That was crazy good, the sad thing is we won't get anything even close to this in the movie.
Though annoying music, overuse of slow-mo and mismatched soundefects kinda took me out...

What's funny is that in this era of YouTube, there is almost no excuse not being able to find talented individuals who can excel in martial arts as a TMNT film would demand, as this clip proves. AND who would gladly accept a fraction of the income most "big time" performance actors or Hollywood actors demand. But...

But as usual **sigh**, Bay and the staff believes that having 'roided big ol' Turtles (with Raph and Leo), superfluous "cool" apparel, and many, many explosions are all what the public wants.

Who knows, maybe the production staff did find a somewhat decent team of martial arts stunt actors, but it doesn't seem to be a big priority if these Turtles are going to be so huge and hulkish (as we fear). I mean, it almost makes learning martial arts obsolete in a way, if they are so big/strong that they can easily swat these Foot Soldiers like flies.

Hopefully it'll put your mind at ease, it certainly did for me:

...this is the BIG 3 - a nickname this trio has earned over the past several years for dominating the Martial Arts Tricking scene - TWO of them are listed as stunt doubles for the Turtles:

- Daniel Graham, and Jeremy Marinas

the great thing to me about the CGI Turles is that one can be used for the acting, emoting, voice...but a talented martial artist can be brought in for the movesets (acrobatics, hand to hand combat, weapon use, etc.)

Seriously Some one else gets it Ive posted on several occasions all of the great stunt men and women involved posting videos and stunt demos and they do pretty much the EXACT same style and form,

I wasn't feeling it. Dude with the nunchucks swinging at whole lotta nothin'.I thought it technique was quite good(im a "chucker") and very realistic in his application and use of his nunchaku

Very nicely done. I'm seeing a few complaints on here, but c'mon, for a YouTube video? Pretty damn sweet.

As someone else noted, I liked that they put in a bit of their representative turtle's personality into it.

The major thing is, would these guys be able to move in the turtles motion capture suits as they do here (going by what we see from the behind the scenes) no not really, has any of these guys done any suit acting at all

Sure, the video is great, but can they replicate that while wearing the turtle suits

and while I do love the fight scenes, I think the fight scene between Gokai Red and Gavan Bootleg from Gokaiger vs Gavan would work a bit better with the inclusion of the giant motion capture suits

The suits, absolutely no reason they couldn't with a Mo-Cap suit.

When you put a giant shell on someone's back and a tight skinsuit there's no way they can move like this alsothe best stuntman in the world can't make a movie good if the director is crap. I can give you a milion expamples but you wouldn't listen.

The whole point of mo cap is to be free moving Spandex isn't restrictive now the Shell is a different thing but we haven't seen the stunt actors they might have smaller shells

Ive heard that they are almost foam like inside and that the skin is the important material. The old ones had Fiberglass shells and sometimes thick rubber so id think it would be more difficult to do flips in the old ones no? I also saw a few doubles on set in Mo-cap suits without shells. Either they were other mutants or they were turtle doubles. But I think flips aside, that we will see some good fight scenes.

chrisdude
04-26-2014, 08:10 AM
1. We haven't seen set pictures or videos of fight scenes, so why are we assuming what the stunt actors would wear in those scenes?

2. Why the heck would you think they wouldn't take off the shells if they needed to? Do think think they can't record motion without wearing the shell? The shell is probably there for spacing and contact between people and objects. Surely, they can record some flips or spins without the prop, and add the shell later.

Other than the shell, the suit is just spandex. They should be completely uninhibited.

C'mon.

Nunchaku seriously don't seem like they'd be effective against long-range weapons, except to maybe catch them on the chain... what can you do with a nunchaku in a fight against a bo? Or a katana? Or even a sai?

you'd be surprised,

So come cops can become masters of certain weapons(mastery) and there is a cop who specializes in Nunchaku, it, there was a video I havent been able to find again about a "ninjustu master" who specializes in nunchaku he has so much control he might as well be swinging a sword and it wielded correctly can have more then enough reach to be on par with a katana. In the video they test his aim and he hits an 100 mph base ball with enough force of a person swinging a bat

Good stunt actors, but. Although many, me included are a bit worried the fights are going to be brutes smashing down soldiers. I'm also a bit hesitant that thing might be too flashy. It's fine to have some performance arts in the fight choreography, but too much flips, spins and flashy unnecessary moves can just as we'll be bad. The fight have to look real to an extent, and too much "Wuxia" won't look too good.

I have to agree with you. And before others post 'but look at the guys who are working on this film' (like the TMNT Stunts and Martial Arts Thread), just because they have them does not mean they'll be used right, let alone be used that well at all. I'll give an example.

Donnie Yen. Fantastic Martial Artist. But then when they put him in Hollywood flicks like Highlander End Game and Blade 2, he was either underutilized or not used well at all.

But...when you give a guy like that full control? You get stuff like one of the best fights ever:

Now, if you made a movie where Raphael had a fight scene like Donnie Yen has in this movie? Then I'd be there opening day.

If they have bulletproof skin, then what would make them vulnerable? There would be no suspense or no threat to them, which is an appealing part of the Turtles because they don't have super powers and can die in a street fight just as easily as you or me.

If Raph can wreck a vehicle with his shell, we can assume it's pretty darn close to bulletproof.

But surely, the turtles will face and enemy who gives them a run for their money. People make mistakes with movies, but no one is going to tell a story where the hero isnt matched by the enemy. That's not going to happen.

People are complaining about Raph and the humvee, but on the original Mirage comics one of the turtles survived being killed with a gun because he managed to turn around and the bullet hit the shell and didn't harm him.

On the Archie comics they all survived an explosion by retreating inside their shells.

Point is, it might not be believable, but nothing they didn't do before.

He wasn't physically powerful because he didn't NEED to be. His threat was all about control, not brute strength. He had an army backing him up, doing anything he wanted, and he was manipulating the Avengers for half the movie. THAT's his strength- his ability to control and magically mess with others. It's what makes him a very dangerous villain. Yes, he was outmatch physically by Hulk- but so is everyone ELSE!!

All hail the Avengers. The most amazing well balanced superhero film I have ever seen. Imo.. that movie should be a staple for other superhero films the way TDKR seems to be. I cant wait for the second one next year. As for TMNT? Its a fact that there are some extremely talented martial artist that were hired for this film even thought some will try to deny it. That's fine. We are days away from getting a new trailer, hopefully seeing the TURTLES fighting will actually ease some of the concern... but I doubt it lol. I for one believe Eastman when he says that we are all in for a pleasant surprise.

Pretty sure Avengers is currently the bar for super hero movies. What I felt it did so well, and TMNT in particular needs to emulate, is it didn't feel like "Iron Man and the Avengers" or "Captain America and the Avengers." The characters were all well presented and shared screen time. It was a TEAM movie.

If they have bulletproof skin, then what would make them vulnerable? There would be no suspense or no threat to them, which is an appealing part of the Turtles because they don't have super powers and can die in a street fight just as easily as you or me.

You forget, the movie is all about megan fox, the suspense comes because the turtles may be semi-invulnerable mini hulks, but they might not be able to protect April if there are too many explosions...

You know, the animatronics world has come a long way. Check out this demon baby, I could totally see something like this being used for the Turtle's faces.

Really? nothing agains that but thats not very good IMO there are far better thing out there But i get what you saying. Still doesn't stop the fact that in order to get the fluidity Mocap is the far better option Now maybe mixing Mocap with Animatronic could work but that would mean a much larger budget and Post production time.

That was just from some amateurs. Anyways, animatronics and CGI worked beautifully for Jurassic Park, don't see why it couldn't with TMNT.

Well the dinosaurs aren't moving around like a ninja turtle would.. I guess.. I think when you put all of the factors into one pot " The character design , the fluidity mobility and intensity of the CGI characters" I think CGI was the right call to make. For example.. when Leo flipped off of the water tower.. CGI makes all of these things possible. A lot of films do it these days. Marvel films use a good amount of CGI. GOTG looks like a CGI fest as well. But imo the CGI is what will make all of those planets and characters look cool.

But, I still think it could be cool to use the combinations in future movies.

And I still can't believe they don't have Ray Park in this. Can't believe it. He would be the first one I would have cast.

They could have they choose not too. Meh. It wasn't from amateurs it was an advertisement(prank) for a movie.

But the mixing of both CGI and Animatronics Takes more resources and a larger budget.

Ill agree with that. Jurassic Park was one of my favorite films and def. proves that when done right Animatronics can work well. In Jurassic World they are using Animatronics, I cant WAIT for that film next year

Jurassic park still surprises me to this day...not only did they use animatronics but also Puppets but Men and women in Raptor Costumes

CGI was only used when needed...in todays world it has become kind of a crutch

When Turtles was first announced, I read an article stating that they were going to go the route of 'Where the Wild Things Are'...modern robotics/animatronics enhanced by CGI, and I was totally onboard - dont get me wrong, I love the aesthetic of the Turtles we got, but was bummed they ultimately went full-CGI.

real talk...RAY PARK is very talented. and nothing against the guy, his Darth Maul is super memorable, but the martial arts 'trickers' that are coming up in the stunt guy scene, blow him out of the water. Hollywood's early exposure to 'tricking' came because of wushu talented guys, mainly Ray Park, who paved the way, but the guys coming up since that time are taking what hes done, and enhanced it by leaps and bounds. just watch the vids on the TMNT STUNTS threads, and you'll see stuff the Ray does AND MORE. I love Ray Park, and if he casted as IRON FIST, it'll be a good day indeed, but there are better 'trickers' out there.

he really is great but you're right i mean even the guys working on this movie have approved upon what he has done. Him as Iron fist would be great

Disagree, I think Park is the best in the business.
