View Full Version : What if One Turtle had to be sold?

It happens sometimes, properties start to die out over time, and so, who ever owns those properties might get desperate, so instead of just leasing out the entire franchise or something, they decide to sell just one of the Turtles, lock stock and barrel, to anyone, be it just some random dude, or even Marvel, DC or another major movie studio. So which Turtle would you like to see sold, not sold, and who would have enough to carry on without the other three as back up? What Turtle might be used in other comic book movies, like X-Men, Batman or Kick Ass? Or maybe in another show or something?

I don't think that could work with TMNT because the franchise and premise heavily depends on the family dynamic of these four brothers. No matter which Turtle is removed, it's always going to seem as if something is missing. Now if it was a secondary character (April, Splinter, allies, villains) it could work, but since all four of these Turtles are integral to the ambiance of TMNT, it wouldn't work out.

But I'm pretty sure there is some CEO in a suit who isn't looking at what works or not works, he's only looking at the $$$$$$$. And it could be just him looking to see which Turtle is selling the most and the least in the toys, and the one that is selling the least, he decides to sell off so he don't have to waste money on marketing him no more.

Gosh this question is hard to answer based on which one would "I like to see sold". so imma go with if this was to happen which turtle would most likely be sold?

I'd have to say Raph, he could easily be a wolverine type character. I think he has other characters (casey and slash) that are directly associated with him that could support him having his own spin off.

Leo. He could have his own side journey/adventure like whatever he was doing in TMNT before he came back.

I can easily say Raphael. And, well, there is a reason why I call myself RamboRaph. Because honestly, I could easily see him going the route of a John Rambo and easily see him in many upon many Solo adventures. Always looking for a battle (or a war). Being a loner but at times helping when he has to (or maybe even wants to). Certain stories of him 'battling his anger', or 'going too far/too close to the Edge', or lessons of Humanity. Maybe him trying to lose that animal instinct, or dull that Killer's Edge, or any other amount of ideas that you can throw out for the character.

Maybe at times trying to live a life in the Swamp and not cutting it. Or trying to be a Mercenary for Hire (with certain rules that he will & won't do). And, if ever an end (or for a reboot/restart) I could easily then see him coming home to his brothers (in a joint issue or movie or crossover or whatever amongst studios) as a much calmer/mature individual than how he started.

Oh... so this is kind of like which Turtle would have their own most successful or least successful spin-off series of adventures then? :-?

Well, the way I took her (Warhorse's) question was that if one Turtle was sold to another studio or such, then I could easily see it being Raphael. And if a studio (or even another comic book company or such) just bought that one character, then I think sooner or later that would put that one character in Solo adventures/movies/comics/etc. that could work very well if handled the Right Way. Thus leading to what I had meant in my previous post.

Michelangelo.

He appears the most outside the tmnt franchise alone. Remember Lego movie? Or that crossover short educational cartoon with other franchises? Which turtle do you associate with pizza the most? Yep, only him cause he attracts the most audience imo.

This. I've seen commercials on TV with just Mikey, like that zipline commercial. No offense to any Donatello fans, but they would not sell him for sure. He's the nerd, a lot of people don't like the nerd. I mean, hey, I think Donatello is awesome, not hating, but I'm just saying. He would NOT get sold. It would be Michelangelo because I think Mikey is the most memorable turtle. During the period of time where I didn't watch anything TMNT related for 3 years, he was the only turtle I even remembered. I remembered his name, I remembered he had the orange mask, I remembered he was the funny one, I remembered he loved pizza. Everyone else I forgot about completely.

I have to agree with Both Raphael and Michelangelo

Raph has the lone wolf story that can always be worked,

and Mike has that fun loving personality that could support and build of his own story

the reasons all ready stated for both

i mean for as long as i can remember Michelangelo was the Face of TMNT on most merch

If that happened, I'd just cancel the franchise altogether outside of the IDW comics since IMO one of these Turtles sold off is irreplaceable with regards to the chemistry that makes the TMNT. This isn't Power Rangers of Pokemon where you come to expect the team to get replaced after a season or two; these four have been the cornerstone of the franchise for 30 years which is more like a marriage than just a relationship. I guess I'd sell Leonardo since while being the integral leader, he is the least entertaining of the Turtles and having an alternate leader would help out the best, especially if they have Karai join the team after a landmark story ark involving Leo vs. Karai that results in an exodus of Leo. Karai could fill Leo's shoes and April could be a good companion for her while Splinter has more time to spend with her daughter (most of the newer versions). Venus could even appear sparingly just to have "I miss when there were four Turtles".

Raphael so we never have to suffer yet another issue/episode where he learns his anger is self destructive and is totally better now guys and then immediately forgets what he learned entirely and goes right back to it.

I don't think I could pick one of the Turtles. They all contribute in one way or another. Even if one of the Turtles are gone, then to make it seem fine, then they would probably have to rewrite the characters.

Can i just pick Venus?:P

I think Leo would work, show him traveling before returning back home as some would said, that'd actually be pretty cool :D

Venus, she seems to be too polarizing for Nick to want to use, but she does have a fan base. Another company could use her and she could be free of the stigma of being the "Fifth Turtle".
