The TMNT site has posted part 1 of a new Kevin Eastman Interview that they have done, He talks about all things TMNT, the 30th Anniversary and the new movie.
http://tinyurl.com/kedb2mw

Here's the part he talks about the new TMNT movie
What is your favorite Bruce Lee movie?

EASTMAN: FISTS OF FURY (1971). I love ENTER THE DRAGON (1973). I love David Carradine’s KUNG-FU (1972-75) television series. I also love animated martial arts. I’m a huge fan of Jet Li’s FIST OF LEGEND (1994). In fact, when I was approached by Jonathan Liebesman for the new NINJA TURTLES (2014) movie we talked about how he wanted to bring that big martial arts energy to it. I suggested that he take a look at FIST OF LEGEND because it doesn’t get any better. It’s a perfect martial arts movie and a tribute to one of my heroes Bruce Lee.
When ever they post part 2, It will have why Kevin thinks Turtles fans are unhappy with the new movie Turtles designs, among other TMNT stuff.

Looks like this interview came out today, too. I was about to post it, but why make another thread?

NUVO: You're working as a consultant on the new Turtles movie.

Eastman: When I originally started working on the movie with the producers, Scott Mednick and Galen Walker, we started about three years before we started working with Michael Bay and Platinum Dunes. So we developed quite a bit of work, and when Michael Bay brought on [director] Jonathan Liebesman - who actually called me last night for some input - we basically sat down and he [Liebesman] said, 'Look, I want to do the best Turtles movie ever. I want to do fight scenes that no one's ever seen before. I want to keep it true to the roots. I want to do something exciting and fresh and give it my own spin, but I also want it to be something the fans can relate to.'

When they brought me on as consultant, I got to throw in my two cents on the script, I did a number of designs; I even got to do a cameo in the film, getting to do my Stan Lee thing, which was kind of fun. I think these guys' hearts are in the right places, and they want to make the best Turtles movie they can make. I'm, for one, pretty excited. I know that they're in rough cut stage, so I look forward to going out and seeing what they've been doing, maybe over the next couple of weeks. But I've seen a lot of footage, and it's really fun, it's different and it's exciting, and I think some of the action stuff is going to be what hopefully blows the fans away. But at the same time, I want them to be the same Turtles that they've loved their whole life! (Laughs) It's been fun.

He also talks about the 30th anniversary issue and the Nick cartoon.

So he didn't really say anything we didn't know or address any of the worries. Just telling how everyone's hearts are in the right places, basicaly the same "it'll be good...honest" that we've gotten throughout.

Nice interview but on the subject of the movie Kevin really didn't offer anything reassuring.

"I want to do fight scenes that no one's ever seen before. I want to keep it true to the roots."

"I think some of the action stuff is going to be what hopefully blows the fans away."

Well, none of the Promotion has shown any hints of that 'martial arts energy', 'action that would blow fans away', or 'fight scenes that no one's ever seen before' (which by the way, how is that possible? I would guess that he means 'never seen in a Turtles movie' but that is certainly not how it was worded...).

And it might sound silly, but when one says 'True to the Roots', what does that necessarily mean? People here have said countless times that each incarnation of the Turtles is different...so if one says 'True to the roots', then what are those roots? The fact it has 4 Turtles, a rat named Splinter, and an April?

Perhaps I was too quick to talk. I assumed the two links posted were different parts of the same interview. I'll give some benefit of the doubt that he might chance directly addressing concerns we have even if in all likelihood it will be pretty much the same as the other interview.

I agree.. I think he has definitely talked about it with the team.. I remember when he said in an interview that if they didn't make it true to the Turtles they would get " F-ing murdered" lol. But it still seems that some don't understand what a NDA is and think that people like Eastman and other actors can come out and shoot their mouths off about details without getting in trouble. I understand that no matter WHAT he says he'll be called a big fat liar. So it doesn't even matter. What matters is what we see on August 8th. People around here have been saying how the marketing sucks and the trailers suck just because they don't get everything they want while "imo" simultaneously contradicting themselves.. Obviously they want more lol. If you watch a trailer and are finding yourself asking for more every single day then... I think the trailer did it's job :D

Here's the part he talks about the movie
One of the things that is so great about you Kevin is how positive you’ve been…There’s so much negativity online about the coming of the new NINJA TURTLES movie. Why do you think people are so focused on the negative in regards to the new TURTLES movie?

EASTMAN: Well, it’s a scary thing. Going back to when I was growing up and reading comic books…There was always different art teams and different writers working on the comics that I loved. If you liked a particular artist or a writer and what they had done, then when you got the next issue, and someone else was filling in for them, it would really frustrate you. Peter and I only did the first 16 issues of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles together before we started having guest artists come in. When we would have guest artists come in they would provide us with different ideas and different interpretations and different looks for the Turtles. We would say, “Well, that’s not exactly how we do it, but that’s really cool.”

When we worked on the first animated Turtles series, we understood that the characters needed to appeal to six-year-old children. We went from producing a black-and-white comic book to a full color animated series. It was Peter who came up with the idea for each of the Turtles to wear different colored eye bandanas. We were now writing for a different audience but we’ve always tried to maintain the feel and integrity of the original characters that we created.

The Turtles have been changed in everything that has been made with them. From the 1990 live-action Steve Barron movie, to the IDW series, to the Nickelodeon animated television series…Each version of the Turtles have had their own look and feel. Some of the Turtles mythology was changed for some of the shows over the years, and that was scary as hell when we were approached with those ideas. When we agreed to those types of changes we were worried that the fans would crucify us. We’ve taken chances with those types of things over the years. But we’ve always been proud of the fact that the integrity, heart and soul of those characters has always been present in every Turtles incarnation that has come over the last 30 years.

That goes for the upcoming NINJA TURTLES movie as well?

EASTMAN: It’s the same approach. When they approached me about the new movie we had 30 years of ideas to look through. I think it’s important to give these new Turtles a different look and feel that sets them apart from what is being done with the Turtles on the Nickelodeon animated series. We wanted to make the Turtles as cool as possible while at the same time creating a new beast onto itself. The script is great for the new movie.

I used to laugh…Every time I would visit Ciro Nieli at the animation studio he would say, “Here comes Obi-Wan”. I would look at what everyone was doing there for the Nick animated series and I would be so blown away that it would make me so excited for what they were doing with the Turtles. It’s the same thing with the new NINJA TURTLES (2014) movie. When I first sat down with Jonthan Liebesman and Michael Bay…These aren’t guys who want to do a Turtles movie for the money. These are very creative guys and their heart is really in the right place with the Turtles. They really want to create good stuff. That’s the most important part of it. If you do good stuff, then hopefully the fans will come out to support it. People are uncomfortable with the look of the Turtles now, but I think they’ll like them once more is revealed. I’m really happy with how the Turtles turned out in the new movie.

So really...it's just "yeah, there have been different stuff in the past. It's kinda scary. But once you see it, it's really cool. Trust us."

So it really doesn't answer anything. How about the questions people want to know? Like is it More of a Turtles movie, or is it more of a Humans movie ala The Transformers films?

And he just briefly mentions the looks...he just says "people are uncomfortable, but I think they'll like them once more revealed."

People aren't Uncomfortable. They just think that the Designs Look Awful. And the Looks are Already Revealed, Kevin...and a lot of folks think they look like Crap.

No. It really just means, TMNT has been tweaked or changed in EVERY incarnation at some point. It's evolution, it's versatility. He's telling whiny fan boys, attached to one version of the characters to get over yourself. If the co-creator is down with the changes, there isn't a reason for fans to be so outraged either.

SwiftNinjaFox

Y'know, despite the apprehension I have for the film and despite this sounding like anything concrete beyond "just wait and see" I'm at least happy to hear his enthusiasm for it and how he relates it to the changes that were scary in the past.

I'm still not sold and I still don't like the new look, but I'm still willing to give it a chance if they show me enough to convince me it will be a solid film.

I have to admit, I do appreciate Eastman's optimism for all things TMNT, though. I may not agree with it all the time, but I really do appreciate it.

The big difference to me is when you get a different art style in the comics, you're stuck with it a few months, maybe a year. When you get a style you don't like in films, you're stuck with it for about a decade. I still don't like Optimus Prime's movie design being so complicated, but I'm going to be seeing it for more than a decade.

There’s so much negativity online about the coming of the new NINJA TURTLES movie. Why do you think people are so focused on the negative in regards to the new TURTLES movie?

You know a big part of what irritates me about the Powers That Be with this movie? This attitude that all of the internet negativity is unwarranted - like we're all just being killjoys for the fun of it, and we're making a big deal over nothing and we should all just shut up.

Why couldn't they have had someone come out and say "You know what guys, the leaked script was crap, we went completely in the wrong creative direction with that one and we're glad that you all care enough about the Turtles to have this much of a strong reaction to it - we're going to make the best movie that we can for you."

Instead of just this high-handed, dismissive attitude of "we rewrote the script, now shut up and stop mentioning it and be happy with everything we give you cuz we know best." If they hadn't given us a reason to complain in the first place, there wouldn't be so much pre-existing skepticism towards the film. We have a legitimate right to be concerned.

Nah, just think a lot of you guy's are irrational, and short sighted.

This is the kind of antagonism that makes things escalate into thread-lockery. Please try to stop making your arguments personal. It's not fair that the rest of us can't enjoy the forums just because some of you can't stop feuding.

It is interesting to read Eastman's thoughts along side Laird's thoughts. With the former being far more invested in the TMNT franchise today than the latter.

One aspect I've grown to love about the Mirage TMNT is the vast variety of artists and stories. But the guest series of Vol. 1 was not all good. It had high points like Michael Zulli and Rick Veitch, but GOOD GOD nobody wanted to read Rich Hedden and Tom McWeeney's vision.

Sweet interview.. So glad we are getting what we are getting. I'm glad that they picked these guys for this movie. I'm glad that my turtles look awesome and that they're gonna kick some royal backside in this film. I watched the first 1990 film today and realized that it's definitely not a masterpiece. It's my favorite TMNT film.. but the fight scenes weren't all that impressive.. The foot barely fought back.. It took like 50 foot to take Raph down lol.. I cant wait to see some real fight scenes with the Foot actually fighting back and the turtles using their weapons. I can't wait to see the expression on their faces during conversations in the new lair. Which is the most amazing lair I have ever seen in a turtle film. Every time I watch the trailer I get chills. For most I'd say.

While I suppose the wait 'till I'm almost 40 to get something possibly better isn't horrible it seems like Bay is not letting go of Transformers, even bucking the recent trilogy trend so unless these movies don't perform well PD could have them for much longer.

Talk about a Faustian bargain Viacom has signed.

Well, if it does good, and spins a trilogy. I may not be into the PD TMNT, but at least we who don't like them will get something in return with the money sprinkling onto projects we can enjoy. Similar like Transformers, hate the movies, but I do enjoy Animated. Prime and Fall for Cybertron, another game I like the designs far better then the movie

and who knows, maybe the story and choreography is great in the PD movie(s), and maybe I personally can enjoy the movies on that premise, despite the creature designs and other changes.

For most I'd say.

Well.. the fan base extends beyond the Technodrome.. I remember there being some kind of vote here in the movie section and from what I remember more people liked what they saw than disliked.. They just don't post in here bc it gets heated so often. I've been all over the internet on different sites.. even the official facebook for the film.. the positives out way the negatives. When scrolling down on an article about ANY movie people seem to have an issue.. Not everyone but most it seems. It's like it's fun for some to trash a movie and make fun of it.. before seeing it. Anyway.. The trailer had 33 million views with 16 thousand dislikes,, but had 82 thousand likes. Some will say " trailer views aren't necessarily a positive.. well.. there definitely not a negative. It means that more people took the time to watch a TMNT trailer than any other trailer out. and IF you can watch it more than once and have it count for TMNT.. you can do it for every movie trailer btw, so lets not pretend that the rules don't apply to all trailers if that is the case :D I remember the backlash all over the internet when the first transformers came out.. then it ended up grossing 708 million bucks. The sequel was announced along with details.. fan outrage everywhere. Did even better  grossing 836 million bucks. With the second being the "worst" and probably has the worst reputation online. So you'd think that with "bad word of mouth" and everyone kicking and screaming over M. Bay destroying the franchise and how terrible and "racist" the second movie was that the third would bomb.. or even be hurt by all of this...... it grossed over a billion dollars  So it may seem like the entire fanbase is raging all over the internet about this new iteration.. the only way to know FOR SURE is to wait and see how the film does. Like i said, yea most people posting in here seem to dislike the film.. they are consistent in saying so. But I see way more positivity on other sites. Esp. the official Facebook page.

Galactus
05-30-2014, 03:28 AM
Well even Bay acknowledges Transformers 2 wasn't a good movie so the money it made and how it led to another financialy successful sequel doesn't mean much.

Sometimes people are gluttons for punishment, sometimes their need to believe the next one will be better is what movie makers rely on.

Puddinpop
05-30-2014, 04:10 AM
Well I cant disagree with some of what you said.. My point is that online complaints don't really mean much when speaking for an entire fan base imo.. they represent a very small portion of people that will end up seeing a film. How it does at the box office imo is a more concrete way of knowing..

Imho judging how a fan base will react to a film before it is released is almost impossible to do " even though I kind of catch myself doing it as well ". These things are very difficult to forecast. But it is my opinion that this film will do very well. That enough of the fan base will embrace it to make it a success, therefore resulting in a trilogy.

Btw a little off topic for a second. I don't know what all the fuss was about with ASM 2.. I just finished watching it and thought the movie was great. I felt let down by Godzilla.. and was blown away by X-MEN DOFP. Imo the best X-men film I've ever seen.

Oh gosh ... that comic was horrible. I felt uncomfortable and dirty, all the while turned off by the utter stupidness (which I believe it was meant to do). But, still, I really ... really didn't like that take. What you didn't like Tom McWeeney's take? You are not a real fan.

Hey Puddin - I'll cheerfully recant if I am wrong, I just hadn't noticed any videos or articles where this has been said - to be fair, I might have missed it though. I'm pretty sure whoever did say any of those things, Bay wasn't among them though. :P (just teasing btw). It's just the overall impression I've gotten so far of their attitude - I freely admit that it's just my perception and my feelings as a fan. *shrugs* That's all.

I wouldn't call the fight scenes a let down outside of Leo being so restricted from using his weapons, but they all used primarily fists and feet because it was still for kids. As for the choreography, you can't fairly assess it today if you don't put it in its place in time.

You do realize, however, it took 50 Foot to take down Raph because they pulled that straight from the comics, right? The only change was it was just on the rooftop and it was Raph instead of Leo. That's now been a story in both Mirage and IDW that Leo takes on dozens upon dozens of Foot ninja solo. They just made it Raph in the movie to emphasize the whole hot head gets him in trouble thing.

I'm still skeptical of how much the Foot can fight back when the turtles appear to be super strong on top of supposedly near master level ninja. :ohwell:

I can't wait to see the expression on their faces during conversations in the new lair. Which is the most amazing lair I have ever seen in a turtle film. Every time I watch the trailer I get chills.

I can't fathom that trailer giving anyone chills. I don't remember the last time any trailer was that emotional and that powerful, but glad you're excited.

The lair looks cool (though still trying to figure out how pizza box couch supports their massive weight  ). One of my biggest disappointments with the original film is we don't have as much behind the scenes stuff as we do these days. There was A LOT going on in that original lair from the few scenes we saw of it. I wish we had some sort of Sewer Lair Tour featurette from that old set to really see everything they put into it. Sadly, it was a different time in film making.

Well I cant disagree with some of what you said.. My point is that online complaints don't really mean much when speaking for an entire fan base imo.. they represent a very small portion of people that will end up seeing a film. How it does at the box office imo is a more concrete way of knowing..

Too true. Forbes predicted Godzilla was going to be a box office flop and cited the positive Internet buzz Scott Pilgrim vs the World had building up to release, yet it didn't perform stellar at the box office. All the positive vibe and trending didn't translate to moolah.

The Internet is a fickle place!

You're probably right that it will get a trilogy. The question is how much tweaking will they get in each movie? The Transformers change a bit with each one. I could see very different outfits each movie for the turtles.

"We gotta sell some toys off this flick."

Btw a little off topic for a second. I don't know what all the fuss was about with ASM 2.. I just finished watching it and thought the movie was great. I felt let down by Godzilla.. and was blown away by X-MEN DOFP. Imo the best X-men film I've ever seen.

ASM2 was good, but I didn't think it was great. It suffered very badly from probably one of the worst character development arcs for Electro imaginable. I wonder if there's more to his development from hero worshiper to villain than we saw. There was a petition out there for Sony to release a director's cut on blu ray since so much in the trailers was not remotely seen in the release.

Days of Future Past may not have tied up every loose end and may still have left some continuity errors it couldn't address, but definitely the best X-Film so far. Hoping Fox and Singer embrace Marvel Studios success in comic book costumes on film for Apocalypse. I liked the blue/dark yellow/brown on Wolverine's costume as a nod towards that while still keeping the more grounded armor/black thematic of the original trilogy. Apocalypse, being altered timeline, has free reign though!

They have come out and said these things. It just falls on deaf ears every time... Watch some of the videos that have been posted around here. These things are being said over and over and over and over and over again but these same questions get posted  ill never understand it

When have they ever said the original script was bad? Michael Bay has said it was an old one from before his team came on board and wasn't the one they were using.

Then the trailer and toy sets show they're using a lot of it. :P

It's all good.. you have said some extremely nice things on here to people that have not been so nice..

It may not be in the same exact words but I think they have tried their best in some cases. I also think that with the people involved.. they never had a chance anyway. Here are some things that I took as them trying to calm worries.

Bay
“There was that quote saying that we’re making [the Ninja Turtles as] aliens. We’re not. It’s the ooze! It’s from the original source material. These are from the original writers, and I never went out to correct myself in the press. I do listen to the fans and I do want this to be authentic. I think they’re going to be really happy with this movie. When I see the digital stuff, the turtles look great.”

Bay
Paramount marketing changed the name. They made the title simple. The characters you all remember are exactly the same, and yes they still act like teenagers. Everything you remember, why you liked the characters, is in the movie. This script is being developed by two very smart writers, with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles. They care VERY MUCH about making this film for the fans. Everyone on this team cares about the fans. Just give them a chance. Jonathan the director, is a major fan of the whole franchise. HE'S NOT GOING TO LET YOU DOWN.

K. Eastman.. this ones for you Leo
“[I'm doing] sketches, drawings and character designs, bouncing stuff around with the writers, talking with the director and the producers — I’m actively involved… [What] they’re doing with the movie is creating its own story, but it has to be true to the source material or we’ll get f***ing murdered. To be blunt.”

Bay
“The leaked script for Ninja Turtles that different sites continue to comment on was written well before I, or anyone at Platinum Dunes, was involved with the project.

That script saw the shredder a long time ago.

This one from Eastman, I posted it a page back
When I first sat down with Jonathan Liebesman and Michael Bay…These aren’t guys who want to do a Turtles movie for the money.

Then there is this interview from Liebesman that has been posted many times before that I think is sincere. http://youtu.be/6BwLC4eTv8A

I just think they have tried multiple times to respectfully calm fears but lets not pretend " judging by some of these posts around here calling everyone involved a bunch of liars in some cases " that it makes any difference. Some folks are just bent on negativity and will dismiss any effort made by these guys to set the record straight. So imo.. why bother at this point. The only thing that will shut people up and eradicate these "qualms" is to put out a good film, and we won't know until August 8th.

Edit: Swift, Why would a director or a producer throw a still involved writer under the bus like that? Why would they come out publicly and call one of their writers drafts " terrible" when they still have them on board?

And believe it or not.. some people have such a huge heart for the Turtles and have waited so long to see them brought to life like this that they get chills watching the trailers. I've read that from a lot of people online. I've quoted one in my sig. from IMDb. It was an amazing thing to read and I understood exactly how the poster felt bc I felt the same way. Let the cynics make fun of it all they want lol. It's more fun to like something than it is to hate it imo. Not everyone hates what they've seen. Not everyone feels the same.

Hey, as I've said before, I see no reason not to get along with everyone here regardless of which parts of the franchise they do and don't like - I'd hope that nobody thinks less of me for liking NM, just as I wouldn't think less of them for disliking it. The world would be pretty boring if we all thought exactly the same way and liked exactly the same things.

As far as the quotes you've referenced, I do understand how you've interpreted it as respectfully trying to allay some of our doubts. Again, I think a big part of it is probably just the way I interpret/perceive things - I'm a very plain talker and I do feel that some of their comments about the negative fans are somewhat dismissive. Not saying that's how they meant it - for reasons best known to themselves, the Blue Door writers are still on board the project and they're obviously trying to be PC about it - it's just how it's come across to me.

Not to speak for Pennydreadful but the quotes are not really an answer to his/her post, was it.

No one has ever actually said that their original plans were not the right direction and that they've changed them. There's been a lot of fancy double talk to skirt around the issue and some flat out denials from Bay that the script or the turtles as aliens was ever the to do with them.

If they'd simply been honest and upfront in that way I think it would have earned them a few points with fans but they've resorted to lying and telling us "it's good...honest":ohwell:

Edit: Swift, Why would a director or a producer throw a still involved writer under the bus like that? Why would they come out publicly and call one of their writers drafts " terrible" when they still have them on board?

I find this comment interesting as a lot of the movie's defenders on here seem to talk as if the people involved in this movie are so earnest that the suggestion that they may say positive things about it and be somewhat economical with the truth because they are involved in it as outlandish and hurtful.

No one is suggesting that that they bluntly admit that the Blue Door script was garbage but rather concede that it was the wrong direction and that they've changed it but the fact that they are incapable of doing that suggests that things haven't changed as much as people are hoping.

Nemec still being the main writer and a lot of concepts from that leaked script still being present is not a good sign.

This is a board dedicated to talking about every facet of TMNT and a lot of members have been doing so on a daily basis for years. I'm not saying those who haven't are not "real fans" but it does seem weird that there are a lot of people coming out of the woodwork insinuating that we don't care as much about the franchise because a lot of us aren't enthusiastic about this movie.

It's because we care that we want it done "right". Don't get me wrong I know full well that I'm not going to get a "Return to New York" or a "City at War" based movie or "The River" based movie but there is a good middle ground between the usual big budget movie style and faithfulness to the source and a lot of the comic book franchises are finding it and being very successful (in my opinion) because of it and it's rather sad to me this movie is going in the other way.

I think a big part of what's rubbing some people the wrong way with this this movie - and I could just be speaking for myself here - is that I have no idea what kind of tone they're trying to go for, and because of that, I don't know how to assess what they're giving us.

We're getting realistic modern-day military Foot... but a Turtle Van that does not exactly scream stealth.

We get "realistic" Turtle faces... but outfits that wouldn't work in a real-life combat situation.

We're being promised Raid-style martial arts sequences... but then we get the clip where Raph meets Humvee, which IMO is quite cartoonish.

I just don't understand whether they're going for a lighter, more "camp" approach, or a more serious, gritty take - and based on that, it's really hard to evaluate what we've seen thus far when we don't know where the bar's supposed to be set. It gives us no real context for evaluation.

I don't mind whether the tone of the movie is camp or gritty - it still has the potential to be good or bad whichever they go for - I just want some consistency. *shrugs* Just my two cents.

Yea.. but it's hard to tell what tone and context we'll be getting when we've only seen 90 seconds. So I could understand that but I don't know why it would rub anyone the wrong way.. It's like some people want to know everything without actually seeing it. Not you, but some are just being totally unreasonable and unrealistic with their expectations of the people involved. I think they expect the film makers to actually be superhero's. Would they ever ask any other production team to come out and beg for forgiveness and answer every little question and calm every little qualm before release? It's insanity around here  After we see the film we'll be able to assess it more and understand what they were going for. Some people will dislike it and some will love it.. At this point I don't know what else to say. I'm honestly drained.

We're getting realistic modern-day military Foot... but a Turtle Van that does not exactly scream stealth. I think they look like "Foot Soldiers". Half ninja/covert assassins/mercenaries half soldier. I think it's a nice update. I love that they seem to have different ranks of foot.. Maybe some not human or robotic? I'm not sure yet.. The turtle van.. I haven't seen it in action yet... I would love it if they went the Nick version and have them inside with no windows looking at monitors. In the first film they were in the streets out in the open all the time.. especially at the end of the film. SOTO had them dancing at an Ice concert.. So I really think it's all in how they go about it.

We get "realistic" Turtle faces... but outfits that wouldn't work in a real-life combat situation. But we haven't really seen any combat sequences yet.. and if they do it right it could work.. Donnie is the only one that might have an issue but in the trailer he looked like he was movin just fine to me. I'm not sure if they'll be wearing their gear threw the entire film either. I don't think everything has to be practical in a movie like this. A lot of films do this.. have realistic graphics but incorporate things that wouldn't be "practical" in a real life setting. The Raccoon in Guardians looks very realistic.. but carries a friggin machine gun that is bigger than he is . We can pick apart a million films thinking like this. I don't think I should treat this film any differently. I don't fault anyone that expects everything to be logical and or practical in a TMNT film but I think some take it a little to far.

We're being promised Raid-style martial arts sequences... but then we get the clip where Raph meets Humvee, which IMO is quite cartoonish. I think that clip kicks ass though lol. Raph is a pissed off brut. He has a ton of aggression. He's a 300+ pound badass traveling at a high rate of speed down a mountain and decided to just muscle into the side of the Humvee like a boss. Imo it fits Raph's persona. No it didn't go rolling down the mountain or smash to pieces like some people say.. the Humvee was on a hill when he hit it and he smashes the door in exploding the windows out. As for the fights.. when I saw the small clip of Donnie and Mikey fighting in the Lair I thought it looked like it was gonna be a good fight scene. I highly doubt they would not include some badass fight sequences. Liebesman pushed the date back to make sure the fight scenes were done right. They hired some seriously talented martial artist and stunt doubles and I'm pretty sure they'll be utilized. If you've seen the videos in the "TMNT stunts" thread it is pretty impressive. They don't seem to be playing games lol. I have faith.

I just don't understand whether they're going for a lighter, more "camp" approach, or a more serious, gritty take - and based on that, it's really hard to evaluate what we've seen thus far when we don't know where the bar's supposed to be set. It gives us no real context for evaluation.Again, it is very hard to evaluate a film when you've only seen 90 seconds of it. I don't find any reason to see that as a negative though.. This is why I just want the damn thing to come out already lol. It's like the longer we wait the more rambunctious and pessimistic some fans get it seems.. What do you mean about not knowing where the bar is set? With Avengers and other superhero films I think the bar is set pretty high. The first film set the bar for the franchise in my opinion.. But this is a different world.. they didn't want to do anything that has already been done before. And I try not to make comparisons to other films when making a final judgment. For me it's like, looking at someone else's car and saying.. my car sucks bc that one is nicer. It ruins the fun of it. If that makes any sense lol. But tone and context.. these are things that we'll have a better picture of very, very soon.. It looks to me like a more gritty take. The joke at the end gives me hope that their signature personalities remain intact. That is very important to me. More so than having Raid style fights.

I don't mind whether the tone of the movie is camp or gritty - it still has the potential to be good or bad whichever they go for - I just want some consistency. *shrugs* Just my two cents. No I agree 100%. I hope that it isn't all over the place. I want a solid consistent film. I have faith that we will get one. I just.. want it to figgin get here already.. I enjoy speculating about it and having discussion "when it's people like you" but I am tired of having questions.. I want answers. It's been long enough. I hope these next two months don't draaaaag

Yea.. but it's hard to tell what tone and context we'll be getting when we've only seen 90 seconds.

I think part of the problem is not just that we've only seen 90 seconds of the film thus far, but that the 90 seconds they've chosen to show us haven't really been very overwhelming - or likely to allay doubts (speaking purely for myself here). I don't expect the powers behind this to crawl on their bellies through broken glass to make up for the Blue Door script, but when we're getting a Turtles movie with a troubled production history that has a lot - a LOT - of changes in it, understandably it's going to make some people skittish and I don't know that a trailer with most of the talking being done by Fichtner is really the best way to do damage control.

At the end of the day, that's what was needed for this movie to avoid the levels of pessimism that are currently being levelled at it - a good PR campaign, decent posters, some character spots, fun promos and something that lets the doubters know that even if the Turtles look different, they're still the same guys we know and love... to me, that would've made a big difference.

I kind of look at it this way - if it were a company selling a product (which in a way, it kind of is, but follow me here) - when a company gets bad PR over a product, they generally do some type of campaign to minimise brand damage. Whether it's sneakers, a soft-drink, a children's toy... advertisers know that it's their job to make us want their product. I don't understand why they're not trying to win over some of the people who have doubts - it makes me feel like they don't care whether I see it or not.

Which is not to say that I imagine that Bay, Liebsman and co are sitting in their gilded Hollywood tower somewhere, sipping distilled nerd tears like a fine vintage wine. I don't feel that the powers behind this movie "owe" me anything - because they don't. It's their money, their movie, they can do whatever they want with it.

Hey, I definitely agree with you - we haven't seen any combat sequences. I definitely don't need everything to be practical either. And while I wouldn't want them to spoil a bunch of the major fight scenes, it would've been nice to have seen something. I'm more of a "show, don't tell" kind of person - I don't want to be told that these Turtles are like nothing we've ever seen before and that the fight scenes are great: I want to be shown that.

Like another poster (I can't remember who) said, if they'd done a marketing campaign along the lines of "The Foot Wants You To Join!"... there could've been leaked Foot training videos (which could've shown us some action to get us excited without actually spoiling anything), posters/flyers, real urban underground kind of stuff... and then they could've chimed in with some silhouetted Turtles posters or maybe some grainy footage of a street-fight between the Turtles and some of the foot - nothing high-quality, just something to build a bit of anticipation. There are so many ideas for things that they could have done, I just don't understand why they're sitting on their hands.

Sorry, I might not have phrased that part well - I meant where they're setting the bar in terms of the tone that they want to achieve for the movie. :)

But tone and context.. these are things that we'll have a better picture of very, very soon.. It looks to me like a more gritty take. The joke at the end gives me hope that their signature personalities remain intact. That is very important to me. More so than having Raid style fights.

Having decent characterisation is definitely a major thing to me, and will ultimately contribute to what makes or breaks the movie for me. As I've said before, the new faces creep me out - but if their personalities sell it, I could definitely get over the shock and maybe it wouldn't be as much of an issue for me.

I think another thing that's making it hard for the faces to be accepted is that we've seen so little of them - it's a really big change and it's kind of hard to get used to. Again, this is where a trailer with more Turtles (rather than Fichtner and Fox) in it, would've been really helpful.

I'm with you - I want it to be a good movie. Really really really. And for the people who are excited - I envy you, I do. And I don't want to take that away from anybody, at all. I wish I could feel the same - I just don't. Maybe I just need different things to get excited about.

And I am very tired of waiting for it to come out also - it seems like it's been foreeeever... and I'm an instant-gratification kind of person so this wait is killing me! But yeah, calm discussions are good. We should have more of them. :)
