What happened to Oroku Saki? The REAL Shredder!?

TrickOrTreater
03-28-2014, 11:32 AM
Chances are he doesn't exist.

Been some speculation he's the REAL Shredder over in Japan while Sachs is just American branch.

Been some speculation that Sachs is the reincarnation of Oroku Saki who lived in Feudal Japan.

I'm picking the "he doesn't exist" one.

Also, in an excruciatingly boring interview with the writer of the film, he was asked about Oroku Saki in which he replied, "Perhaps we will, perhaps not, perhaps we will perhaps you all up the perhaps."

Some possibilities, for those so inclined to care:

A) Just as Erich Sachs might be a host to Krang now, once upon a time Oroku Saki might have been a host to Krang as well.
B) Oroku Saki could be a historical figure from Feudal Japan that was inspirational to Erich Sachs. Possibly seen in some manner of flashbacks.
C) Oroku Saki could have been Erich Sachs' direct mentor. Perhaps Erich Sachs killed him and assumed his identity.
D) If there is a Japanese branch of the Foot, he may be its leader. Karai is in the movie, after all.

I'm betting one of the 4 options there. Oroku Saki will be name-dropped at the very least, I'm sure.

The closest I know is that her Lego figure have been labeled Karai in the Lego wiki page, and they tend to have the right names for upcoming sets.

But, that's as far as I've invested time in that subject.

I believe that "The Shredder" of the new movie is going to be like the Shredder in the 2003 cartoon where he is the ancient spirit of Oroku Saki.

Eric Sachs will be obsessed (or Possessed) with the ancient Shredder to the point of trying to become him. (rebuilding the foot, super Shredder armor etc etc. The name Eric Sachs is just to throw people off.

I expect the Shredder spirit will be resurrected either by Sachs or is a planned movie Sequel.

Yeah this sounds good. But what about Splinter?

If I am correct and I would not mind it if they did it like IDW where splinter and the turtles were reincarnated.

But I seriously doubt that.

I suspect that Splinters Japanese culture and ninja training will be a result of the mutation, as someone said before like the matrix.

However it could also be that Eric Sachs is using ancient Japanese DNA to experiment on resurrecting ancient Japanese remains. in the process he mutates/resurrects a rat named Hamato Yoshi. All hell breaks loose the rat escapes into the sewers with a broken Mutagen canister and four baby turtles.

This whole change from Oroku Saki to a white rich business man villain reminds me a lot of Fox' treatment to Doctor Doom in the 2005 fantastic four movies. People were hoping, even at the last second, that there would be more to it than meet the eyes. There wasn't.

And there won't be in this case either. Don't kid yourself. It's a white Shredder with a really dumb change of name. It's the same thing Michael Bay always does. It's the EXACT same thing as what Fox did to Doctor Doom. It lacked imagination back then and it still does today.

Years later, we still laugh at how badly Fox handle that movie. And we will do the same with this new Shredder. There's nothing more to it.

All those speculations do is remind us how badly they are handling one of our favorite villain.

Option A is something my wife and I talked about yesterday after we watched the teaser together. I don't know, the vibe it gives off plus the way that writer handled some of the questions in that interview for me at least suggests that Sachs could actually be Krang for this version of the turtles and that Saki/Shredder might be something else entirely for another plot down the road.

Looking at the suit..looking at Fichtner. I just don't picture him in the suit. He's so small that unless that thing has some mechanical stuff going on, he's no match for 7 foot Ninja Turtles who can smash Hummers in half and chuck people 30 feet in the air. Unless..he is mutated which I could see happening. At least partially.

I'm going to stick to my theory that Sachs just developed the the suit as a way to combat the Turtles.

everytime i see this trailer, I imagine ERIC SACHS as a man obsessed with the mythos of the Shredder. He drowns himself in everything he can find, and ultimately convinces himself he is the reincarnation of the Shredder. That, or he he 'hears' voices in his head, the Shredder of old speaking to him ala the first spiderman film, with william dafoe's goblin. It drives him mad, and has him turn on the city, and the turtles.

Yeah that sounds like a bummer.

Yeah. Not to sound old but the original story origin is so well written and so creative that I don't know what they could possibly do to make it better. They'll try and make it too "realistic" which will clash with the fantasy of mutated turtles who can talk and fight crime. Or they will go overboard with the fantasy elements and it will be overkill.

I could see that too - Fitchner stated in interviews that his character goes through several changes in the movie, so it wouldn't surprise me if the spirit of the original Shredder actually took over him - and honestly, considering how spirit-spilled Japanese mythos is, I wouldnt mind this route.

2 things.

1. In the trailer when he is talking to April there looks to be a Japanese type mural on the wall. That could tie things in with their being another branch in Japan.

2. Since we now know that the Turtles were actually a lab experiment that could be why they have super human strength. If Sachs takes the same ooze him being a white business man will no longer matter given the abilities the ooze with give him. In turn we don't need Saki.

This movie definitely has it's flaws and stuff that piss me off just as much as you, but I can at least be optimistic that we're going to be getting some pretty sweet GIF's from it later on. I wonder if Donnie has the standard Bo, or the upgraded one he's got in the Nick toon (I personally wouldn't mind him wielding something like Hit Girl had in her first fight in Kick Ass)

Sorry to all of you, in that I still can't make up my damn mind about this movie. I'm not going to out and out write it off, but I saw a review from Black Nerd, and he had a pretty good point, in that when watching the Nick toon special and it showed the different dimensions depicting different versions of the Turtles, just pretend that this catastrophe is just one of them, nothing more, nothing less, and that maybe there will be some cool stuff in it that can be incorporated into later versions. The 2007 movie started the changing up of the Turtles eye color, and it looks like Mikey's eyes will be baby blues from here on out.

The eyes do look demonic...I hadn't noticed that...plus the mask on the armor definitely evokes a demonic image...

Now, to grasp at straws, maybe Sachs wasn't talking about creating the Turtles...perhaps he and Mr. O'Neil were responsible for creating the Shredder...Sachs may view the Turtles as the threat...I mean humans do tend to find things that aren't of the normal. by their standards, as evil and threatening. O'Neil probably backs out of the deal when things get a little too non-scientific, possibly dealing with aliens (Utrom/Krang/etc.) or supernatural (summoning a demonic Shredder).

On a completely unrelated note...I would love to see a Triceraton on the big screen...

I kinda blame the 2K3 and Utrom business for this crap. Shredder is just supposed to wear bladed armor on parts of his body. It's not supposed to be a full body metallic suit. He's just supposed to be super skilled on his own, wearing bladed armor to make himself even deadlier. He's not supposed to rely on some mech suit to fight...

Fichtner's already said that Sachs is Shredder in various interviews, I believe. So that's that.

Yyyyyep. That's the best Shredder.

I'm not saying it's Oroku Saki.

I just don't think Sachs is actually Shredder unless he is mutated or the suit has some mechanical stuff going on.

Maybe they tie in Saki with Karai?

I mean, the Turtles are GIGANTIC. Look how small Fichtner is. There is just no way he steps in the suit and is this amazing martial artist that can take on 4 gigantic Turtles who can crush hummers, throw people 50 feet in the air and jump from the top of buildings, crushing bricks on impact.

and to note, I was very very against the idea of someone else being Shredder. The trailer changed my mind.

"Goes through changes" makes me think he takes whatever form of ooze he's working on and becomes the "super soldier" or whatever he was trying to create.

That'll be the climax. Super Eric Sachs vs 4 huge turtle hulks.

That I can buy. He created the good guys and he'll create the bad guy.

It's going to be like Jason X lol

The scumbags made him into white man Eric Sachs.

Every Asian person in the world should be morally offended.

Probably best if you don't try to tell how entire ethnic groups of people ought to feel...

This is not connected to anything but Why is it when you Cast Black man in white man character okay, like new Johny Storm but if you cast white man as black character everyone loses their ****, Imagine Luke Cage played by a white guy? To me any race change is sinful, no matter the race...

It's about representation.

The default is white male.

So making a white character whose race isn't integral to his character isn't that bad.

But a black character or any other race of character being made white is not a good thing.

There was a lot of disappointment regarding Sam Jackson being cast as nick fury. Mixing ultimate universe with regular etc

I have a feeling this Shredder's suit will be something along the lines of that exoskeleton Matt Damon had in Elysium.

Or The Silver Samurai armor in The Wolverine.

Such a bummer.

Funny thing is, every time I saw the poster of the Silver Samurai, it made me think of 2003 Shredder.
