Mine is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze While I get they make it a lot more kid friendly and more cheesy, I just find the movie to be a lot of fun :) The first movie has the best story but gets pretty slow toward the middle, the third movie just sucks, the fourth animated movie is a good movie but gets nowhere near the fun of the 2nd movie. While the 2nd movie is a lot more kid friendly than the others and a lot more cheesy, I just find it a lot of fun and I can watch it over and over again.

but best and most accurate the first, my favorite is the same. Loved the second movie, 3rd was alright and I really enjoyed "TMNT" as well.

The first one, because it was true'ish to the comics.
Second is "Turtles Forever" for being the most glorious bit of fanservice I've ever seen. Wish they could have gotten the OT voice actors, but...contracts be contractual.
I think third is the CGI, because as I've said else-thread, for the first time the turtles moved on the screen like they did in my imagination. Plus we got Mako as Master Splinter, it gave us the roof fight with Leo and Raph, and had great Casey Raph moments. Still, hands down, my favorite version of Leonardo.

This is almost exactly what I would have written, so I'll just co-sign.

I don't see why Turtles Forever should be removed from the list of potentials. I mean...I saw it in a room of 50+ people where seats were lined up in rows and the movie itself was projected onto a screen.
SO I say it counts.

TMNT II:Secret of The Ozze. It has Shredder and mutants. Its fun but still an air of serious and continuity. No other movie has Shredder plus! That is the biggest draw back of both the third and fourth film, made-for-movie villains! Who does that especially whne you have so many already?

I didn't say I disliked it, it gets a lot of underserved slack. and turtles forever is a movie and you can vote for it but it wasn't on the big screen.

1. TMNT (1990)
I still remember being completely fascinated, as well as excited, that we were going to get a bona fide live action Turtles movie prior to the films released date. Anything featuring images from the movie completely held my attention. As I recall my parents buying the novelization (atleast I think it was going based purely on memory) and me basically looking at the cover (which was the movie poster) over and over again. The film itself, did not disappoint, as I was completely enthralled by it. Though somewhat taken aback on how it differed from the Fred Wolf series. Which, I didn't find a negative in the least bit.
2. Turtles Forever
Even though I enjoyed what I saw of the 2003 animated series, I wasn't really a big follower of it, but upon hearing of TF, I definitely made it a point in checking it out. Especially with the addition of the Fred Wolf OT Turtles, which I grew up watching. Ultimately, I thought it was a good, though not perfect effort, but sincerely one that was a good swan song for both of the animated eras, and just overall, fun.
3. TMNT II: Secret of the Ooze (1991)
Enjoyable enough, especially since at the time I only knew of the Fred Wolf OT Turtles, but the quality dip from the 1990 effort to this was painfully noticeable, and I do recall being disappointed that we ended up with stand ins for Bebop & Rocksteady, despite the obvious Fred Wolf OT influence with this one.
...
4. TMNT (2007) and 5. TMNT III (1993). :)

The first movie is my favorite. It's not overly gritty and it's not too goofy either. In short, it's everything I love about the Ninja Turtles. I've seen the movie so many times, I could say all the lines along with the characters.

Steve Barron's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie.
I love all the subtlety in it...but then again it may be my personal bias reading WAY too much into the tone of lines and animatronic facial expressions.

Secret of the Ooze comes in at a close second :tlol:

First one by far, nothing else even a close second. They literally wasted no time turning the film franchise into a parody of itself within the first few minutes of the second movie, rather than explore some of the deeper threads the first one opened up. And that always bothered me. It was like going from Burton's Batman to "Batman and Robin" without any "Batman Forever" buffer to ease the transition. Very jarring.
It's gone in and out of fashion as years pass to over-hate AND over-love the second film, but objectively speaking, it's just not good unless you're a hardcore TMNT fanatic. They're all like that, really, except the first. The first was actually a "good movie" that people who weren't even fans enjoyed. None of the rest can say anything like that.
At best, the sequels are "passable kids movies that parents could sit through with their kids without wanting to kill themselves, but would never watch otherwise." I know that's technically fine, but since the first movie proved that you CAN achieve something greater than that with TMNT, I've always hoped someone with similar ambitions would one day at least attempt another TMNT movie that wasn't entirely for children.
The second one probably would have a better legacy if the first one never existed. It probably would have been exactly what everyone had expected of a TMNT movie, except the first one showed you didn't HAVE to make it all slapstick and camp. The people working on the sequels simply felt it safer and easier to play to the lowest common denominator instead and that always made me sad.

I have recently watched all the TMNT movies, and I think that the first one is the best so far: there's Casey, the Shredder, the conflict between Leo and Raph etc.
But as a kid I enjoyed "The secret of OOZE" more, because its spirit was closer to the cartoon I loved.

1. TMNT 2007.
Best interactions between Turtles and very good voice acting. Rather small focus on humans. Absolutely awesome "camera work". Yeah, the whole Stone Generals plotline felt rather unnecessary, but I think this movie was not about Turtles saving the world, but more about Turtles sorting their relationship. In this aspect movie was very good, so I can forgive few minor problems with it. Bonus points for having Karai as leader of the Foot Clan.
2. TMNT 1990.
Good movie. Awesome costumes, rather faithful adaption of the comic book story. Wonderfull 80s atmosphere. However, sometimes slang and the like felt quite annoying or at least not very entertaining.
3. TMNT2
Without darkness of the first movie, this one has become quite childish. It's not bad, but overall movie looked somewhat like live action adaptation of the OT episode. Once again it's not bad on its own, but after first movie it was rather a sudden change and not expertly done either. It's a good movie for pure entertainment, but not for anything else.
4. TMNT3
A controversial one. On its own movie is good. There is nothing REALLY bad about it. Costumes maybe a bit worse, than in previous films, but not horrible. Plot, while drastically different, is not outlandish (for the Turtles series). Everything else, was also decent. But it's main problem that it was boring. It's pacing is slow, interactions with humans (which should have been heartwarming) doesn't leave any kind of impression, and worse of all, there is no interesting villain. While Shredder in the past movies was not really much of a character, but rather an evil function, he definitely impressed. In TMNT3 there is simply no figure with such presence. Combined with other problems this movie falls to the bottom of my list.
Though I always will applaud people behind this movie for trying to do something different with Turtles rather then ressurecting Shredder once again or creating more mutants. It was bold decision, that wasn't executed well, but in this case it's the intention that counts.

If we're including Turtles Forever and not just the theatrical movies I really have to say Turtles Forever is my favorite.
I know some think they overly exaggerated the OT turtles but I didn't think it was that bad. They were just poking fun. They weren't blunt insults.
I really think it was best thing ever done for hardcore fans. It brought everything full circle imo. It was just so well put together. Everything blended despite there being so much.

First movie, of course. You just can't top the original!
Second- I just don't get why the third film doesn't get more love. I agree with a lot of what Sumac said- I loved the different direction and the story, I liked the time-travel aspect and all the subtle twists involved in that, and I enjoyed the tone and balance between goofy and serious. (For all some people complain about the "goofy" factor, it also had some very heart-felt moments between Raph and Yoshi, Mikey and Mitsu, and April and Whit.)
I would probably rate the other two about even, as I like both, but not as much as #1 and #3.

wow this is harder to rank than I thought it would be.
1.) the first movie for sure. to me it hits the sweet spot of tmnt perfectly. a balance between gritty and silly. it had its comedic moments but there was still gravity and drama to what was going on. I've come to appreciate it even more for trying to prove to the world the turtles could be more than kids stuff
2.) turtles forever because it was the swan song to an era man. a shoutout to every turtleverse up to that point. it was great just to see the turtles of my childhood and the turtles as I've come to know and love them interact. and then the mirage turtles show up and intimidate everybody. I do wish they could've got the original voice actors for the old skool turtles and not have made them as goofy but overall the nostalgia was of the charts
3.) secret of the ooze. when I was a kid this was actually my favorite but I ended up growing out of it as I got older. even still despite all the things I wish this movie would've been it still takes me right back to childhood when I watch it. I can still quote every word of it and I consider the go ninja go dance not only one of the best moments in turtle history but the most epic bro dance in film history period
4,) tmnt 3. kind of the same as soto. it doesn't really hold up well but the nostalgic value is ridiculously high. I still remember trying to do high foots with my cousin and I watched the vhs so much it broke in my vcr. to this day I can't hear rocking over the beat or tarzan boy without wanting to play some super nintendo and watch some snick
5.) tmnt. it was ok for what is was. I liked the animation and the plot about the turtles coming back together especially the stuff about leo and raph's relationship. but the randomness of the villains along with how uninteresting they were drag it down to me. also I wish donnie and mikey could've gotten more focus. it was called tmnt not leo and raph afterall and I say that with leo being my favorite turtle.

1. TMNT (2007 CGI)
The fighting scene between Raph and Leo was so stunning.

definitely the first, the grittiness of the film reminded me of the old renaissance paintings, so much chiaroscuro, strong darks that really make the light pop. not to mention the first film was before the parents complained about the violence. All that being said, i really love them all, lots of nostalgia

Without hesitation, the first one (1990 movie) is my favorite. Donatello's humor combined with Michelangelo's makes me laugh every time.
I didn't like Raphael's attitude in the movie--it just felt too dark and uncaring. It wasn't until he went through April's skyline that helped him change his emotions.
I liked the 3rd one only because the actor that played Donatello in the first one returned--I didn't like the actor in the 2nd one.

This topic has been posted before since the fourth movie, but I'd still say 1990, SoTo, 2007, and finally Turtles in Time. The first remains the definitive movie that resulted in the peak of Turtlemania. The plot, acting, effects, stunts, and props/backgrounds are all above average, even if critics at the time dissed it at the time as being a bit too kiddy. I would watch the second movie more though due to its closer relation to the OT, and still gives me that "what could have been" feeling for the final battle given how cheap it feels after a good first half of the movie. The fourth movie is sort of the weird one to me, but is just fun to watch even if not my favorite. Finally, I could use the AVGN to tell you how poorly the third movie was done, though at least I could laugh at the flaws as I watch it, especially the "Help! I've fallen" reference.
I don't consider Turtles Forever as an actual movie since it is a series finale of 4kids that is three episodes in length. But it does a decent job of bridging the universes, and I'd rank it second right behind the first movie, since the final battle is really something it delivers that SoTO doesn't.
