Could this be the Director's Cut version we've been promised?
I was hoping for something to come out with the movie in August. Maybe since the 2014 is coming out in Oct. the UK is getting the Director's cut 1990 movie then, meaning it'll come out sooner in North America.

We were never promised a director's cut. Barron and Laird have both mentioned having an early assembly cut of the film on VHS, and the documentary director mentioned working on an extended cut. The material is obviously there, but there's never been any official word on it being released. Fingers crossed, though!

While this idea would be awesome, the rating is pg and directors cut are useually unrated, plus the films run time is at 87 min wich is how long the normal verion is (actually its 95 min with credits). So it wont be a directors cut but hopefully it will be loaded with speacial features and deleted scenes.......8)

Kevin announced they were working on an "alternate cut" at Comikaze last year. It makes sense for it to come out around October in the UK as that is when the reboot will be showing over there. It's what happens with all reboot franchises, the inevitable bluray re release leading up to the reboot release. All the Sami Rami Spider-man films got a bluray re release with ultraviolet just the other week, preemptive of TASM 2. I work in a DVD/Bluray store so I'll look into furture listings ect when I get to work and see what I can come up with.

Product Description is confusing:
"In this live action movie-length version of the famous four, The Evil Shredder has returned to cause more mayhem and kidnaps the rat Ninja Master. But the Turtles have been armed with Professor Perry's Anti Mutant antidote and, with the help of a journalist, embark on an adventure to save the Ninja Master."
It sounds like TMNT 1 and 2 mixed together.

First, if it was a special edition, it's a Blu-ray in the UK. So not much use to most people in the US who don't own a region free Blu-ray player (and there are quite a bit of movies that get special edition blu-rays overseas but not here, for example Streets of Fire, People Under the Stairs, Hell Comes to Frogtown, etc.).
And second, the title of the thread is at least a little bit misleading since there is nothing said on that page that would indicate that it was a 'special edition' version at all. It could easily just be the Blu-ray version of what was in Germany (with the alternate ending and director's commentary), or just another barebones release like usual.

Those instant classics got released on special edition overseas?
:o
Yep. Streets of Fire has a feature length documentary. People Under the Stairs has interviews with the director, actors, and such. Hell Comes to Frogtown has features including an interview with Roddy Piper.
But again, the blu-rays are only Region B (aka in the UK).

And these are the features:
◾Grappling with Green Gargantuans: Wrestling icon “Rowdy” Roddy Piper speaks about his leading man turn in Hell Comes to Frogtown (22:12 in HD)
◾Amphibian Armageddon: Actor Brian Frank remembers his role as Commander Toty (14:10 in HD)
◾Creature Feature Creator: Effects wizard Steve Wang reveals the secrets behind Hell Comes to Frogtown’s mutant manifestations (15:25 in HD)
◾Extended Scene (02:31 in HD)
◾Original Trailer (01:51 in HD)
◾Reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Jeff Zornow

It's out of stock and the next batch will be the final batch they will ever get. Only 1000 are made. The region lock on this disc can be bypassed on some blu-ray players (http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=238288)

I haven't heard anything about this release, but just to let you know.... Many studios release their titles Region Free. WB/New Line movies are pretty much all region free, so if it was a UK exclusive you could most certainly import it and it would play fine in any US/Region 1 player. Just an FYI.

That is not true to be honest. All the Blu-rays I mentioned (Streets of Fire, Hell Comes to Frogtown, People Under the Stairs) are not Region Free. They are strictly Region B aka Region 2. I've had this confirmed (because I enjoy those films, wanted to own them, but unfortunately they will not play in Blu-ray players in the US unless you have a region free Blu-ray player). Even stuff I wanted like the Blu-ray of From Dusk till Dawn overseas (which is in Germany. I wanted it since it has a brand new interview with George Clooney) will not play in a US Blu-ray player (again, unless you have a region free one).
In the info box on that Amazon/UK site, it clearly says "Region B aka Region 2". So it will not play in a US Blu-ray player. Even WB films like the 2-disc special edition of Creepshow are strictly Region 2, so not all of them are (and I understand that you said 'pretty much' and not 'every single one').

Actually, it's VERY true! I have thousands of movies on Blu-ray and a large portion of them are WB releases. I'd be willing to bet that all of them are Region Free. I also buy a lot of them from the UK (especially shows like Supernatural and other WB shows) because I get them cheaper from the UK than here in the US. And no, I don't own a region-free Blu-ray player. All of my players are region 1.
None of the films you mention are WB releases (I believe they are all released by companies like SECOND SIGHT or ARROW FILMS). I was referring to WB releases. Some of the films may be WB releases here in the states, but in other countries they sometimes get released by other studios. Of the films you just mentioned, I assume you are referring to the UK editions. Here's the details of each:
1)People Under the Stairs - Released by ARROW films. Arrow locks all of their movies as far as I know. In the US this would be a Universal Film, not WB.
2)Creepshow - UK version is released by a studio called Second Sight, not WB. The US version IS a WB release and IS region-free.
3)Streets of Fire - another Second Sight release. It's actually a Universal film in the US, not WB and has yet to see a Blu-ray release, only HD-DVD (which I have).
4)Hell Comes to Frogtown - Another ARROW release and as always, region LOCKED.
5)From Dusk Till Dawn - The theatrical release is a Dimension Films release. The US Blu-ray is ECHO BRIDGE which also happens to be region-free, even though it's not WB which was the company I was saying is almost always region-free. The German version you mention is released by Studio Canal, which I believe typically locks their discs.
So...none of the movies you mention are WB releases at all. I was simply stating that WB as far as I know has always been region-free. The Turtles movie is a New Line release which falls under WB and I believe also is typically region-free. I realize other companies do lock them. I was just stating that IF there was to be a UK release of the first Turtles film then it would most likely be region-free if it's released by WB/New Line.
Now there COULD be an exception to this... IF the Turtles movie is NOT released by WB overseas (instead released by another distributer such as ARROW for example), then it very well could be locked, depending on the company releasing it. Again, my comments about being region-free are only if it's actually released by WB.
Not trying to debate, just pointing out some facts. I am a Blu-ray enthusiast and have a huge collection. If you ever have questions about Blu-ray releases, check out Blu-ray.com. They are an awesome sight for news, info about discs, etc. I've been an active member there for years.
Hope this helps.
Rick
EDIT: I just looked up the TMNT 3 Film collection and it seems in the UK it was released by a company called Mediumrare. I've honestly never heard of this company and am unsure of it's use of region locking. So if there was a new release of the first movie and it came from this company (instead of WB/New Line) then I have no idea whether it would be locked or not. I know the US release of these 3 films ARE region-free. Just don't know enough about this Mediumrare company. Another interesting tidbit though... the cgi TMNT film WAS released by WB in the UK and it IS region-free!!

Doesn't Viacom own Time Warner though?
No, Viacom owns CBS not Time Warner. It is the world's fourth-largest media conglomerate, behind The Walt Disney Company, Time Warner and News Corporation (now 21st Century Fox).
The CW channel however is a joint venture between CBS and Time Warner. It is a joint venture between CBS Corporation, the former owners of the United Paramount Network (UPN), and Time Warner subsidiary Warner Bros. Entertainment, former majority owner of The WB Television Network. The "CW" name is derived from the first letters of the names of these corporations (CBS and Warner Bros.).
Basically, the CW channel came about when two networks merged (UPN and The WB).

I can tell you that the "extended cut" of the movie and the original "rough cut" will never see the light of day anytime soon (anymore) - which is a shame...
And to be on topic: The UK Blu-Ray Release will only include the original version of the movie without any bonusmaterial. It's just the repackaged Disk from the UK Blu-Ray Set which included all 3 movies, after 20th Century Fox lost the license to the second and third movie in most countries (except France, were they still hold the license)
I can however say that there will be a new release of all 3 movies in Europe on Blu-Ray which will include some Bonusmaterial US Fans wanted to get their hands on for a long time. But more on that later ;)

So far, there have been Blu-Ray releases in 2009 (25th anniversary) and 2012. Even though it will have only been two years, the presence of a new film will allow younger audiences to discover the original and keep the older fans in touch. That said, whenever I see "special edition", I EXPECT bonus features. A simple interview or two along with some vintage news footage is what I'd like to see, along with some fan interviews. An October release would mean that there would be time to enjoy it on video before the 2014 movie gets released on video around the holidays.

Well I can only say what I was told from someone who sits right at the "source"...
As far as I was told the rough cut, which Mr. Barron still holds on as a vhs copy and/or the extended cut which was hinted at at comikaze con will not see the light of day anytime soon because of "issues" which cannot be resolved right now.
I can't say more about it because if I told more about it there would be more details out there about it and automatically something else TMNT related which details shouldn't be public as of now would also be talked about and that would kinda undermine the work done by certain people in the last few...
Nope - sry can't say more...
Just look forward to something awesome being released in 2014 (or early 2015) and someting less exciting for most Fans because it will only see a release in europe. But more on the "less exciting" thing later - maybe on a seperate thread.

Could this be the Director's Cut version we've been promised?
I was hoping for something to come out with the movie in August. Maybe since the 2014 is coming out in Oct. the UK is getting the Director's cut 1990 movie then, meaning it'll come out sooner in North America.
It looks like this release is actually just a "steelbook edition"...most likely the same cut of the film, just in an exclusive steelbook. The original UK release of the first movie apparently was a 1080i image and there's talks of this one being a 1080p release. Other than that, I believe it'll be the same movie.
Apparently the new Turtles film isn't opening in the UK until October, when this (UK) steelbook is released and this appears to be timed for the cinema release of the new one. It would be nice to get a 'director's cut', but I think this release is just to capitalize on the opening of the new film in the UK. Nothing more.... :(

I am now allowed to share the news for the european TMNT Fans :)
TMNT 1 to 3 will get a german Blu-Ray Release with some great special features:
A few Months ago WinklerFilm, german homevideo publisher, aquired the rights to release all 3 Movies on Blu-Ray. Over the last few weeks their looks far and wide to find bonusmaterial to the second and third movie and today I am allowed to share the details:
TMNT 1 (Turtles - Der Film)
Audiocommentary by Steve Barron (originally recorded for the german DVD), Deleted Scenes (those who omited Mikeys Chucks), Extended Ending & Trailer.
TMNT 2: Secret of the Ooze (Turtles 2 - Das Geheimnis des Ooze)

They were also able to aquire the right to use the original Theatrical Poster of TMNT 3 as Coverartwork.
All 3 Blu-Rays (as well as all 3 DVD Rereleases) are going to be released on June 20th in Germany. All Blu-Rays are Region B (Europe) and the DVDs are Region 2. They tried to make the Release Regionfree, but weren't allowed to do so by the Licenseholder.

You mentioned "Something awesome will be released in 2014 or early 2015?"
What was that about? Because in the same post, you said this news (which now we know are some kind of special features on the sequels) was 'less exciting'...
And is that just for European fans too?

I would be interested in hearing the audio commentaries to all three movies. Specifically Turtles 3. I want to know why they went the time travel route and overall what were they thinking.

Can't say it right now - you will find out soon enough, not from me but from another person here on the board.
I just found out about it because I helped on the german Blu-Rays.

Not the "Something awesome..." will be for Fans around the World, but will most likely hit the US in advance.

So... The TMNT 1 release will be identical to the pervious German DVD?
Well, at least maybe this will give us a better quality version of the Behind the Shells...unless it's just a VHS rip.

Guess I'll just be content with my German DVD.
Is it worth it to buy the DVD for the one commentary? Can I hack a DVDplayer to play it? I just wanna hear this commentary so bad.
If there is no extended cut, I would still like to see a digital enhancement of the 1st film. For example, they could correct the lip syncing now with computer software, and black out the faces inside the mouths. Erasing minor goofs like the white legs when the Turtles jump out in the intro would be nice too.

A nice remaster would be great.

It would probably cost more than the movie was made for to actually go through and do this to any decent standard...

Nice. This looks like a possible purchase.
It's a bit weird how the Amazon cover shows the 2014 shooting logo.
Didn't the 1990 movie use the OT Logo?

Probably a very dumb question, but have you seen it in Blu-Ray yet? Some scenes are unbelievably crystal clear.
That's a rip from it so the quality is good but it's obviously not going to be Blu-Ray quality on my laptop.

No, I've only seen it on VHS and DVD, I think the DVD was just a VHS transfer.

Ya gotta find a way to do it. Shredder does look amazing. The reflections off his armor makes him look even better. Regular DVD doesn't have that quality as it's much darker. It does have it's downfalls though. Not many but little stuff here and there.

It was. The Blu Ray transer is incredible. Simply put, it hasn't looked that good since it originally came out in theaters in 1990. The film still has a natural dark lighting tone, and grittiness to it. But everything now is a lot clearer. Get the Blu Ray when you can afford it bud.
Agreed.
I can see so much detail on my 50' plasma, love the grain as well, and I also noticed a goof in the scene where Leo and Ralph are bickering at eachother in April's apt, you can see a crew-member with a ball-cap kneeling down trying to stay out of the frame. Sorry I'm late on this, btw.
But I was like holy-crap lol
If you ask me in terms of each film's quality on Blu, I'd say Parts 2&3 looks the best due to their higher production values. Totally worth it on blu-ray though.

The first time I saw that I just said, "There's a man in April's house!"

The film was SUPPOSED to be dark! They messed it up by brightening it and making it "crystal clear." The suits are gonna look fake as heck and the lighting will be ruined. When I watch my current Blu-rays, I turn the brightness on my TV way down.

You know what.. honest to god I was gonna say the same thing but I didn't want to start anything.. That skin looked more fake. The suits look more rubberish in Hi Def. That's the one problem I had. And I agree that the quality kind of gives the movie it's character if that makes any sense. I shouldn't feel like im doing something wrong by saying this anyway.. People don't shy away from trashing the new stuff.. that's for sure.

I don't know. I personally think the lighting shining of Shredder's armor is pretty cool.
The screenshots on the amazon page for the new german BluRay look too bright and washed out.
Compare those screenshots to these of the US release:

Zavvi Exclusive steelbook (http://www.zavvi.com/blu-ray/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-zavvi-exclusive-limited-edition-steelbook/10921219.html) must include 30 minutes of behind-the-scences. Now, what is that all about? It's not the same as extras on German Blu-Ray, right?

Oh, thanks! No point in getting UK one then, I guess.
BTW, I wanted to ask for a long time. English track on German release for the first movie will be done from the same master source as DVD from 2010, with barely audible music and sfx in central channel? Or it will be completely new one?

As far as I know the english Audiotrack on the german Blu-Rays will be a new one, not the same as on the DVD from 2009.
Looking on WinklerFilms official Website the Blu-Rays will have English DTS-HD 5.1 MA Sound.

On a somewhat related topic:
Where can I find and purchase blue-ray versions of the 90s trilogy that are playable on my Xbox One? That's the only blue-ray system I have and it only plays movies bought in Region 1 aka North America, so the UK ones on Amazon won't work.
