Forgive me if this belongs in off topic. It might be a bit of a stretch to truly be TMNT discussion, but....

So I'm sitting here at the last home stretch of the day for work and I am STARVING. So naturally, looking at a few turtle threads make me want pizza.

Thought I'd post the question...where's your favorite place to get pizza and what's your pie of choice?

For me, it's a local place here in the Arlington, TX area called Old School Pizza. They have a great hand tossed that's a little on the thick side of crust and they always layer it with sauce, then toppings, THEN cheese. You're unlikely to have the toppings fall off since they're under the blanket of cheese. And it's debatable that it's BETTER when re-heated on a pizza stone in the oven.

I've always favored the 3 meat pizza of pepperoni, hamburger, and canadian bacon myself.

Pizza Hut is my "I'm starving and it's 5 minutes from home" option and I want cheap pizza. Tombstone for frozen pizza.

How about you guys?

But back in Italy everything was different of course....

But back in Italy everything was different of course....

I'd order Domino's more often if they were closer. :D

Why "like a real turtle?" They were partnered with Pizza Hut for marketing in the past too. ;)

I've read about how different it is in Italy....I want to have some true Italian pizza one day though. And I need a Boston and NY pizza actually IN Boston and New York. We have local places here owned by New York natives, but I gotta have a slice in the Big Apple someday.

......and it's 5. Must resist desire for pizza....

When I lived in NYC the best was a place under the brooklyn bridge called Grimaldi's. It's starting to become a chain, but the original is by far the best.

In los angeles I'm partial to a place called lamonica's because it's good, friendly, well priced and nearby.

I love pineapple on pizza but dislike canadian bacon, so not a fan of what most would call a "hawaiian." When I was in college we ordered a specific pizza (lots of delicious toppings, pineapple included) from the nearby Domino's so often that we got them to name it after me as an off menu item. All you had to do was call up and ask for it by name. Kind of embarrassing, but I'm proud of it as one of my "most turtle like" moments. :tpizza:

Frank Pepe's is my favorite, gotta love that fresh, brick oven pizza. All the ingredients just taste more "real" than most pizza places...like, after eating Frank Pepe's, the cheese on other pizzas tastes fake/cheaper to me. They have a lot of topping options...but my favorite will always be mozzarella, chicken and mushroom...so good! Their white clam pizza is also really tasty! :tpizza:

Here's some pics I found off google:

Margherita:

I don't really like Pizza Hut or Dominos...that's what I call "fake" pizza...I mean, I'll eat their pizza if there's no other options or anything, but I don't think they'd ever be my first choice. Well, now I'm hungry...

Domino's too thin and plain for me, and the service is always rude.

Pizza Hut! It's probably not like those mom and pop stores everyone raves about but it's all I know. lol My pizza of choice would have to be peperoni with extra cheese on thin crust. Now Papa John's was alright in college depending on who made it. I'd get a plain cheese on hand tossed but enjoyed peperoni with extra cheese on thin crust there as well. It was cheaper than Pizza Hut especially with the good ole student discount. Now I'm craving pizza! All I got is Red Baron peperoni with some store bought pizza cheese to add before throwing in the oven, but that brand is good too. Guess I'll be tasting the legend this evening.

Let's see, Domino's is alright as is Little Caesar's. I'd love to go to NYC and try to find the best pizza place around. Bet there are some terrific local joints there. You don't see too many local pizza joints in Tx or Arkansas. I've been to Chicago but didn't get around to trying their pizza. Sounds messy, but I bet I'd like it.

Pizza Hut is so disgustingly bad, I don't know how anybody can call that pizza. Maybe it's just the location here. I like their breadsticks though.

There's a place here in Merced called Pizza Villa that tops all the chains that are here. The old man still owns and runs it. It's always the go-to pizza for me.

Just ordered from a local place called Myle's, which is more chicago style. I eat pretty much any of the chains, and they are usually my goto, but I prefer local most places I go. I've had and enjoy both styles (New York and Chicago) and if it were my last pizza ever I'd go with New York. As for toppings always pepperoni and if there are other meats involved I am ok with those too. Not big on vegetables on the pizza.

My favorite pizza chain is Papa Gino's. My favorite pizzas from there include their rustic pepperoni pizza, sweet tomato and ricotta, and plain cheese pizza.

My favorite local pizza joint is a place down the street from me called Galaxy Pizza. My favorite pizza from there is their sliced linguica (Portuguese sausage) and onions pizza, delicious! The linguica is sliced like pepperoni, which I prefer over ground linguica (which is a common pizza topping around here).

Hahah, good point. It's funny that Domino's was IN the movie yet Pizza Hut seemed to have all the promotional partnership going back then.

I'm happy to see how many responses have a good local pizza place. Local places will beat chains 9.95 times out of ten.

I shouldn't have, but I opted for a Tombstone for myself tonight.

Zpizza! They have the Vegan Berkley pizza (love!). If you request it, they are willing to make any version of the pizza on the menu vegan style. You can also get gluten free crusts from them if you want. They also use organic tomatoes. And when I order delivery from work, they are across the street so they don't charge a fee. (Also, so there's no confusion, there's a vegan version of cheese called d'aiya that is used, so it's not just tomato sauce and veggies-- though, I've had THAT with a rice crust and it was to die for!)

AND when they come and get change from us, they give us free breadsticks (and not the cheesy ones since they know I don't eat cheese). So, much LOVE to Zpizza! :tgrin:

I always think of Greg Cipes whenever I think of anything vegan. At least I seem to remember hearing he was either a vegan or vegetarian. Bet that guy has some mean pizza recipes! Ah man, Zpizza does sound vaguely familiar! Now I'm tempted to see what I can find regarding this chain because I'd almost swear we passed by one in Tx. Yup, I see there are around 3 or so in Austin where I had to travel in order to take my Teachers' certification exam. No wonder it sounds so familiar. There are about 5 or so in Tx. Wish they'd expand their chain here. I'll have to order from one when I head to Austin in April to do more testing.

Pizza and Turtles do make one heck of a combo. Used to dislike pizza when I was a kid. People kept shoving supreme pizza at me which I never liked to begin with, but once I crossed paths with peperoni and cheese as well as plain cheese it was love at first bite. Not sure if some chains still do this, but I also remember dessert pizzas back in the day. Pizza Hut just does... oh some kind of Hershey breadsticks, I think. I never order dessert because I always feel guilty ordering out to begin with. haha Those Cookie Cakes from Great American Cookies would pass for excellent dessert pizzas, I guess.

I like Pizza Hut and Little Caesar's the best. Haven't had Domino's in years. I also liked pizza from a place called Hungry Howie's. Not sure if they're still around, but they were good. Another pizza place I liked was called Godfather's, but they closed down in Michigan City, which sucks because their stuff was good. Also like pizza from a place called Jimmy's as those are good, too. They have chains in Chicago, but they have one by me, so that's where we sometimes will get pizza as well as another place called Wana-Pizza. Good stuff.

As for favorite types, I mostly like cheese and meat pizzas. No veggies for me.

They've got a really good thin crust but I also like their thick crust. Not too fond of the one by my mom's whenever I go to visit in Tn. Seems like they literally dust the tops of their pizzas with some sort of seasoning. A little would probably suffice but those guys really pour it on, whatever it is. The Domino's around here is great though.

I seem to have really bad luck with people burning the bottom of my pizza. I even tell them directly. "Please don't cook my pizza too long. Every pizza place I go to anymore burns the bottom of my pizza." I always get the same response; they laugh about it and tell me I have nothing to worry about...and then I get my pizza and it's still burnt on the bottom.

I've been to over ten pizza places lately; all of them have burnt the bottom of my pizza. Seriously, I've never had this problem in the past, why is it that every Pizza Parlor/Italian Restraunt I go to anymore do this? Is it just me and that people really like the taste of burnt crust on their pizza? Is that what the kids are into these days?

I guess I just have bad luck.

Yeah, I looked it up and Greg Cipes has been a vegetarian since he was 8 and a vegan since '09 (according to wikipedia a couple other sites). Mikey is the character I'd most like to see become a vegetarian (at least!). Must be fate, LOL! So many tv shows are having characters that are vegetarian or vegan. Last cartoon that had a vegetarian that I can recall was Judy from Doug and that was forever ago.

I almost forgot about dessert pizzas; I used to eat them all the time as a kid-- I think it was CiCis' (or Sicily's) pizza or something that had them, they were popular in Biloxi, MS where I lived at the time. I had another dessert pizza a few years ago but it just wasn't the same.

Turtles and pizza definitely go together! :tgrin:

I have a tun of relatives in MS! Come to think of it, CiCi's did have some amazing dessert pizzas. Wish I could remember how the actual pizza tastes. But anywho, my cousins in MS were crazy about CiCi's from what I remember. We had a few of those around Arkansas when I used to live there as well. Haven't seen any in Tx though. There was a local joint close to us called Pizza Patron which was pretty good but they closed a while back. There's another pizza placeclose to me but you buy them frozen and cook them yourself. Looks like they sell vegan pizzas too. Pretty cost effective from what I'm seeing on their menu. I'll have to give that place a shot. They do very good business from what I've been hearing. Mikey being a vegetarian would give him an excuse to utter the classic phrase,"I crave pizza no more." I'd forgotten about Doug's sister being a vegetarian. There's also Lisa Simpson.

I may be biased, but my go-to for chain restaurants is Papa John's- but then, my hubby and I worked there for over three years, and the town I lived in had all three major chains (PJ's, PH, and Dom) as well as Pizza Inn, and our PJ's was the best chain in town (at least according to our customer base- many of them came over to us from those "other" places....) When the PJ's closed down- due to the owner's IRS issues, not any fault of the store itself- strangely enough, many of those customers drifted to the Dominoes (which the hubby and I also ended up working for). When we both quit, they started loosing business.... Have no idea why. :trazz::twink:

Unfortunately, there is no PJ's where I live now, so it's either CiCi's or Pizza Hut. Both are pretty decent, but I like CiCi's better for the variety and the dessert pizzas.

When I was a kid, there was a place called Mama's Pizza in my hometown, that was AWESOME! A little mom and pop place, only had two stores. Here in my current "home" there is a place called Varona's which is pretty good when you want a "real" pizza.

Yeah, CiCi's was really popular when I was there, over half our church would go there, it was like an extended sermon with food, LOL!

When I was in college my roommates and I dared each other into eating what we called "Ninja Turtle Pizza."

It was pepperoni pizza with lots of ice cream, chocolate sauce, and marshmallows on top. The other guys weren't sure how they felt about it (it's a pretty strange combo.) But no one hated it.

I tend to vary my styles of pizzas, but I generally like pepperoni and cheese the most, with the occassional peppers, sausage, and olives mixed in. For my last birthday I went to a Pizzeria Uno (it's more of a chain now), and I'll have to say they had the best deep dish pizza I ever had. In terms of NY style pizza, I enjoy Grotto's Pizza of Delaware whenever I am over there and really like the ingredients. I dislike Domino's the most in terms of restaurant pizza, and Tony's since that feels cheap. I like thin California-style pizza and enjoy that the most with many toppings.

I love Pizza Hut. You never know who's going to be cooking your pizza though, so sometimes ya get a good one and sometimes not. For instance, a guy working at one around here tells us he doesn't put hardly any tomato sauce on pizzas he makes because it's the way he eats it. Then another fellow in my home town said that he piles peperoni on because it's the way he likes it. The same thing happened with one in Memphis where a friend of mine works, only with a tun of cheese involved. They were all pretty great sans the first one. I'm wondering if going by the book is actually enforced at most Pizza Hut locations or what. I like mine with a medium amount of sauce, peperoni, and extra cheese so I haven't really come across a pizza I haven't liked sans the one with hardly any sauce at all. lol Do the managers just let everyone go nuts in the kitchens at times? Am I missing something?

We've got a pretty awesome Pizza Hut, lucky for us. We also like Little Caesar's because of how cheap those hot and readies are. I've never tried a thin crust-- which is my favorite, from Caesar's before. Need to get around to that some day. My first choice in pizza will usually be Pizza Hut, but I'm dying to try NY and Chicago style pizza. There's this pizza place in nearly every shopping mall ya go to over here in the states. They are about as commonplace as Great American Cookies, and don't get me started on how excellent their cheesecake brownies are. Come see me in the currently eating thread and then we'll talk. Anywho, I forget the name of said pizza place, but they also make a great pie. Well, I like em anyway. The heck is that place called? It's going to be bugging me all evening!
