If this movie comes out and is completly oposite of what you were saying that i would be, how would you feel? If it's bad how would you face those who were saying that it was gonna be bad, would you admit that you were wrong or are you still going try to defend it against an army of critics who don't know what they are saying?
Or what if it's really good? Will you still try to nitpick it to infinity and say "Meeh it wasn't really that good, mediocre at best" or will you swalow your pride and admit that you were wrong and then go crouch under the blanket and cry yourself to sleep?

Well, considering I wasn't one of those people constantly trying to convince people that it might be good, I suppose that if the movie isn't that good, I would feel disappointed, but that's it.
A movie being bad or good isn't the end of the world. I've come out of movies that have been bad and I honestly couldn't be bothered at all. The movie's bad, so what? It's not going to effect me whatsoever.

The people who want to hate it are going to hate it regardless. Same for people who want to love it. I'm excited about the movie but have remained neutral about it since the beginning. There are some choices that seem odd but I haven't seen anything that screams "this movie is going to be awful and a waste of time". Of course it's not going to be a masterpiece and it will probably crap on the origin a bit, but it looks like it will be at least an entertaining film if you don't go into it with a cynical attitude.

I'm excited for the film, nothing I've seen thus far, even as a long time hardcore TMNT fan has turned me off. I'm not whiny arguing small revamps like the turtles wearing clothes that fit their personality, or muscular plastrons are some abomination stain against the franchise.
Or the origin being changed or the main villain being completely reworked. Y'know small changes.

But if the movie is bad, it's bad. Plain, and simple. Won't ruin my day. Nothing is worse than as an even bigger Batman fan having experienced Batman and Robin in theaters.
I'd have no problem admitting if the film is indeed garbage. Me being excited for it doesn't mean I'm declaring in advance that it will be a good film. I have guilty pleasure with Ninja Turtles before. Actually a lot. The vast majority of the franchise has been fun, great nostalgia, but not killer respectable material by any means. As I said, the other movies in the franchise suck beyond the original. This new one can't be much worse than any of those.

More interested in hearing your response to your own question. being that you're someone who wants the movie to fail, hates the marketing, hates the design, and most aspects of the movie. The thing about it is the fact that whether the movie is good or bad will still be a matter of opinion, but at least we can base its success or failure on the amount of money it brings in.
For most of the people who are excited/ optimistic about the movie are generally in the wait and see before making a judgement crowd. Samx is the only one who is truly on the extreme side of homerism, but everyone else who supports the success of the film won't have to put there pride to the side if the movie does suck. I bet they will join in with the nay sayers and give their negative opinions of the movie which is fine because we will have the film out to see and make proper criticism.
Those who are closed minded and negative are the ones who will have to eat crow if the movie is good. Judgement was already made before the movie was out and it leaves them in a position to be completely wrong.

This thread feels like fishing for an argument... and I have no doubt that's where this is heading, so just gonna unload my own answer quickly:
If it sucks I'll off course not pretend it was great, just as little as I'm going to pretend TMNT 3 or The Next Mutation was any good. Wouldn't be fooling any one other then my self. If it's good, then... yay, gonna be a happy camper!

It's gonna be bad. It's just a matter of how bad.
If I do find the movie to be somewhat enjoyable then I can safely say it's bad but not as bad as I thought.
Perhaps it'll be one of those so bad it's good movies like Raul Julia street fighter?

Haha! Love your honesty.
I, if it's good or bad, will voice my opinion in what I like and don't like. I haven't liked everything from this film, and I haven't disliked everything about this film. I'm still hopeful, optimistic, and excited to finally see it.
I never liked the idea of Platinum Dunes, Michael Bay, and Jonathan Liebesman behind the whole thing. And if I don't like what they've done, I'll voice it. However, the direction I see them going, I am fairly positive about. Would I have liked it better if they would've taken a more traditional approach to the whole movie. Why, I probably would. But I'm still open to some change, and I, personally, am okay with some of these changes. I will voice what I truly believe after I get out of the theatre, though.
Just like Amazing Spider-Man 2. Overall, I really liked the movie. I was expecting to really like the movie. Yet, there were some things I really didn't like, and I voiced those as well.

I'm honestly expecting a reboot after this pile of junk bows.
The franchise is far too popular.
I'm guessing once the verdict is in, and fans trash the hell out of it, they'll go the nick route and make an animated feature.
That's if this summer doesn't kill the brand completely.
It's impossible for this film to be enjoyable, on any level, so the posed should be "when you discover how gawd awful the movie is, will you still pretend to like it?"

One thing is I doubt this will kill the franchise. I assume there will be an awesome season 3 to make the fans forget this trainwreck.

You really can't really say it's a train wreck quite yet. How about instead you say: "If this is indeed as bad as I think it's going to be, (based on what I have heard, read and seen about this movie so far), then I hope there will be an awesome season 3 to make all the fans who hate it forget about it."

Based on the trailers and word of mouth, I fully expected to hate Man of Steel. But a week or so back I rented it and truly tried to watch it with an open mind and give it credit for what it got "right". And once it was done... I hated it. :trazz:
I have a feeling that this movie will basically line up with what we expect. A lot of people here will love the movie and a lot will hate it. I don't expect it to suddenly stop being divisive, and I'm not expecting many surprises at this point. We've seen the designs, we've seen the general style, we know the histories of the people involved, we've seen some behind-the-scenes stuff, we know that some of the "Blue Door" draft is still intact, etc...
It's all just a matter of personal taste, and as much as some want to be "vindicated" for their opinions or feelings, there's no need for anyone to gloat or eat crow or whatever - people like what they like or hate what they hate, and that's fine.
I haven't liked a single thing I've seen by Bay or Liebesman, but they do have plenty of fans. If this movie is for that audience, then fine - I'm happy to skip it and hope for something different come reboot time. (Which is inevitable these days.)

True but the trailers still showed superman flying and in a new version of the red and blue. They didn't show superman in an all-red metallic suit firing off hadouken fireballs and saying 'wat up dawg'. It still looked like a modern take on superman. He wasn't super changed or super-accessorized.

I HATE Superman....not just the movie but the character, all around..to the point where i only own and keep a super man shirt because someone gave it to me and asks if i still have it....without going into detail there are so many more interesting characters than him
i actually kinda refused to see this movie because i just dont like superman
but i have 2 (well had 2 down to 1) friends who are die hard supes fans..so for them i downloaded the movie and went in empty headed, pretending i had no knowledge of his past..sure i found my issues with it but i doing that actually let me enjoy most of the film

I agree completely. Although I think they might have a few plot twists in there, maybe a few surprises but all in all.. it comes down to taste. Anyone with an " I toldya so " attitude on either side is just looking for an argument. I also tried to give Man of Steel a chance.. I just didn't like it. It felt very... empty to me. Talk about over exaggerated strength.. sheesh lol. When it comes to this film, it would have to be pretty terrible for me not to enjoy it. I just hope the AMC theatre by my house offers it in IMAX.

I got a prediction here this movie will fall on that spot between decent to good giving folks who support or defend it something to point to and go see while allowing the many Kreskins on here to say see I told you so. My one fear with this flick is going to pull a "Transformers" focus on the humans and the turtles are secondary.

If this movie turns out to be even enjoyable for me at all, I'll be happy. Surprised, but pleased. As it stands, I'm trying to be open-minded, but have little faith. (Gah, does what we've seen of Donnie ever bug me!!) I'd rather keep my expectations low and be pleasantly surprised than have my hopes up and be disappointed.
Truth is, it's highly unlikely that the plot, writing and characterization will be my thing. Even if I can turn my brain off and enjoy it, I'm likely to still find flaws with it. Doesn't mean I'll be nitpicking or looking for things to hate--that's not really my personality. I'm the kind of person who tries to look for things I like, even in less than ideal situations. But I won't hold back or lie about what bugs me, because that'd be silly. I'm not a very black/white, good/bad, amazing/total suckfest kind of person. Most things in life--from people to restaurants to movies and so on--are far more complex or ambiguous, and I'm comfortable with that.

Thing is people who hate on something are the ones that will be the most vocal (which has been proven already). I mean you don't see floods of positive posts when people like something just for the sake of saying "this is awesome".
Thats why negative posts usually outweigh the number of positives, in other words...haters gonna hate. Theres no hiding or switching sides. If the movie sucks haters will be all, Oh I told you so! and non-haters will just be bummed it wasn't as good as they hoped. They're not gonna throw it in your face if its good. Thats the difference.
Have you ever seen a positive/optimistic post on any message board that was over the top enthusiastic, proclaiming greatness like never before? No. Thats just silly.
Only Negative/hate posts use the over exaggeration format. Most of the time anyway...but you can tell the difference between natural disagreement and right out hating.

Why? You're really going to let others think for you by adopting their opinions? Everyone is different so why not find out for yourself? If you practiced this in 1990 you'd probably miss out on arguably the best Turtle material ever created. The critics tore apart the first Live action film did they not? Idk.. Critics get it wrong almost every damn time imo lol.

Well... I don't take the critics opinions on face value. I look at the language and expectations of the critics in the first place of this film or any film for that matter. If they ridiculously expect kids movies and action films to always have some deep, resonate meaning like some indie film than I won't hold much weight on those critics' opinions. It's absurd when critics don't assess a film on its own merit and tone, but expect it to always have some Oscar-winning actors and performances, sometimes yes... a good light-hearted popcorn flick can be just as good as well. (As an analogy, it's just as unfair for food critics who rate a specific Asian dish against a specific Mexican dish without accounting for different tastes/preparation, when they should be leaning more toward rating the quality of a specific, individual entree amongst several restaurants within the same themed cuisine [or same genre if we apply it to movies].) I observe what these critics think is outstanding and what's horrible, and by then I can already get a sense of how strict or lenient their tastes are, especially by the tone in their review if they are not giving the movie a chance with its own storytelling. I look for them to clearly explain their position and expectations, then I can make a much more fair assessment whether I should decide to go and see a film.
In addition, I've observed the expectations of some of the users here for this film, so if they do go out to see the film and rate it, I can more or less get an assessment of what their criteria is for it. If somebody is holding the plot and characters to a higher standard, I'm going to put more weight in their opinion rather than a random fanboy constantly squealing how badass the action scenes were or how superficially cool the Turtles looked.
If I just randomly consumed anything that looked good on the surface (i.e. commercials, trailers, promotional material, etc.) without noticing what a multitude of others thought, I would only have myself to blame for inadvertently contributing to the quality (or lack there of) for a movie. Now if the movie has mediocre reviews and I feel more or less the same about it, I may see it in a second-run theater ($1-3/ticket) or rent it. Furthermore, with movie tickets sometimes reaching close to $10, I think it's advisable for me to be a little cautious with my money.

Uh...actually, Yes. Many upon Many Times.
Where were you when films like The Dark Knight Rises came out? There were Tons of that very same "positive/optimistic posts on message boards that were over the top enthusiastic, proclaiming greatness like never before." You even had people giving critics death threats IF they gave it a bad review...
And there have been dozens of films where I've seen that exact, same thing happen.

@Ramboraph, of course there are fanboys who talk nonsense but in general you see more negative posts because people like saying how much something sucked.
You don't see floods of positive posts trying to convice people something was awesome.
There will be people defending stuff even if said-thing is mostly disliked, there's always a minority group, but its not the same when people hate something.

Went to Dallas with cousin to watch a movie and the ticket prize was 15$ forget the snacks which are like 5$ and up.

Myself, I'll be more than happy to admit if I'm wrong about this movie - I actively want to be proven wrong, I want this movie to rock my face clean off my skull. I want to be the person saying "I was being an overly critical geeklord and I was totally incorrect."
At this stage... I don't know whether I will or not. And I keep trying so hard to keep an open mind about this thing, and overall I do really well, but every so often I crack and go into a bout of hysterical nerd rage.
In all seriousness, if it stinks, I'll pick at it for a while, get it out of my system and then I'll get over it and focus my time and energy on things that I actually like. If the movie doesn't live up to my expectations (which I'm trying to keep non-existent), it won't be the end of the world. If other people like it and I don't, it won't be the end of the world. If it flops, it won't be the end of the world. If it is a mega-breakthrough hit and Bay goes to sleep every night on an enormous pile of money due to this movie... again, not the end of the world.
End of the day, it is just a movie. We'll critique it, we'll have passionate debates about it, but I'm still going to do my best to retain some perspective, and I'm not going to ragequit the planet earth if it turns out to be somewhat underwhelming.

All I know for sure is that ten years from now, the designs for the Turtles themselves are going to be as much of a bad joke in hindsight as the "Batman & Robin" costumes. Anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves. That stuff just screams, "What were they thinking?"
The rest of the movie could go either way, but I'm pretty confident that "The Look" won't hold up for future generations, any more than nipples on the Batsuit, or Superman's Electric Blue Ice Skating Suit from the late-90s comics. And I really wish they didn't make so many unnecessary visual changes to the main characters in a movie that's already a huge gamble.
So nothing's gonna change my mind about the hideous designs. I'm not taking that back, any more than I can contain my hatred of the Batman suit from Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises - not as cheesy terrible as the Schumacher suits, but way too clunky and equally as awful from the complete opposite direction. I still love the movies, but sometimes, now that I know them by heart, during slow spots my brain tells me, "I know it's petty, but this movie would be so much better if that costume wasn't a pile of sh*t."
So, that's really the best I'm hoping for with this TMNT movie: That I'll hate the way it looks but hopefully like the rest of it. Based on what I've seen so far, though... well, the trailers etc. would have to probably be from an entirely different movie for that to happen. It doesn't seem like a movie I'll enjoy. I'm not the audience for it, apparently. But they could surprise me. It would take a lot, frankly, but stranger things have happened.
I will absolutely say so if they do, in fact, win me over. Some of you cats have known me long enough to know, that ain't no smoke. I change my mind a lot. It's probably a moot point, though, as I doubt I'll see it until the DVD release. Right now, I'd have to be making a few hundred bucks more a month to even qualify as "destitute", so I think my decision on seeing it in theaters has already been made for me. :ohwell:

Leo, you just raised an excellent point - as bad as some of us feel the designs are on the new movie, they could ALWAYS be worse. We could have ended up with nipples on the Turtles' plastrons! See good in bad.

I'm hoping Megan Fox provides all the nipples we never knew we needed to see in a TMNT movie. :D
the origin isn't different Seriously SMHHow do you know? Have you seen the movie? I don't think we know enough about the origin to say at this point.

100% this. I'm a broken record with this, but the "classic" TMNT look has endured for a reason, and that's because there's nothing that can really date them. They're simple, but iconic, and really sell the concept well. These ones, though, with the loincloths and shades, the hoodie and shell necklace, the tech gear and whatnot... those things are gonna be dated almost instantly, and are gonna look sillier and sillier as time goes on.

OT, but...
I'm kind of with you here, in that the TDK/TDKR suit was way too busy with little armour plates and "lines" and junk. But I will always give it points for finally letting Batman move his damn head. Slap the separate headpiece idea on a slicker costume and we're in business.

I have to agree with this... it already looks dated! The physical designs of the turts has grown on me since I first saw them and I find them quite emotive (just a liiitle bit to big), but the turtles clothing/accessories... That's just "What were they thinking!" territory still! An awful clutter that looks like it was pulled out of late 90's/early 2000's butt!

To be honest the designs look dated now. Like if Rob Leifeld would think is good.
the origin isn't different Seriously SMH
It's at least somewhat different with April's father and Eric Sachs deliberately experimenting with mutagen and that's before further twists the actors have teased.

I'll still hate the designs and the idea of Megan Fox as April unless she really surprises me with her skill. If it turns out the movie's good and blows me away, then great. I'll get it on DVD. If it's bad, then I won't be getting it on DVD period. Plain and simple. I have low expectations and am just waiting to see the final product.

This right here. I think most of the hater crowd for this movie are hating on it from a place of love. We want it t be good and worth the time to watch but it just looks like a new potential low point for the franchise thus far. Everyone wants a good movie, I think, unless you are just around for the train wreck aspect.
It would be nice if we could at least get a good video game out of it but it seems unlikely at this point. But yeah, would love to be wrong.
