Hi guys,

My wife noticed the film on sale the other day and picked it up for me. First time I've seen it since the cinema.

Here's my review - My review of the 2007 TMNT movie.
http://www.superdstuff.com/2014/05/tmnt-2007.html

If you visit my Facebook page (links in my sig), then I'm trying to start up a conversation regarding ranking the four turtles. Be great to see some of you joining in!

Cheers :tgrin:

Pretty good review.

I agree with most of your points.

My main fault with the movie is how Mikey and Donnie are pushed to the back, becoming almost like supporting characters.

I'd only disagree with the villains being nonsensical. They seemed fairly reasonable for a turtle villain considering some of the wacky ideas the turtles have had on early adventures.

A crystal that brings drawings to life, a busty time traveler who stole a time scepter because she was bored at work and is avoiding her boss. With aliens and all sorts of other sci-fi silliness, the backstory for the villains didn't bother me at all.

In fact, I think TMNT was fairly solid, if a little rushed for plot and lacking in character development you noted. Honestly, it feels more like a multi-episode show edited into a feature length film that would have served as a Season 2 finale for a series more than a stand alone film.

My least favorite Ninja Turtles film. By far. The worst designs, they are shaped like Geckos. Leo is a douche. Raph is a punk. Mike, and Don have no purpose in the film. Hated Splinter's voice. Terrible April, and Casey. The worst villains ever. Just a mess of a movie. Nothing was done to push the property, or take it in an interesting direction.
I agree. Splinter sounded drunk.

Thanks for the comments guys.

It being the second best film in my eyes really just goes to show what I think of the second and third films. I really liked the second as a kid but now it annoys me. Especially as the suits get worse in my opinion.

Splinter was voice by Mako! How you gon' hate Mako? :D

April and Casey were pretty good, I thought. Not sure what would make them terrible.

I *like* Leo being a bit of an ass sometimes. Just because he's the disciplined one doesn't mean he has to be the diplomatic nice guy all the time and Raph needs Leo to put him in his place from time to time (just like Leo needs Raph to challenge him) for their dynamic. The problem was how poorly the movie itself set up that conflict. Even Laird had problems with it.

I wasn't amazed by Mako. He almost sounded drunk at times. I did like seeing his love of 'stories' on the TV though.

Leo being a bit of an ass makes sense. He has been put in charge and takes it seriously. So he has an authority thing going on that will sometimes come across as looking down his nose at the others. He can be quote 'my way or the highway'. It's part of what makes him a rounded character, like his doubts about being a good leader.

I hated that Donnie and Mikey were barely in the movie, and also the movie was also pretty sloppy

This is an exellent summery to the 07 tmnt movie....if one thing was missing it would be the lack of fight scenes even tho they stated this was cgi's main purpose in the turtle verse. If i remember correctly it was said by kevin munroe and i quote.....i know people arent really digging the cgi asspect of this film but just imagine what you could do with the turtles, just imagine the turtles on a roof fighting 150 foot soldiers...end quote...but did we ever get that no...only real fight scene was between leo and raph and that didnt last long.....

We got the turtles/monster/Foot in the building, Leo/Raph, the Foot at the entrance to the building, and the final turtles vs Stone Warriors. I thought they had plenty of action beats.

The big turtles with Casey & April & Splinter vs Foot was just too short, though.

Still more fight scenes than Ooze or III :/

Yea there were scenes of fighting but it never really showed the fighting.....its hard to put into words but it was like they were fighting behind the scenes while the focus was somewhere else.....idk, but with cg I expected something along the lines of, but just as examples, like rumble in the bronx, romeo must die, kung fu hustle, idk just anything that shows full battles hand to hand...would have even settled for something like karate kid compared to what we got....just saying....and personally I thought the fighting in 3 was the best aspect of the whole movie. Maybe it was just me tho

Yes I agree, just hope this new movie Don and Mike don't get the same treatment

The 2k7 film is my second favorite as well, mainly only because I thought the 2nd and 3rd movies were really bad. I don't have too many positive comments on it, besides that it had some funny moments and a good Raph/ Leo storyline. I appreciate what it was trying to do in terms of having a new villian and all that but they could have at least picked enemies that had more of a tie to the lore. I mean, what if they introduced Dimension X and took a sci-fi route? That would have been awesome!

Also, I wasn't big on Splinter's voice either. Too...grating and slow for my tastes.

You mean we got an overview of the fights rather than being in the midst of them. I can see what you mean there, and agree with it.

You guys should not speak ill of the dead :(
You may not like the way he portrayed splinter, but don't insult him by saying his splinter is drunk
He voice Iroh on Avatar the last airbender. He did the perfect voice for that character, when I think of Iroh I think of him. it just a damn shame he died before season 3 was produced....damn writers strike, selfish assholes.

It was alright-ish. I enjoyed it for what it was, a small standalone film which, especially in the trophy room, payed homage to the franchise.

6/10

I didn't. I asked how someone would hate his voice acting.

I liked his Splinter, though Iroh was just more perfectly cast.

This sums up my thoughts on this movie exactly.

I only saw it for the first time a couple of months ago (bad fan, I know). This film is poor to say the least. I also like to think I have a keen eye for design, and these Turtles are some of the worst looking I have seen. No effort put into how they look. If you black and whited the 4 Turtles (without weapons) you probably wouldn't be able to tell them apart easily...

Just my thoughts, I'd give it a generous 5/10.

I think this was one of my favorites though I admit Raph was a bit of jerk, he ticked me off actually in this one :ohwell:

Raph is way broader than the others, although I've always thought he looked kind of old womanly in this one....
