I posted this in the trailer (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showpost.php?p=1252613&postcount=28) thread but I think it is worthy of its own thread. Sorry I did a search and although news of this broke on March 25th I didn't find anyone mention it...

Two comments from me. 1) They look really cool to me 2) I hate post-converted 3D, so i'm no sure if I'll even get me a pair of these or not. Maybe if I rummage through the 3d glasses 'drop box' and find some? :)
Collider (http://instagram.com/p/l-fU1UJMoi/#) first broke the info. No word on which theaters will have these... possibly all of the ones doing 3D showings.

They where posted a while ago in one of the movie threads, but that's probably long gone, deleted by the mods.
The glasses do look nice, and might be the only PD movie merc I'll get.

I never understood the appeal of these things. Seems like a complete waste of money to me. They look like they would add weight to the glasses, making them uncomfortable, and add nothing to the experience m outside of giving you a collectible to put on a shelf.
Candy Kappa
04-22-2014, 06:12 AM
It looks like they strap around your head, so they aren't like regular glasses. I don't think the added weight would be a issue, the Despicable Me 2 goggles worked fine, and they look great.

I, as someone who wears glasses, think they won`t fit.
It feels weird to wear 3d glasses and my normal ones and I didn`t expect that they thought of this little problem.

Even of they're held on with a strap, it still doesn't sound very comfortable, or at least less comfortable than just wearing the regular glasses. And I don't even get the point. It's something you wear, but you wear it in a dark room while everyone is looking at a screen. I don't know. It's just definitely not something that appeals to me.
Candy Kappa

Well, the DM2 goggles are working fine, and comes with their own small bag so they don't get dirty, if that's the case with the TMNT ones they'll be a nice replacement whenever I'm going to see a 3-D movie, a rare occurrence but it's nice to have glasses ready instead of buying the regular ones every time we forget our 3-D glasses.

Wait, you're saying your theater charges you less if you bring your own glasses? I've never seen a theater do this. They just charge extra for the tickets to 3D movies and throw in the glasses "free."
I could definitely see the appeal if you're getting charged specifically for glasses.

You have to buy the glasses separately, there is no requirement in my cinema about purchasing new glasses for each 3-D viewing.

That's the thing that is confusing me, that your cinema is treating it as "buying" the glasses. Where I am, the glasses are cheap plastic things that you drop in a bin on your way out of the theater, so you're not really "buying" them, though it's certainly very easy to just pocket them and take them home. You can bring your own pair if you like, but it won't impact the cost of your ticket. Are you located in the US? I wonder if it's a regional thing.
Candy Kappa
04-22-2014, 01:54 PM
No, I live in Norway.
We don't have a glasses bin, and I am kinda glad of that as you buy a new pair of glasses. I listen to the Major Spoilers Podcast, and they discussed 3-D and the 3-D glasses, and they mentioned a study where they had swapped samples of the glasses and actually found not only harmful bacteria on the reused glasses, but also fecal matter.. Yuck.

I think there are SOME things posted on this forum that are not dumb and pointless like...um... I don't know... The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Lol
But yeah those glasses are more for the kids. Remember, kids like the turtles too! Me at 8 years old would have loved a pair of those. Me as a grown man- well they might be a cool souvenir but they look a bit uncomfortable. I might buy a pair just to have but I'll stick with 2D or the polarize glasses for the film itself.

They look cool, but 3D is disgusting. I can't believe people pay hundreds of dollars extra for 3D TVs.
The only 3D showing I can remember where I didn't feel like barfing the whole time was Hugo, and that was because it was very bare-bones 3D (i.e. nothing jumping out at you or trying to be impressive).

I agree. Martin Scorsese used the 3D as a tool to help tell the story and convey emotion rather than just a gimmick to get more money at the cinema. Avatar is a good example of this too but not as perfected as Hugo.

IDK they have come a long way with post converted 3d. Personally if i can i go to 3d i just feel more immersed into the movie Ive never really gotten sick or dizzy only issue i have is that my local theater does not have "screens" they have white painted walls so i can see the seams in the wall and while watching in 3d my ADHD kicks in and some time get distracted. but not very often

I did 3D conversion for several years. In the beginning especially right after Avatar came out, several studios rushed the conversion process just to capitalize on the whole 3D novelty. Around the time of Hugo, 2011-ish, 3D was getting such a bad reputation that the studios wised up. Also the digital cameras got better so now most 3D films are shot natively. If they are converted, the process has been perfected to the point where its hard to tell what has been shot and what has been converted. I think this movie was shot natively but I could be wrong. Sorry. I'm a nerd lol

I really don't mind 3D. I've seen some pretty cool films in which the 3D made them better, in my opinion. Don't think I've seen a film in 3D that wasn't filmed for it though...

Maybe you can fashion a simple 3-D pair into a clip-on, like those clip-on sunglasses you can attach to your glasses. I also need glasses to see, but I have been using contact lenses for well over 10 years. Never looked back on using glasses, still have my old pair, but they are severely outdated as my eyesight have decreased a lot.
3-D glasses are really a crude solution to view a movie in 3-D, our 1st year 3D animation teacher couldn't enjoy the early showing of the movie Bolt, because it was in 3-D and he have a lazy eye, so the 3-D glasses don't work for him. He watched the entire movie without the glasses.

So Oakley's Has eye wear that are both for 3d movie polarized and prescriptions i believe but they're hella expensive it would only be a matter of refitting the lens on the "disposable" one onto prescription glasses

Honestly, I wish there was a better alternative for those of us who HAVE to wear glasses. I can't even wear contacts anymore, because my eyesight is so bad naturally that no contacts are strong enough. Gotta wear frames, and even the "featherweight" ones are still so thick and heavy that it feels like wearing coke bottle bottoms. Without them, I'm virtually blind. Just one big blur of colors. Thank goodness I've memorized my touch screen at work well enough to do it without seeing the exact buttons if I need to take them off! (Which I sometimes do if the headset starts to give me a headache.... And I STILL get the orders right. Wish others who can SEE could do that. :tgrumble: )

Really hoping people can buy them separately at the theater as well without the 3D ticket...
Edit: Heard back from Cinemark. Still doesn't offer much info, but they had this to say:
Stephanie - Select TMNT locations will have specially marked 3D glasses but unfortunately these are not available for purchase separately. Locations and quantity of glasses are while supplies last.
But can I just show up and get a pair with intentions of seeing it another day.. :\

Thank you, please do. I'd not been intending on seeing it in 3D, largely out of concerns for how my glasses would fit with those and if it messes with the peripheral vision since it's prob not as close up on your face.
If it won't work too well, I hope they do not require a 3D ticket in order to get them, that is no fair to glasses wearers if it won't work.

I'm planning on seeing Turtles at my AMC theater, so I'll report back if they have the 3D glasses. Seems if you can prove you're a Stubs member, you get a free cloth Ninja Turtle mask, but doesn't say anything about the cool 3D glasses on their website. Tried calling multiple times, but for some reason, no one never picks up and I get a recording saying my theater is not available right now. So, I'll keep trying to call from time to time to see if I can find out any information. As soon as I do (or even if I go see it and am able to get a pair) I'll let you guys know. Figures. Louisiana, you're lucky if you ever speak to anyone, actually. Sometimes you have to figure this stuff out as you go to do things. But I'm planning on going the opening Saturday. Unless someone beats me to it first.

Stubs? whats that

AMC Theaters have this rewards program called the "Stubs" program. You get points for every movie ticket you buy, and after so much is saved up, you can use it for ticket upgrades, free popcorn, free soda, etc type deal. Seems (according to AMC website) if you can prove you're a Stubs Rewards member, you get a free Ninja Turtle mask (cloth-not the 3D glasses everyone's been mentioning). It's limited amount, so I suppose the cloth masks are first come, first serve type deal, but at least if you're a rewards member, you get a little added bonus when you see the Turtles movie.
I am not a member, but my friend tagging along is. So, he can at least get it. He may be nice enough and get a Raph one for my nephew (though wish he'd just let me take the offer but lol)
By the way, they FINALLY picked up at the AMC theaters and the guy told me they won't know anything about any 3D glasses concerning the Turtles movie until like Wednesday or so, so I shall call back around that time and see what I can find out for everyone (at least with AMC Theaters)

if your going to a screening your theater wont know anything about it... it would be the representatives that come to show the movie that would bring them and you wouldnt know till you got there... same crap happened with me 2 nights ago... and unfortunately they didnt have them only foam hands and mini posters...
hopefully when movie actually comes out they will have them for 3D them at the theaters

Very very much hoping they'll turn out to be purchasable or something.
Wasn't planning on using my free ticket the first day and not sure if I could do the 3D with my glasses since those masks are a wrap around style (and unsure about the peripheral vision), and now my dad has a procedure scheduled at the hospital on the 8th and if it ends up requiring an overnight stay for him I can't really justify running off to see a movie while he's got crap going on... :ohwell: Hoping I can just stop in my nearest theater and buy a pair that afternoon while they still have them. :ohwell: It would make sense if they'd sell them, or as an option to get additional pairs, since I'm sure some people probably want all four.

I know this. That's why the guy's manager (at my local AMC Theaters) said the reps are going to be contacting them and discussing stuff with them on Wednesday, including TMNT stuff. So, I'm going based off what the gentleman on the phone told me. Said they would know something by Wednesday after speaking to the representatives.
If he hadn't mentioned anything about reps, I'd never make a post on here about the glasses, cause you know. Wouldn't want to get anyone's hopes up. Just basing it off what the man said. He sounded like maybe they had been discussing TMNT stuff for a while now. Since they show Real 3D there and such. But, what do I know? If anything guys, when I go see it opening Saturday, I'll report back if we did find 3D glasses there and let you guys know, of course.

It looks like these are hitting ebay from sellers attending premieres. Based on a photo I found on Instagram, they are being sold for $9.99 plus tax based on the display. Another photo I found tonight.

So Cinemark is supposedly giving these away free (pic from their FB page). Not the mask but still potentially another collectable, if basic, pair of 3D glasses. (Not sure if it's just Cinemark though.)
Be the first to see TMNT Movie and get a FREE pair of RealD 3D glasses.

Still trying to find information, confirmation, something... Asked Cinemark about it again via FB, they had this to say:
The special mask 3D glasses are only available for giveaway on our Facebook page. See our post from this afternoon. Good luck!
:ohwell: I was gonna run over to their theater nearest me just to see, but now not so sure. Afraid this could turn out like those pizza boxes. :\
Btw, if you've got Cinemark (or are at least in the U.S.?), this is the post they're referring to if you want to enter:

Probably sometime between tomorrow and Monday, hopefully tomorrow night if able. Different theater but not holding my breath on them either since they've likewise said on Facebook that they supposedly don't have them.
That would be awesome if you're able to get hold of an extra pair of those blue ones, thank you. :D I've got PayPal if that will work, or which ever way would be easiest to pay you back.

So I went to see the movie last night (by default was really going to watch DBZ) 730pm showing in Edgewater, NJ. Was lucky enough to get a free pair of the Limited Edition 3D glasses & poster. Called everywhere this morning and only was offered a bandana. Called the theatre I went last night and was told they only had received 250 glasses and were all gone by the end of the night. Google said certain theaters were getting these glasses.

Just came back from the theater. I initially passed on these but once I got to my seat and saw people with them I had to get them. After the movie, I went back out but there were only 2 Donnie masks left still in the bags and 1 Mikey on display. So I bought a donnie mask and asked for the Mikey on display. I hope they get more, I'd like to get the Raph and Leo. My son is loving them.
BTW, I'm in Toronto, ON, Canada. Saw the show at the Queensway theater for you locals.

We're going to the North Oshawa Cineplex.
There's a smaller theatre in my actual town, but it's older and tiny so I rarely go. You don't need a ticket to access to concession stand so I may pop in there tomorrow morning and see if they have them...just to be safe. I've already made the 'daddy promise' to my son and got him all excited. I never thought they'd be selling out!

That 'daddy promise' is a killer. My son is 2 and a half but I feel horrible if I tell him something and I do otherwise. The theater I went to is in South Etobicoke and is pretty popular. People from downtown drive out there since there is parking and just off the Gardiner. There's also a new VIP section and two AVX screens. So I'm not surprised it sold out there. I may stop off in the Coliseum tomorrow during the day to see if they have Raph and Leo masks. Those seem to be the popular ones.

Saw it at a Regal as well, not a thing. Not even a cardboard cut out anywhere, just the posters on the wall.
Honestly, you know how places like Disney are covered in gift shops, and some of their biggest attractions exit through one? Wouldn't you think theaters would just have a straight up gift shop and carry an amount of merchandise for their current newest movies? What better time to get people to pick up a t-shirt and whatnot on their way out.

Don't we all... Sadly it seems the larger majority of theaters did not bother.
That actually kinda bummed me out a bit over that, after the Pizza Hut thing largely bombed as it was. This stuff was not this hard to get right years ago.
Hoping to get hold of the blue ones still at some point, but could be wishful thinking.
