View Full Version : If the film leaked early...would you watch it?

I'm curious...I'll be honest, and say I would, simply because I'm so hyped to see a new incarnation of the Turtles.
Would I still see it opening day in theaters? Yes.
But seeing as I'm the type of person who loves seeing things I enjoy over and over again, I know seeing a leaked copy early, wont ruin my enjoyment of seeing it in theaters.
You?

Based on my current feelings about the movie, yes, if I had the chance to save $$ by watching a leaked copy, I absolutely would. If it was good, I'd then happily pay to see it at the cinema.
Let's be brutally honest here, there are probably going to be cam copies out there well before it gets released outside of the US (not wanting to derail this into a fratching session about illegal downloads... I'm just pointing it out is all.)

Uh... good question lol. I really honestly don't know.. I would try not to.. but if the torrent was sitting right in front of me? God.. honestly it would be unbelievably difficult to not download it and at least watch a little. Nothing will stop be from seeing this in 3D and 2D a few times.. I've been waiting since 09, technically since the 90's lol. I'm gonna go with no. I wouldn't want to ruin it for myself. I want to experience it on the big screen first. I've waited to long. I've never been so stoked for a film in my life.

What makes you think that? That cam torrents will show up early before its release? And how early do you think they will pop up? I heard that GOTG had a prescreening. I wonder when TMNT will have one. I've been to a few and they wont even let you have a cell phone in there.

If it was a good quality version, yes. Most likely won't be though. It wouldn't be DVD rip quality.

i would definitely try and get a copy of it but wouldn't actually watch it until i saw it on the big screen. i wouldn't want to ruin that opportunity. then after seeing it for the first time in theaters then i'd watch the heck out of it. :)
TMNT is cooler than MOTU
05-20-2014, 11:14 PM
It depends on the quality. If it was from some dude's cellphone, no. But if it was a screener of some kind, sure. And if I ended up liking it, I'd gladly shell out the money to see it in a theater.

Same. I can't afford to see it multiple times in theaters, but I'll definitely do myself a favor and see it once. Then the copy would be a mainstay on my phone until iTunes released it properly.

Sorry Puddin, just to clarify - I meant before the release in countries outside the US. I'm in Australia and it's pretty common to have cam copies of major films on the torrents before they're out over here.

Noooooooo.
I don't even watch TRAILERS (made an exception for TMNT, but didn't watch any trailers for arguably my most/second most anticipated movie of the year, ASM2, and the pay off was great), because when I see the movie, I want to have the full cinematic experience. The quality of the footage, the sound, and I definitely don't want to know what happens.
If people see the movie before me? Oh well. Will I have to avoid this forum? Sadly, yes. Oh well. But seeing the movie as it's meant to be seen is something I highly value.

I'm surprised because the whole point of a trailer is to get you excited for the film...now granted, trailers lately have been giving practically everything, so I can understand where you are coming from, but I could never go so far as to avoid ALL trailers, but that's just me.

Usually if I'm already pumped for the movie, and I KNOW I'm going to end up seeing it, I avoid trailers. I started this only a year ago, and have been doing it hardcore ever since, so it's still sorta new to me. And trust me, there is a HUGE temptation to watch them, because something I used to do is sit down and watch a whole bunch of trailers. And rewatching and rewatching. To the point where it took some enjoyment out of the film.
The big reason I'm watching these TMNT trailers is because it's so controversial, I've been waiting for this movie forever, and I have to review them on our podcast. That's why I'm glad we have seen minimal things from this movie, unlike all those ASM2 trailers that gave away the whole movie.

As to how people manage it, I have no idea - but there's already cam copies of Godzilla out there, and it only came out in Oz last week. It seems that most cam copies come from the States, and a lot of the clean telesync/webrips are coming from Korea at the moment (though they have hardcoded subs). Most dvd-quality screeners come from the US as well.

I'll be honest, while i think that ASM2 gave practically everything away during its marketing phase, if the Turtles did, because I have never been more excited or attached to a property in my life, not only would I watch everything online, but I'd see the film in theaters too. But that's the exception I make for the turtles, my heros since I was lowly immigrant, lol, true story.

Aw, that's sweet, graphic! :) Stories like that warm my cynical old heart - despite all of our differing opinions, the boys in green mean a lot to all of us.
Personally spoilers don't bother me (I've been immune to them since the Star Wars prequels), so if the next trailer was plot-heavy I wouldn't mind. At this stage of the game and until I hear more after the US release, I fully plan on still seeing it at the cinema when it finally comes out, cuz hey - Turtles on the big screen doesn't come along every day.

Just one thing to say:
I want to watch it in 2D cause I hate the 3D glasses and the last movie I watched it 3D was most of the time just "flat". It`s not worth it.

I might actually enjoy a low res copy of this movie over an eye blistering HD version, it'll cut down on some of the atrocity that is the turtles, but then my enjoyment would be dependent on the story and I've read the blue door script...

As I am not cinemagoer, I most likely will wait for the DVD / whatever-this-movie-will-be-released-on-rip. As a rule, I usually don't watch movies recorded from the screen in the cinema, but for this project I am willing to make an exception. Even if it currently looks like it will be a disaster, it's still project related to the Turtles.

No. Because more than likely the leaking is done illegally, and I do believe when it's done to movies, it's stealing. Now, if it's done like some movies are doing now, having the movie shown theatrically and, on demand, I might be enticed to watch it on demand. But, I dunno, I'm patient and do like the movie going experience. I missed Kick Ass in the theater, and that's like my second most favorite CBM of all time, and I still hate myself for missing it. But, I hate the studio even more, because I didn't even know about the movie until after it hit on DVD and my cousin told me about it.
Nope. Not cool with that kinda ish.

I think everyone has good arguments both for and against a leaked copy. I understand that pirating dvds and music hurts the industry, but I view downloads as a way to try before you buy - and then if you like it, you see it at the movies/buy the cd/get the dvd. I don't think there's any harm in downloading something that you end up not liking anyway, but it's entirely possible that my views are inconsistent!
Then you take into consideration that some people might not want to wait, a lot of people have conflicting emotions about whether it's going to be good or not (lord knows my opinion has changed back and forth on it about a million times since I first heard about the project!)...
Just my two cents; hopefully I haven't offended anyone with my views (and if I have, I apologise in advance!) :)

The only way I justify illegally pirating a copy of the film is if it's not playing anywhere near me or paramount forces my hand by continuing to just giving us pictures of Megan Fox looking bewildered, then again I would be still watching it on the big screen aka Ughshellshock's bedroom theater where the screen is my entire wall.

qualitywise I feel a lot different tahn many here have stated...I actually would not mind seeing a bad quality recording of the movie before I get the chance to enjoy it on the big screen..this enhances the adventure and the thrill the movie to come out here for me...
I remember the first time I saw a COPY of a movie.it was in 1994 at a friend's house and this dude had slipped a camera into the theater and recorded the street fighter movie with jean claude vandamme;)...

As for the question at hand; I'm actually coming to the point were I'm no longer disappointed at the bastardization that is happening but by that same token losing hope that it could still turn out well in spite of all that and not only feel I don't want to watch it on the big screen but can't muster the effort to watch it for free either.

I don't wanna reward Platinum Dunes with my money. By paying for a ticket to one of their films, it is just furthering the notion that they can continue to churn out the garbage cinema that they do. They are a big budget Asylum studio, as far as i'm concerned.....but the evil side of their studio is they actually get the licenses for the properties they "reboot". Just look at the GIANT list of 8 films they've released. 5 are "reboots"...and all are critical BOMBS. As a horror fan.....the fact that they have the rights to Jason, Freddy, and Leatherface now....and we, as an audience, won't be able to see another studio who actually RESPECTS those franchises make an awesome film within those universes is the REAL bull s***.
And now, they own the rights to the Turtles.
I refuse to re-enforce Hollywood to keep creating these types of awful "rebooted" films and wasteful big budget schlock fests. MILLIONS of dollars are literally wasted on these movies, and i refuse to be a part of supporting that side of the industry that i think is just pandering to brand name recognition and not attempting at creating something new.
So, i choose to vote with my dollar. I don't want to contribute to the "opening box office weekend" that is so valuable to Hollywood these days. By doing so, we're telling them that it is OK to keep making this kind of trash and we expect nothing better. G.I.Joe, Transformers, TMNT, Thundercats, Masters of the Universe...these properties are RICH in lore and stories that DESERVE a serious and respectful version in modern cinema, and if we keep lining up to be disappointed, we're just telling them it's cool to keep their soulless assembly line going.
If you want to successfully boycott something, then you don't pirate it. It's all about sending the proper message. It you don't see the movie at all, then it sends the message that you don't want to see that kind of thing and don't like the look of it, which could begin a change if enough people do it. If, however, you see the movie illegitimately, it sends the message that you do want to see it, but you don't want to spend to resources to see it, which will instead encourage them to further tighten up anti piracy measures. So, if you thinks this movie looks terrible, then don't see it at all. And why would you want to waste your time on something you're so sure you'll hate anyways?

If you think the movie is going to be garbage and you don't want to give them your money, then don't see it in the theaters, it's very simple! Doesn't matter how much you try to make Platinum Dunes sound like the devil, if you want to taste the Devils fruits FOR WHAT EVER REASON, you should still friggin' admit it and pay the price! Being a hypocrite is worse then making garbage movies in my book.

Thanks for not addressing my post and just calling me a hypocrite in another. I never said PD was the devil....just that they make garbage, and don't respect the franchises they own, in my opinion. They haven't made a movie that's ranked over 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. That is fact.
I don't see how me multiplexing a movie to get drunk with my friends and riff it MST3K style makes me a hypocrite. i guess we can just wait until March of 2015 when it will be on Netflix and be rowdy then. I like to look at it as giving Hollywood my dollar in encouragement to keep making fresh, new ideas......and not keep trying to sell us the same brands again and again, but rotten tomatoes...rotten tomahtoes.

Surely you don't mean Kevin Eastman in which case I think "working closely" is more than an overstatement.
As for the question at hand; I'm actually coming to the point were I'm no longer disappointed at the bastardization that is happening but by that same token losing hope that it could still turn out well in spite of all that and not only feel I don't want to watch it on the big screen but can't muster the effort to watch it for free either.
It's actually not an understatement. He has been involved from the very beginning.

I forgot to hit the "quote"-button, but I was clearly addressing you in that first post. And you and your friends should definitively aim to have a good time and having fun with the movie on the big screen if you so desire. But if you do it in the way you first described, then yes: I will call you a hypocrite! But at this current time you are not as the movie isn't even out yet.

Technically yes as he was working in an advisory capacity with the previous people before Platinum Dunes came along.
But is not true he was let go when they came along so spent a substantial amount of time not involved at all before being asked back in? None of the people including Kevin himself will say that but the idea he has anything but a minor pull is ridiculous.
Why bc you don't like it?
Me and a whole lotta other people.

Between creating a new version and completely changing it wholesale there's a whole realm of good taste. From what I've seen so far this movie is far out from that realm that yes, I'd say it's bastardized.
I just... how could.. Uhh I give up.

Actually, Viacom owns the Turtles. Which is MTV, VH1, CMT, Nick, Comedy Central, Spike Tv, BET, Paramount, and United International. And that's just scratching the surface. But they licensed the Turtles to Platinum Dunes, from what i understand. So, unless Viacom pulls the TMNT away from from Bay and company, they'll be the ones creating their vision and version of the 4 terrapins.

No sweat, dude. All of my friends are indie film-makers, professional musicians, and game designers in varying aspects and capacities, oddly enough. So, i'm pretty opposed to piracy, and i am one to give credit where credit is due. But on the other hand.....i'm not a fan of Hollywood Blockbuster films. I find most of the unbearable and just mindless popcorn flicks that fall apart at the seams when you stop and look at the plot.
I feel like paying to see those kinds of films is letting Hollywood know it's okay to create mindless fluff and not something of greater substance and quality. Exactly like rewarding video game companies like Activision and EA for producing anti-consumer products and embracing the pay-to-win strategies they've been forcing on the gaming industry.
That's my personal opinion (i've never played "madden" or "fifa" or "assassin's creed" or "call of duty") because i don't support that type of consumer exploitative mentality of major corporations. So, if i multiplex at the cinema to make fun of a film, it's only because i'd rather not pirate it, and give more of my money to something that i'd like to see more of to enjoy on a deeper level. And then enjoy ripping the sh!t out of "Batman and Robin" or "2012" in an empty theater with my friends. If that makes me a hypocrite...then, kick ass! When i can i expect my "hypocrite" t-shirt in the mail?

Totally false. Dude lol.. did you even watch the link with Liebesman that I just posted? He has been working with it ever since Peter Laird announced it. Also with John Fusco, and now Bay and Liebesman. Concept drawings mythology and story. With all do respect, instead of claiming how ridiculous it is how about citing a source or backing it up with something?

Changing it wholesale? You haven't seen the movie. The changes being made for this film are no more wholesale then the changes that are being made for IDW, for the 2k3 series, 2k12 series.. Even the 87 toon was a major departure from the original comic. They are just not to your liking. If you think its a bastardization.. fine.. that's you're opinion you have a right to it. Imo, the fact that one of its original creators has been involved with it's development kind of makes me think otherwise.

I'm obviously not going to manage to change your mind, as you see this as something almost... "heroic", when it's in reality more similar to paying the money for a fruit basket and then stealing a tub of Ben and Jerry's. It's not right no matter how much you twist and turn it.

Fair enough dude. But it's a little different than Platinum Dunes owning the rights. They were just the studio that was brought on board for this reboot. Along with Mednicks production company and Gama entertainment. With Viacom/Nickelodeon owning the rights, there is a chance that they could go with another studio for a sequel in the future. Unless there is a contract with PD for a three movie deal like they did with some of the actors. I'm not sure if there is now that I think about it.. I think it's just for this one film, So for people like you that despise what this studio has done, it isn't a lost cause. You might get something a little more traditional in the future if this film ends up doing terribly.

unless the movie straight up does terrible or bay and co decide to drop it, it wont change studios, and if it did well there would be so much red tape and buying out people and execs and producers that it just wouldn't be worth it in the end

I disagree with thinking it's crap but.. you're right. If you want to send a message, you cut it off at it's life source. In this case, money. It's all about money. You can run up and down kicking and screaming that you hate it everyday in every forum on every site.. they don't care. Personally imo this film will make a ton of money bc I think there are way more people excited to see it than there are people that hate it, and a lot of them will most likely see it as well. TMNT fans come from all walks of life, all over the world. From kids to grown adults. I don't think it will damage the integrity of the fan base. I think it will strengthen it and make the fan base even larger, further diversifying it. Continuing the same pattern its had over the last 30 years. If the movie leaked early I'd consider it a good thing since it'd give me a chance to watch it for free, and if I didn't like it, well nothing of value was lost since I have no intentions of seeing it until I can grab it from the redbox anyway. But if I did like it, I'd pay to see it at the theatre and purchase it once it came out.
As it stands? Right now just going to wait on that redbox with the lowest expectations possible.

I've seen all the links you posted before but bare in mind that because some people don't publicly put certain information out there doesn't mean it didn't happen especially if they've been proven to lie or fudge the truth in the past.
Let's put that aside for one moment though and use some common sense. Are they really going to listen to some comic-book guy to make major decisions about a big Hollywood blockbuster?
(Even Laird didn't have that level of control over the Imagi movie and he was the owner at the time.)
Or is it more likely that he's made a few suggestions that may or may not have been heeded and his main role is that of a spokesperson to promote the movie and have everyone from Bay to Leibesman to you claiming "hey the co-creator is involved it must be good, right?"

thats the weird part about contracts, cause lets say the movie studios switched to someone else... fichtner's deal could be transferred
best example i have is narnia...though it failed to do its multi picture deal in the end, originally disney owned the rights to its film adaptations , then gave it to walden media i think, yet all the actors remained the same

If I watch the movie early, and like it. Heck, I'd watch it in theaters. Or I forget all about the movie when the discussions in the movie section dies off, and I'll remember it when it gets mentioned again. And then it's no longer in the cinema. I've done that with movies I wanted to watch, like Captain America, Pacific Rim, Tonto the mo... Errr Lone Ranger, Die Hard 4.
Heck, I forgot to watch X-Men First Class, and I torrented that movie first to see if it was better then the previous slockfests.

True but think of this. If batman and Robin would have been a huge success there would have been a sequel to that campfest and we wouldn't have has the Nolan movies. Likewise if Spider-Man 3 was a huge hit. Do you really want two more sequels of this garbage or someone more qualified to step up and make a better more faithful film.
Don't close your minds and think this is the only way a tmnt movie should be made. There are a million ways and countless interpretations they could have gone with. They seemed to go with 'everything that shouldn't have been changed in a tmnt related movie' cranked to eleven.

But many of these people have lied or fudged the truth, some of it in relation to this very movie so I'd say their credibility is somewhat stretched.
Common sense? some... comic book guy? LMAO yea why listen to Kevin Eastman when rebooting a TMNT film. Just forget about all the videos I've posted with him talking about his involvement in the development of the film. Never mind lol. While we're at it... the hell with Stan Lee!!
Stan Lee is invited to have small cameos in movies based on Marvel properties because the fans like to see him but that's it. By his own admission he has zero input into those movies so he's hardly comparable.
Kevin is a few shades up from that but it's silly to think they are going to do anything but small token things to please someone like Kevin who has zero creative stake. If Hollywood movies were made that way the history of comic book movies would be a lot different.
Next time you talk to him tell him I said hello would ya? Tell him I'm his biggest fan. Just forget what he's said in interviews. I'm sure he could care less if this film is good or not.
Who? Kevin East,am? Maybe we should forget what he says in interviews like when he said that Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation would be a dark series.

Hmmm I guess those drinks did get to you as I think you misunderstood what I was saying.
The fact that they changed the turtles (and Splinter) from aliens back to mutants was a response to the backlash. Do you really think they would have done that if they felt it was a vocal minority complaining?
What are you being promised? You don't know anything..
Fichtner and Leibesman themselves have teased further twists to the story that what we're already aware of, no?
That's the point.. It's like saying crème brulee is disgusting, if you haven't tried it.. Have you ever had a brulee? Its ****ing delicious! Isn't that the point of interviews and trailers and the like to give the audience an idea of what the movie will be like in order to entice us to watch it. The fact that what little we're getting in that regard seems to be doing the opposite.
I would argue that no other version has been altered the property to the point that we know this movie has - and that's before factoring potential other twists that have been hinted at.
Also if you're not a fan of particular director or directing style then I don't think it's unfair to assume you wont like their latest work.
Maybe years from now you'll get what you want. I doubt it though.
A man can dream though.
Yep.. lol That's what I heard all threw both trailers. Farts lmao. Nothing impressive at all. The hell with the only group of human beings on earth that were involved in making this film. You're right.. I didn't complain to Sam about some of the things I disagreed with.. like the recycled footage in the "second trailer". And the " new poster " with Leo landing on the brick wall, and all of the inspiring pictures of Fox holding Ralph's sai.. You're right.. I'm just a blind fanboy. Unlike the blind love for these perfect " cookie cutter" Marvel films that they poop out every year now. Like I said before dude.. 2 1/2 months.
I don't think any TMNT fan is in a position to throw shade at the Marvel movies who are mostly faithful to their source and commercially successful.
I will say this; at the time the alien furor kicked off a lot of people said we needed to adopt a wait and see attitude and I said it was important to make our voices heard so that the powers that are in charge of this movie know loud and clear we weren't happy and make changes.
Now it's too late for that. At this point they are dotting and i's and crossing t's but I still think it's important they know how we feel for future reference.

But somehow it's wrong that you're excited for another movie more than a new TMNT movie? Why is that wrong?
Because for me tmnt was always my fave franchise. For me it's bigger than batman and he man and any other fandom I had throughout my life. It's weird for me to a hardcore tmnt fan and dread to see their new movie and wanting to see a movie about some ppl I didn't know much about until recently.

Likewise if Spider-Man 3 was a huge hit. Do you really want two more sequels of this garbage or someone more qualified to step up and make a better more faithful film.
But Spider-Man 3 was a huge hit ...

I must have missed out on spider man 4 then.

Wait, so every incarnation of TMNT that you don't like is wrong? I don't really like the 80's series or 1990 movie, and I'm a huge tmnt fan... does that mean they're wrong?

It was called "The Amazing Spiderman." And Spiderman 3 remains the worldwide highest grossing spider-man film ever (source (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider-Man_in_film#Box_office_performance)). Franchises can be rebooted for other reasons than box office perfromance, such as in this case, the main director leaving.

The reason there wasn't a Spider-Man 4 is because Sony wanted to put a movie out before Raimi did. And they were putting too much regulation on Raimi. Raimi just wanted to focus on making a good sequel, but he wanted more time to make it then they would allow, so they went ahead and rebooted it.

For Spider-Man... reboots aren't sequels. Batman Begins is not Batman 5.
As for TMNT, I wasn't saying 'every incarnation of the TMNT I don't like is wrong', but as a hardcore TMNT fan, if they're making something I'm not super excited about... they're screwing up somewhere. It would be like making another Batman and Robin-type movie with cheesy lines and nippled batsuits.... and then everyone saying that 'anyone that isn't excited about this movie is not a true Batman fan'. As a Batman fan, I still wouldn't have been looking forward to seeing such a movie.
That's why the strong defense for this movie is a mystery to me. It's like you guys just wanna see TMNT on the big screen no matter how horrible they will make it. I'm willing to bet anything that if the next movie was basically... The Next Mutation the Movie, with cheap costumes, Venus and cartoony sound effects... some of you would still be blindly and violently defending it... and calling anyone that hates it 'not a true fan'.
First of all, I have absolutely no problem with you thinking this movie going to be bad. I understand where you're coming from, and you're opinion is compeltely justified. It in no way affects you're tmnt fandom. You could be a TMNT fan even if you just liked only one version.
However, that doesn't' mean it's wrong. Yes, It does mean they screwed something up, but so has every version of TMNT - and every piece of media ever, because none has been liked by everyone.
Like I said before, about the 80's series and 1990 Movie - I don't think they're wrong, I just think that they're not my taste.
I don't want to defend this movie, I just want to encourage more rational discussion

IM just Seeing anything on the level of which you picture in your head im Sorry !st we have seen enought to Automatically assume its has "cheesy Dialog" We haven't seen anything as ridiculous as "batnipples"
And yes Before going into the theater as a Fan of batman You should have at least given it a chance do you think people just automatically assumed Bm/r was a terrible movie? and are you think its a terrible movie for different reason why other considered it terrible, Because cheesy dialog probably wasn't one of them Have you seen the rest of the series? it chalked full of cheesy Dialog, and Camp.
You equate this is DB:E But i still see turtles I still Splinter I still trained NInjas, I still see foot(ROBOTS W? LAZERS GUNS DUDE), heck Even shredder in the armor look B.A., See the onlu thing Remotely similar is if Shredder never wears the Armor and hes stay a business man and if the turtles didn't live in the sewer,

TCRI that freaking awesome and they actually got it right this time no TGRI BULL
Sam, there is definitely enough information out to have a justifiable opinion. We've had a few minutes of footage, and if he doesn't like the way the turtles look, how a white guy is shredder, the acor for April O'Neil, the director, the producers, then it's safe to assume he will probably dislike it. You, on the other hand, have no problem with any of those, so you probably will like it. And one's pre-opinion on something determines whether or not someone partakes in it. Therefor, you probably will see it, and he probably won't. There is no need to give it a chance if you already can make a good judgment on it.
We haven't seen anything as ridiculous as "batnipples"Um, turtlepecks?

Plus there's more to Shredder than just being some evil guy wearing armor. We don't know if he knows martial arts or has a rivalry with Yoshi. Heck he may not even be called The Shredder in this movie. He could just be some mad scientist who builds himself an exo-suit.

I would think they'd still use the Shredder name. Even they're not THAT dumb. As for turtlepecs, you might as well add thick nerd glasses, loin cloth, bamboo armor, paku beads and ect etc etc to that list. Sure one can spend all day justifying Don is nerdy enough so he should wear thick taped up glasses... but the fact remains he never had them in the comics/cartoons, just like Batman with all his different interpretations never had batnips in the comics either.
After seeing Batman Forever and hearing Shumacher was still on board I was already expecting the movie to follow that route... just not as bad. I had doubts on Mr. Freeze when I heard Arnold was going to play the role since I didn't see him as a scientist.

Exactly. The ONLY thing I saw that was good in the trailer, was the joke at the end. That was clever and honestly could have worked just fine even if they kept the Turtles looking the way they should have. The OT actually did a similar kind of joke.
Everything else was just all kinds of wrong. The main characters look horrible, Leo shouldn't weigh like a ton of bricks, Raph shouldn't be big enough to overturn a truck without any bodily harm to himself, Splinter looks like crap, and I'm not gonna repeat myself on the stupid accessories and non-Foot Ninja.
It's like watching a Batman trailer and he whips out two laser guns and shoots down a bunch of crooks. Does it look awesome? Most likely. Is it Batman? Hell no. And before you mention 'Batman did use guns in his first outings'... well we still haven't seen the Turtles wearing all-red bandanas on the big screen either....

I would definitely watch a leak, no question. Normally I would refrain from doing so but seeing as I'm English I have to wait until OCTOBER 17TH before the film comes out over here. What's with the delay?! It's so annoying! :tcry:

I wouldn't, not even to save money. For one thing it's stealing, another thing, as one poster said way earlier, is that they'll see it as you merely being too cheap to pay for the movie (and thus increase anti-piracy measures) rather then it being a statement on how you feel about the movie.
The only REAL way they will perk up and listen? Complain after a legal (non-pirated) viewing. Even though you've paid them money, complaining lets them know that the movie you've paid to see was crap and why, and that they will lose money if you see (or read a review) that it has that crap again.
Case in point: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen made a lot of money, but people roasted it for it's juvenile sexual humor, questionable robot characters (the Twins) and the vapid acting of Megan and Shia. Reviews were so bad that in the next Transformers film it made them cut way back on the sexual 'humor' (and Bay is known for that stuff) and the Twins were pretty much gone.

I think I'd wait for the thing to come out in theaters. It's fun catching something on the big screen, even for me. Loled at Metalwolf's mentioning of TF2. Hoping TMNT will be better.
I love seeing movies in theaters for the first time, then buying them on DVD later. Seems like movies are somewhat diminished when first seen via someone's DVD player and flat screen TV. Now if you've got a big honkin surround sound system, that theater experience is slightly recaptured. And there are no screaming kids. haha Still, nothing beats seeing something on the big screen for the first time, unless you've got a home theater with all the comforts. Man, what I wouldn't give to have one of those.

I can wait, because eventually it'll leak via HD Web rips by the time of the home video release. The blu ray won't be worth buying unless it's loaded with good features that'll catch my attention.
Although, I do plan to see the film at least once in theaters (midnight release for sure).

It's always a struggle with movies I'm excited about. Especially with so many films releasing a week ahead in Europe they tend to hit online before they make it overseas.
That said....I would contain my excitement and wait for the theater release for 3 reasons:
1.) It's a summer blockbuster. I would be remiss to not experience it firsthand in IMAX 3D.
2.) It is TMNT and deserves my $$. Yeah yeah...Michael Bay...Megan Fox... Caucasian Shredder...grumble grumble *burp* grumble. I get it. I'd be lying if I didn't say I was hoping for more. But I love the resurgence in TMNT all around. If this movie does well fiscally it'll help boost the franchise in all areas for Viacom including the Nick show and IDW publications.
3.) I saw the 2007 movie at Midnight and the buzz in the theater was awesome! I can't help but assume seeing beforehand would diminish the hype factor of a midnight release.
