When I first saw that...I was ticked off. Once again, something un impressive and not exciting.

However, I was also confused. What does it mean? And having some hidden code ... hmm, there may be more to this than meets the eyes. The secrets dwell in the shadows, or in this case, the colors.

Hoping this is more than just ... something that's nothing (if you get what I mean). Let's all try to figure out this code, Technodromers! Let's crack it (if there's anything to crack).

EDIT: Just read what you had to say, Boston ... erg. Man, really? ... really?

If that is not a "code" for different character posters or even character teasers or something.. that is ridiculous.. I've loved just about everything I've seen regarding this movie.. I've defended it for almost 5 years now.. But I cannot defend this.. and I don't want to either. If this is nothing more than what I see here.. than it is unbelievably pathetic and lazy. It's insulting. Get your F-ing **** together!!!!!!

Hah, it's not. I had similar thing to this when i scraped my car and needed to repaint it, it's just the code for the paint...

oh those lines....you mean the dash.......those lines mean its more of a mixed color..they have to take whatever 93 is and 15u mix them and you get that purple as opposed to buying a premade paint color like the blue or orange

"raph" is the same ...it looks like 15u is the base paint and 93 and 55 are what you add to get the right color

here is the 15u color reference they are the base paint

Well.. I don't think the Marketing team had anything to do with making the movie.. they are just hired for marketing.. and they should be F-ing fired. Seriously I am starting to get pissed off. The movie is close to completion so I've heard.. there is no excuse for this GARBAGE!!! Seriously, A F-ING COLOR CODE POSTER? Why not release a poster of Shredder or something? I get that you want to save it for the big screen but come on.. I've seen better marketing for Youtube shows.
Now is the time to turn it up a notch. This has been such a dry month.. people are getting rambunctious.. I understand that a trailer is literally right around the corner.. but there is no excuse for releasing this minimalistic ****. You couldn't even follow up the Leo poster from a few weeks ago with posters for the rest of them?? Get your **** together and put out something worthwhile

What I'm saying is that they could have gotten better people to do the marketing. If they are signing off and approving of this marketing, if they're fine with this being the way they sell their film, I'm not sure how much 'faith they have in the film', as many like to say.

I've had faith that they've had faith, but now I'm losing my faith that they have faith and are faithfully working on this film with faith.

Well I can't blame you lol.. I don't think it is indicative of a low quality movie.. at all. I think they are just putting out a minimalistic **** picture to kill time before releasing something more significant.. like a trailer. But I am starting to lose patience. I thought the marketing for Spiderman looked desperate.. It was way to much.. but they obviously had faith in their product so.. Apes has had little marketing also.. and they are even closer to release than TMNT. With every movie I've seen this year the Marketing always picks up the month of release.. We are still two months out.. So I don't think that this one little picture means that they have little faith in the film. If this is the kind of **** we get in July then I think that could be saying something. I don't think Paramount would spend 130 million bucks on a film and then just.. let it go down the drain. I think there are some really cool things coming. I just think this is a ridiculous picture.

It's true, a film can be great and have horrible marketing. Or vice versa. I'm just not sure why they put out stuff like this, I think I may prefer nothing at all.

And I don't doubt that we'll see a pick up in marketing soon. I'm pretty sure they will. But as you said, one still of Shredder would be a good way to intrigue people in the time being, not ... paint colors.

I agree... yea it's a **** picture.. but it's not that late in the game.. Like I said before Marketing for any movie usually picks up the month of release.. I mean Age of extinction is going to make stupid amounts of money, but yet they haven't had crazy marketing yet.. and it's less than a month away. That's Paramount's money bag lol. I just think they put out minimalistic **** lately. It's an insult to us TMNT enthusiast.. It has to be the Facebook guy.. I think the four weapons posters were official.. but not this ****.. I could be wrong though. I don't think it gives us a bad name.. it's not our fault that they put something like this out. I still think the movie will be great. But make no mistake about it.. this marketing has been terrible thus far.

Did DBE have any marketing?

Barely.

A trailer and a poster along with 2-3 tv spots that aired on Cartoon Network. The marketing was bad in my opinion, hardly anyone knew about the film (save for the diehard fans) until they discovered the film's poster (for me, it was at the back of a theater hall at an AMC theater). My reaction simply was, Wow ;)

The film was also pushed back from its original August 2008 release to April 2009.

The marketing for this film isn't just sad, it's pathetic....

Well I just discovered some new marketing for it...they've teamed up with the Crush soda brand. Look in the 2014 movie merchandise thread...

Put out a mediocre or worse product and just hope upon hope the nerds will love it regardless. Or at LEAST pay to see it.

Oh man. Is it my birthday or something?

This is too good and hilarious to be true.

It's not your birthday - it's candy for your knuckles. And tonight's Halloween!

An actual quote from the facebook page this image came from:

They could take a big dump for 10 minutes in the movie and I will still love it just because its tmnt. Reguardless of the story line or the animation. Its still turtles.

Amazing.

So "Two Turtles, One Cup" would be fine with this person then. Good to know.

Ok this part - it's probably a cultural thing as I'm in Australia; I gather this is dodgy somehow? Can someone give me a little more detail; is this a really cheap/crappy soda brand or something?

Orange (and other fruit flavored) Crush are made by the 3rd largest soda maker in America (Coke and Pepsi being the "Big 2") Dr. Pepper/Snapple, who make RC Cola, Diet Rite (essentially Diet RC...I think), 7Up, A&W Root Bear among others.

They're Pantone colour codes. This isn't some secret message.

Both this and the Beatles t-shirt reference are probably put together by the FB marketing team. They're both little nods to the world of graphic design. I'm guessing they have a design student putting together these images, hence the "insider" references and the low quality of those silhouette posters.

Not saying that they're good marketing images – clearly it's the opposite, since they're causing so much confusion

I would have preferred a ****ing trailer and instead we are getting nothing but merch before we have really been sold the movie. Its putting the cart before the horse. If this is the type of mentality that a person running the page has where they actually think that fans would rather see some ****** ass names on a shirt or some paint swatches then I hope someone stifles that idiot.

That seems like what facebook and particularly these movie related facebook pages have become. No news. So fill it with terrible memes and ********.

Again... it's basic blue, purple, red, and orange.

It's like if they advertised a Batman movie with a plain grey or black box with "Batman" written underneath. It's about as low-effort as marketing gets. There's minimalism, and then there's... this.

seriously.

god forbid they try something a little to the left or a little more interesting, right?

when i saw this i thought it was pretty awesome. i'd hang that in my nerd cave. (it's not just "plain" colors.)

from a nerdy standpoint i thought it was cool to know specifically what the color mixes were, should i ever wanna use the specific colors from this version of the tmnt. from the standpoint of someone who enjoys art, i thought this was pretty original in terms of referencing the property itself.

most of you are right in the fact that this doesn't look like its meant as marketing to the hard core fans (if it's anything more than facebook marketing at all). but you know, this image along with the "ampersand" image are probably meant to appeal to the general masses. that style is really in right now, especially the "ampersand" image...its all over t shirts and hats and posters.

maybe they are shying away a bit from outright showing the turtles because of the backlash, but that doesn't justify the reaction this is getting.

really, it's just a freakin fb pic. those weapons in hand posters are great and its true...marketing for films like this these days really doesn't ramp up til a few weeks before release, because nowadays there's so much free marketing going around on social networks and the like.

and the whole crush thing?

i mean, mac n cheese is ok, but not crush soda?

Do you remember the early 90s beverage called Gelooze or Jellooze, it was like a plastic bottle full of jello.

Would be a perfect tie in if they brought it back and had it in mini TCRI canisters.

But again that is merchandise before delivering a decent trailer.

I don't think the general masses really care about paint swatches. I could be wrong, lord knows I have a difficult enough time relating to 90% of the human race as it is, but I just can't see those paint swatches whipping ANYONE into a frenzy. I'd wager this swatch watch wouldn't be getting much or indeed any criticism if it wasn't all we're getting.

If there was officially released concept art and designs and trailers that do more than tease and interviews hyping up specific things then things like this would be viewed as harmless fun.

It's just late in the day for posters of hands and silhouettes of previously released images and the like just don't cut this late in the game and of course people are going to react badly to them as well as assume the reason they're not making the same effort to promote this as similar movies are being promoted is because they've got nothing to hype us.

Exactly. Which is why minimal effort is put into the images that appear on it. It doesn't matter. To be honest, social media marketing holds very little weight in general, across the board.

And in this case, the only people checking the page for updates constantly are people like us, and we're gonna do it regardless of what half-assed images they put up. All they do is keep the momentum going, which is what they're doing, because here we are talking about them.

Why don't you go take a gander at The Dark Knight's viral marketing campaign and learn yourself about filmmakers who actually give a damn about the fans.

Obviously this is a night and day comparison. That was a massive campaign across various mediums. This is a single Facebook page. The two movies clearly have extremely different strategies. And this one probably has a tiny budget. I'm not defending it, but data is still very unclear as to whether viral and social media-related marketing has much of an impact.

At this stage in the game, some complex viral marketing campaign won't do any good anyway. And who's to say TDK's viral stuff ended up putting any asses in the seats? It basically just drummed up anticipation from fans, and then more traditional marketing methods did the heavy lifting.

Unfortunately we haven't seen much of that from this movie either

But yeah, you're right, the fact that there has been so little doesn't show much fan appreciation.

No sh*t. It was literally ALL for the fan's enjoyment. They spent all that money and all that effort and time just to give fans something they'll remember for the rest of their lives. And I totally will.

We sat and watched a candle in a jack o lantern with a bat shaped mouth melt and melt over days just for a film still. But it was awesome because it was of Joker and the pumpkin rotted on ONE side. Like Two-Face and the pumpkin in The Long Halloween.

It spanned a year and 4 months and the entire planet. Everybody, whether you were there in person or just online figuring out the puzzles and clues, got a chance to participate and enjoy awesome things. From official film stills to dozens of posters to teasers and trailers to viral marketing props and memorabilia.

Speaking of which...

Unfortunately we haven't seen much of that from this movie either

Yeah. We get basically the same 1:30 teaser over and over again but just shorter and with a second or two of new footage for this movie.

On top of leaked photos and color swatch squares.

It's a travesty.

Honestly no offense, but this is what I think of when people talk about the marketing picking up as if there's some kind of media blitz just around the corner. Maybe there is, but that this point I'm not holding my breath. I'm sure there will be a couple TV ads and another trailer or two (maybe even some new footage in those), but that's about all I'm expecting.
