Dude, you need to calm down. Lately, you have been heading down the path of individuals like PWDESAI and MZ. And believe me that is an immature and embarrassing path to head down. Try to be respectful when you post here, and post topics that are worthwhile.

my mum calls them nuNchucks, nuMchucks would be something my grandmother would do  .
If anyone wants to know, there are three official ways to spell nunchucks: nunchuck (duh), nunchaku, and nunchaka. Since the term is of Japanese origin (I think), none of the words would have "s" on the end because there is no plural in Japanese. ex: in Japanese "hon" means "book", and it can also mean "books" at the same time, depending on the conversation depends on the interpretation.
Okay, I'm going to shut up now.

~Being A Mom, I'm happy to share this. I usually say "nunchucks" cuz it seems like the most commonly used pronunciation. Or "'chucks", if I'm writing Mikey dialogue. If I want to sound terribly correct I'll use "nunchaku."
My kids were the ones that said "numchucks"-- at least when they were very young little Ninja Turtles hurtling off the furniture whooping "COWABUNGA!"
In fact, one early version came out "numbchops" which inspired one of my first TMNT cartoons. The punch line was something about a visit to the dentist and a lot of novacaine.....

Bwahaha, the ever talented GW, finding inspiration in the most unlikely of places.
My mom used to say nuMchucks a lot. She wasn't very "up" on weapons and such, but she did think Ninja Turtles were an interesting concept. She loved the theme song. She used to make me sing it in front of people.
Damn childhood trauma...

Word to the wise, "friend"... those "cute" moments may make for funny stories at family gatherings and nice little pictures in the photo albums, but your kids are gonna grow up harboring a deep and festering hatred inside them. All for the sake of "cute".

~Too late. But I think they've forgiven me. Hey, these are the kids whose Mom made Ninja Turtle costumes complete with paper mache heads and shells and whose Dad made very realistic katana for them in his shop.
They did ok.

I give you credit, you paid way more attention to your kids than my parents did. My parents were the type who hung out in the kitchen with all their friends and told me to go in my room and play videogames and who kept telling me all the smoke wafting through the house was from dad burning dinner.
Lousy traumatic childhood....

Ugh, embarassing childhood.
For Halloween, my brother wanted to go as Leonardo. The costume my mum made was pretty decent, except for the fact that there was no shell. She just strapped an ordinary pillow to his back, and drew a crude drawing of a shell on a white pillowcase.
We got the weirdest looks from people. Cruel and unusual punishment.

When I was seven, I bought a pair of wooden nunchucks for my karate class. We've never used hard rubber nunchucks at all. I never knew they existed, but I guess you can get anything now. For people just starting to use nunchucks, most people would tell you to refrain from using metal ones, or ones which are put together with chain (I've never whomped myself in the head with nunchucks, but it might kind of hurt if it was metal). :dead:

~That's interesting, Dark Ninja. When was that?
When my kids started kung-fu back in 1990 I remember accidently witnessing a private lesson one of the instructors was giving an adult student with real nunchaku. The student hastily wrapped them up as he left the dojo because at that point in time, it was illegal to transport them in your car. Maybe that was just in here CA, but I remember that being a big controversy. I think it had something to do with the gang problems in the cities. But shortly after that of course, Michaelangelo's 'chucks were replaced by that grappling hook thing in the 'toon.
So I was always kind of paranoid about having those wooden nunchucks in the house, much less in the car....

That was in 1995, and yes, I think it really has to do with where you are in the world. There aren't any gang problems, and I don't live in the city. :) And I've also heard from one of my friends that it's not a good idea to go to Canada with a pair of real nunchucks laying in the backseat of the car.

Hrmmm.. come to think of it, my parents pretty much tried ot not repeat much of anything Ninja Turtle. My dad helped me set up the spell check to go over one of my early fanfics though, and he wondered why many of the weapons and things were highlighted. Even spelled correctly, nunchuck wigged out the spell checker (until I picked one way to spell the word, then added it to the dictionary).
The only time I saw an illegal set of chucks was when I was visitng my ex-BF's friend. This guy liked to assume the apearence of a delinquent punk. Long hair, black clothes, loved heavy metal, stayed back in the automotive vocational section of the high school. I didn't think he *really* knew how to use them, but someone in a gang had gave him these. They were a black wooden set of chucks, connected with chain that swiveled at the metal caped ends. And it was covered with blunt metal studs to add to it's lethal potency. Wow...
I never really worked with real chucks myself. Just the soft rubber ones, but since I have such horrible coordination, I decided the bo staff would be a safer weapon for me. :P

Actually, having used a boastaff for about 7 years, I wouldn't say the boastaff is as safe as nunchucks. You should've seen the bruises I've had on my arms from practicing... and if you try to do the fancy twirling then the boastaff is just as lethal as the nunchucks.
