There are pages "like the one I posted" that only have images. Id like to see Donnie..
But your comment would be rather useful in other threads lol. Every time something gets released it's "why didn't they show us this? why didn't he answer this question? why didn't we see any fight scenes?"
But I understand.. me asking for a flat page is a bit to much to ask for.

I love the way they look, but Splinter looks totally different in the trailer so Im kinda confused. I definitely dont see a fu man chu moustache here. I also think the Shredder arm blades look a little big crazy. All in all Im excited for this movie...and I cant wait for a full trailer!

They must have changed Splinter's design when they realized he wasn't covered in enough junk or cliches to identify him as vaguely Japanese. So we get this instead:

The book seems interesting, but I think at this point I'd be more interested in some kind of tell-all book about what the thought process behind a lot of the decisions that were made in putting this movie together from the original script to casting and on.

I seriously dont get this way of thinking So dressing in TRADITIONAL Kimono(which splinter first wore in the wolf series) is a bad thing and over the top.
Kimonos are the traditional clothing of japan, sure take the hakama pants off and its fine, but give him those and its over they top GUH. What ever

Ditto this - I love finding out behind the scenes stuff, especially on movies which had troubled production histories - like The Island of Dr Moreau, or Alien 3.

Well since the action figure looks like what we got in the .5 second shot of Splinter in one of the numerous teasers, that's probably what we're getting and this image was just an early concept design.
Sadly.

Maybe Splinter will appear as both versions in the film? He doesn't have to look the exact same the entire movie. He can easily switch robes and untie his hair, then he'd look about like that concept art.
What I will say is that if they don't use that concept art AT ALL for the film then the people calling the shots on which designs to pick have no f*****g clue what they are doing. Choosing something simply because it's different is bull you should pick what looks and works BEST.

And the turtle jewelry he's wearing for some reason.
See, the issue I have with these designs seems to follow a specific kind of "taste" across the board - everything and everyone has to be bigger, more extreme, and more blatant. The Turtles have to be giants bogged down with layers of "expressive" custom gear, Splinter needs to look like a total stereotype with the fu manchu and the topknot, and Shredder goes from being a deadly ninja with some pieces of bladed armour to essentially a knife-covered Iron Man knockoff, to the point where he's got a cape made of blades.
(The initial Splinter design posted here actually looks terrific, but clearly they've ditched that look for something far worse.)
TMNT has always had ridiculousness at its core. The title itself owns it, and for a purpose. But at its best, it's also shown surprising amounts of restraint and subtlety. There's nothing remotely subtle about these designs. They're loud and garish, for the sake of being loud and garish. And in some cases (IMO) they seem to completely miss the point of these characters and their appeal.

As much as I am excited for this movie, and even though I think I will enjoy it once it comes out... I have to completely agree with you. I just wish everything was as simple as, for my preference, the '87 cartoon. It doesnt have to be, all of them, only wearing red masks like the comic, but I dont really feel that all this overabundance of size, accessories, facial detail is really needed.
I sure hope in the next few weeks a full trailer comes out that can really showcase what this movie is all about, and maybe then it will all make more sense...I Hope!

I'm kinda okay with most of the characters/creature designs when I disregard what they are wearing, but then... Jeeze, who dressed these guys up?! There's too much of everything! Splinter is the most okay one (tho I prefer the simpler style in the concept art), the turtles are varying degrees of messy and out dated and Shredder... particularly not liking what's going on with his lower body half! He BETTER be an utrom if this is what the design will actually be in the movie, otherwise the mecha-legs are just so out of place!
On a side note: The turtle marquette's (which we see better photo's of in the book) look amazing and incredibly detailed, very well crafted!

I dont see how William Fichter's character could possibly be in that suit. It looks huge! Just looking at the picture with nothing else around him, it looks like the person would have to be Henry Cavill to fill it.
I was also trying to make out the text to the right of Shredder and it looks like it might have some info for the movie, wish we could see it all.

Agreed. I'm excited for this movie, but this has always made me sort of 'iffy'. I would've preferred a much more traditional approach with this movie, especially with the designs, but that alone won't turn me off. I've come to accept this take on the turtles, and after I accepted it, I've started to like it. Plus, this is only one version of the turtles, as I've said. It won't ruin other incarnations, so that's why I try to stay open to future versions before I fully experience them. That's when I make my final conclusion.

That could've been cool - like if he looked more like his concept art when he was younger. The back view that we've seen in the trailer and what I suspect he'll look like based on his action figure is still not a good end result though.
Sometimes an uncharitable part of my brain wonders whether they made all of these additions to Splinter to try to compensate for white Shredder.

I actually think it's the other way around. I think it's some of the fans that won't let the nineties go. Bay and company seem to be "updating/changing" everything that people have been used to for years. But as the times change so will design. I don't blame people for the way they feel. But I do think that some of it is nostalgia.

I don't think this is about nostagia at all but more about change for the sake of change. There's a difference between updating with the times and adding on needless additions and I would call what bay and co are doing to these characters the latter. It does bring back a lot of memories of 90s comics where every new character that was created had tons of gear and existing ones had to get an exteme new look and/or a power upgrade because... well at the time they just thought it looked cool.

Gee that must be why the new cartoon and comics are so popular and well-received.
Because people are stuck in the past.
Got NOTHING to do with maybe they kinda sorta just don't like the unnecessary and bad changes/decisions the people behind this movie have made.

O it is definitely about nostalgia.. in some cases.. not all but I think it's safe to say that people are used to and miss the old look from the first film. They are emotionally attached to it and feel the need to protect their favorite childhood cartoon by insulting the makers of a new film bc they've forgotten what it means to be a child.
Now I understand the opinion of "change for the sake of change" but that's just an opinion as of now. It is not a fact as of yet.. maybe after people see the entire film and learn it's context and tone there will be reasons given for these changes.
Like I said.. I'm not doubting that people strongly dislike these designs for reasons having nothing to do with nostalgia.. But judging by SO MANY of the comments on here and other sites like Facebook, Twitter, Comicbook movie etc. it is obvious that there are a lot of people stuck on what was. I read a lot of " why couldn't they just use the old suits" and " nothing will beat the classic look" and " why do they look so different " posts everyday. It's not always the case.. But it's definitely the case with some.
Edit for Trick: Saying that nostalgia hasn't played a role at all in why some people have an issue with these new designs is ridiculous. Yup.. what nostalgia
There's a difference in with the cartoon Trick... People have seen it for 2 years now.
People went nerd rage just like they are doing now with this.. and then when it came out a lot of them changed their toon. I suspect the same will happen here. The people hating on this film will have no effect on its success :D

I'm sure there's a segment of people who don't like this because they're nostalgic for what they remember from childhood. There always is when something that's been around for a long time gets a makeover. But I think the majority don't like it for more in-depth reasons that have nothing to do with being stuck in the past. Just looking at those examples of comments you posted I see other interpretations than people just nostalgiaing hard. questioning why they didn't use the suits doesn't sound nostalgia motivated to me but more like arguing practical effects vs cgi. and honestly nothing ever likey will beat the classic look that's why its, well, classic. its spanned generations, its universally recognizable, its iconic. Fact is when characters have looked a certain way for decades and so many people have formed attachments to them in that time no reinvention is going to stick for long. you see it all the time with superheroes. no matter what new look they take on or the reason behind them doing it sooner or later they always go back to the classic. the only changes that ever stay around are updates that help characters fit into modern day and the beauty of the design of the turtles and their supporting cast is that its so simplistic it can pretty much fit into any time period as is.

the multi colered hand band look can pretty much be considered the classic look because that's what the turtles looked like when they gained pop culture notoriety. heck to this day its mostly only dedicated fans and people who follow comics history that know they all started out wearing red. the first time I saw the different shades of green thing on anything other than the toys was on turtles in time on super Nintendo.you could switch the style of the turtles from animated to comic in the options and you would get the different shades and the all white eyes. when I found out how closely 2k3 was inspired by mirage I just figured the different shades of green was how they would look if the comics were in color

well it's understandable.. but I stand by what I said.
There were a lot of complaints.. esp. with the design.. people were trashing Donnies gap in his teeth.. but im sure some of them changed their minds afterwards. After seeing the show with their personalities.. I think once people see this play out on screen some may come around.
To be fair, I was one of the people freaking out over the Nick designs initially (primarily the Jason Biggs casting, the third toe and changing Donnie and Mikey's weapons slightly)... and in retrospect, I was totally wrong and being ridiculous - there was absolutely nothing to worry about and I feel so silly every time I think of it now!
And hey, I would love to be proven just as wrong by the new movie... but I feel that a lot of the stuff we're being given is a tough pill to swallow. For me personally, my own reservations about the movie are basically a conglomeration of a lot of different factors - the numerous changes that they're making, the bad marketing, casting which I'm not wild about, a producer and production company whose films I generally don't go for, the leaked script and the lack of damage control afterwards... etc etc.
I'm the kind of person who does overanalyse and obsess over things. And I am emotionally invested (or maybe "attached to" would be a better word choice) with the characters that they're playing with here, so sometimes I do have to struggle to keep objective. I just keep feeling so disappointed with the decisions behind this movie - even more so when I start remembering things that I did get kind of excited about initially (the lair photos, the maquettes - which were definitely a shock but were a vast improvement over what I feel we currently have).
TL;DR - I'd love to be proven wrong and to end up not minding the designs so much... but with the way things are playing out, I'm not sure whether it's going to happen.

I understand, I can't blame you one bit.. I overanalyze as well.. I just can't help it though.. I love what this movie has shown me so far. I think the marketing team should be **** canned, but as for everything else.. I couldn't be happier. I also love the Lair and I'm looking forward to seeing them interact in it. I know there's a possibility of them screwing this thing up.. but I have faith in them and I think they're actually going to surprise a lot of fans.

Same difference, honestly. Let's not argue semantics. It's certainly not a dramatic redesign of the turtles as some overly nostalgic, or rigid minded fans happen to act. The "tweaks" are till faithful to the essence of how the TMNT should look. Nothing dramatic, or egregious has been done to them. But this has been argued, discussed a thousand times before.
ill agree to disagree on how dramatic or egregious creation tweaks are but I wouldn't call it an update. an update removes dated aspects of a character while maybe adding things better suited to modern day. I don't think there's much of anything about these designs that help them fit into 2014 but then again the old ones weren't exactly dated.

High-Five.

The redesign and drastic changes of the turtles were actually harder for me to swallow than something like Shredder, who had also had a drastic makeover.
Mainly because there's a reason the TMNT the way they are in every iteration, in every version. They're small, skilled martial artists, not necessarily human looking, teenage mutant turtles. This isn't exactly the way they are being portrayed in this new movie. It was a hard pill to swallow, but when I looked at this movie as it's own take on the characters, it's own version, something that didn't have to exactly mesh with the things that came before it, I became a lot more open to this movie. That realization was like getting some water to help me swallow that pill, and I'm going to go into the theatre and enjoy the movie for what it is.
Shredder, however, I'm still iffy about. What's his whole story? What's up with this? Why is he huge? Is he Ch'rell (I actually really want to see that)? Or is he Super Shredder? Or...? Not sure if I'll like it as much as a more traditional approach, but that's fine. And I'm definitely am more open to changes with Shredder than with the turtles, probably because he's just one villain. The turtles are the turtles, but Shredder can come and go, and we can see a new villain appear down the line. Basically, not as bothered, because I'm not sure Shredder's look, armor, or character will be as permanent as the turtles.
Bottom Line: ...there actually is no bottom line, I think I'm just stating my opinion for the sake of stating my opinion ... this post really didn't have to do with anything at all

I still have a problem with the movie even when I think its a new take on Ninja Turtles. There are some things you just dont change. Just look at all the mvies that are coming out that stay trues to their comic/cartoon storys. Xmen, Spiderman, Superman, Batman, list goes on, are all good examples of them not changing things that should not be changed. Its very important to keep some things like they were in the comics/cartoons. I think they messed up big time in the Ninja Turtles case. Should of kept them and the story more original.

Foot Soldiers are robots/lower-level ninjas but Shredder is a professional SOB, theoretically he is more trained than the turtles (which are teenagers, never forget this), maybe at the level of Splinter or higher, but with much more evil, which makes him too dangerous to face one on one. He's a killer, he don't want to put down the turtles, his goal is to kill them.
:D when the turtles fought against him in the first movie, Shredder put them to sleep in one-hit KO. Remember that? And back then he wasn't in the Super-Shredder version...he was still Oroku Saki with a metal mask on his face!! That is his "normal" power...
And yes, you can still shot at him with a rifle and he's dead. :tlol:

I always liked that concept of Saki, that he was so much a better fighter than the turtles and only Splinter could take him one on one. It's what made him a real threat. I liked how the original series handled it, where in most of the early seasons, Shredder in direct combat with the turtles always ended with him coming out on top, and only Splinter being able to go toe to toe with him and succeed. It wasn't until late in the series where they could finally stand up and fight him without Splinter. I always considered it kind of an accidental character development in the old series.

Exactly - the Shredder is dangerous because of sheer skill and ruthlessness, not because of gimmicks like a goofy mech suit. In the 1990 movie, he barely even used his armour/blades - and he easily defeated all four turtles with a simple spear. In "Return to New York", Saki specifically took off his helmet and blades -- and even his shirt! -- to fight... and he still nearly killed Leonardo.
Meanwhile, Eric Sachs needs to weld about 200 knives to a Mk.I Iron Man suit in order to fight? Weak.

Yeah, it is weak. 1990 was perfection as far as live action. Perfection. Perfect build, super elusive, cruel, ruthless and an amazing fighter. He would have killed the Turtles AND Splinter if he didn't lose his mind seeing Splinter. That's what did him in, not his fighting.
I almost **** my pants when this came on screen. I have a feeling this Shredder will be doing a lot of sitting down and giving orders before getting involved. I guess Shredder did in the original but there was no question that he was Shredder.

Which is exactly where I stand. I really despise Shredder being a Utrom. I think it takes so much away from the real backbone of the TMNT origin. Saki and Yoshi's feud is the catalyst that started it all - a human fight....a jealous rage, a former friendship, etc. All of that is so good. Once Saki became a Utrom in 2003 (and now in the movie), all of that went/goes to waste.

Yeah there is a difference.
Some people were upset about some of the voice decisions, the cg, and the three toes thing, I believe.
From what I recall, that's about it.
Vaaaaaaaaast difference compared to everything this movie has going against it.
I hated the 3 toes - and still do (no reason to change it, really) but I love the show. That is a tiny change that, in all honesty, does nothing to take away from the overall design or characters in the Nick series - which IMO, proves the point that changing the design was pointless and unnecessary. Change for change's sake.
I had questions about Mikey's voice before we heard the real deal. That said, the voice cast is awesome on the Nick series. Every character is pulled off and sounds more or less like they should. No complaints there.
I agree with TrickorTreater here - any complaints we all had going into the Nick show pale in comparison to the valid concerns we now have regarding changes in design, origin, story, decisions on casting, VO work, etc. With that said, this movie may turn out to be decent or even great, but I think it's a pretty common theme that most fans (whether casual or die-hard) are very concerned with the final product of this movie, to put it mildly.

Just watched "The Gauntlet" episode of TMNT 2012 today, and when Shredder fought the turtles on the rooftop he shot out what looked like 3 foot long blades out of his arms to fight the turtles. I bring this up because I keep reading all the hate on this movie and yet I keep coming across things in current versions of the turtles that go against the things I hear people complain about.

Weak.
Ok, dude that was in 1990 and that was saki who fought turtles in rubber suits.
This is 2014, sachs as shredder in a mech suit (IMO over the top but looks Badass) going up against bigger turtles in CGI live action.
Just as in 2k3, when shredder was an alien blob ch'rell, in a robot body posing as saki.
Different era, different incarnation, same franchise see it first then judge. One thing is for sure, shredder will over power them only to be defeated at the end, no matter how over the top he is it will balance out. He'll kick ass and then get his ass kicked and hopefully be awesome.

Uh what about all the current and recent versions of Shredder being human ninja master Oroku Saki?

And what about Shredder having 3 foot blades popping out from his suit and a center sword that retracts in and out when he has Leo up against a wall with his head between the 2 3ft blades?

What about it? I'm not a huge fan of nick Shredder's forearm and shin armor. Too big and bulky for my taste. Makes it look like Popeye Shredder in bell bottoms.
Even though this is one of my favorite iterations of Shredder in general.

Isn't having two retractable blades built into gauntlets on your are different from having about 4 built into your exo armor

While it's a bit overkill to have all those blades shooting out from his wrists like a hulked out Wolverine but it beats the hell out of the Colonel Schrader character with spikes and blades shooting out everywhere.

I understand what you're saying but 3ft gauntlet blades With a center retractable sword blade seems a bit over the top, and while I understand how easy it is to link Iron Man to this new Shredder, I think that this isn't the only extreme version.

And what's your point? did I exile them from existence or something?
The point I was making is that there are different versions of shredder. Asian (saki), alien (ch'rell), and now white (sachs). All in different eras as well, the 2014 version apparently has him in a mech suit.
Tot we get it guy, you dont like the movie or anything different. You don't want the movie to succeed yet you cry about bad marketing which should make you happy bc bad marketing would hurt the movie. doesnt make sense.
Ok Tot you're supposedly not going to see the movie or "pay to see it." But you spend hours looking through set photos and trailer footage piecing things together to write a long synopsis for a movie your supposedly don't care for.
I don't mind difference of opinions but your whole stance is shaky and blasphemous.

I don't think you know what blasphemous means.
Anyway, it's not hard to look at set photos or watch a minute 30 trailer and figure out plot points. Doesn't take much time. I'd be here anyway because I like the Turtles.
I'm not complaining about the bad(or lack of up to very recently) marketing. I find it funny.

Very interesting your not a "fan of it" but it's your favorite iteration of him. Hmmmmmmm I'm starting to see a pattern here guys.

we're talking about your love for something you "hate."
The energy and time you spend on something you don't care for. It doesn't take long to figure out plot points, but why are you trying to figure out plot points? You're more excited for this movie than I am. Surely someone as smart and witty as you has more things to do than invest time and emotion in a movie they don't care for. honestly I don't think you have any idea in what you talk about because it's conflicting.

Both James Saito (the first cinematic Shredder) and William Fichtner (this film's Shredder) appeared in Michael Bay's film Pearl Harbor (2001).

It's a shame Bay didn't keep James Saito's number. I wish we could get him again for Shredder.
