Box Office Mojo has posted an article containing the Box Office Predictions to several of the big Summer Movies for 2014, Which includes TMNT.
http://boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=3826&p=.htm
11. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (August 8 ) : With the potential to add to already impressive toy sales, it makes financial sense to bring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back to the big screen. The first teaser left something to be desired, though, and the mid-August release date is tricky (with Guardians a week before, can this really break out?). It's possible that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles performs on par with 2009 toy adaptation G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra ($150.2 million), but for now we're betting lower on it. (Domestic: $130 million, Foreign: $255 million)

That seems about right. Unfortunately that would be enough for a sequel.

Based on Micheal Bay's box office performance and with TMNT being a previously established franchise (similarly with Transformers), I'm guessing around $550 million. (Basically a little higher than the article predicted: $385 million) The nostalgia factor, the Nick show being out (Nick advertising it to kids, and thus them wanting their parents to take them), and the mere curiosity value after "so many years" for the mainstream adult audience will give it that added push.

So unless this film is just that horrible in being a bomb (where not even the action scenes and special effects can save a horrible plot), and looking at his past involvement with films, if there's ever a big budget of over $100 million (this film already has a $125 million budget), he certainly delivers the revenue the companies are looking for of at least around $400 million.

It'll make money....much like the Transformers movies. It might not be a critical or fan darling, but it'll make a lot of money.

Absolutely.. I also think it will perform the way Transformers did. Financially anyway. I just don't understand why these sites predict such a low turnout.. I hope this film has a breakout performance.

I'm skeptical that it will do worse than GI Joe domestically but way better overseas when TMNT movies have never done that well in foreign markets.

I really don't see this making Transformers money. This will make money, for sure, but it's not going to shatter any records.

I can't see it topping $200m domestic, I think the $150 is a realistic goal.

Thing about Transformers is it has the "cool cars" thing going for it, lots of people love movies with that element to it. Fast and the Furious series as another example. Makes for a great date movie. But kinda-ugly looking mutant turtles? Maybe less so for the average joe.

As a franchise, I definitely prefer TMNT, but I don't think it has the perfect storm of elements to make it a huge blockbuster on the TF level.

If it made that amount I think Paramount would be very happy. Especially if they managed to keep the budget below 150 million.

I would love it if this film just blew fans out of the water - perhaps because expectations are low, it might just surprise us.

hopefully.

As I’ve said before I cannot see this film outright flopping. If Paramount managed to keep the budget below 150 million dollars (which is a bizarrely moderate budget in this day and age for this type of film), then I think profit is assured.

It likely won't beat Guardians, (and if it does it won't be by much) especially if that film will only be in its second week.

The film will probably have a strong enough start, but will quickly decline in the following weeks.

I think it will. This film might very well gross triple its budget. Curiosity recognition and nostalgia alone will push it over the 300 mil mark : ). I just cant wait for it to actually happen so these magazines can eat their words.

I think it'll do G.I. Joe money, but that's about it. I don't know where anyone is getting this idea that it can be some colossal box office juggernaut based strictly on the popularity of the franchise. Half of the people the franchise is so popular with have hated this film from the second Michael Bay opened his mouth. I know plenty of casual nostalgic Turtles fans who have no desire to see this movie, and there are countless hardcore fans on the internet who clearly won't be paying any money to watch this thing.

Let's put it this way - Captain America: The Winter Soldier had nothing but positive hype surrounding it since it was announced, it was a follow-up to Cap's story arc from The Avengers, and quite frankly it's a Marvel film in general. Now, it's sitting at $213 million after three weeks and will basically be capping off next week with the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and then a couple weeks later with X-Men for sure. If something with as much positive buzz and momentum as Cap 2 is only going to crack $250 or so, there isn't a chance in hell this TMNT film does anything close to some of these outlandish predictions of $300 or $400 million. I'm giving it $150 at best, and I'll gladly eat my words if I'm wrong, but I don't count on it.

Here's a fact: no movie released in August has ever cracked $300 million domestic total gross (http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/weekends/month/?mo=08&sort=gross&order=DESC&p=.htm). Only four have ever surpassed $200 million.

Take a look at the top grossers for July releases (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/weekends/month/?mo=07&sort=gross&order=DESC&p=.htm) and you'll see that expectations in August are much lower.

G.I. Joe level or lower is a good bet.

Bob
04-26-2014, 02:13 PM
With all due respect nobody ever said 300 million domestic was happening. Not many films make that kind of money. It will certainly far exceed 100 million overseas. It will exceed 200 million overseas. It will more than likely get to at least 100 million domestically. I think that it will end up doing between 300 and 350 worldwide. If the budget didn’t go over 130 million, then Paramount will be satisfied with that. A moderate success.

General rule of thumb is that a film needs to make at least twice its budget to be considered a success.

Paramount was also smart to move the film from June 6 to August 8 because Edge of Tomorrow, which opens the same weekend that this movie was going to debut is not tracking very well. It was also smart to avoid competition from this films listed below.

Moviegoers right now are focused more on upcoming titles “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “Transformers: Age of Extinction” and “Maleficent,” according to Phil Contrino, chief analyst at BoxOffice.com.

http://variety.com/2014/film/news/warner-bros-tom-cruise-gear-up-to-make-sure-tomorrow-never-dies-1201183917/

Guardians of the Galaxy which opens a week earlier might debut strong, but it will most likely have a steep drop in its second weekend.

That seems about right. Unfortunately that would be enough for a sequel.

G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra made $150 million domestically against a budget of $175 million, but its foreign grosses, which brought its worldwide total to $302 million, and home video sales helped it turn a profit and green-light a sequel. I'm sure that will happen with this film as well and how well the merchandise sells will also depend on a sequel too.

What's this prediction based on?

Here's a list of the biggest second-week box office drops (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/weekends/drops.htm). There are some exceptions, but I'd say a majority of these are movies that weren't very good, or flash-in-the-pan stuff like concert movies, or generally stuff that would have had poor word-of-mouth at the time. Anything's possible, but I'm more optimistic that GotG will have rather good word-of-mouth, if anything.

I really don't know what most of those movies are. But, a lot of times, nerd stuff has a big drop. Movies with a niche fanbase. They all go see it when it comes out, and nobody else cares. I remember people being super hyped about Watchmen, and that movie made money for exactly three days, and stopped.

Superhero type films usually have large drops in their second weekend if its either due to word of mouth or competition from other releases. Look what happened to Man of Steel, Hulk, and Green Lantern. Not only did word-of-mouth hurt Man of Steel, but tough competition from Monsters University and World War Z hurt it. A non-superhero type film this year, Godzilla, opened to $93.2 million, but suffered a 66.8% because X-Men: Days of Future Past opening the following week. And finally, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 broke many box office records in its opening weekend, but it declined 72% the following weekend since Captain America: The Winter Soldier had debuted that same weekend.

Seriously Why do you guys always defend GOTG?

And what makes you think GOTG will have good WOM?, What makes you think it's even going to be good?

It has very strong marketing and trailers, it's based on some highly-regarded source material, and the director and producers have a great track record.

Here's a question back: why is it you've been jumping to argue against GotG so often?

Superhero type films usually have large drops in their second weekend if its either due to word of mouth or competition from other releases. Look what happened to Man of Steel, Hulk, and Green Lantern.

In fairness, those three movies had mixed word-of-mouth at best. Same goes for Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Compare that to Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which was very highly-regarded and dominated the box office for three weekends straight. I'm not arguing that GotG is going to match its performance (it won't), but if it's genuinely good and has great word-of-mouth, it has a much better chance of staying afloat longer.

Because people are always willing to defend GOTG, just because the trailers were good, i'm sure if TMNT had better marketing people would flock to see TMNT regardless of how they look, kids will always like TMNT better than some tree *I mean groot, and some raccoon, a green lady, a boring outlaw, a green painted wrestler, just don't understand the fascination with them

Mainly because what they've shown had been pretty good at looking good while still not revealing much. They've been trickling out footage and showing some gags and jokes, giving an overall feel for the film.

Why will it have good word of mouth, why do people think it will be good?

In Whedon we trust.

Did you just call Rocket a raccoon? *stays away from Leo and looks around for incoming gunfire* ;)

For the record, because of the movies, my friend's 7 year old daughter is totally into everything Marvel. She knows who the Guardians are from the Avengers cartoon. She can tell you all about the Infinity Gauntlet. She knows nothing about TMNT and has no interest in it at all, nor do his other three kids.

I don't get your point here. Why is "the trailers were good" a reason to argue against it?

People are willing to defend GotG because it's won them over and they're excited to see it. The marketing has done its job.

i'm sure if TMNT had better marketing people would flock to see TMNT regardless of how they look

The suggestion here is that TMNT doesn't have better marketing. How is this a reason to argue against GotG, then? If anything, that sounds like a reason to argue against TMNT's marketing team.

kids will always like TMNT better than some tree *I mean groot, and some raccoon, a green lady, a boring outlaw, a green painted wrestler, just don't understand the fascination with them

And people might have said the same about Iron Man before 2008, but one damn good movie shot him from the Marvel Comics B-list into a beloved, massively popular A-list character.

The Guardians aren't likely to reach the same heights, but if the movie is good and catches on, you might be surprised.

Here's some news that should comfort us fans.

Here's a riddle: When is a turtle bigger than a giant fire-breathing lizard or a huge alien robot? Answer: When it's a teenage mutant ninja turtle.
The reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles flexed a little of that turtle power on trailer watchers last week. The debut coming attraction for the August action-comedy recorded 31.4 million YouTube views, according to technology company Zefr, which tracks the numbers.

The TMNT preview had a better first week than any other summer movie coming out in 2014. Godzilla and Transformers: Age of Extinction both opened to 26.3 million views; Amazing Spider-Man 2 did 19.7 million.

Yes, and I said that GotG was unlikely to reach the same heights as Iron Man. It wasn't a direct comparison - just an example. Iron Man was a "known" character beforehand, but he wasn't massively popular until that movie came out. I'm just saying that one good, well-marketed movie can launch a franchise into the public consciousness, and there's really no guarantee that "kids will always like TMNT better" than any other franchise just because they may be more popular right now. These things aren't static.

Would anyone have expected an Iron Man movie to make more money than a Spider-Man movie before 2008? I kind of doubt it, but that's what's happening (http://www.the-movie-times.com/thrsdir/top60dir/VS.mv?Iron_Man_3+Spider-Man_3).

I've seen TMNT a whopping 0. :(

My friend saw it at AMC's showing of X-Men. Others here have seen it in theaters too, but it's not showing everywhere with the summer blockbusters.

You can be sure every theater will have it with Transformers, though.

When the online post is almost the only place to see it, you'll get more hits there.

I did not get to post this in the thread that discussed Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub joining the cast, but I'm not surprised that Knoxville was given the job after reading this the other day.

Paramount Pictures has signed Johnny Knoxville and his Hello Junior banner to an exclusive 2-year first-look deal. This comes after Deadline revealed that he was brought in to voice Leonardo in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and it follows a long string of hits with the studio including the Jackass films and Bad Grandpa. Those Jackass films have earned $336 million globally, and Bad Grandpa did just over $150 million worldwide.

“Johnny is hilarious,” said Brad Grey, Chairman & CEO of Paramount Pictures. “I have known him for many years now, and I am constantly impressed and in awe of his unwavering commitment to ensure audiences around the world have a great time at the movies.”

It's clear that Paramount believes that his success in Jackass might help the movie and bring some adult audiences. We'll see if he has a big enough fan base.

http://www.deadline.com/2014/05/paramount-taps-jackass-impresario-johnny-knoxville-to-first-look-deal/

Tony Shalhoub is also a very recognized actor who has won many awards for his work on Monk and has appeared in successful movie franchises like Men in Black and Spy Kids, but I'm not entirely sure if he really is a box-office draw. Still, he is a much more well-known actor than Danny Woodburn.

Back in April, Wall Street Cheat Sheet listed the it as one of 12 blockbusters that will burn up the box office this summer. They had this to say:

There’s already a lot of buzz surrounding Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It’s the 8th ranked film on IMDB’s MovieMeter, which means it’s a highly searched term this week, a full four months before it’s due to be released.

Originally a comic book, the ninja turtles were first adapted for screen in 1990. That first film was a commercial success, spawning sequels in 1991 and 1993. Another film for the franchise didn’t follow until 2007, and unlike the previous films, was completely computer generated. Given its low production budget — just $34 million — the film didn’t exactly ‘bomb,’ but it barely ranked in the top 50 films that year, a far cry from a blockbuster. With the king of blockbusters, Michael Bay, behind the upcoming film, it’s fair to say expectations for the reboot are higher.

As demonstrated in 2007, there will always be an audience for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Fortunately, young men in their teens and twenties are the biggest theater-going demographic, and they also happen to be the generation that grew up with the ninja turtles, on film and on TV, as action figures and Halloween costumes. With the same man behind the Transformers franchise lending his expertise to the turtles reboot, and adding Megan Fox for good measure, it seems likely Paramount will have a hit on its hands come August.

I did not get to post this in the thread that discussed Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub joining the cast, but I'm not surprised that Knoxville was given the job after reading this the other day.

It's clear that Paramount believes that his success in Jackass might help the movie and bring some adult audiences. We'll see if he has a big enough fan base.

http://www.deadline.com/2014/05/paramount-taps-jackass-impresario-johnny-knoxville-to-first-look-deal/

This is one of the things that makes me wildly nervous about the movie. I don't wish to be snobby about people who enjoy Jackass and movies like Bad Grandpa, I really don't (so no offense intended to anybody who does enjoy them), it's just... one of those things where I don't understand the appeal, and as such, it makes me wonder once again who the target audience for this movie is meant to be.

That being said, I wasn't happy with the news that Jason Biggs was going to be NickLeo's voice either, and he ended up nailing it - so here's hoping that I'm proven wrong.

If this movie even makes back the cost of its budget ($125 million according to Wikipedia) it still probably won't make enough to warrant a sequel.

If this movie does well, no one will be more surprised than Paramount.

There's just about two months left until this movie comes out; we've got one crappo trailer and a bunch of leaked images as the promotion for this film. Now, is that enough to make the average joe aware of a Ninja Turtles movie? Probably not.

Let's see if happened with G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra can also happen with this movie. Believe it or not I actually do not recall seeing lots of trailers for that film even a few months before it came out. I might have just seen one during a showing of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and that was it. I would see a few posters for it too, but I did not know who was in the film at all until I saw it. That movie went on to make $150 million domestically against a budget of $175 million, but its foreign grosses, which brought its worldwide total to $302 million, and home video sales helped it turn a profit and green-light a sequel.

What would be the possibility of this film to get moved up to July 18, 2014?
Now that Jupiter Ascending is/now getting pushed back to Feb 2015?

Wishful thinking on my behalf....the studio would have to really do some heavy marketing.

Just a theory of mine.

But here's the difference between those folks who have high hopes and those who don't care for the movie I haven't seen too many folks on the pro side proclaiming this movie is going to be the greatest turtle movie ever. Or say this movie will be to the Turtles what Superman(1978)or Superman II was to Superman. I don't understand why some people seem to think that it's just 'blind hate'. Or they look down on some of us who...yes...some of us don't think the movie will be good.

And they back up their own 'Opinions' (not facts, opinions) countless times. Whether you agree or disagree, that's another matter. But I've rarely have seen anyone just 'blindly hate it' without giving Multiple Reasons as to why they're questioning the movie...let alone thinking that it could be a bad flick.

*Designs that some of us particularly do not care for, not because it's 'different and new' but because some of us just think that they look terrible?

*Lack of really any action shown so far, for a supposedly 'action-packed, Big-Budget Summer release'?

*No Martial Arts fighting shown so far for a big-budget film that is supposed to be full of 'Martial Arts Energy' as said by people involved with the movie, as well as the countless references to Martial Arts Classics like Fist of Legend and The Raid Redemption? You can keep 'saying' it all you want. Until you show a taste (not a 'spoil the movie' thing, but a Taste), it's all just talk.

*No hints of showing how some of the Turtles such as Raph or Leo or such will even be portrayed personality wise in the flick? Or even any shots of the Turtles together as a family? Look at the trailer to The Avengers...and that last shot with all of them together as a group. Definitely worked for that one. These are your main characters who have actual personalities and relationships with one another as a family. The movie is supposedly very much about 'family' but so far you don't show any of that bond between your four main characters?

*Not even knowing what kind of tone the movie is going for?

Not even a denial from the makers to soothe some fans' worries in that this isn't just a 'human flick with the Turtles as side/supporting characters'? That wouldn't 'spoil' your movie...unless that IS how the movie is like...

And yet it's 'blind hate'? And hey, not once did I even mention Megan Fox or Michael Bay in any of those reasons up above...

Come on man this is the same sort of BS I heard when the Devil May Cry reboot hysteria was going on. The designs well aren't they real life turtles getting mutated in human form? I suspect if the team behind this movie just kept the classic look of brown belts, brown elbow and knee pads not too many people would cry about their design. As for the turtles themselves the ones I have issue with are Don and Raph. Donnie looks like he got way too much stuff going on and Raph looks like one of those caveman turtles from back in the day. As for action dude they only release two bloody trailers (one was just the first one with more shots of the turtles)and the action they did show all I heard from people they're ripping off The Amazing Spider-Man and people complained about the Donnie whipping Raph into that jeep clip.

The only point I will give you here(because you repeat the same point about action as filler) is that it could be like Transformers where the humans are center stage and the turtles are secondary characters in a movie entitled "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" I don't know because they haven't given out more detail since those two trailers and that brothers ad.

Lastly they got two months to put up or shut up about the action by releasing more trailers, clips and tv spots.

As for trending complaints about this movie.

You went from bashing people for not "backing their hate up" to saying "just let positive people be positive" to "if the movie makes money don't you think Paramount will green light a sequel?"

You're kind of all over the board on this one.

Speaking of the first Fantastic Four movie:

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=fantasticfour.htm

$100 million dollar budget with a $330,579,719 WW box office. The overseas market BARELY saved this piece of **** movie. Then they gave it a sequel and...

http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=fantasticfour2.htm

$130 million budget with a $289,047,763 WW box office. A very significant drop.

Now they're rebooting it 7-8 years later in a desperate attempt to keep the rights with them. Throwing **** up on the wall and hoping something decent sticks.

So you giving an example of even an AWFUL movie getting an even more AWFUL sequel in comparison to this movie hopefully AT LEAST being only mediocre and then it getting a sequel is...questionable.

That incarnation of the Shredder was a god damn alien. If you're talking about 2k3 Shredder's voice actor, voice actors are generally exempt from whitewashing; he's still being written as a Japanese character despite who is voicing him. If you still want to claim an American voice actor for an animated Japanese man counts as whitewashing I'm going to call you out on being a SJW.

Hey Volt - look, to be fair, I get that a lot of people find Fox, well, foxy. I don't expect every actress in a movie to be on my would-bang list; my issue is just that I don't think she's a very strong actress. I actually thought she was great in Jennifer's Body, as it was a role that seemed to play to her strengths.

2. Michael Bay. It's the internet fans who hate on Bay while standing in line to see whatever his latest release is.

Not necessarily - I don't like 99% of Bay's catalogue of work, and I actively go out of my way to avoid his films. I don't wish the man ill, I'm just not his target audience.

And it showed tons of action, tons of fights, the title characters (some which were CG characters) AS the main leads and main focus, and even some bit of camaraderie between the title characters. In only 'two bloody trailers'. Which TMNT has shown NONE of these.

By the way, some points you neglected:

A. No Martial Arts Fighting shown. This isn't the same as when I brought up 'not showing action'. When I talk action, I talk about Explosions, Car Chases, and the like (when they didn't even show THAT much). And for a film that has Michael Bay's name involved...even THAT is shocking. But Martial Arts fighting is a different point I bring up. Especially for a movie with the word Ninja in it. Now name One Martial Arts Film that showed Zero Martial Arts fighting in their trailers (let alone in any of the 3...2 teasers AND a TV spot...shown)? Just this one.

B. The lack of any hints of what kind of Personalities Raph, or Leo, or even Donnie will have in the film. And the extreme lack of ANY camaraderie and family bonds that those 4 turtles would share with each other. That should have been hinted at in the First Teaser! You shouldn't wait until the last 2 months to do this stuff...it's Piss Poor Marketing. Just like that stupid 'Paint/Home Depot/just showing colors' marketing that was discussed on another thread.

1. Megan Fox as April. Oh they cast her for her looks. Nevermind fan art has her looking like a dancer from Scores.

So...somehow this means that Megan Fox doesn't suck as an actress? :ohwell: If someone sucks, then they suck. And In My Opinion, she's Extremely Wooden and literally one of the worst actresses out there. She doesn't have any talent in the acting department. And that doesn't depend on 'fan art'. Get a good looking girl who CAN act, if that's the case. Simple enough. Because from Jennifer's Body, Jonah Hex, and such...I already know she can't act.

3. designs.. again outside the clothes would you really complain about their look if they wore their traditional get up of belts and pads? Nope.

Uh...Yep! When Raphael looks like a Hairless Gorilla who took Steroids, when Mikey has a face that only a Mother could Kill, and they are literally about 7 feet tall and will just pimp slap fools to their deaths with their giant bodies....then Yep, I would.

4. Racism... No not really the Shredder I'm sensing most fans love to talk about is the Shredder from the 2k3 era and that dude wasn't Asian himself.

My problem is I think William Ficthner is a crappy actor. And he was a crappy villain in The Lone Ranger. Plus, his outfit in the movie is so ridiculous...how the hell is he going to move with all that stuff? Let alone 'do Martial Arts' when he's got more crap than a Silverware Store? Might as well call him Swiss Army Man. It's Way Too Much.

The designs well aren't they real life turtles getting mutated in human form?

Have you seen 'real life turtles getting mutated into human form'?

No, you haven't. And you never will. Like we all know, it'd never happen in real life. Thus, if that's the case, how do you know that IF the Ninja Turtles were ever 'real', that they WOULDN"T look like they did in the 1990 movie?

People who keep saying "this is how they would look like in the real world" (and no, I've heard people say this reasoning. Not the whole 'well they'd get more realistic movements being done this way and...' No. I've literally heard countless times from countless people 'because this is how they'd look like in real life) is a Ridiculous Notion.

I don't mean to be rude, but it is. That's like going "this alien can't be designed like that, because that's not how they'd look in real life".

Maybe they'd look like the 2014 film, but maybe they'd look like they did in the 1990 movie.

My point? Simple. I think the designs from 1990 (their faces, lack of lips, lack of Gorilla Nostrils on Raph, lack of 'Derp' face on Mikey, and so on) look better. Much better.

Not because of 'nostalgia'. Not just because 'it was part of my childhood'. Not because 'you don't like change and you don't like something new' (which if that was the case...then by that logic I shouldn't like the 2003 cartoon since it made lots of changes. But I like the 80's cartoon and grew up with it. And the 2003 cartoon became my Favorite...even with an 'alien Shredder'. Which honestly? I never had a problem with because to me it worked For That Show! Plus, I still bought Shredder as a Badass on the 2k3 show and thought the outfit looked Miles Better than what this new film's Shredder looks like...and I'm sorry, I will never buy Fichtner as a badass. Once again...don't like the guy as an actor. But obviously, if I can be just fine with the 2k3 Shredder as well as the 2003 cartoon becoming my favorite...then I don't 'Mind Change').

Again, it's simple. I personally think that the looks and designs of the first two 90's Turtles films Look Better than these new ones. It's not as complicated as people make it out to be. You feel differently? Great! Doesn't mean I'll agree with it.

But where's their EVIDENCE that this movie's going to be so good that it's going to warrant sequels?
Give it a few months.. sweetcheeks :D

1. Megan Fox as April. Oh they cast her for her looks. Nevermind fan art has her looking like a dancer from Scores.

2. Michael Bay. It's the internet fans who hate on Bay while standing in line to see whatever his latest release is.

3. designs.. again outside the clothes would you really complain about their look if they wore their traditional get up of belts and pads? Nope.

4. Racism... No not really the Shredder I'm sensing most fans love to talk about is the Shredder from the 2k3 era and that dude wasn't Asian himself.

5. Action and who is the real lead are vaild.
Well put.. I 100% agree. And when people cry racism they just look so ignorant. I guess it's "racist" to look Japanese when you're...Japanese
Few things opinions are not facts don't get it twisted. 1.Fan art simple Google search. 2. Michael Bay isn't even directing the movie so yeah going to destroy your other point on Transformers you do know Steven Spielberg produce the movies? 3.Was Shredder in the 2k3 series Asian yes or no? Don't give me well the robot body was Japanese. 4. Again tisk tisk opinion again. I'll give you credit despite not bringing anything to help you in this debate you still try to convince me of your opinion is right. Good night.

That's the funny thing.. people pass their opinions off as facts.. I used to get all bent but not anymore. I've realized that it is way more fun to like something than to hate it. Bay is one of six producers.. Yes platinum Dunes is working on this. and Mednick productions.. and Gama entertainment lol. People just love to act like it's all Bay so they can continue repeating the same stupid internet trend phrases of boom boom and explosions
I also find it amusing that the ones that claim will never see this continue to ask for more.. more fight shots, more footage of the turtles, more more more  but yet have no interest in seeing the film at all? I find that hard to believe but it is what it is. It's their decision.

Michael Bay. It's the internet fans who hate on Bay while standing in line to see whatever his latest release is.

 this is so true.. it's like the more people rage online the better his films do lol. Michael Bay is one of the most successful directors in the world right now. Please. I suspect it will be the same case with TMNT. The people screaming boycott and childhood rape will have little impact on this films success. Almost every film coming up has it's detractors.. Uhh.. I'm sick of speculating, August hurry up so we can enjoy this already :D

If they are good for them..Some people have gone loco with blind hate for the flick and they can't back it up.

I'd argue the reverse is also true, but y'know what? I don't see the point in complaining about that. It just adds to the hostility here. People have their opinions and they're entitled to express them. The only reason so much fighting breaks out here is that some posters get rude and combative about others' opinions, like they're looking for an argument. Ahem.

As for trending complaints about this movie.

1. Megan Fox as April. Oh they cast her for her looks. Nevermind fan art has her looking like a dancer from Scores.

2. Michael Bay. It's the internet fans who hate on Bay while standing in line to see whatever his latest release is.

4. Racism... No not really the Shredder I'm sensing most fans love to talk about is the Shredder from the 2k3 era and that dude wasn't Asian himself.

1. I think this is a perfectly fair complaint - I want actors cast for their ability, not solely for their looks. There were reports saying they had met with several very capable, appropriate choices for the role (Anna Kendrick among them, sigh...), and they went with what was easily the weakest option, talent-wise. That raises a lot of valid questions about the creative decisions they're making and what those will mean for the final product.

2. What is this claim based on? Can you back that up? Personally, I can count the number of Michael Bay movies I've seen on one hand, and the last one I saw (Transformers in 2007) was so bad that I've avoided his movies ever since.

3. Yes. I hate the clothes/accessories, but I hate the overall "look"/physiology of the Turtles just as much. I don't like their height, their extremely muscular body types, their facial features, their high shells, or their plastron abs. I think they're terrible designs on every level.

4. The 2K3 Shredder was an alien, but he was also Japanese. He took on the identity of Oroku Saki and lived his public life for hundreds of years as a Japanese man. He was essentially an immigrant to Japan, who adopted the culture and lived that way far longer than any natural human lifespan. He wasn't born Japanese, no, but it was a part of his identity.

Also: he was not the only Shredder in that series, nor was he the first. The original Shredder, the real Oroku Saki, was a Japanese man from the feudal era. The third Shredder, Karai, was a Japanese woman. Japanese heritage played a key role in every version of the character.

Give it a few months.. sweetcheeks :D

He asked for evidence. That's not evidence; that's hopefulness. Which is fine, but all anyone really has right now is speculation, so maybe let's all not get overly-confident and/or rude about it, hey?

Yes, they would. Because the biggest outcry have been The Faces. And their 7 foot tall sizes. The tallest turtle is 6'5" that not 7' tall stop over exaggerating to make a point.

That your opinion i have heard people hating on the trailer. And its funny you like a crotch grabbing raccoon But god forbid they put something like that in turtles it would automatically make it too campy. SMH

SO pretty much The whole Brother hood trailer doesn't tell you anything about them being a family its not like they didn't spell it out for you lol. "Live Fight Die, as BROTHER, remember nothing is as strong as FAMILY" Nope that not just throwing it at your head, forget the screen writers and Eastman say it will be a strong aspect of the movie Nope just ignore that lol. As for raph and Mikeys personality i think its be shown pretty well with what we have seen

So...somehow this means that Megan Fox doesn't suck as an actress? :ohwell: If someone sucks, then they suck. I dont see how anyone can see Gorilla in the new turtles But Meh Opinions Opinions. Again Raph and leo 6' mikey 5'9", and donnie(the tallest) 6'5" IM six 6'2" that not tall unless your 5'4"

My problem is I think William Ficthner is a crappy actor. And he was a crappy villain in The Lone Ranger. My complaints with the casting of Megan Fox at the time was how she's been used in any film she's ever been in. I felt it would be a disservice to the character of April. Then there's the other actresses who were passed over that I felt fit the character better. (Anna Kendrick, Elizabeth Olsen, and another I can't recall off the top of my head). I will say she was much more likable in This is 40 despite playing a very similar character to everything she's ever done.

We all know that Michael Bay isn't directing, but Liebesman has come out and said that Bay has been heavily involved with the production of the film. As for Spielberg and Transformers, we have him to blame for the focus on the human characters instead of the titular characters.

I would certainly have less issue with the character designs if they were toned way down. They're ridiculously over the top. I still have issue seeing all 4 of them fitting in the van when Raph's shell as large as the cab of the Humvee.

It's certainly hard to argue with being okay with the 2k3 reveal of Ch'rell and not with the Eric Sachs for the film. It's still a decision that bugs the he'll out of me. It's like the powered armor Silver Samurai leaving a bad taste in my mouth after the Wolverine.

RamboRaph, I have a question for you. Not one to flame an argument, I just want to know? If, in the next trailer, they show martial arts, if they show the turtles together, as brothers, and/or interacting together, will you be satisfied?

If we don't see either of those qualities in this next trailer, I'm going to start getting a little suspicious about negative peoples doubts. However, I'm staying confident that they'll show something to this regard in the next trailer.

He asked for evidence. That's not evidence; that's hopefulness. Which is fine, but all anyone really has right now is speculation, so maybe let's all not get overly-confident and/or rude about it, hey?

But that's the thing. There is no evidence.

There's no evidence this movie will do well, it's all based on assumptions, speculation, and hope. And there's no evidence this movie will do horrible, it's all based on assumptions, speculation, and hope.

We can't know either way, until we get facts. And the only fact there will be is the end result of the movie. We can't know the facts until the movie is out. We can't know for sure if this movie will fail. That goes for both sides.

Even though I'm trying to stay positive about this movie, I don't want to pick sides here, but I think Puddinpop was responding in the same tone and type of manner as TrickOrTreater. I think it's one-sided if your only accusing Puddinpop of being 'overly-confident and/or rude'. Same goes, in this case, for someone only blaming TrickOrTreator for the same behavior.

I was replying to one person directly, but it wasn't aimed at just that person, if that makes sense? Just to a general trend I've noticed - the "This movie's going to make ALL/NONE OF the money, that's a fact, wait and see! :D" kind of comments are pretty obnoxious and ridiculous. Because you're right - there is no way to know that for sure yet.

It's totally fair to speculate, or to have your own predictions/hopes or ideas of how it'll play out. And to be fair, there is some aspect of "evidence" to this, even if it's unproven in this case specifically - people can analyze trends, make comparisons, get in-depth with box office statistics, etc. There's already evidence that August releases perform at a much lower level than June/July movies, so there is some evidence that suggests how high this movie can potentially reach - even though there could always be some surprises.

I've got my own predictions, but I'm not trying to say I'll be right, necessarily. I just think that folks getting too "fanboyish" or arrogant about their personal hopes/predictions and trying to pass them off as a fact or a foregone conclusion tends to make things get more heated and hostile than they should. None of us know how this is going to pan out for sure, so let's just keep things in perspective.

RamboRaph, I have a question for you. Not one to flame an argument, I just want to know? If, in the next trailer, they show martial arts, if they show the turtles together, as brothers, and/or interacting together, will you be satisfied?

You misunderstood me. I've already given up on the film. That's why I voted 'never seeing the film' on another thread. So no, I won't be seeing the next trailer.

The only reason I responded is because someone was spouting off that it was just 'blind hate'. And I was setting the record straight that for a lot of folks, it wasn't just 'blind hate from the very start of production'.

If you look looooong ago in my posts, you'll see that when I first heard about the film, I was actually excited for it! Because I like a lot of Michael Bay productions (The Island, Bad Boys 1 & 2, The Rock). And I actually loved the director's Darkness Falls and Battle: Los Angeles movies. So, those who said 'well, you hated it from the beginning' don't know what they are talking about. It's right here on the forums...waaaay back, mind you. But it's still on here.

Now, if the teasers had done their job and were great...if the marketing did its' job and said 'yep, it's a must see'...if the designs were actually Cool to me in order to go 'Now that is Awesome'...if the casting actually had made me excited instead of dread (and yes samxsteal, I've seen Fichtner in many films and I never cared for him in any of them. Still don't like the guy)...if the makers just 'spoon-fed me' as some people would say it, and just tell us 'hey, the Turtles ARE the stars of the movie. Don't worry'....then I'd give it a chance.

I've seen enough Red Flags to build a bridge. And I'm sorry, but there is no reason for me to give this a chance.

'then why are you on here?' Because certain people tell me not to, and I'm incredibly stubborn and incredibly opinionated. Pretty much it.

... I just realised that Volt was referring to Shredder being Ch'rell... for some reason I thought he was talking about the ethnicity of his robot suit. DERP.

We all know that Michael Bay isn't directing, but Liebesman has come out and said that Bay has been heavily involved with the production of the film. As for Spielberg and Transformers, we have him to blame for the focus on the human characters instead of the titular characters.

I agree with a lot of this - I feel that the character of April deserves more than to be just eye candy. There are plenty of actresses out there who are hot and who have a better acting range than Megan Fox. I'm not saying that I've never gone to see a movie just to perve on one of the actors they've cast - hell, Rose McGowan being in Conan was the only reason I saw the damn thing - but I feel that to give a Turtles film that treatment is, again, doing the character of April a disservice.

For the sake of comparing apples with apples and oranges with oranges, I look at it this way:

1. Liebesman has directed 5 features besides Turtles, only one of which I've watched. Of that one, I didn't enjoy it. The remainder of his films, I have zero interest in.
2. Applebaum, Nemec and Daugherty haven't written anything that I've enjoyed.
3. Of the 24 films that Bay has produced (which are currently out), I've watched 9. Of those, I've enjoyed 2.
4. Of the 9 other producers and executive producers associated with this project, the only production work in their catalogue (specifically, Denis L Stewart) which I've enjoyed that isn't also on Bay's production list is Friday the 13th: A New Beginning and The Mask.

Now I'm not saying that the powers that be should've come to my house and asked my opinion/approval on every person they decided to attach to this project. I'm just saying that there's a precedent for me not really being into the most of the movies that any of these people are attached to, and once again, were it not a Turtles film, I wouldn't be giving the film a second thought.

1. Liebesman has directed 5 features besides Turtles, only one of which I've watched. Of that one, I didn't enjoy it. The remainder of his films, I have zero interest in.
2. Applebaum, Nemec and Daugherty haven't written anything that I've enjoyed.

My view is very similar to yours. I've yet to watch a Liebesman directed film, Battle: Los Angeles was probably the only film he has directed that gained my interest, until I saw the second trailer and reviews, to which I never bothered to go out of my way.

It surprises me that Liebesman was given such a loved property to be responsible for with such a limited background and success, I would like to know what it is he did to get the job.

As for Michael Bay, I may have liked some of his films for their action back in the day (Armageddon, The Rock etc.), but over time, as I've grown up, I've become more aware of my issues regarding his method to tell a story, or lack thereof. When Transformers came along, it had a lot of hype around it and initially did very well due to reigniting interest for a loved property, the buzz was highly positive, but I can't see the same love for TMNT, despite also being a loved childhood property. The execution for this project has not been as well handled in my opinion, but the name of the property should be enough to generate enough money to cover the budget at the box office.

I'm more surprised that he's basically been welcomed with open arms. Considering his track record.

As far as how he got the job, he's in the Platinum Dunes wheelhouse. They threw it to whoever would take it.

Ahem.

He asked for evidence. That's not evidence; that's hopefulness. Which is fine, but all anyone really has right now is speculation, so maybe let's all not get overly-confident and/or rude about it, hey?

I'd argue the reverse is also true, but y'know what? I don't see the point in complaining about that. It just adds to the hostility here. People have their opinions and they're entitled to express them. The only reason so much fighting breaks out here is that some posters get rude and combative about others' opinions, like they're looking for an argument. Ahem. Ya know you're right.. There's no point in complaining about a LOT of the crap that gets brought up, but don't act like there isn't plenty of blame to go around. It's just as ridiculous for some to sit here and point the finger at one side, and there are plenty of posters being overly pessimistic and rude but yet you have an issue with people being "overly confident"? This stupid back and forth civil war is so obstinately juvenile it's exhausting. People keep demanding the same crap for more fight footage and more "proof" and more "explanation" even before release every single day and then a second later claim that they will never see it in the first place so what is the point of that besides coming here and just telling others that what they think or predict is absolute rubbish. This is not what movies are made for.. people fighting back and forth speculating to the point of attacking people they don't even know. They are made for people to enjoy them, leave their problems at the door, shut their brains off and relax. But instead it's nothing but an egotistical opinion pushing contest that goes on for months and months. Nothing will change.. unfortunately

And I'll be as overly confident as I so do please bud :D And im not being "rude" I just used his own word. But I understand that you guys all stick together like a junior high school click.. I wont be "rude" to Trick anymore ok? I apologize. Heck look as Elysium fast moving exo suits I have no problem with mecha suits in general. It has nothing to do with them moving well on screen. It's the idiocy of what they design the suits to do. A mecha suit like the Shredder with ridiculous amount of blades is a dumb weapon choice for a mecha suit. Mecha-Rhino in ASM2 had missiles and firepower out the wazoo, but still charges into battle like a think just because he has to do something similar to what his comic counterpart. Who's going to design a suit like that just to have the wearer charge into battle for melee?

Iron Man and the subsequent suits designed like it make sense from a design perspective.

Aleksei Sytsevich (Russian: Алексей Михайлович Sytsevich) was just another thug in the Russian Mafia, grasping at dreams of easy money, and headed for a short brutal life. Seduced by promises of wealth and power, Aleksei underwent a life-threatening series of chemical and radiation treatments throughout several months to transform him into an agent with superhuman strength for a collective of professional spies. In part, this was to support his family.

Aleksei's powerful armor, permanently bonded to his form, was modeled after the hide of a rhinoceros.

Except the Mecha-Rhino we got in ASM2 wasn't grounded at all in real world design. If it was grounded in anything, it was stupidity. The idea that outfitting a mecha suit with all the firepower that Mecha-Rhino had in the film just so he can charge at his opponent like a battering ram is insulting to the viewer's intelligence, IMO. I think this is especially true when you consider everything else Oscorp was building that will lead to the Sinister Six film. That's another thing that bothers me about the ASM films.

Anyways, I'll tie this discussion back into my feelings about the stupidity of Mecha-Shredder in this film. The Shredder design completely undermines your belief that the Turtle designs are the way they are for the film because it's "realistic" and "grounded". It's not in the least. Why spend all that time and money on a Mecha-Shredder with retractable blades that look like the slim pit from SOTO and not something that would be far more streamlined and efficient. Even if Sachs is an Utrom, that's a sad excuse for an exo-suit given how far and away more advanced Utrom technology is.

LOL I see you're still on the convince others mission.. Again you offer no proof to back up your opinion of THIS movie. I ask you how many times now? And how many times you and your friends just offer zip, nada bupkis. You asked about how do I or whomever know this movie is going to get a sequel.

Not necessarily - I don't like 99% of Bay's catalogue of work, and I actively go out of my way to avoid his films. I don't wish the man ill, I'm just not his target audience.

Well... I would, because the faces were a big shock to me. Time will tell whether it's a shock I can get over.

I always thought he was?

Seriously, not trying to start something - just for my part, I wanted to explain the reasons behind some of my beefs. No disrespect intended. :)

Derp... I just realised you were talking about Ch'rell, not the robot body's ethnic appearance - sorry, I misunderstood what you said!

And to be fair, one of the writers has said that Bay has influenced the project... just playing Devil's Advocate, not trying to make you angry. :)

1. It seems you blew past the point.. Again those who want to use Megan Fox as strike against the flick lose here considering the fact that fan art has over sexualize April. As for Megan Fox excuse me what top-tier actress did the past four movies had in the role of April O'Neil?
2. Michael Bay..To me is just another crutch that the anti movie folks have. Like I told Trick there Steven Spielberg produce the Transformers movies so are you turn off by Spielberg movies by applying your logic?

3. Again those screaming about white shredder.. Again the Shredder most fans get hyped over wasn't Asian he was an alien warlord don't give me well his reboot body was Japanese and he sounded Japanese the creature who took on the role as the shredder wasn't Japanese. Again if you haven't notice in comic books and comic book movies races of characters have changed Perry White, Nick Fury and even Harvey Dent in Batman and Batman Returns.

God this makes no sense at all.

are you turn off by Spielberg movies by applying your logic?

No. Because Steven Spielberg is a good filmmaker.

Again if you haven't notice in comic books and comic book movies races of characters have changed Perry White, Nick Fury and even Harvey Dent in Batman and Batman Returns.

Changing white characters to characters of a different race is considerably less bad than changing a traditionally non-white character to a white character.

Even a cactus could understand this.

LOL I gotta give you credit..You're working so hard to convince others. Again let's play pick Treat apart

1. Whine about Michael Bay producing.. You hate Transformers but guess who produce those movies you hate. Steven Spielberg.

2. Perry White has been white since 1940 Two face has been white since 1942 and Billy Dee Williams would had played the role in Batman Forever, Nick Fury has been white since 1963 and Johnny Storm been white since 1961. The turtles universe have already set precedent when Shredder went from Japanese to alien and to a hybrid alien computer virus. Now you're grasping at straws here.

I'll give you credit the other anti-movie folks usually give up this nonsense after a few go arounds but you keep pushing ahead with your opinions as facts meme. Good night.

Apparently it upsets people when you mention that this film will most likely get a sequel bc some cant imagine going through this aaaaall over again
I think there is a really good chance that there will be. They are definitely planning on it and this movie will probably make enough money to warrant one. It's an exciting time to be a TMNT fan esp with this new Live action film coming out, Lets enjoy it to the fullest and not let anybody put a damper on the excitement

You guys are so insecure about some other people not liking what you like.

Having to convince yourselves over and over again that our opinions don't matter and that you WILL love the movie no matter what we say or no matter how it turns out.

It's really, really sad that you can't just ignore us. Some kind of pathological need to make sure everybody thinks exactly as you do when I and many others have said countless times we really don't give a crap if you want to love it no matter what.

Remember that, if you can. We don't care.

You guys are so insecure about some other people not liking what you like.I assure you I am not insecure with your feelings regarding this film.. that is absurd. That's like saying that you're envious or jealous that you aren't getting the film you want and we are. That you can't experience the excitement that some of us feel so you try to put a damper on it everyday by spamming the same ridiculing comments making fun of everything that gets released. Is that true? or equally as absurd? You pick.

Having to convince yourselves over and over again that our opinions don't matter and that you WILL love the movie no matter what we say or no matter how it turns out. What do you mean convince? Are you that self absorbed to think that your opinions "of this film being crap" are factual so that we all must be full of **** and like this film just to spite you? am I misunderstanding you? What's worse, you repeating how bad this is gonna be or me repeating how good it's gonna be? Who said that your opinions don't matter? of course they do.. but lets not pretend that most of the time it isn't just an honest opinion.. people giving an "opinion" give it once or twice and move on.. some of you say the same stupid phrases over and over and over and you do it to piss people off.

It's really, really sad that you can't just ignore us. Some kind of pathological need to make sure everybody thinks exactly as you do when I and many others have said countless times we really don't give a crap if you want to love it no matter what.

Well the same could be said for some of you. In fact .. you know what I DO remember Tricksandtreats? you telling me many times that you put me on the ignore list.. but yet you haven't... why not? Again with this egotistical observation that just bc you think this film is crap that it must be a "FACT" therefore we will like it no matter what. Will you people (both of you) stop making this in to a comparison argument between Rhino (I don't even know who the **** that is and I don't care) and Shredder?! Similar discussions has happened before and it drags on endlessly with zero point, I don't want to have to scroll through 10 pages of that too read something relevant again!

About the trailer: It's a TV-spot, so can't say I would even expect much new footage, tho 3 seconds was a little less then I hoped for... Shredders design is too messy and "mecha" for my taste, but random messiness seems to be the key-word for all the designs here. I really, really hope the full trailer will bring something new on the table. I know a lot of people wish to see some martial arts - and I do to - but what I'm especially hoping we'll see is the turtles talking and interacting. That all of their personalities and relationships is intact is important to me. And hearing Leo's voice is definitively on top of my want-list, I'm nervous as to if Knoxville will sound the part...

To the people it may concern, I respect all various feeling towards this movie and you have every right to express those feelings, that's what this forum is for. But can we try to keep sarcasm and the more pointless bickering to a minimum? Related, is there perhaps a way to get the "stoked" and "leery" threads back? It'd be nice having places where one could hang out - or jump back and forth for that matter - and avoid the worst of the pointless arguing over the same old pointless things again and again. There's many fun discussions to be had, but it's so hard when every thread turns in to almost-trolling and turd-flinging and I start questioning why I am on this forum in the first place...

You're really starting to piss me off.

Even when the Shredder wasn't human, he was still written as a Japanese character. HE WAS STILL OROKU SAKI. I won't stand for him suddenly being whitewashed, especially not in 20 freakin' 14. There's no excuse for it. It's a big part of the reason why I won't watch it -- if they're going to Americanize him, an important character in the turtles universe, how do I know they're going to handle anything else with their heads removed from their asses?

Yeah, it definitely makes sense. And I agree, there's evidence of how well a certain movie did on a certain date in a certain month, and we can make a lot of accurate assumptions. However, it's these 'claims' that get to me. This movie WILL make boat loads of money. This movie WILL not make any money at all. I definitely agree with everything you said.

No, I know you've given up on the film, and you really don't have any appeal to watch it. I get that. But I'm wondering if they would have martial arts in this film, or if they did have this family element, could you rest easier knowing that?

I know that you still won't see the film, but would you be happier about this movie if they did have martial arts and the brotherly aspects? Because I know the absence of those in the trailer really bother you (which, again, is totally fine. I really want those to be in the film too.)

Again (this is, like

Honestly, yes. It would make me happier. It's why I love the Turtles and for me, makes them the Ninja Turtles.

Solid, well done Martial Arts action, and brotherly aspects/dynamics that are either relatable or fun to watch (for example, I love & enjoy the Mikey & Raph brotherhood/relationship as well as the back & forth that they constantly had/have in both the 2003 cartoon and eventthe 2012 cartoon).

To me, those are two of the most important aspects of the Ninja Turtles. The 4 Turtles relationship/bond/rapport with each other, mixed in with great Martial Arts sequences. The lack of any of these throughout countless marketing is a huge Red Flag.

None of that has been shown so far, and in my opinion at least 'Hints' of this should have been shown in the first teaser. Let alone there have been 2 teasers and at least 2 or 3 TV spots, and still none of that have been shown.

That was some of the problems I had with the 2007 CGI movie (not initially, but from repeat viewings). If you watch it again, there wasn't nearly enough martial arts action for my liking, and the brotherly aspects were lacking as well (other than the Raph & Leo stuff. But even that had an unsatisfying finale to it. Just a quick 'we need you, need you too' in the span of 3 seconds...and then to continue with the fight against the monsters. For me, one more scene of just Raph & Leo talking about what had happened on the rooftop & fully making amends with each other would have been more fulfilling/satisfying). Like people have said in the past, Don & Mikey seemed like they were barely in that one...and neither of them barely had much of any actual talk/interactions between either Leo or Raph.

However, back on the same weekend in 2009 G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra still easily topped the box office while most females went to see Julie & Julia. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=2609&p=.htm

That sounds about right. The last of those films opened in July 2012 and it came in 4th place and the franchise is experiencing some fatigue.

Step Up Revolution, Summit’s $33 million sequel, finished the weekend in fourth place with $11.8 million — by far the lowest for a Step Up movie. Diminishing returns were expected, though. The original Step Up, which starred Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan, opened with $20.7 million and earned $65.3 million in 2006. Sequel Step Up 2 The Streets debuted with $18.9 million and found $58 million total in 2008. Step Up 3-D opened with $15.8 million and grossed $42.4 million in 2010. All three predecessors were produced by Touchstone Pictures and distributed by Disney. The franchise has now changed hands to Summit.

That's how I see it in America and I bet Guardians of the Galaxy will be at no 1 for a 2nd week (unless Planes: Fire and Rescue or The Inbetweeners Movie 2 beat it) here in the UK .

Edge of Tomorrow came out a week early and was up against Maleficent here in the UK which was a bad move because it's no 3 in the UK box office chart with X-Men no 2 and Maleficent at no 1.

Guardians of the Galaxy will be #1 for the week of August 1st, But once TMNT comes out on August 8, It will be knocked down to 2nd because of TMNT being such a very well known property.

Yeah I no but UK don't get TMNT till October thats why I said that GOG will possibly be at no 1 for a 2nd week in UK.

But is this going to be a well-known movie? I've barely seen any promotion for it.

Well don't forget people watch the Nick show, read IDW comic books, buy toys ect. On Twitter I see so many people only finding out about the new movie (some are excited) every day.

I have a feeling once the main trailer comes out and Paramount finishes with promoting Transformers, promotion for TMNT will exploded and get something new almost every day.

Adobe Predicts Summer 2014's Box-Office Losers

The tech company -- boasting a 100 percent success rate for its fall 2013 box-office predictions -- forecasts financial losses for Tom Cruise's "Edge of Tomorrow" and Dwayne Johnson's "Hercules."

Adobe says its ADI boasts a 100 percent accuracy level based on nine movies it made predictions about last November, when it said Ender's Game, Delivery Man and 47 Ronin would not meet the threshold.

Edge of Tomorrow, opening wide in the U.S. on Friday, will flop, as will Hercules and The Expendables 3, according to Adobe, a technology company best known for software like Photoshop and Acrobat.

ADI predicts The Fault in our Stars, Guardians of the Galaxy, Transformers 4, The Purge 2 and How to Train Your Dragon 2 "will be the season's blockbuster hits."

Adobe does not mention TMNT but it is predicting success for GotG, so that's probably not in TMNT's favor.

As it's been previously mentioned, many are predicting that Guardians of the Galaxy to open well during its debut weekend, but it will most likely take a big second weekend drop like most superhero films do. Even though X-Men: Days of Future Past had excellent word-of-mouth, it could not retain the No. 1 spot since Maleficent debuted the following weekend.

Really dude? LOL you kids are so fun to play with you huff and puff about what's wrong with this movie and when pressed your reasons sound ridiculous. Heck when I smashed Darksnovia on his own Youtube channel he had the common decency to admit the points he made were wrong. You on the other hand rather stay in that angry internet fan bubble.

BoxOffice.com has already made predictions for the weekend of August 1.

http://www.boxoffice.com/featured_stories/2014-06-long-range-forecast-guardians-of-the-galaxy

So we should be seeing some Box Office predictions for TMNT next week.

TMNT predicted to get $37 million at opening weekend in the US.

Producer Michael Bay and Paramount will try to reboot another franchise when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles opens on August 8th. BoxOffice takes a closer look at the commercial viability of TMNT in our Long Range Forecast.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
(Paramount)

PROS:

- The popular Nickelodeon show has helped the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stay relevant to a new generation of fans.
- The TMNT franchise is still responsible for plenty of toy sales.
- The nostalgia factor will lead to curiosity on the part of a lot of twenty/thirtysomethings.
- Even though Michael Bay didn't direct the film, it still feels like he could have. Bay's directorial style may not go over well with critics, but paying audiences eat it up.

CONS:

- A lot of fans have reacted negatively to the first trailer. In fact, one fan went so far as to change the way the turtles looked in the movie.
- The casting of Megan Fox won't really help bring in female moviegoers.
- If it overperforms, Guardians of the Galaxy could easily overshadow TMNT.

I tend to not go by predictions as most end up being wrong anyway as some movies predicted to do well like Edge of Tomorrow and Transcendance, ends up being a flop at the box office. I do think TMNT will make more though. I also think if this prediction was done after the 4th trailer it might be a bit different.

We'll see what happens. Boxoffice.com predicted that Maleficent would open with $61 million, but they were off by $8.4 million.

http://www.boxoffice.com/featured_stories/2014-04-long-range-forecast-maleficent

Disney was also expecting an opening around $60 million and they were very pleased with an opening around $70 million.

http://insidemovies.ew.com/2014/06/01/box-office-report-maleficent/

Box Office Mojo and Entertainment Weekly were predicting $55 million and $58 million openings, but they were a little off as well.

What happened with frozen was insane and I have 2 little girls so if I hear let it go one more time I might lose it. But I think everyone is seriously underestimating this movies potential to make a ton of money. When I saw the trailer in the theater there was a kid behind going nuts over Seeing Leo on screen. If anyone can drive up a box office it's kids. And seeing how tmnt is one of the highest selling toys going I think it's got potential to be huge.

Absolutely not gonna happen. The highest-ever August opening weekend was $69 million (http:// http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/weekends/month/?mo=08&p=.htm), and no August movie has made more than $292 million domestic (http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/weekends/month/?mo=08&sort=gross&order=DESC&p=.htm) - and that was The Sixth Sense, a surprise runaway hit and the exception to the rule. Only four August movies have ever made more than $200 million domestic, and only one of them was in the last ten years.

You have no idea just how big this thing really is. The movie is just the beginning. I just got back from a week long trip at Disney World, and I went with my two little cousins, 8 and 10. They watched Frozen on DVD in the van from W.P.B. to Orlando. They watched it 24/7 on the DVD in the hotel room. Then, we stood in line for 3 !@#$%^&* hours just so they can get a damn picture with Elsa and Ana. And every single night at Magic Kingdom, they would play Let it Go, and the entire freaking crowd would start to sing it. It's just so amazing how this movie is a freaking mega block buster, while other similar movies are lucky to get half of what it makes. It's just amazing. And the numbers it's doing in Japan alone? Wow!

Well, this has been the year that Spider-Man has been beaten by an April release, and an X-Men movie. I'm not going to assume anything right now. There are even projections of GOTG making 100 million in it's first weekend.

Trust me, it wasn't by choice with me. The kids finally dragged me to sit down and watch it. I can see the appeal with it. It's not the typical damsel in distress and the prince is there to save the day. It's mostly about the bond between two sisters. But, I still can't believe this thing made the mega money that it did. Over 400 million in the Domestic BO, and fifth highest WW. Not bad for a cartoon, not bad.

This is a bit off topic but..

I have to say that Frozen was a very disappointing movie for me. I don't really see how people could be so hyped up about it. It was very rushed, the sister aspect only took up like 20 % of the film, and I don't see how it represents females in a good light. It seemed like the male characters were the only well rounded ones in the movie. I don't know maybe my expectation were to high, but that's just my opinion.

what if it's good?

i mean, don't judge a book by its cover, don't knock it til you've tried it and all those cliches, heh.

No. It's not that good. It's just different to the usual. It has two princess sisters, the oldest one is Elsa, and the youngest one if Ana, by quite a few years. It kind of mirrors how sisters, when younger, are best friends, and as time goes, the oldest one starts to isolate herself from the younger sister, and the younger sister doesn't understand why. And I like how it shows there is more than just prince charming when it comes to true loves kiss.

It's actual kind of surprising how low the numbers actually need to be to greenlight a sequel. I've seen some that I thought were sure to lose out, but get a sequel while others I thought did well and might warrant a sequel don't get one.

I'm still bummed A-Team didn't make enough to warrant a sequel. I actually liked the cast.

Even box office success isn't a guarantee of a sequel, necessarily - in some cases if a movie makes money but gets hugely negative critical and audience reaction, the bean-counters may consider a sequel too much of a risk. (And of course, plenty of movies that under-performed have gotten sequels based on good reviews/response and developing a cult following.)

Where I live, Turtles have a lot of fans in the adult segment who fondly remember 80-s cartoon. Thing is, those people more often then not, watch think of Turtles through nostalgic goggles, so any new version is critisized for being unlike their favorite cratoon from childhood.
Considering how far Bay's movie removed from 80-s cartooon as far as designs go...I am not really sure if this movie will be succesfull or not. But so far opinion of the people who I personally know is mostly negative. Their arguments are pretty much the same, which were used on this forum.

Based on her recent interviews, I guess we can surmise that Mikey will be the one to take that bullet then. ;)

I think it's going to be Raph. We've seen pictures of Megan hugging onto the guy playing Raph, and it was rather very close.
