. At the same time he finds it bothersome because Donnie is easily distracted on missions by his need to protect April. And has one occasion has abandoned his brothers to go save her.

Mikey/Leo

Mikey looks up to Leo as an older brother and has a firm sense of loyalty. But he also thinks Leo should learn to think less by the book and go with the flow a lot more. As much as he likes to tease his older brother, he also feels bad if he feels the teasing has gone to far. He also doesn't like the fact that Leo along with the rest of his brothers don't take him seriously.

Leo sees Mikey as a bratty baby brother. He cares about each of his brothers equally but wishes Mikey would learn to grow up and focus on his training more. Since Mikey is the youngest, Leo is protective of him and has saved Mikey from a near death experience in the finally. Like the rest of the Turtles, Leo does find Mikey's methods and ideas childish or ill thought out but occasionally will find one of Mikey's ideas to be stupid enough to work.

Raph/Donnie

This one is hard to really figure out as they don't interact all that often. While Raph acts out towards Leo is in Jealousy and Mikey due to the fact that he pushes Raph's buttons. It's harder to pin point where his issues are with Donnie and at times it's feels like misdirected rage over anything else. Raph I believe sees himself as a realist, some evidence of this is during the times he is shown being annoyed by Donnie's idealistic crush on April. I don't see Raph being against Donnie and April being a couple, however he doesn't see it going anywhere other then Donnie getting hurt in the end. Like Leo he is also annoyed about how much of a distraction April can be for Donnie which is another reason he doesn't like Donnie's crush on April. So in his mind the sooner Donnie realizes that he and April will never be the better. Raph is easily annoyed by Donnie's technobable as he doesn't have the patience to figure it out nor the interest to care. And once has pointed out Donnie uses technology as an alternative to fighting. But he will admit that some of Donnie's inventions do have their uses. While Raph is largely abrasive to his immediate younger brother, he has shown he cares about Donnie as well:such as giving Donnie all the credit in Operation: Break out, his attempts at comforting Donnie when the Purple Masked Turtle was suffering from heart break, and tending to Donnie's injuries after the Slash had pounded him and left him for dead. Raph has been known to view Donnie as a weaker fighter and has moments where he may as well have called Donnie a useless ninja.

Donnie has a oil and water relationship with Raph. He cares about his older brother and will go out of his way to help him. But at the same time he feels that Raph has a very prejudicial view when it comes to Donnie's efforts for the team. Donnie at times does take a lot of flack and humiliation from Raph, and while Leo and Mikey will dish it back or dispute it. Donnie more often then not stands there and takes it. One example being Slash & Destroy where Raph is yammering at Splinter about how a certain incident was all Donnie's fault and that he needs to clean up the mess on his own. The entire time Donnie just stands there and listens. Perhaps there will be a situation planned where Donnie does finally snap and lashes out at Raph. Or worse yet have something happen to Donnie and Raph feeling regretful for not being a better brother to Donnie.
