Who Are Your Favorite TMNT Artists?

With a new Tales of the TMNT in the works, I've been wondering if we might see the return of a few artists who contributed to the TMNT comics in the past. This got me remembering my own favorites, which eventually led me to this question: Which artists are your personal favorites, and, if you care to elaborate, why?

MY TOP THREE:
1.) Kevin Eastman & Peter Laird - As a pair or individually. Their renditions hooked me first, so I gotta list 'em first. I prefer Kevin's visual style over Peter's, but just by a hair.
2.) A.C. Farley - This guy's version of the Turtles has always impressed the hell outta me. His renditions of the “classic-style” Turtles are the most structurally sound and three-dimensional, IMHO.
3.) Michael Zulli - His vision of the characters in his three-issue story arc simply blew me away. This guy's a top-notch artist.

THE REST (In alphabetical order by first name.)
• Eric Talbot - I like the “rough ‘n’ cartoony” quality of his art.
• Jim Lawson - While I do prefer his old style to his newer one, I still like his work. While I admittedly have my limits, “weird” and highly stylized visual art doesn't usually bother me.
• LeSean Thomas - His stuff is wild and dynamic. Me like!
• Mark Bode - Love his sh**. Similar enough to his father's style to imagine what his take on the TMNT might have been like.

Definitely Dooney and Farley, their paintings are a big inspiration for me. I also love LeSean's style (especially the colouring in the Dreamwave series, even though he doesn't do it). I also like Eastman and Lairds art on the City at War arc.

I could write my own post, but what you said about the above artists is pretty much the as my favorites list. And I also like Dan Berger, since his style is pretty flexible and really animated too.

I also got to meet Michael Zulli for the first time this May at a comic con, and he's really cool. Funny personality and easy going too. Mark Bode was ther too, but he seemed to be a little more reserved. But still cool to meet.

Dan Berger, I love his art in #45, and that little story in one of the Turtle Soups. (Too lazy to find which one...).

As far as TMNT artists go, all I can say is that I HATE Jim Lawson's artwork. I find it to be unbareable. I don't wanna hurt anyone's feelings or anything, but it's just rediculous how bad it is.

Actually tho, there are a few people I like. I always liked Chris Allen and that variant cover Pat Lee drew was friggin' amazing. And my wet dream come true would be if Joe Mad drew them. You've all seen that picture he did for Wizard.

But seriously, Jim Lawson is horrible.

Well i've only been able to get the first issue of the DW comic and I must say I quite like it so far. LeSeans art is unique and very expressive.

Now if only the other issues are still on the shelf when I go to Sydney next... :tneutral:

G'nah... Hard to decide. Lessee... I dig Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird's work on the earlier issues of Mirage. They create a strong sense of atmosphere with their art. Dan Berger, because his turtles have such great facial expressions ('specially in the daily strips). LeSean, for the energy and movement he can put into the TMNT. I also like Mark Bode, Rick Veitch, and yes, Jim Lawson (though I like his earlier work the best).

God, enough of the Lawson bashing. Everyone. I don't care whether you like his artwork or not but:
1) Using words like "sucks" or "hate" are not opinions they're immature put downs. If you don't like his work, feel free to be honest but at the same time try to be mature and tactful. Example "I prefer his older style" or "I don't like his new style" or "I'm not a fan of his work" or even "I'd prefer someone else"
2) In how many damn threads must people profess their undying hatred of Jim Lawson? It's gotten to the point where people can't even mention Vol. 4, TMNT comics, or artwork without someone feeling the need to say "Jim Lawson SUCKS and I HATE his art!" It is truly killing the discussions here.
3) If you notice, this thread is about your FAVORITE TMNT artists (ie: the ones you LIKE)
4) There already was a thread on Lawson's work specifically, if you want to talk about his work, then put your comments there, or start a new thread and sticky it if you feel the need to talk about it so endlessly.
5) Lawson's style is what it is. It's as simple as that. I happen to like it, but you are all free not to. If it pains you so much to look at then maybe TMNT comics are not for you.

1)Trying to encourage mature discussion is not being uptight. And if you bothered to read my post, you'll notice that I encourage free speech as long as it's mature speech.
2) If people stayed on topic this board would function a hell of lot better actually. Because then we could actually have discussions. For example which sounds better to you:

Post 1: "Splinter's death was a surprise"
Post 2: "Lawson SUCKS and I HATE him. I hope he dies for drawing so bad!!!!!!!!"
Post 3: "Lawson doesnt suck, I like his work"
Post 4: "Lawson draws worse than my kid sister. Hey mods ban me!! I'm crazy and I have a big sig."
etc...

or

Post1: "Splinter's death was a surprise"
Post 2: "Yeah, I wasn't expecting it. Did anyone notice the Rat King."

Now, naturally these are just quick examples, but which one do you think makes more sense? Well, I'll save the breath of some smart ass, the second example of course. If everyone tried to stay on topic as best as possible, and tried not to be so antagonistic, this board would function better and be more fun to discuss on.

As of now, this not the place where I want to discuss the new TMNT comics. And that is really sad, because I'd like to, and this is the best TMNT community on the internet. But, as usual a few rotten apples have to spoil it for everyone.

I don't quite see how someone can hate Lawson's "style", since he's had a few... If you compare:

Any Tales of TMNT issue.
The early Archie issue with the Chameleon guy.
Return to NY.
City at War.
volume 4.

Those look pretty different to me. I love the Tales art, and I hate the Archie art (still wonder if there's some story there, was he force to draw the whole issue in a couple of days?), and I find everything he has done since City at War "acceptable" in the way that I don't see anything really wrong with it...

TMNT Adventures #9 wasn't the only issue of the Archie series Lawson did. If you check out his artwork in #11 and #24, you can see that he is very good at his artwork.

... and we all know that Joe Mad (as much as I love his art) couldn't finish out a comic book on time if his life depended on it. Look at the disaster that was Battle Chasers. Great book with some of the very best art in any series ever (check out the monster art!), but months and months of delays, followed by promises that he'd got on track, then more delays, then he just dropped the book in the middle of the first storyline.
