The Turtles are definitely presented here as the extraordinary beings who enter into April's "real" world rather than the trailer following them with April popping up as a secondary human character.

Sounds like our worst fears confirmed. April is the main character and the Turtles are secondary.

Good, than there's no chance in hell of it being good, which means they wont get to make another one. Liebesman movies never make as much money as Bay movies...

On the bright side this keeps those horrible nostril dinosaur designs of the Turtles off-screen as much as possible, which might be a good thing.

Although the real reason this is probably happening is because the CG of the Turtles is costly and they probably don't want them in too many scenes or more than they have to.

meh.. don't care... I'd watch a Megan Fox movie of her just sitting there for 1hr 45min, not even saying anything, just blinking and doing that tongue thing she does..

1. Keep expectations VERY low. like Turtles 3 low, no, lower.

2. walk out of the theater surprised that it wasn't the worst thing ever

3. continue to enjoy life and all that turtle fandom has to offer!

4. speculate with other fans about the next reboot (think of it this way -- this movie will be Ang Lee's Hulk movie [but worse], but what we really want is Avengers Ruffalo Hulk. I know it sucks but we gotta work with what they dish out.)

Except that this is a bad analogy cause I hate "hulklike" turtles, I prefer sleaker turtles like the Nick style. Anyway you get what I meant!

While I do think it will focus primarily on April and the humans, because this is the precedent that has been set by other CG heavy summer blockbusters, I think it may actually be reaching to say that the trailer confirms this. Either way, it will most likely be the case as CG is expensive and Hollywood seems to think that we can only emotionally attach to Human Beings rather than characters whose namesake is the title of the movie. You would think it would be straight forward... make a transformer's movie starring the transformers instead of Sam Witwicky and a TMNT movie starring the Turtles instead of April O'Neil. Eh, What do I know, I am not a huge production company who consistently releases movies that disappoint fans of the franchises on which they are based.

To be fair, Platinum Dunes is not the only transgressor of this type of thing. Just consider how little we actually see Iron Man in the Iron Man movies, probably should have titled that one Tony Stark.(to be fair, at least Tony Stark IS iron man, so it is a little different). :tlol:

All that as in the focus of the entire movie can be determined in what is described as a very short trailer for the movie.

A trailer that seems to go out of its way to HIDE the turtles until near the end of the trailer.

Says the creator of a thread entirely intended to be snarky at people who do not like what they've seen from this movie.

Except that it wasn't that at all. I was asking a real question as I really wanted to see where people stood and if they were serious about their feelings on the movie and also bring up my confusion with the whole not wanting to see something but still seeing it thing.

You're going around trying to get at people for saying things you don't like and insinuating that they're in denial. Come on man. It's obvious that some people aren't going to be 'talked' or 'yelled' out of their opinions. So just let it be.

Even though I am still looking forward to this movie and I do intend on seeing it, there are things about it so far I really don't like, and Megan Fox possibly being the main character and the turtles secondary, is the biggest problem I have. Yeah hides them because they are using moments in the teaser to build up to the reveal. No goal post moving here.

That is why this thread is reaching.

You are using a teaser, not an official, trailer to determine who the main focus of the movie is about. A teaser that goes out of its way to hide the turtles and to reveal them at the end.

Though I agree that keeping the Turtle reveal to the end makes sense for the trailer, that's probably not all that is being used as a gauge for their screen time. It isn't to outlandish to use Transformers as guideline.

This is about the OP using a teaser trailer as the determining factor of who the movie is about. When from all descriptions the movie purposely goes out of its way to hide the Turtles and lead up to a reveal.

To me the fact that April will have more time on screen is not the real problem.

What bothers me the most is the fact that the Turtles have been deliberately "created" by Shredder...

And again, that would be fine.

But the FOCUS of the teaser, apparently, is very much on Megan Fox.

If it was cool quick shots of Turtles fighting thugs/foot ninjas that actually looked like ninjas with voice overs from maybe Splinter and then Shredder, that would be awesome.

But it's not.

Concur, very disappointing. Basically seems to be following the formula of the Transformers series. To be expected though, not necessarily because studios don't feel we can't connect with fantasy characters.

But because the CG in these blockbuster films is so insanely expensive. It's that simple really.

Sam Witwicky is a made up character for that mythos. At least Megan Fox's April is a real character in the mythos, so it's more forgivable that we see the film from her P.O.V.

Would you say TMNT 1990 was from April's P.O.V. too as the main focus of the story? We follow her for a large chunk of the movie. It opens up with her. Same goes for Secret of the Ooze. Isn't Keno basically the same as Sam Witwicky?

It is different, and I've never understood this complaint from whiny fan boys. It's borderline childish.

Do you only take interest in Kal-El, Bruce Wayne, Tony Stark, Steve Rodgers, and Peter Parker when they are in their superhero costume? Is your attention span that short and / or child like?

There is more to those characters than that, and if you're a true fan of any of those guys, what they do out of the suit is equally as important.

I personally am interested in the hero, not just the costume.

Even as a kid not seeing the hero in the costume never bothered me.

If they're in their costume the entire time, it just becomes a cartoon, and there is no specialness to the scenes in which they do don their legendary outfits to fight criminals.

- Superman TM
- Superman 2
Batman Returns
Spider-Man 2
- Batman Begins
Iron Man 2
Amazing Spider-Man
- The Dark Knight Rises
Iron Man 3

All had long stretches where the protagonist, the hero was doing heroic things while not actually being in their costume for a large chunk of screen time. 4 of those comic book films mentioned are some of the genre's absolute best pieces of work.
I love how he needs to stick it to Marvel even when nobody's talking about it, but yeah IM3, Spiderman 2, Superman and Superman 2 are awesome movies...Megan Fox as April O'neil blaargh, Megan Fox as a main character? Does anyone think that it's a good idea to let her carrie a whole movie?

*yawn*

No teaser or trailer ever make a correct depiction of a whole movie. Example being Tangled, just dreadful teasers and trailers. But damn, the movie was great.

Even TMNT 2007, whose teaser was excellent, doesn't portray the final film. It was a tad underwhelming.

So this is gonna sound cliche but it's still true: "Just wait till the damn movie is out!" ;) :tcool:

IM 3 is known hot garbage.

With it's fake ass TDK Rises narrative, and plot. But with inferior intelligence, scripting, acting, nuance ...

How could I forget IM 3's way bigger plot holes, character inconsistencies, forced slapstick humor that destroys tension filled scenes, logic / physics inconsistencies.

Yet you want to hate on TDKR?

TDKR takes narrative leaps of faith due to it's way more epic scope, but IM 3 down right insults my intelligence, yet doesn't deliver all that much entertainment to justify it.

IM 3 pissing all over the source material, terrible ... corny, bland fire breathing villain. Really? TDKR adapted real cherished Batman mythology from the source. IM 3 can't even give you a decent comic book based villain. real cherished Batman mythology from the source. Venom? no! Spanish? No! Santa Prisca? No! and he sound's like Sean Connery auto tuned.

Gaps in logic and common sense pile up, movie collapses on it self and becomes a boring bloated mess with characters whose motivation is so plotholle ridden that you can drive a ****ing Titanic though it. and Mandarin was never a Cherished villain, he's Fu man Chu leftover from the Vietnam war, he's an Asian Stereotype, also i am not a Marvelite. Marvel produces a lot of **** to, Drop your Nolanite glasses and look at those movie with logical eyes, they are not the masterpieces you want them to be, you can deny it to infinity, that won't change anything. Um yes. We got TDK Returns, No Man's Land, and Knightfall all wrapped up in one.

Bane is a C rate villain. He was a MacGuffin like Doomsday.

Nolan took his essence, improved on it for a more plausible reality. Made him clearly more BA. I wouldn't want a mexican wrestler dressed Bane in Nolan's Batman universe.

Venom? No he had a breathing apparatus that injects numbing agents into body to subdue pain. It's essentially an organic steroid. You honestly expected Bane to hulk out? He feels no pain, that works just as well.

We don't know what Bane sounds like in the comics now do we? So Hardy took a fairly interesting approach to the character. Instead of making him a hulking, dumb sounding brute. He gave him intelligence, and nuance through his cadence.

Clearly you're a biased Marvel fan boy, and have no clue what you're talking about. And WTF is a Nolanite? I'm merely stating the obvious that the Batman trilogy he created his clearly head and shoulders better than anything else in the genre of cookie cutter blandness. Especially the glorified trailers called films the Marvel Studio machine you sheep people invest so much in ... they're so great because they combine characters?

Um ok. They're hollow, boring, childish cartoons in comparison to TDK trilogies layered entertainment value.

It's like talking to a log, you are so ****ing thickheaded that you can't take even slightest Criticism towards Nolan, http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Nolanite yes i am a sheep for actually wanting to enjoy a fun movie and not be hit over the head with obvious symbolism and bloated writing, TDKR sucks. you know what, **** you dude, **** you, you are god damn douche...

Except that Bane isn't a hulking dumb-sounding brute, at least in the comics he's not. And instead of giving us a multi-layered person of color we got a difficult to understand racebent stand in.

Nolan also racebent Ra's Al Ghul, with a mispronounced name to boot.

Nolan's BatVerse leaves a bad taste in my mouth. From the hamfisted romantic subplot in the first one, to the Sequel Means Two Badguys! trope of the second, to the boring slog of the third.

I give the man props for the best Live Action Bruce Wayne we've ever seen, and for his vision of an awesomely creepy Joker, and a wickedly well done Selina Kyle, even if I did hate her heels.

Probably because there's not a whole lot more to discuss until the teaser comes out sometime tomorrow.

Though, I would like to delve into why April would be a horrible person to headline the next turtle movie. I mean, "True Stories" is hands down one of the best books in the Mirage run of the comics, and that was all from April's point of view.

I didn't say he was. I'm talking about his voice. People expected a deep voice. Hardy portrayed him as an elderly, in pain, articulate guy. I don't get why that's so bad.

There was nothing elderly about Hardy's performance.

Bane's latin decent defines his character now? Or the fact that he's a C list, MacGuffin who served no purpose besides being Batman's Doomsday?

Of course Nolan had room to update, and reinterpret while still being faithful to his essence. He's still a physical equal to Batman, born / raised in a prison of darkness. Hardened by his experiences. Driven. Has a soft soul deep down, related to the LOS ... and has a thing for Talia.

All of this was int he source material.

I'm not saying Nolan didn't have room to update, I'm calling him to the mat for the changes he made. I feel they were bad changes.

Is it a problem Harvey Dent was black in Batman '89? Does his race define his character as well?

Your obsession with race is troublesome. I've noticed it in sevaral threads. Did it bother you Mandarin was Caucasian, or Indian instead of Asian?

No it's not a problem that Harvey Dent was black in Burton's Batman, because there aren't nearly as many roles for black actors as there are for white.

Yes it is a problem that he was later recast and played by Tommy Lee Jones, because that was just awful no matter how badly you slice it.

According to who was it mispronounced? It isn't pronounced RASH Al Ghul. Like some weird STD. All they did is emphaize a "z" instead of "sh"

Or you mean you think that's how it sounds because that's how it was pronounced by Denny O'Neil, or the BTAS team?

His name is Arabic, it is said no where that Ra's actual ethnicity is of Arabic decent. He was born among a tribe of nomads IN THE REGION.

Ray's Al Ghul is how it should be pronounced, because Ra is pronounced the same way the name Ray is in English. The Egyptian Sun God? Is Ra. Pronounced Ray.

Which is apparent in basically any blockbuster or comic book movie.

Which is why most blockbuster/comic book movies aren't good movies.

It also takes a severe backseat in the film to all the other plots, and subplots.

Then why have it in the first place?
Oh that's right, because female characters are only good for romantic subplots, I forgot.

A studio pushed agenda that is immedietly killed off in the sequel when Nolan had total reign.

And when Nolan had total reign, he fridges Rachel, in true DC style. That...that's inspired writing, that is.

The Joker is the villain for the duration of the film. Two Face is apart of the 3rd act.

So 2 bad guy trope means you don't like a lot of comic book films.

That would be correct, yes.
It's lazy writing.

Meh, subjective. I mean it would be if you didn't enjoy Batman Begins, Christian Bale's portrayl of Bruce Wayne, being it's a definitive conclusion of tht story.

Trying to be unique by nit picking this series would essentially tell me you don't like the following Batman stories:

Man Who Falls
Batman #1
Year One
Long Halloween
Dark Victory
Killing Joke
TDK Returns
Knightfall
No Man's Land

Unfortunate for you, that you must not have been a Batman fan to begin with at all.

That's right, just dismiss me like some filthy "casual." Not a real fan. No I couldn't possibly be.

See to me? Hearing you gush over and over again about the virtues of the Nolan-verse, that just tells me you're a bandwagoner.

I'll be honest, I really don't like DC's books in general. Their cartoon universes, on the other hand, are pretty spectacular.
There are exceptions. Gotham Central is fantastic, as is the first run of Blue Beetle. Of course, all of those are moot now that we've got the Nu52, which had done nothing but alienate and disappoint.

I tried to get into Green Lantern for a while there, but...ugh, it's just so boring. So so boring. It's like watching buildings punch each other. You know, like the end of Man of Steel.

I like Batman, but he's hardly my favorite character. I mean, there's only so much Mary Sue a girl can take.

The way they handled the Mandarin in Iron Man 3 is the only socially acceptable way to deal with that character, and I for one am pretty damn impressed that they came up with it at all.

It's one of the reasons IM3 is vastly superior to IM2.
Though IM the first, is hands down the best superhero movie ever made.

It's Batman Begins lite. With a more charismatic lead / character, and a significantly worse 3rd act.

Now with less racebending, a proactive female character that isn't forcibly wedged into a romantic subplot because Women? What else are they good for? Amirite?, a hero you can actually understand when he speaks, and a villain with a plan that actually makes sense outside of a funnybook.

But hey, at least we're in agreement that Tony Stark is waaaay more charismatic than Bruce Wayne will ever be. SO there's that.

What's wrong with being half Chinese half British Royalty?
Yeah... the Mandarin is half white, but no one remembers that.

Nothing.
The problem comes from the villain being born from a racist, Orientalist, trope.

Didn't care much for Pepper being Tony's love interest, but at least she was still a pretty good character. Just wish she stayed the way she was in the beginning of IM1. Didn't care all that much about the love interest in Batman Begins and Dark Knight, she was just there as token love interest.

That's one of the reasons I really liked IM the first, because you think they're going to go there, and then she just shoots him right the hell down. After saving the day,...in heels.

Pepper was more of a character, more integral to the plot, than Rachel Dawes ever was. And it angers me to have characters like Rachel Dawes even IN the movie in the first place. The only reasons to add her are:

1) To draw a female audience. (LOOK! We have an independent woman!LOOOK Girls can like superhero movies too)

Which is just insulting on so many levels.

2) To be a love interest.

Which is insulting on all the levels left out by 1).

Do I like that Pepper and Tony get together in the second and third movies? Not as much, no, but at least it works. And it only works by virtue of the chemistry of RDJ and GP. Though...it works a hell of a lot better in 3 than it does in 2, which was a wet hot mess from start to finish.

Again, having a 2 in the title doesn't mean there has to be TWO villains.

Is that supposed to belittle me? I manned up to apologize for assuming you were black. Nice to know you received the message and accepted the apology. Have no clue what this statement aims to do otherwise.

Not really, I just think it's funny that the big 'internet tough guy' had to go behind closed doors to make sure their bluster didn't step on toes too hard. Though, it's kind of funny that you think I'd be offended by you misidentifying me as black, as if being black was some sort of horrible thing people should be ashamed of. Of course, I thought you were apologizing for being a prick in general, good to have that clarified.

Eh, since we're talking about them anyway...

I liked Batman Begins. I thought it was a well done take on the character and faithful in adapting the overall intent of the origin to film. I liked the deeper look into exploring the origin and development of Batman before he became Batman and the exploration of how he creates the mythos was done well.

The Dark Knight was fantastic as well. A few problems, I felt, but overall done well.

The Dark Knight Rises was an poorly conceived disasterous cluster bomb to me. I was legitimately bored with the film in theaters at the midnight release. It took everything that Nolan did poorly about Batman in BB and TDK and amplified it times ten without drawing on the strengths they established.

They tried to squeeze too many iconic storylines into a single film in my opinion and the movie, particularly Batman's character, suffered for it.

But there were also a lot of issues I had with the portrayal of Batman/Bruce Wayne's character through the whole trilogy, despite really liking the first two films. They were issues I was more than willing to forgive, but they were too magnified in the finale.

One particular gripe I had was them wanting to do the "oh, The Dark Knight Returns is cool" aspect and forcing it into the story. It doesn't have the same impact if Batman disappears and returns only to.....disappear and return........so he disappears.

It's certainly a fine line to walk, that's for sure. Some stuff easily transfers from the page to the screen, other stuff...not so much.

It's why I think IM the first works so well, once you get over the hump of believing the ridiculous premise, it's all a straight up reality story.

Where as Batman, starts out rooted in reality, and then takes a turn for the bizarre. When it's done well you don't even notice you're watching a guy dressed up like a bat fight a vigilante war against organized crime.

It's so easy to snap the strings that suspend one's disbelief. For me? Bale's Batman Voice did it. Everything up to that voice had me dead to rights.

When the first Turtle Movie came out the animatronics were so state of the art it was so easy to believe that the turtles were real things. They were right there! But...that movie hasn't aged well at all. Through no fault of its own, just because the goal posts have been moved.

Compared to the effects in something like "Where the Wild Things Are? It just doesn't hold a candle.

And yet, having the men in suits not be CGI means you don't have to worry about the Uncanny Valley like we're going to for the new movie.

Actualy the voice in the BB wasn't that bad, it was when dark knight came around that it got ridiculous, TDKR amplified it up to 11, that scene on the rooftop where he talks to Selina (who knows that is Bruce) and he is still doing it was cringe worthy, plus they gave her a ridiculous voice to, it wasn't a comedy, right?

He spoke to Lucius and Alfred with his growling voice too. That always irked me. ;)

I think it's all part of the fact that the man playing the part said he felt ridiculous in the role, the entire concept made no sense to him and he couldn't take himself seriously dressing up in the costume to fight crime and the gutteral voice was part of what helped him sell it to himself. Basically, Bale didn't conceptually accept the Batman idea.

I'm confident that Affleck is actually better prepared to play the role than perhaps anyone before him from the psychology aspect. Plus, Kevin Smith is always available to smack him in the head and say "What the hell are you thinking?! NO! BAD BATFLECK!" *smack with newspaper*

That was part of his persona though....he was "in the zone" for the most part in those scenes and when in the suit. He "isn't" Bruce when he has the suit on. Whether he's talking to someone that knows his secret or not.

I dunno....that never bothered me. Not to mention, he definitely dials it down a bit when talking to people who know him while in the suit, anyhow. IE: the scene with Gordon in BB when he's explaining what happened to Rachel, in TDK when talking to Lucious explaining his sonar equipment plan, etc. Still growling a bit, just not very (or with as much) intensity.

As an optimist, I'd call this a good thing. Now, while this style doesn't work for Transformers, they are Ninja Turtles last I checked. Anyone who's a fan of TMNT or is Ninja themselves knows that Ninja are to stay in the shadows, especially giant green turtles. With apparent nostrils.

As long as the Turtles are the ones in the war with Shredder and Megan Fox isn't the one fighting him in the end (unless she knocks him out with her hips), it'll be fine. But, like I said, this'll keep them more in the shadows and thus make them more Ninja, thus making the movie a little bit more realistic.

(However, that's not to say I've seen the IGN video yet. "Spoiler Alert" came up and I wanted to be surprised when I see it alongside Winter Solider).

However, you and I maybe envisioning this differently.
