Glad this got a new thread, Didn't want to reply in the other thread

You can't really base a script on how long into a movie.

Movie scripts are over 100 pages, which have to include discription of scenes and dialogue so you you have to cram a lot into a script and they are written spaced out so page 24 could be 15/20 minutes into the film. 30 minutes into the film (i'm just guessing) probably be page 40

Sewer Sirens Podcast

On average, one page of a script is one minute. That's at least what I learned in theatre, not sure if it applies to film.

It's an industry standard. It's not a hard rule, but generally speaking scripts are expected to adhere to it within reason.

Is there a script where April is introduced to the turtles?

Like how the autobots introduced themselves to Sam?

My guess:
April regains conscious as she finds out she's in the turtles lair. At first when they saw her awoke, she was scared of them until Splinter comes and offers her some tea.

Later on, he explains their origin to her; where they came from. She realizes that Splinter & the turtles were the same animals in the lab. Then Splinter introduces the turtles to April:

Splinter: My eldest son... Leonardo of the katana.
Leo: It's an honor to meet you. Call me Leo.
Splinter: His youngest brother, the smart one... Donatello of the bo staff.
Donnie: Who would've thought the first human would be so... I mean... call me Donnie.
Splinter: The arrogant yet strong of the bunch... Raphael of the sai.
Raph: 'Sup! You don't look so bad.
Mikey: Heeeyyyy!!!
Splinter: (giggling) You already met the last of the young brothers, Michelangelo.
Leo, Raph & Donnie: Call him Mikey!
Mikey: Sorry 'bout the scare earlier. Guess that first impression didn't go well.

April: So.... am I a prisoner here?
Leo: Not at all. Guess to us, you're the first human to ever understand our existence. Nobody does anyway.
Mikey: You're welcome here anytime, girlfriend!
Raph: Ignore Mikey, your life will be a lot easier.

Also in the IDW storyline, Splinter remembers his former life but the Turtles do not. One of the lines - "I think... That we must be doing this for a reason. I just dont know what that reason is..." is another possible clue that it's IDW based.

So page 24 could mean on average 24 mins into the film, doesn't sound too bad for a possible 2 hour film. I expect the first 24 mins will consist of a flashback, Megan Fox, Subway fight then we see the turtles.

2 hours seemed long to me at first, longer than any previous turtle film, but then I realized that's become standard for just about any film lately.

Still 1/4th of the film without the turtles? Depends entirely on how they pull it off. Could work, though.

Agree if that is the case which i dont think it will be but who knows But like i said in the other thread if we get sneaky sneaky turtle kick but from the shadows as well as fluffy plot build up, then 20-30 min doesn't seem bad to me. And there is obviously there is action leading up to that point and im betting there is even more than just the subway scene. Plus people saying the huge hulk turtle who are invulnerable obviously not.

i thought at first that 25, possibly 30 mins into the film was bad, especially when compared to the original, where they made an appearance less than 10 minutes in...but if this is a retelling of their origins, then set-up is required. Everyone keeps comparing this film to the first Amazing Spiderman, and yes, we saw Peter Parker, but he didnt start out with his abilities, the story had to build. So I'm prepared to put my stop watch down so long as their backstory gets treated well.

When a screenplay is approved for production, the scenes are assigned numbers which are included in the script alongside the scene headers. The numbers provide a convenient way for the various production departments to reference individual scenes.

After a shooting script has been widely circulated, page numbers are locked, and any revisions are distributed on revision pages. Thus the production office might issue a revision containing new pages 3, 9, 17 and 45. This avoids having to print and distribute an entirely new draft for every set of revisions, which would entail crew members having to transfer all their handwritten notes to a new script. If scenes on page 45 become longer, they will be continued on new pages 45A, 45B and so on; if the scenes on page 45 are all eliminated, a new page 45 will be issued with the word "OMITTED" as the absence of a page 45 might look like an error.

Revision pages are distributed on colored paper, a different color for each set of revisions, with each changed line marked by an asterisk in the right margin of the page. The progression of colors varies from one production to the next, but a typical sequence would be: white, blue, pink, yellow, green, goldenrod, buff, salmon, cherry, tan, ivory, white (this time known as "double white"), and back to blue ("double blue").

When the Assistant Director believes that there are more changed pages than are worth swapping out, the Script Coordinator may issue an entirely fresh script in the appropriate revision color. In some cases, usually before the start of principal photography, an entirely new "white draft" will be distributed in lieu of colored revision pages. The pages in a white draft are renumbered from scratch, while the original scene numbers are maintained.

That is taken from wikipedia but it does a better job explaining it than I can.

Well, it is an open forum, and if you want to have nothing but positive feedback, I suggest you go to proboards and make up your own forum so that you are the moderator and can ban anyone that says anything negative.

People do have a right to their opinions and feelings, and I think you need to respect that, because right now, you are not.

Scenes and set pieces can survive complete rewrites. The Blue Door script was a legit draft, which means previs was probably going on during that time. Just because set pieces remain doesn't mean that the entire story and details are the same.

As evidenced by the fact that the Blue Door didn't have Eric Sachs at all. What remains to be seen is how much of the Blue Door they kept and just revised to swap a few roles. Shredder & the military foot replace Bebop and Rocksteady in the sewer lair invasion against Splinter, for example.

The snow escape is potentially taken directly from the script, though how much in its entirety is the question.

I'm wondering where the snow scene takes place too. In the Blue Door it was in Michigan.

Just for kicks and giggles, I decided to take a spin editing the Blue Door script myself. Will see how that turns out. ;)

And on the photo of the 18 Wheeler, the opposite page, why is Raph's plastron gray/black? Poor coloring in the print or is he wearing something? It definitely isn't that dark in the trailers.

True, They probably just took the set pieces and applied it to a new Script with a totally different story.

Sometimes they would right action scenes before they come up with a story, They would create stuff around those set pieces.

I just realized...

If the first 20-30 minutes is development and establishment before we really get the turtles involved, that's 1/4 of the movie at 2 hours.

Then we have the three captured and we'll spend another 20ish? minutes for Raph, April, and Vernon to save them.

Am I really going to get a TMNT movie with half the film putting Leo (plus Mike & Don) out of action. :tmad:

Eh, reads like mediocre fanfic. Clever dialogue is the last thing I expected from this camp, but it's still disappointing. The banter between the turtles, when done well, is one of my favorite things about the property in general.

I expect this movie to have good CGI and visual effects, but I can't say this excerpt leaves me with a good taste in my mouth. :ohwell:

So he thinks every person is going to be Positive about the changes? Or by what they see? Or by what is found out? Or about dialogue involving "Doodie"?

No, they are going to be honest.

And if the guy wants to reply to every single person who says something negative and gives their Honest Opinion about it, then that's his choice.

And if he's that excited, then seriously why does he Care? It's a forum. Room for debating, which is what most of us are doing.

I'm dying to know the origin of these turtles and Splinter. Just based on this one page, it seems they have changed a lot. "Lab rat" mutates into Splinter. At least we know that Splinter starts out as a rat so he's probably NOT April's father lol. I'm thinking the origin is IDW. Any other speculations? I wonder if we will see Splinter appoint Leo as the leader.

The "Doodie" joke sounds like it was lifted from the Howard Stern show. I listen to howard all the time and they always repeat "Duty' and snicker whenever someone says it.

Actually, while I really don't think Splinter actually will be April's father, there's always the possibility that the lab rat is what April's father touches last before touching the ooze. So it really doesn't rule out anything.

Here's he thing guys...I'm all for open debate/discussion...but like Sam, I wonder why some of people who don't like this film spend any time here, and by here I mean specifically the movie thread.

Case in point, I don't care much for the new Nick show, loved the 2k3, and you won't find me on those threads.

I asked TRICKORTREATER once why he stays, and he said in the hopes that something would change his mind, but honestly guys, with everything you've seen so far, does anyone here really think something is gonna magically change their mind/feelings toward the movie.

Nothing against you MAJOR, really, I'm just speaking in generalities.

Sam...this is a fan fourm, you are right. A forum for Turtle FANS of all stripes. Fans who love or hate the Mirage Comics, fans who like or dislike the FW series, fans who like or dislike new Nick series and this new movie.

We may not be fans of this movie...but we are fans of the franchise. We care (good or ill) because it's Turtles. Some LOVE every element because it's Turtles. Some dislike most of what we've seen because of what they are doing to the Turtles.

A fan forum is a place where discussion happens, by both people who will like what you like and will also NOT like what you like. It's life. Powder and I disagree on plenty of stuff, but we're still chummy. I'm sure there are things we'd actually agree with wholeheartedly. It's the way people are.

Just because someone disagrees with you, doesn't mean you call for them to be shut down. It's not just a forum for fans of just the movie. It's a forum for fans of the Turtles to discuss the movie. What they like....and yes...even what they don't like.

Locked until tomorrow so you guys can cool down.

thing is, whether or not the movie is any good, is in the eye of the beholder. so its as much up for debate opening day as anything we are all talking about now. nothing is really trustyworthy, critics get things wrong, even the sales figures arent a good indicator of the qualtiy, just the popularity. im willing to be that come opening day, you still wont like it, and i still will. its just the way it goes.

im not sure really I think maybe the Mikey scene they take her to the lair Because she faints she wakes Ala 90s movie freaks out. But im not sure because vernon is in the lair while the break in happens so unless the visit the lair several times Im not sure.

There is the question, There alot of Evidence leading to a combination of 2k3 shredder and IDW splinter

There was so much emotion in that film. That scene too if you think about it. It always gives me chills.

Splinter knows how dangerous Saki is so he gathers all the strength he can (remember Casey and Danny kinda had to hold him up) to go and help his sons. They don't literally show it, but it's there. And the soundtrack, the part where it drops when the screen cuts to Leo and Shredder fighting. Sooooooo good.

Just because it says in the script that this is the first scene we see the turtles out of the shadows in, doesn't mean that it translated to the film. We already know that when April first sees the turtles, they are well lit on the roof.

Such a backhanded compliment. The bare basics? This excerpt sounded legit, and perfect in tone and character interaction.

But, the Trascript only gives us the bare basics (like the Imagi movie). Leo is leadery, Raph is angsty and Mikey is easily amused and Don, is just there. it isn't a whole lot of text we've given in teh trabscript.

But I do hope Mikey is more then just "ehehehehe doodie", that he is more like Spider-Man when it comes to jokes, and being a prankster, and not... Peter Griffin.

Would it kill many of you to like, or give props to anything in this film? Or is it like a too stubborn, too cool for school kind of deal?

I'll give props when it deserves so, and I have given props to some aspects of what we've seen. Such as the tone of the lighting, the integration of the character models and the hands of the Turtle models looks very well done, as well as the texture job done on them. And hey, I'm still alive!

Being positive about anything being done means an automatic revoke of the hardcore, elitist technodrome cool kids club or something?

The cynicism for a property we have all loved since childhood (why we're still here) is alarming to say the least.

O yes, I am sooo cynical. Grr grr I hate all new TMNT stuff GRRR!

I was fairly positive about the movie up until the Turtle designs where reviled. then I laughed for about 5 minutes straight, after that I worried that I might have cracked a rib after a lot of chest pain. And then, the news have just been rolling downhill from there.

I love most things TMNT, from the Mirage comics to Next Mutation, to the new Nick show. The new movie is probably the only piece of this property (as of this date) that I do not like.

As of now, I predict I'll like the Blue Line special more then the Platinum Dunes movie.

Did I say that? But what on earth have you seen that has so horrendously offended your ninja turtle fan sensibilities to be so entrenched in disdain for something that seems to be doing your franchise justice.

That's entirely your opinion

From some of the casting to the character design to the way its been marketed

Because the original three movies was TDK trilogy quality.

Because the 2k3 show was Batman TAS, or Spectacular Spider-Man.

Because the 2k7 movie was Disney's The Incredibles.

Because the original Mirage stuff was: Watchmen, TDK Returns

Some of you are really odd. Like what little we have seen is like a flippant abomination of the TMNT franchise and it's ABSURD trend setting quality levels.

The point of the franchise is the comedy, the satire, the action, and it doesn't take itself seriously. It's fun. Which by all accounts of what we've seen, this looks to be on some levels.

Again, entirely your opinion.

Even though we've seen Barely Any Action (other than an antenna fall and Raph Smash Humvee), Zero Satire, and only One piece of comedy (the same 'it's just a Mask' joke repeated).

So one piece of comedy, zero satire, very little/Barely Any Action is all it takes? That's cool for you. To each their own. Doesn't mean it's that way for everyone. Using the whole 'you're just whiny' is too much an easy as well as flippant response.

And actually yes, I do like the 2003 cartoon more than Batman: The Animated Series. And I like the first two Ninja turtle films more than Nolan's trilogy (which I always felt was overrated). And I like the original Mirage stuff more than Watchmen.

That's why it's called Opinions.

I would like to see the turtles return to the basic Daredevil kinda tone, also Shredder is cool and all but i want to see a satire of Kingpin, just a Wilson Fisk kinda cryme boss, wouldn't that be cool? (Not Eric Sach because that's just stupid).

no offense but if you don't think whats come before stands up against what YOU consider to be better that's your deal and your opinion. personally I would say 2k3 is on par with btas and spectacular spiderman as like both of those it captured the tone and spirit of the original source material. as much as could be done in a Saturday morning cartoon anyway. and the 2k7 movie had its problems but it got a lot more right than it did wrong. mostly it just suffered from forgettable villains and plot. and the original comics may not have the political and social overtones of watchman but it told engaging stories about concepts like the nature or revenge, the meaning of family, loyalty and brotherhood and the endless cycle that violence creates. so if this movie is living up to your idea of the franchise that's great but me I just don't see it
