In light of the Cinemablend, and PTravers articles...a little more positive news:

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/trailer-report-godzilla-tmnt-x-702360

In the second spot was the new TMNT trailer with 3.2 million YouTube views. The first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trailer was in the eighth spot with 891,474 views for a cumulative total of 47.8 million views since its March 27 release (making it one of the two or three best-performing summer trailers. THR will have a cumulative summer top 10 Memorial Day weekend).

TMNT has been the summer trailer surprise, holding its own against higher-profile comic book releases like X-Men: Days of Future Past and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. And the first trailer has proven to be more than a passing fancy, making regular appearance in the top 10 in the six weeks since its release.

The showdown between TMNT, which opens Aug. 8, and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which bows Aug. 1, should be interesting and points toward a very robust late-summer box-office take.

Jeez, Godzilla could spend five bucks on marketing and still be a giant success. But to do stuff like this is awesome.

Would be cool if they did one of the Turtles and Shredder.

Of course, you have the idiotic internet cynicism HATE brigade against Michael Bay simply because, well ... he's Michael Bay.

Haters gonna hate.

I like how nobody can pooooossibly have reasons for disliking the look of things. It's all just irrational hatred of reboots and Michael Bay. Nothing to do with actual statements, explanations, and reasons for being negative and cynical towards this film. Nope, couldn't be any foundation for them at all.

The stupid "he raped my childhood" cult always find a way to voice their negativity. Hell, they've done it for Amazing Spider-Man 2 and that film while even if flawed is better than most of the Marvel Studio films that have been released.

I liked ASM2, but...better than most of the Marvel Studio films? That's a real stretch.

This all depends on if Internet activity translates to box office activity. As Forbes recently pointed out (predicting Godzilla to be a disastrous box office bombs), Scott Pilgrim had wild and popular trends and Internet reaction with a lot of interest, but didn't translate to box office gold. We just gotta wait.

Less than 3 months, though. Wonder when the trailer will drop and marketing will start ramping up. Guessing late June with Transformers? All of 1 1/2 months before release? I can't...really see them waiting that long. We gotta get something with X-Men, right? RIGHT?!

I'm still rather irked that Ken Watanabe, who would be an awesome Shredder or voice of Splinter, is voice acting in Transformers 4, and was announced as an addition just recently. Curses....

What with defenders of this movie being rather rude [people]?
It's like they believe, if they insult their opposition, it will make their opinion stronger somehow.
In reality, my [rude friend], you only paint yourself as an [overzealous rude person], who nobody will take seriously.

It's all based on opinion and preference but to me the script for ASM2 is the weakest comic book script in a long time. The story, dialogue, and character motivations are terrible. I hated everything about it.

honestly, I expect it to be a nice action flick
as a TMNT film, I expect it to rank around the second movie, but less than the first and TMNT
as a TMNT Story in general, I don't expect much - could never be as good as something like Blind Faith

It really isn't a stretch.

People didn't want to like Webb's series before it even came out. Had an up hill battle of perception from the get go. You had the Raimi purists, a short time between reboots due to the obvious issue of the rights to the character on screen. Then you have the MS fan boys who yearn for it to fail just so the character can be integrated in with the rest of the Marvel Studios B Team.

Both these parties have rooting interests in bashing it, and wanting it to fail.

Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, Thor, Thor DW, Cap: FA. Atrocious, hackneyed, lazy films. Seriously the only good Marvel Studio films are Iron Man, and Cap WS. Avengers is bad, but that final act is just very entertaining. It coasts on it's gimmick, and uniqueness.

ASM2 has plenty of issues, but the way it's talked about you'd think it's Batman and Robin. It's a better film, clearly, than all of those other ones from MS I mentioned.

Uh huh...alright, well if "You don't know me, I'm suddenly a bad guy and hate Spider-Man" is a good movie, I guess.

Seriously, Iron Man 2 was Shakespeare compared to the motivational development Electro had. Even Harry was packaged and stuffed into his villain costume with practically no time spent. At least he was given enough screen time to HAVE a motivation, but not much.

And again, I LIKED ASM2. I've said it's THE BEST Spider-Man portrayal on film, but there are serious flaws there, more glaring than IM2 or IM3 in my opinion.

Oh it's got a slew of problems. It's such an odd experience watching it. At times it has moments of brillaince. Scenes that rank up there with the best films of the genre. Then it has absolutely terrible scenes, characterizations, and motives as well. It still isn't near as bad as it's being made out to be. It's better than SM3, that's for damn sure.

My friend, I have a Spider-Man, Green Goblin, and Venom toy from the 90s. I'm pretty sure you and I can make a better movie using them and stop motion than SM3.

Okay, okay, maybe that's a little harsh, but you get the idea. ;)

And you're on sound effects duty for the film. Just make sounds like "wooosh" and "kasphewww!"

Really? The motivations for Vanko are just as stupid.

Vanko starts out losing his father and seeing Stark as having stolen his father's work, putting him in the living conditions he was in and sets out for revenge from the start.

Electro is obsessed with Spider-Man then just sort of flips the switch (get it?) to hating him and will kill him. It was a 180 with no real effort behind it. Just sort of "he didn't recognize him, so he's a bad guy now."

Maybe originally. I'm guessing you haven't read any Spidey comics over the last decade or so. His more recent stories usually involve baddies with much better motivations than an obsessed fan-boy going ape after being rejected. Most of Spidey's original villains had some interesting backstories, at least, though, but this?! Makes me want to face-palm. With one of Oc's tentacle claws. And Harry as the (second) GG (in SM3) at least made sense! So did Oc and Sandman, for that matter. Apparently, the NEW Spidey movie has Harry in the suit from the start- NO!!! Did these guys not pay attention to ANYTHING about these characters?! Seriously. This stupid plot comes out, and the OTHER three movies are bad?! Um, o-kaaaay..... Sorry, it's just no contest.

MsMarvelDuckie

No, they weren't. As a prime example, Electro was an ordinary line-man who was hit by lightning in a freak accident, and decided to use his new powers to get respect and make his own life better by- yes, becoming a criminal. Oc himself was obsessed with his experiments and neglected safety because of it. And his accident in the lab affected his mind in both the comics and the movies. Conners was trying to regrow his arm, but as Lizard, he became a brutal and barely rational monster in every sense of the word. It was an experiment gone wrong, but his motives were never "sloppy" or "lazy" It was an effect of his serum on his mind, much like the Radiation did to Oc.

Green Goblin was a manipulative, unfeeling psychopath even BEFORE he gained his powers- as evidenced in many of the flashbacks over the years. This is a man who blatantly chose to concern himself with his own public image over his son's welfare after Harry's drug overdoes in the comics! And then seduced Gwen and murdered her. (It's never been fully determined whether she was even alive when Spidey caught her.) Then he raised and brainwashed her twin children by him into hunting Peter and attacking him- just as an added insult. And he has murdered people even as Norman Osborn, and yet managed to convince the government to put him in control of SHIELD! This is a very complex villain, with many dimensions to his personality and motives.

Rhino was subjected to experiments because he worked for a crime syndicate and needed the money. It was actually his decision to undergo the experiments that gave him his strength and other attributes, and the only down side was fusing the suit to his body. No accident at all! And as we later learn, it's all because of his mother in Russia, who has been sick for years, and whom he wished to bring to America, but couldn't due to his lack of financial resources and his own status as a convict and fugitive.

And these are just a FEW of his main villains. Kraven originally wanted to hunt him for sport- as the ultimate prey, being a big game hunter for whom nothing else was a challenge anymore. And he wasn't even trying to kill Peter, but capture him to turn over to the police!

And these backgrounds are lazy and flimsy? How much do you really KNOW about Spider-Man's history outside of the movies? Because I've been reading the comics for YEARS. There's a reason I chose the name I did on here- I was a fan of Marvel in general- and particularly of Spidey- long before the movies came out. I've been a Spider-fan since the 90's, and have collected the comics and other books for a very long time. That includes most of the Marvel Universe guides, and the Marvel Encyclopedia. Your assessment of Spidey's villains is very simplistic and one-sided. They are FAR more complex and diverse in origin than what you claim.

Nope, but I DID used to be a Mod on the Marvel message boards and contributor to the Marvel Universe(their in-site wiki). I gave it up when it became too time-consuming and I got tired of all the site-crashing/ format changes and other aggravations of trying to perform that "job". Especially after they updated their servers and the new boards format was bass-ackwards, and NOT very user-friendly.

Haters gonna hate.

On other comic book sites, I'm seeing form of positivity, even if reluncantly because you know, it's cool to dislike remakes, reboots, and Michael Bay.

It's not just that. People I showed the trailer to, and weren't TMNT fans at all, but watched the old cartoon when they were kids, they're all pissed now thanks to all the changes PD made on the turtles.

I can imagine a huge chunk of the public reacting like that.

Besides the "hate brigade" is doesn't hate Bay because he is Bay. They hate him because they think all his movies are bad.

Well.. of course millions of people.. all over the world.. would disagree. I'm sure there are people that honestly dislike his films and a lot of people are very outspoken about their hatred for the guy but its all just a matter of opinion. Anyone saying otherwise is just another person with a superiority complex. I can sit here and say " Bays movies kickass " and others can say " gawd I hate Bay he's terrible " but the FACT of the matter is.. his movies are very successful and tons of people enjoy them. That's really all that matters, When it comes to film critics I've noticed a lot of hypocrisy.. There's a lot of bias.. I just don't pay any attention to it anymore. I didn't care for Transformers 2.. but this new one looks awesome.. It will probably be this years highest grossing film and yet the critics and people all over the internet will trash the hell out of it saying things like " Uhh I hate the humans " and then turn around and praise a film like Godzilla. I left the theatre so disappointed in that movie.. but yet critics are praising it.. Imo its best to experience something for yourself rather than allowing others to think for you by adopting their opinions, everyone is different. No one is right or wrong.. and I think it's better that way. As for TMNT.. I've seen a lot of positivity for it.. There is negativity to go along with it but that's gonna happen with any film making changes like this.. it happened with the new cartoon.. Maybe when it comes out and people ACTUALLY SEE IT they will come around like they did for the Nick toon.

MsMarvelDuckie just ETHERED my existence. haha I am not near that knowledgable at Spider-Man's mythos. Batman however? That's all me. I just feel a lot of the Spider-Man characters, and Marvel in general are too much like science experiments gone wrong. Just my view on it.

And yet, the oddest part of that statement is that most of them were actually either cosmic/natural accidents- Fantastic Four, X-Men(because mutations are a natural "accident"), Spidey (the spider was never altered by man, so it counts as a "natural accident- though a few years ago it was suggested in the comics that it was an agent of Peter's destiny as a holder of the spider-totem's power), She-Hulk(got it from a blood transfusion from Banner), Venom, Tigra- or science experiments that went RIGHT. Cap, Iron Man, Ms. Marvel(my fave female Marvel hero), Spider-Woman, Ant-Man, Vision, X-23(a female clone of Wolvie, complete with adamantium claws) and Deadpool, to name a few.

And then you have those who voluntarily took up powers from an outside source for personal reasons, or as part of some greater "destiny", like Juggernaut, Nova, Dr. Strange, Chameleon, Black Cat(she originally had no powers, but later had herself augmented purposely to mimic the "powers" she had supposedly already had), Phoenix(Jean already HAD powers, of course, but she allowed the Phoenix entity to join with her), Black Panther, Ghost Rider, and many others.

And the ordinary humans without powers, who are simply VERY good at what they do. Hawkeye, Bullseye, Black Widow, Agent Hill, Nick Fury, Mysterio, and probably many others I can't think of ATM.

And that's not counting all the "gods", and other immortals in Marvel- Thor, Aries, Hercules, Loki, Aphrodite, Selene, Enchantress, Odin, Heimdal, Mephisto, Blackheart- and these are just off the top of my head.

Like I said, treating them all as simple science experiments gone wrong vastly underestimates the complexity and diversity of the MU in general, where origins can be as simple as some astronaut finding a strange rock on the moon that turns him into a monster (Man-Wolf), or as elaborate as Jonah Jameson hiring some scientist to build a suit and genetically alter a petty crook to go after Spidey (Scorpion). Motivations also vary greatly, too. One of the most incredible and far-reaching stories in Marvel is the "Secret Wars" arc with the Beyonder forcing all the major heroes and villains to fight to the death on a small remote moon. The winners were to be given ANYTHING they wanted.
