View Full Version : Will Leonardo stab somebody? Will Raph?

We've all seen how it goes in past iterations - Leo has swords, and Raph, sais, but neither of them were ever given any clearance to use them (in the cartoons), cause lets face it, that would end pretty violently. (unless they are robots, and nobody really cares if a robot gets cut in half - a human moreso)

Given the tone of the new film (the little we have seen), do you guys think that they'll finally put their weaponry to use? Do you even want to see that?

I for one, love the whole thing Raph does in the new Nick show, where he uses the prongs of the sai to trap an opponents arm and ultimately flip them, and considering his brawler nature in this film, seems like something that would be in line with his character.

As for Leo, while I don't really want him making a bloody mess of people, not my thing; but I would love to see some slo-mo shots of him precision cutting past and through the foot's armor to expose weak points that he eventually kicks in. precision cutting to me shows more skill than brawn.

Stabbing isn't exactly the right way to use a Sai, but I wouldn't hold it against the scrip writer to not know that since most incarnations handles the Sai as a stiletto rather then an actual Sai, and Hulkael certainly looks strong enough to pierce skin, tissue, muscle and bone with just a Sai prong...

I'm sure we'll see Leo's sword get contact with the Foot, but not showing any visible cuts and they fall in such a manner the wounds won't show up directly on the screen. Similar to recent Marvel movies. There is wounds and lethal contact, but the camera don't dwell in the sight too much.

I expect if they do injure/kill any of the foot military it be on the scale like for example when Wolverine killing enemys in X-Men films and the 2 Wolverine films. Also I expect it be very quick or off screen.

If Shredder is making him do it, he must be taking it out on a failure like Tatsu did in the original.

Maybe he throws a sword in front of the kneeling soldier and it's just implied that he does it.

It's promising. I assume they can have as much violence as the X-Men movies, and even Transformers had some quick but some gruesome deaths (Skorpinok stabbed right through that soldiers torso with his tail in plain view. It was fast, but it was there!)

And, I can always go back to my LOTR, which have beautiful and violent fight scenes.

Because Donnie and Mike have the weapons that cause blunt force trauma rather than lacerations, I think it's reason they featured more readily as making actual contact with any enemies.

I would love to see a foot take a chuck to the head, but more than that, I wanna see Mikey get into a battle with a 'fellow chucker' again.

In the nick episode Fungus Humongous there's a very, very brief moment where Leo glances at his katana while having been convinced that he failed his brothers. I think they'd get away with a guy about to stab himself in the gut before the camera cuts away in a PG-13/12-A film. Remember Joker and his pencil trick? That was in a PG-13 film too.

If they do it, it'll probably be like the pool stick scene. Where you know they are going to fight until the death.

Foot: What is my punishment?

*Shredder throws the sword to the kneeling Foot member, it's blade lighting up, shooting sparks and sliding on the concrete floor, stopping just before the knees.

*Foot Soldier looks up at Shredder with a face of death.

I doubt they explain seppukku, just a bone toss that'll probably be in the deleted scenes.

I have no problem with them using deadly force as needed. In the comics, the early ones, at least, they had no problem taking out enemies. Now, considering what audience this movie is reaching for, which is as wide of one as possible, I doubt we'll see any graphic violence. I'm hoping it isn't too cartoony or silly, but we'll have to see.

With the way they were tossing Foot around like rag-dolls, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few of them get skewered. Or beat to death. Even the original movie had one Foot get electrocuted! Pretty sure he didn't survive that. And then there were the ones who were unconscious when the building went up in flames. We never saw any of them being dragged out. You think Tatsu cared if they lived? I see this one doing something similar.

Well, if it's PG-13, they really can't complain too much.

I was thinking, another movie to look back to that had some edgy scenes would be the Star Wars movies. In TPM, we do see Qui Gon get stabbed in the chest and Obi Wan slices Darth Maul right in half. And in Revenge of the Sith, there is Yoda who cuts two storm troopers heads clean off. What with this movie having the foot soldiers with full masks on, I can see Leo doing something similar.

Well, to be honest, this was done before the PG-13 rating existed, and I think they will let violence pass if it's nature causing the violence. And they will let nudity pass if it's for medical situations (like in The Abyss) artistic interpretations (like Titanic) or for Tribal cultures (like Sheena)

Steven Spielberg I think is the one that got the PG-13 rating going because of his movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Note: I was realizing, Michael Bay may have a lot of action in his movies, but they tend to not be very gory or bloody, huh? Compared to Steven Spielberg, who is like a freaking grand master at getting maximized violence and gore in PG-13 movies. Poltergeist was a movie he produces, had some pretty gory moments. Jurassic Park had some frightening scenes (remember the arm) And of course, Jaws.

That and Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom (with a heart being ripped out in a 'PG' movie). The first PG-13 film was Red Dawn.

As for the topic, they won't have Leo or Raph stab anybody. The worse will be a punch to the face, a kick, and throwing people. That's it. It'd be unlikely to even see Mikey hitting someone in the face with his weapons.

The closest you'll get is the 1990 film, where Leo cut the Shredder's arm a little bit during a fight scene.

No, you were right. Gremlins and Temple of Doom helped make PG-13. Because Spielberg was with both of those (produced Gremlins and directed Temple of Doom) and was mad at the flack that they were getting for being too 'intense' for a PG rating. So he went to the MPAA and said "shouldn't there be a rating between PG and R?"

And then the first PG-13 film was pretty much Red Dawn.

I hope they show some slicing and stabbing and when people get hit with the bo or nun chucks they will actually get pushed back or crack an arm or make a head snap as muscly as they are in this, it would make sense.

I doubt we'll be seeing too much intense violence in this movie. TMNT always tends to have trouble being as violent as it wants to be, because the ninja combat tends to be taken a lot more seriously than more fantasy-based combat. Since this movie is going to most likely shoot for a PG-13 rating, we'll probably see very little onscreen stabbing, if any.

At least pistol whipping is an actual think unlike cutting and slicing with a Sai, as a Sai is a bludgeoning weapon and have no sharp edge or any sharp bits.

But then why use Sai at all then?

If to change them completely to make them do a task they are not designed to do, it'd be better to get a stabbing weapon instead, like a stiletto, or Kama.

And a Sai modified to stab, would be a bad idea as the basic positions with Sai keeps it rather close to your body, easy for self harming if you're too careless and quick enough.

They do this to piss people like u off. Raphael uses his modified sais and muscle to do whatever he pleases to do and nothing you cry and whine about will change that. And oh, for the record a guy was arrested and charged for murder down in miami for stabbing a bouncer at a night club in the eye with a sai, so people do use them for stabbing in real life regardless what the are supposed to be used for.

And this is raphael we are talking about who never does what he is supposed to do. Why do you fret so much on something so trivial?

Candy Kappa
04-04-2014, 12:45 PM
Yeah, a quick horror story with having sharp weapons close to your body. My TSKSR instructor had a story about one time she was on a onstage show with several other sword men practitioners, there was this one guy in front of her dressed in a fine white silk kimono.

After doing a series of regular cuts (maki uchi men) suddenly the guy in the white kimono was red on his left side originating from his shoulder. He had during the cutting stabbed his own shoulder without noticing it, and was bleeding fast. When the show was over he needed some serious medical attention. Now imagine that happening when quickly doing into a neutral pose with a pair of sharp Sai, even just dagger like pointy. There will easily be some self harm.

Edit: Of course you can use the prongs to stab someone through the eye, it's a lot softer then going. Through chest or stomach. Literally anything long cylindrical and thin enough to penetrate an eye can be used for eye gouging. Heck, a guy was stabbed with a pencil at a comic-con. That's not the point.
