I think it was Andrew NDB on here, cool dude btw ...
But I remember reading a post of his recently but can't seem to find it where it was suggested that there was apparently a Batman Begins-esque serious, faithful to the source material the way Batman Begins was a loose adaptation of "The Man Who Falls" and Frank Miller's "Year One".
I think he said it was a screen play adaptation that was gritty, and serious but ultimately deemed "too dark" so they went in a different direction. Does anyone know where I could find or read this script? Any other info at all on this?

It was the John Fusco script, back before the Nick buyout. There were a few negative comments from industry people floating around, but everything I read from people associated with the franchise was positive. An acquaintance of mine read it and loved it. I would LOVE to get my hands on that script. Fingers crossed that it leaks out at some point.

This script did in fact exist.
It was written when Nickeloedeon first comissioned the film.
It was very much based on the Mirage comic, and was said to be really dark and gritty. Borderline R rated.
And in the end, it was too dark for Nick and Paramount.

Ah, the first few months when you think everyone who isn't completely nice to you should be banned.
:tlol::tlol: I remember those days.

I believe he was hired prior to the Nickelodeon purchase

If it's the John Fusco script it was publicly stated it lacked humour which struck me as unlikely given some of his other work. I suppose he could have done a script different to some of his other work but more likely it didn't have the right ration of sillyness that they wanted.

Damn that sounds so freakin' awesome. Wish Nick did straight video movies like DC so they could bring that script to life. :teek::teek::teek:

The Fusco script pre-dates the Nick buyout.

I remember when the Darren Aronofsky / Frank Miller YEAR ONE script was leaked.
That script gets a LOT of hate, but I've always thought it was an interesting take.

I was the one who leaked it ... :D
Interesting! Are you Leon, by any chance? I got my photocopy of YO around 2003 from a super cool online acquaintance that interned with a production company at WB. This thing looks like it was written on an old typewriter, which as goofy as it sounds, completely adds to the gritty FRENCH CONNECTION feel when reading it, haha! I've never seen any other photocopies of this draft pop up, except for a really bad, low-res scan. From what I understand, the big leak that everyone has read was the transcription on Leon's site.
I've been trying to get my hands on the other drafts. Miller said they bounced around two or three different drafts of the project. I'm not convinced that the AICN review is from a legit draft.

That's how I got mine. No, I'm not leon. I leaked it on me and my bro's Batman website.
The script has a very 70's, gritty action vibe. French Connection, Taxi Driver. But the Nolan films have that same practical, gritty 70's film sensibility to them too.
Cool--what's your website?
I think YO was obviously wayyyyyyy more heavy-handed with the old gritty 70s cop film vibe. It's a shame WB didn't use that for the basis of the animated YO movie instead of the direct comic adaptation. It's definitely my fav of all of the unproduced Batman scripts I've read.
So does anyone here have leads on the Fusco TMNT script?
