So I was just looking for TMNT tags on Instagram and I found Danny Woodburn's account and Minae Noji's account. They put "Splinter" and "Karai" in their hashtags.

I also found the stunt woman for Karai, and she confirmed that Karai was in the flick.

I always appreciate little finds like this...almost a behind the scenes glimpse at the dynamic these actors have built during their time together which I hope translates well on screen.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Karai in the trailer, it was brief and she was being thrown into a wall, but cool just the same.

What I mean is the Foot Clan is a Japanese organization of crime. Why would an organization dating back to ancient Japan (and in this movie we see Sachs looking at Japanese scrolls from the past), have a white man as their leader? A guy who has no Japanese ancestory at all?

I've never heard of a ninja clan having a crusty white man as their leader.

I'm so excited for this movie, but I'm questioning why they cast him too. It's probably the weirdest casting for this film. Even more than Fichtner as Shredder. I feel like they did it just because of his size. I feel like they're aiming for just a short stumpy character. Not sure if he's gonna sound like a white dude instead of a Japanese man. Will he be a white man mutated into splinter as a rat? Or just providing mo cap and voice?

My guess is that Karai will simply be an officer in Sach's foot clan, addressed by name a few times and nothing more; basically thrown in as fan service… seems to happen in a lot of film adaptations. I doubt they've added a Karai plot line into the film, or made her a major character; she's not well enough known to casual fans to warrant it.

Just my gut feeling. Probably this film's version of Master Tatsu in the original.

I dunno, you could think that, but then, she's actually shown in the trailer twice, and has a lego figure coming out. Doubt they'd bother with all that if she was just that.

Also, now that it's been confirmed that that's Karai, I've upgraded my sig to feature 2014 movie Karai as well. Wish I had something other then her smashing into a subway wall but you do with what you have. Until something better comes along anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I hope there's more to it than that. Even if they keep her kind of shrouded in mystery, and hint that there is a deeper story there that could be explored in a sequel, I'd be pretty happy. Maybe show off her skills in a fight against the Turtles that proves she's way above the rest of the Foot soldiers in kind of a "where did SHE come from?" way. I'm wildly speculating, but the possibilities are getting me excited!

Then again, all we've seen of her so far is being thrown into a wall.

So, only people with extreme accents can be Hollywood ninjas?

Seeing how real life Shinobi had to learn acting skills and adapting for infiltration, like KGB spies posing as regular citizens in USA, I'm pretty sure lack of accent is the least of this movie's concern.

Karai in the 2007 flick was actually good. Her voice was authentic and her look and mask were done right. I just hated that they chose such a tooney look for the character designs. The arms and legs were so toony. And the story was terrible to top it off.

That's not what I said at all. I said no such thing. Read it again before posting.

I said I'm curious because of her having an American accent that if she'll already be born and brought up in America as a Foot member. Or if she'll use an Asian accent in the movie, likely suggesting that she spent her time in Japan and then came to America: likely suggesting that she might be the head of the Japanese faction.

I must be one of the few who liked 2007's TMNT.

Karai was really good and her look was fine for the style. The stylistic look of the humans aren't that much different than the current Nick toon imo.

The story wasn't terrible either, it just wasn't what you'd think for a theatrical reboot of the franchise for a movie meant to kick off a series of movies or new cartoon. If it had been better built up to make some of the weak plot points make more sense, it would have been a pretty good extended season finale for a series rather than a stand alone movie.

I'd imagine a "modern ninja clan" would utilize bombs and grenades like real Shinobi did, and the use sniper rifles of various sorts, small fire arms with silencers easy to hide on-person. Compact bows or hand crossbows. Combat knives and garrote.

But, the more real the ninja gets the more boring they will be, cause car bombs and other timed explosives.

I'd assume because while wearing the Nightwatcher costume he could go more openly into situations. He just waltzed into the diner with the owner and a patron in there not worrying about them freaking out about a walking giant turtle because he's all costumed up in gear.

Raph's not the most subtle/stealthy of ninja, so being able to waltz in head first was likely pretty appealing to him.

The idea of Raphael basically saying, "The criminals aren't going to stop so I'm not." So he puts on a costume, to hide his identity from his family, so he could fight crime his way. No more sneaking in the shadows, no more sitting around and making plans. It was Raphael unleashed. But still coming from a place of care and compassion for the people.

And he was the only turtle who wasn't sitting on his butt, feeling defeated.

Well, wasn't there a comic that gave light to the situation? I can't remember in detail, but The Nightwatcher wasn't always Raphael, but someone else, who was trying to stop crime, and then he bit off more than he could chew, and Raph was there, and tried to help him, but the guy ended up dying in his arms. But before he died, the guy gave him the suit and the bike, and so Raph, kind of pissed that this man died trying to do what he and his brothers used to do before their hiatus, and decided to go ahead and take up the mantel.

That is what happened, as best as I can remember. Doesn't change my feelings about it, though. I think it's a wonderful story for Raph.

"Nightwatcher" never really sat well with me. Why would a Turtle wearing a disguise wear another disguise on top of his disguise... to protect his identity from whom, for why? From his brothers, I guess? That's stupid.

I get it, but I dont. Raph still wanted to do the whole save the city from the bad guys thing, even with Leo gone, but wanted to distance himself from his family at the same time, what better way then create a whole new persona that has nothing to do with the Ninja Turtles.

Honestly though, I just didnt like it. I understand why they did it...but still didnt like it.

actually, i am pretty sure thats exactly why, his brothers, to protect his family

its one reason i live 2007 film they really focused on the family side of the tmnt

The family side of TMNT 2007 was the only thing that I can say I really admired... but I don't see that "protecting" his brothers had anything to do with his Nightwatchering. If anything, it was to prevent them from noticing him going out and fighting crime alone... but why would he even care? Why would they care?

I can't believe they cast that gay cowboy from Brokeback Mountain as The Joker! Oh wait, that turned out great.

Well said.

Yeah, after ditching his brothers in fighting Triceratons, he saves a token victim-girl like every single superhero movie clihce uses. Probably killing 2 of the thugs, if not three. Then he's greeted by David Merryweather, who is revealed to be a former crime fighter now retired due to old age.

When David gets fatally shot from a breakin in his own home, he gives Raph the Nightwatcher suit, the chains and the bike.
