View Full Version : Insight Of Turtles Origin

Drome user Slash32 got a hold of a set of movie figures in advance, and apparently they include an insert that features upcoming movie toys- The boys as pre-mutated turtles, and young (mutant) kids as well. Based on this, it would seem the film will show us the turtles when they were younger, training with Splinter, maybe even playing together (as they seem to have skateboarding helmets). The dots of paint on the turtles' shell suggest that whoever owned the turtles marked them so as to tell them apart. Kids commonly do this, so perhaps they're petshop turtles from the get-go.
At any rate, here's a crop of the original photo-

Wasn't there some rumor about them being humans first that mutate into turtles? Looks like this puts that to bed.
Not too sure about them being "adult-man turtles". Kind of makes the whole teenage thing in the title seem pointless. Not a big deal though, really. With so much that's wrong with this movie, what's one more nail in the coffin?

that was an april fools joke
so are these special editions or special box sets..i will admit if they make all 4 like this then these i may have to grab them for the tiny turtles
i wouldnt mind them being "adult" turtles and "teenage" in name only ive said it before and ill say it again aside from the current toon, the turtles have always acted more mature than your average teen
i mean usually they dont surface till 15 years after mutation, so mutant body wise they are teens

They're special 3-packs where you get each stage of life for the turtles. I wouldn't read too much into the teen aspect though, they probably just felt it sounded better than kid/child/pre-teen.

Agreed. This is one of the few things I am genuinely interested in. We've never had a childhood flashback in the films before. Would be really cool to see teachings from Splinter or how they chose their weapons or something to that effect.

About the Teen thing, like what I've said on the other thread: "It's like how the Gohan from Dragon Ball Z that fought Cell is called "Teen" in all media when he's only 9 years old at the time and the "Adult" one from The Buu arc is 16 years old. Don't think much of that little detail."

Okay. But they clearly won't be teenagers, like in the current cartoon. Which is what you originally implied.
And my whole problem is that April Fox would meet them/know them BEFORE she meets/knows them as Mutant Ninja Turtles.
For example, if, in the current cartoon, the Turtles were April's pet Turtles instead of Yoshi's(or a random kid's). And then years and years later she meets them as the mutant ninja turtles.
It's just poor writing, trying to connect all the aspects of the universe together or to one character.

Yeah, I would've wanted a more traditional approach to things than as 'in your face' as all of this is, and I agree, turtle undergarments is something not needed in this film. The whole concept of them needing them at all is utterly stupid at the core. Michael Bay humor for the win?

I'm at a total loss for why creatures that have no visible "naughty bits" have to constantly and compulsively cover up their "junk". It's like the execs were looking at comic book cover art while they were figuring out the look of the movie, some bimbo picked up a Mirage book and said, "Are those tails or penises? Either way, I'm not comfortable with that. Why don't they wear pants, exactly?" Aaaand, now here we are, Underoos and loincloths. Why doesn't one of 'em put on a bra while we're on it? They don't have any tits, either, but hey, who cares? It's a whole new world, bay-bay! No Rules and no limits!

I'm kind of baffled as to why they would make toys of those Baby Mutant Poorly-Dressed with Ninja Accessories Turtles.™ What kid wants to play with that? They don't look cool. It's probably a relatively small part of the movie and I have a hard time imagining kids playing with them over the regular turtles if they're into it all.
I'll guess they are being made for adult collectors to keep in the box and display. Even if I was into such things I'm not sure I'd want to display something so ugly with anything resembling pride.

To be fair, at least the characters in TMNT still resemble who they're supposed to be, albeit wearing way too much gimmick, whereas Electric Slide Superman just looks like a giant blue bucket of electrified crap.
My point being, radical change just for the sake of radical change often leads to future generations asking "WTF were they thinking?" in hindsight. Jes' sayin'.

I mean, I go on Superman boards sometimes, and we all know Returns wasn't universally loved, but just because I really liked it doesn't mean I compulsively defend it to people who didn't. I mean, yeah, sometimes I have, but it's pretty rare, comparatively.
My point being, people who don't like what I like don't rain on my parade. I don't let it affect me. I genuinely don't understand their opinion, but they can have it. I'm not listing every counter-point to every statement I don't agree with. I don't get why people do that. It's all been said by now, anyways. Everyone knows how every single other member on the board feels. If I think Edward Shredder-Hands or whatever looks patently ridiculous, and I list every valid reason why, that shouldn't get someone else all huffy if they like the way it looks.
I'unno, man. People say guys like you and I are way too uptight, but I don't feel it.

But some guy who made an outstanding fan costume was told by EVERYONE that no one is going to want to see this. You know, not because they'd be influenced to think so by someone standing there in a giant old school ninja turtle costume or anything. I've seen tons of people on other boards that are pretty pumped for this. When the trailer hit youtube it did HUGE viewing numbers. This will be the surprise hit of the summer. Maybe not in quality, but in box office numbers. Watch. Kids are huge fans of the Nick Toon, they'll come out to see what will be their first connection with live action big screen ninja turtles.
I know.. and yea ill admit that Donnie costume kicks ass. I agree 100%. It's sooo close.
And then after this movie.. a few months later well get the announcement for a sequel. All the kinks will be worked out with this first one.. and the second will hopefully be even bigger, and better. It's gonna be awesome to see these characters grow up for the first time ever. I think they're probably gonna be around 17/18 years old maybe.. Kids are gonna eat this movie up.. along with the older crowd for sure

I just don't think that's set in stone, though. I really just don't. It CAN happen, but TMNT movies have never done huge box office business. That's just the fact. They do huge DVD business, but that's different. And I think this one will do well on DVD as all the rest of them have, regardless of what it turns out to be like. People can HOPE that every kid who watches the Nick show will go see the movie in theaters, but it never quite seems to work that way, historically speaking.
I'd have more faith if it was coming out earlier in the summer, not the mid-August graveyard slot. And I don't think it will have a long tail. Much bigger, more heavily advertised "franchise" films have had a steep second-week drop-off this past year. It's just the new way it works; tickets are so damn expensive, no movie is getting the repeat business it would have gotten 5 years ago.
Unless the word-of-mouth on opening weekend is HUGE and the movie pleasantly surprises literally everyone, it's going to make all its money in three days and then fizzle. That's my honest prediction. The one thing that annoys me about TMNT fans just a little bit, is how they over-estimate the franchise's popularity. People are fond of it; it's not a Batman-level franchise, though. To say absolutely nothing about the movie's *quality*, I think some folks are going to be unpleasantly surprised with the numbers. Nick ratings and youtube hits and people twittering on FaceSpace are NOT guaranteed to turn into ticket sales.
All I'm saying is, it might do pretty well, but people shouldn't expect this movie to make Avengers money, or they're gonna be let down. And if I'm wrong, well, good.

TMNT is HOT as hell right now and people are hyped for this film. So is a massive box office smash set in stone? No.. but it's looking good as of right now. Nothing makes me happier than knowing my favorite franchise is on the rise... it's been too long.
Edit: I don't expect it to make Avengers money either.. But I also think people underestimate this franchise.
The first trilogy had it's reasons for not making much "the second and third film". The first film did really well. This isn't an animated CGI film.. It's a big Bay produced live action film. I think the film will make enough money to warrant a sequel and that's all I really care about. Then the next one they could place in a better spot.

If that's the case, why call this movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Why couldn't they just stick to the original title? That's kinda like false advertising.

Until now... if franchises like Transformers and Ironman and Cap. America and Spiderman can make hundreds of millions of dollars... I'd like to think that TMNT could do the same...
The problem with that logic is, it puts TMNT and Spider-Man on equal ground as far as popularity, and that's ridiculous to even suggest. It's got way more in common with Transformers than it does the rest of them, just as far as brand recognition. Not everyone actually reads Captain America, for example, but everyone knows the character, they're aware he continually exists. Nobody ever says things like, "Spider-Man? Is he still around? Man, I thought they stopped doing Spider-Man when I was a kid!" That happens all the time with TMNT, though.
I love TMNT as much if not more than anyone else, but I don't over-sell their popularity. It's a niche franchise taken very seriously by a comparatively small but equally-passionate fanbase compared to many other franchises. And if a TMNT movie IS going to make as much money as Spider-Man or Captain America, well, I honestly wish THIS movie wasn't going to be the one to do it, so either way, I won't have reason to be super-happy.
Again, if I'm wrong in the end, so be it. The TMNT movie *I* want is never going to happen, just like the Superman movie I want is never going to happen. I'm over it. It is what it is.

They talked with a marine biologist turtles reach maturity much later so they are still teenagers
That highly varies. Sea turtles can take years to reach maturity, and it's not just different between the various species, but also within the same species, as loggerheads can age up to fifty before reaching maturity, since it's all about size and not necessarily age, sexual maturity is related to the size of the carapace.
But, it seems that the general rule is turtles mature at age ten, like red eared sliders sexually mature around 2-7 years.

It's got way more in common with Transformers than it does the rest of them, just as far as brand recognition. Well than that's even better.. Transformers is a powerhouse. This is the first live action TMNT film in 24 years and I think people are just as excited about this as they were for the first Transformers film. And I know it sounds shallow and will probably be swept under the rug by some but Bay's name being attached to this does give it a boost.
Again, if I'm wrong in the end, so be it. The TMNT movie *I* want is never going to happen, just like the Superman movie I want is never going to happen. I'm over it. It is what it is.
Same here.. if I am wrong ill be the first to come here and admit it. And you never know.. you never thought you'd get THIS movie years ago.. if this movie crashes then you very well could get a more traditional TMNT film "if that's what you want" a few years from now.. And Spiderman is a good analogy.. they immediately rebooted it. The same could happen with TMNT. What do you mean by the Spiderman you want? What kind of Spiderman film would you be interested in?

Just a heads up. I'm not "trolling" in the slightest. I've read your riddiculous comments from the closed thread, and wanted to clear up a few things.
A) those badly drawn pics were shared by the character designer of this film, no B.S.
B) There is now a figure of Raph in old man underwear, don has tapped up nerd glasses, and Mike has huge b*tch lips.
I'm a serious fan, and I'm pissed that the big expensive live action film being made, is this crap. I'm not thrilled like Oliver Twist, begging for scraps from the Hollywood table, or that, oh golly gee, there making a new film. After such a long wait for a live action film, I wanted the bar to be set higher. From all available evidence so far, this is a joke, and it's at the expense of the fans.
Really look at the statements made in the iconography. It's clear as day.

I didn't say Spider-Man, I said Superman... aside from his movies, I don't give a sh*t about Spider-Man. I like the movies, but that's it.
And basically, I wanted a Superman movie that combines the most recognizable and essential story bits from the comics, the "heart" of the first Reeve film, and the budget and SFX of most modern super-hero movies. "Man of Steel" had two of them, but without the "heart", it wasn't "really" Superman. Characters in the movie said and did things that are basically the opposite of who their characters are supposed to be, and explosions and fight scenes were prioritized over all. The tone was all wrong. I liked it for what it was, and it was a good movie, but it wasn't a great "Superman movie", and it wasn't what I want to see from Superman. I want less existential navel-gazing and accidental murder of entire cities he's supposed to be protecting, and more stuff like the plane rescue scene from "Superman Returns". But I won't ever get what I want, because the character, as I know, love and respect it, is "outdated" and "passe'." So, we get less iconic, inspiring, "Earth's Greatest Hero" stuff and more "let's knock some more f*cking skyscrapers over, I think we missed one." I get it. But don't ask me to like it.
And I know I'm never gonna win this one, but actually using the Superman costume as it mostly always was, instead of "re-imagining" it for every new modern movie, wouldn't piss me off none, either.

I do like the movie, I just had to try harder to like it than I wanted to. For all that people didn't love about "Returns", it sure as hell FELT a lot more Superman-y than MoS, even though MoS actually put a lot more little tiny snippets of comic book lore in there. They were pretty obscure, and you had to really look, but I do appreciate the effort. And it *looked* great, and Cavill did a great job. It just felt wrong. It was just too maudlin for a movie about Superman. And it more or less made him look to all the world like a dangerous menace, and I have a huge problem with that.
But, in a post-Avengers world, we need high-stakes, wall-to-wall action, entire cities crumbling to dust, a hero who kills the villain despite having at least 67 other options in the moment, and above all, no red trunks allowed.
I'unno. I liked it, but I wanted to love it, and I didn't, and they're not going to reverse course anytime soon. So I've just resigned myself to the fact that I'm not going to Love a Superman movie for a long, long time, until people who really "get" the character are in charge of it again. Which is mostly how I feel about the TMNT movie.

Imo I wish they'd just do a whole new Batman trilogy from scratch.. But after Avengers it seems like everyone has to Jam all these massive characters and Villains into one movie and I feel it's unnecessary. Unless it's done right.. Well, I can respect your view, and agree, but I'd go further. It looked like after effects on steroids, but utilizing the cheapest templates from video co-pilot. The cg was horrible, and the film's production design was so muted, they might as well have shot in black and white. I can't recall the last time the destruction of a city felt so boring.
But I digress. Like you, I'd made peace with the fact that the first live action turtles film in over a decade was coming this summer, and I, won't be seeing it.
And that's crap. It's really, really annoying. I was really looking forward to a big budget TMNT. It was the same with MOS, same with G.I.Joe, and now it looks like the same is happening to He-Man.
Sure, it's all first world problems and all that, but, in an age when technology gives you the ability to create something as impressive as life of Pi (visually), or as immersive as 3D can be (when done right), and budgets for films have never been higher - they consciously screw it up?
I just can't understand, when you have all the tools possible, this is what you make?

That's the best thing I've ever seen!
So, y'all remember when it was announced that Bay was going to direct Transformers, right? The Internet went and had a hissy fit.
Then the images of the bots were leaked.
The Internet went fussy pants fu fu.
Three movies later, the Internet hates Bay, BUT, he is now made of gold and diamonds and unobtanium.
Bay is also now synonymous with evil jerk, explosions, and raping of childhoods.
SOOO...Bay might be made of Black Amex cards, Lamborghinis, and Virgin panda tears, but deeeeep down, I think he's hurt.
He's angry with the Internet. He wants to punish the nerds. He wants to get EVEN!!!
And what could be better revenge for Bay, than to rake in tons of cash, by perverting one of the most beloved franchises of all time.
What I'm saying is, I'm starting to think his entire film is a massive F U to the nerds, geeks, and Internet in general.
White underware on Raph? Speaks VOLUMES to me. Now all the other idiotic decisions make sense. They are enjoying this.
That's a giant middle finger up in the air.
Bay is Ramsey Snow, and the fans are Theon Greyjoy.
And some of you have turned into Reek.
Why? He's mocking you, and you're handing him money for doing so.
TMNT? Nope, this is clearly Bay's Revenge.
That's pretty extreme thinking, personally I think you are giving way too much credit to Bay for even thinking about the fans.
And after reading this a few times my reaction was;
Of course this can't be true!... But maybe...

Yes. And if it's not, the people designing it should have known how closely it would LOOK like underwear and should have made it look different if they wanted to avoid that assumption.

Those look awesome, I'll get these sets over the single releases, probably. Hopefully they make Mike and Don, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't because Leo and Raph always come first with the merchandising decisions...
Oh, and it looks like Playmates re-used the weapons from the Nickelodeon ninjas in training figures :P
EDIT: Just saw the scan of the book, a shame it's only Leo and Raph. Again though, can't say I'm surprised because they always do this. Let's just hope Mike and Don's roles in the actual film aren't as pathetic as they were in TMNT 2007...

Mikey's underoos was a unexpected joke, that for me at least caught me off guard, and it's a weird interesting quirk for Mikey. Also, he doesn't wear then all the time, there is no whitey tighty Nick Mikey figure (... Sadly  ). The prospects of a PD turtle wearing underpants, seems kinda of an permanent feature and less of an one time joke.
Although I doubt PD Teen Raph actually wears a pair of white underpants, they look too skirt-ish, so unless he cut them up...

Actually to me it looks like a makeshift nappy. Or the world's worst kilt. I don't usually get so scathing, but whatever they were trying to go for here, it did not work. If they want to put the Turtles in clothes for this movie, that's their prerogative - but couldn't they just give him a pair of ripped up cut-offs that someone might have thrown out, or some old pants where he's cut the legs off and modified them to fit around his shell?

I dig the idea of them exploring their time as kids, but if the turtle kids had voice actors, or even mocap actors...shouldn't that have found its way onto some news site or maybe even IMDB?
Personally the 'ninjas in training' set from NICK is cooler than this.

if they've grown up and adapted the ways of humans, whether through the influence of their once human master or simply by observing people in the shadows or even on TV it seems they would go further than simply adapting slang and mannerisms. honestly, i think they would adapt to wearing clothing before they would to spouting catchphrases or tricking out sewers and vans with tech and personality.
also, its more realistic, which is what everyone wants right?
oh...unless it infringes upon some arbitrary rule that has no actual bearing on anything at all having to do with the story or who these characters are at the core.
i mean with the pedigree of the people handling this movie and the obvious mistakes that are more than likely going to be made/have been made in terms of plot and casting, is this really something to whine about?

Also, I feel that it's dismissive to just brush off people who don't like certain things as "whining" - it implies that the opinions of the people who don't like said thing are invalid purely because they're negative, and that's really not fair, any more than it's fair to dismiss the opinions of people who are positive about something.
I don't like to do serious posts like this but I wish people would try to be a bit nicer regardless of their opinions. I don't care about the context of the movie. The lack of clothes/accessories/crap all over them has worked and worked very well for 30 years.
Every time they've worn clothes it's very quickly discarded for the traditional look or it's some kind of alternate ridiculous universe or what have you.
Loin cloths and xboxes and nerd glasses and sweaters wrapped around the waist and "bamboo" armor over a plastron fall very much into that category.

Or because the context doesn't matter because the decision to make them even more visually different by adding ridiculous clothes to their design wasn't an artistic choice, but one made to sell more toys.
is stagnation really what you want for this franchise?
Yep, a huge hit of a cartoon with characters recognizably and faithfully adapted with MINOR, insignificant changes to design(some that are even good) and a very popular comic series with lore(that I'm not really a fan of, but whatever) added to the already existing, slightly modified origin as well as characters, once again, faithfully and recognizably adapted is stagnation.
Stagnation happens when sh*t is produced and the product falls out of the public eye. Just like the Batman film franchise. Nearly dead because of two crappy movies.

Penny.. I honest to god like you.. you are respectful of other people and are easy to discuss things with bc of your nonasshole delivery.
Having said that.. I think asking someone in here to be sensitive of other peoples feelings is totally unrealistic at this point. Some of these kids purposely go out of their way on a daily basis to do the opposite. I think Zodiac made some great points and it pissed a few people off. I also think that people pile on one person with this "mob" like mentality for being "offensive" simply bc they disagree with them while simultaneously giving some of the worst offenders a free pass. It's the same childish game of making a big deal acting offended just to silence someone they disagree with. And believe me I am not referring to you in any way ok. There are a lot of folks " like you " that come here and voice their opinions whether it be negative or positive with an honest sincere frame of mind. But there are others that simply come on here to **** on everything just to get a reaction. They do it out of spite. Everyday. Every thread. Just bc of their hatred for other people that they don't even know is so great that they can't help themselves.
If someone responds to me like a human being "like the way you have in other threads" ill respond to them like a human being.. But if I get this "snarky condescending elitist punk" attitude that seems to be so prevalent around here? You bet I'm gonna give it back a hundred fold. Then the usual " OMG look at how rude you are ban him ban him!! " follows from the folks on the opposite side of the spectrum while intentionally over looking the nastiness I was responding to in the first place. And around we go. I've tried to talk to some of these folks nicely but they only seem to want to respond to flame bait.. if you play nice... they wander off lol.

It's interesting that their shells are marked...because if it's like that in the movie, we'll finally have an explanation as to why their mask colors are those specific colors.

I'm not saying there isn't an argument for it. I don't agree with it, but it is a matter of taste. And there might be a way to make it look decent, but IMO, this movie missed that mark completely.
But also, from a simple design perspective, making the Turtles look less like turtles, like by covering their up turtley features with clothes and tons of accessories, is a pretty terrible idea. They look less iconic and recognizable. It's like taking Spider-Man's classic costume, adding a hoodie around the waist, a necklace, chest armour and tech-gear all over it - there is no way it'd make him look better. He'd look ridiculous. Like these Turtles do.
also, its more realistic, which is what everyone wants right?
Uh... no? No thanks? The only necessary answer to "why don't the Ninja Turtles wear pants?" is "they're turtles."
Also: the whole "gritty realism" thing has gotten way out of hand, if anything. I'd rather they embrace the absurd while also letting it be emotional and serious when appropriate. Marvel's hit a pretty good note these days by doing just that.
oh...unless it infringes upon some arbitrary rule that has no actual bearing on anything at all having to do with the story or who these characters are at the core.

I'm not saying there isn't an argument for it. I don't agree with it, but it is a matter of taste. And there might be a way to make it look decent, but IMO, this movie missed that mark completely.
But also, from a simple design perspective, making the Turtles look less like turtles Well one might argue that they look more Turtlish than they did in the old films. Esp. the faces imo. I think we could go round and round all day with that debate.. Like you said before.. a lot of it comes down to taste. It's different for different people, I mean what IS "right" for the franchise? and what is a defining factor, that's what I wonder sometimes.
Uh... no? No thanks? The whole "gritty realism" thing has gotten way out of hand, if anything. I'd rather they embrace the absurd while also letting it be emotional and serious when appropriate. Marvel's hit a pretty good note these days by doing just that. Well it is for a majority of people it seems. Ever since BB and TDK these reboots have def. taken this "dark gritty realistic" route over and over again and it works. It sells. The Nolan trilogy was extremely popular bc of this imo. Maybe in some peoples eyes it has gotten out of hand but money talks.. I think even the Avengers had it's gritty dark realistic moments. But TDK really proved something imo.. That people love dark gritty "realistic" reboots. When they are done right that is.
So we're allowed to voice reasonable concerns about THIS and THIS, but not THAT? And you were saying what about "arbitrary rules" again?
I think what he meant was the fact that people seem to search for things to pick a part. While giving other films a complete pass in the same areas. I mean come on... no one can deny that people have been absolutely ridiculous with their unrealistic expectations concerning this film and it's obvious that no matter what they do some will ALWAYS find something wrong with it. I mean..broken bricks? Fox wearing Yoga pants during an exercise segment? every article released it's a mountain of complaints that they didn't answer every single question.. some want to know everything about the movie while at the same time swear up and down that they have no desire seeing it in the first place.. You're allowed to voice ALL of you're concerns... I think he was just saying.. come on.. are we really upset over a pair of undies, a large tee shirt? I could be wrong but that's how I took it.

Well one might argue that they look more Turtlish than they did in the old films. Esp. the faces imo.
If somebody think that TMNT'14 designs looks more turtleish, then they need to go and see what real Turtles looks like. It's not to say old designs are very Turtle-like, but Bay's are not Turtle-like in the slightest. It's some unholy crossover between apes and lizards.
Well it is for a majority of people it seems.
Another FAD that'll fade away in few years. It doesn't mean, that everything should following it, even if many people like it. Marvel sure doesn't and they're still on top of their game, for example.
You're allowed to voice ALL of you're concerns...

sorry you feel im being dismissive. thanks for your thoughts, tho.
this^........this^ exactly :D thank you....
It's interesting that their shells are marked...because if it's like that in the movie, we'll finally have an explanation as to why their mask colors are those specific colors.
Thats a great point I havent thought about....great catch.....

I see it as a display of the follow the leader mentality run rampant in Hollywood right now. far too innovators and a whole crowd of imitators trying to capitalize of the risks others take. something comes along and becomes successful and everyone and their mother lines up to copy how it worked without questioning why it worked. studios were quick to jump on Nolans realistic style without realizing that the tone and style actually fit the character. batman and his world are dark and gritty by nature and him being just a normal man using skills and tech lends itself more to a realistic interpretation. yet all the suits saw was the tone and assumed that's why people liked it so they assume they can stick it on every character and see the same outcome. I hear they're even planning to give the fanstastic four reboot a batman begins tone. the fantastic four. the lighthearted first family of marvel. seriously.
they're doing the same thing now with the idea to rebrand film franchises into cinematic universes in the wake of the avengers. nevermind it was marvels plan to lead up it from the get go and they built their films with that in mind. now we've got a bunch of guys rushing to build one in a hurry because they've seen it gets returns.Even this turtle movie seems to me more like an attempt to copy whats selling rather than just make something that honors the franchise and Its kind of sad.
I don't think its so much that people are nitpicking but more that they are looking at the same details as confirmations of the things they're afraid they'll be getting. If you're worried the turtles are going to end up being hulking superstrong monstrosity's bricks breaking under leos weight probably won't be a good sign to you. If you're worried megan fox's acting will suck and she only got this job because shes a sex symbol then one of the first images being her jumping on a trampoline wearing tights will probably rub you the wrong way. its small stuff and it can easily be taken out of context but people just want to know what they should expect. no ones wants to get their hopes up for a letdown if they can help it. personally I blame the marketing because they without a doubt could be doing a better job of of managing peoples concerns. they know there's backlash and negativity and they're kind of just letting it fester.

It's one hell of a stretch to say the MCU is grim, gritty, or realistic. They're nothing like the Dark Knight Trilogy. There's a difference between taking things seriously in a highly fantastical world and being grim, dark, and gritty. I mentioned this in the cheesy thread that this film looks like it's going to miss out on either of those two formulas.

If somebody think that TMNT'14 designs looks more turtleish, then they need to go and see what real Turtles looks like. It's not to say old designs are very Turtle-like, but Bay's are not Turtle-like in the slightest. It's some unholy crossover between apes and lizards.Well... I disagree bud. Ill just post this again bc i think it says it all.

Another FAD that'll fade away in few years. It doesn't mean, that everything should following it, even if many people like it. Marvel sure doesn't and they're still on top of their game, for example. Actually.. Marvel does do it. It may not be as "dark" as other comic book films but they are working with the same formula imo.. I think as tech advances movies will get more realistic and continue on in this direction. Just like when you watch a film from years ago.. as time goes by films get less and less cheesy and cheap looking, and more and more realistic, Like I said before The Nolan trilogy has made a serious statement.. I think if gave people a choice between Batman Forever and The Dark Knight? They'd go with TDK. I don't think its a "fad" at all. Imo..

Clearly some folks are bothered by people criticizing this movie, but nobody's forcing anyone to read those posts or reply to them. Play nice.
You guys seriously need to stop with this hiding behind " its our opinion" excuse. With most of you yes.. but he was right. I quoted you in a respectful normal way, tried to have a normal go at it.. but you decided to quote someone else acting like I wasn't even here in the first place. But, could you explain why you think it he PD designs look more like turtles, cause I don't see how PD Leo looks more like a turtle, at all.
I think the picture kinda shows it a little.. Last time I talked about this it started a war but,
I just think the snouts/noses with the nostrils and the shape of the head look more turtlish than what was before. I also think the skin looks more reptilian. I've also noticed that the joints "esp. the knee" are the smallest part of the limb. As for the shell.. I think they went with more of a land dwelling Turtles shell than a Turtle that would live in water. Which makes sense to me being that the TMNT are never really in water. Yes I know the carapace/plastron doesn't look correct. I actually like the older shells plastron better but I haven't seen what this one will look like at the end of the day so..
I can understand the complaint of them looking less turtlish with a lot of stuff on.. and I get why some don't like the clothing and accessories. People have different tastes.
But I don't mind the accessories and imo I think they look more "turtlish" now than ever before. They also have a lot of human aspects to the design but i think it will come in handy when watching them interact.

I don't really see it. The only difference between old leo and the new one is that they flattened out the beak and added nostrils. The former probably has more to do with mapping the actors face than anything else and the nostrils ill agree are a nitpick. They didn't bother me in out of the shadows and they don't bother me here.what does bother me is the decision to give them more humanoid features. It doesn't really come across when using leonardo for comparision since he's the most traditional looking one face wise but its really noticable on raph and mike.

Well... I disagree bud. Ill just post this again bc i think it says it all.
It says that neither old Turtles, nor new ones, look like an actual turtles. That's all.
Actually.. Marvel does do it. It may not be as "dark" as other comic book films but they are working with the same formula imo..
I don't see it. They're more in the realm of lighthearted action, rather than GRIMDARKREALISM. And, if Guardians is anything to go by, it'll stay that way at least for some time. Personally, I hope Marvel will continue to keep this tone of this movies, because I didn't like idea of turning everything in a GRIMDARKREAL setting. Comic book movies should be heroic fantasy action with interesting characters, not brooding feeble attempt at psychological study as Nolan's movie were.
Like I said before The Nolan trilogy has made a serious statement.. I think if gave people a choice between Batman Forever and The Dark Knight? They'd go with TDK. I don't think its a "fad" at all. Imo..
It's a bad idea to compare TDK and Forever. Those movies are separated by the decade, so there were never actual choice between them. As there were never a choice between TDK and some different lighthearted movie about Batman at the time. The movie was made, it was successful. Hollywood started copypasting. Just as it always was.
GRIMDARKREALISM is just another decade long fad, like discomovies were in the 70-s and then dark 80-s stuff. It'll fade away and then something different will take its place. Most likely people being tired from grimdark stuff, will ask for something more lighthearted.
Well I kinda like that approach.. and it seems to be a winning formula so why not go with it?
Because more often then not, it robs individual franchises from personality and what made them work in the first place and turns them into some horrible mishmash?
Yep.. that's exactly how I meant it.. I love the snarky sarcastic childish punk way you ALWAYS respond to my post which was not meant to be "Chastising or condescending" in any way. What do you mean when you call Batman more "mythological" than The Avengers? Cause I kinda feel like Batman would be dead last on the "mythological" list...
Sumac
06-07-2014, 06:51 PM
Except Nolan's films had heroic fantasy. Albeit in a non cartoony, whimsical childish way. I saw military tank vehicles leaping cars. Flipping 18 wheelers on real city streets. Batman taking on entire SWAT teams, mastermind terrorists, and militaristic mercenaries turned revolutionary dictators. That is very much fantasy.
Than any action movie could be called "heroic fantasy", because it is exactly what usually happens in them. Hero takes upon entire armies, destroying stuff left and right, destroying vehicles in improbable and cool ways...By this margin, any Die Hard movie can be called "heroic fantasy".
"Heroic fantasy" is more than just improbable action shots. It's about atmosphere, spirit and lore. Batman, as he was in Nolan movies didn't felt like "heroic fantasy character", more like generic hero-protagonist in an action movie with attempts to give him psychological depth. Which once again have nothing to do with "heroic fantasy".
Hardly feeble either, are you seriously insinuating Nolan didn't make quality films about Batman? He made great films. To even attempt to insinuate otherwise would be asinine. He raised the stakes of the genre.
From the point of cinematography, yes, they are great movies.
From the point of core idea and general atmosphere, not so much. They are problems as with the basis of having Batman act in real world-like setting. And then there are purely cinematographical problems, like odd editing and actors delivery.
I could go into details why I don't think Nolan movies is that awesome.
As for the stakes, Avengers wasn't really original in its idea or execution, but it was as perfect comic book movie as possible. It didn't open new era genre-wise for the comic book movies, but on the other hand, sometimes there is no need to reinvent bicycle. Just make a good fantastic movie. That's all.
Nolan movies are successfull experiments, but given what they had started, I have my doubts, that it was a worthy experiment at all.
The character is grim, dark, and lends itself to a version of heightened reality. What on earth is wrong with fantastical concepts being grounded in a contemporary reality? It's called versimilitude.
Because, the whole premise of grown up man jumping on roofs, calling himself "Batman", while being dressed in costume with cape and pointed ears is outright ridicolous to exist in real reality?
Marvel offers a different flavor. Less mythological, and more like action comedies. Why can't we have room for both? Batman's character lends itself to that proper tone.
We can. But it doesn't I am gonna be fan of it.
Amazing Spider-Man 2012 tried to emulate Batman Begins, and it didn't make sense for the character. The same way it wouldn't be a good Batman film with out the psychology, or the dark / grim setting.
Have you heard of Adam West's Batman?
Marvel Studios leans on continuity, comedy, and color to make up for the fact ... let's be honest, none of those characters are the modern mythologies Superman / Batman, and even Spider-Man or X-Men are.
Save for Captain America and Hulk.
People maybe do not know much about them, but they aware of their existence. The same could be said of aforementioned list.

Confirmed, Bay's Turtles look more like actual turtles than the previous franchise.
Hell, that turtle even had shading on his beak that makes it look like he has lips.
:o
Henson's puppets are awesome, but that rounded beak area without nose holes to breathe make them look more like really cool muppets.
"But errr ma gawd ... why do the turtles have nostrils? #unfaithful."
As we can see, real turtles can breathe through their noses. Congrats on Bay and co's attention to details.
I disagree that the PD look like real turtles, but I guess I don't understand this argument. There's no real world precedence for mutant humanoid turtles, so what does it matter if they look like "real" turtles or not? Shouldn't they look like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? If someone was making a Batman movie and he redesigned Batman's costume to be all brown with a furry torso and leathery wings hanging off the arms and and said, "this is more realistic. If someone was dressing up as bat this is what it would look like" people would lose their **** because that's not what Batman is supposed to look like. I know different artists have had their own versions of the turtles over the years, but the 1990 version looks about as traditionally TMNT as it gets.
Yep.
And funnily enough, they kinda did that with Batman. It's called "Just Imagine Stan Lee's Batman."

The word I was looking for was "mythic." That entire post, and that's all you got out of it?I disagree with the majority of the post. But since they were matters of preference, I didn't argue. I've done the "Nolan sucked the fun out of Batman" rant four or five times, here. But...
I just think it's lame to strip traits and trademarks from the characters in order to make things more realistic. I think it's lame that Gotham is a pretty generic city. I like the idea of Batman being a continual crime fighter, instead of him wearing his knee out. And it's lame that the Batmobile is a tank that wasn't even made for Batman, and there's nothing "bat" about it. I'm also a big fan of Catwoman acting like a cat. Or, at least, having cats. It's part of her identity. And it would've been cool if Bane was roided out on his venom, too. Plus, there are all the great Batman villains that they never would've used in that world.
They're great movies, and they're about a Batman. I wouldn't call them great Batman movies.
I wasn't comparing Batman to "The Avengers" BTW. Apples, and Oranges. Which was the point I was getting at.You said Marvel Studios' characters weren't the modern mythologies Batman and Superman were. That's what I asked about. But I get that weren't saying one was better than the other.

So we're allowed to voice reasonable concerns about THIS and THIS, but not THAT? And you were saying what about "arbitrary rules" again?
my point is a) these "concerns" aren't reasonable, so much as flame baiting and b) the "concerns" kept coming even after a clearer pic showing it wasn't what everyone thought it was, was posted.
I could be wrong but that's how I took it.
you took it right.
And I think he hasn't said anything that wasn't said before and that wasn't refuted before.
everything i've been saying, the whole angle of my point is that there needs to be less flaming over relative minutia.
has that been said before? yes.
has that been refuted? from the way people here have responded and act on the daily...sadly yes.
good call.
The only thing that "pissed people off" about those comments were the parts where they were talked down to and chastised for daring to voice an opinion.
Clearly some folks are bothered by people criticizing this movie, but nobody's forcing anyone to read those posts or reply to them. Play nice.
was i snarky? yes.
this is the friggin technodrome.
THE LARGEST gathering place on the internet for TMNT fans.
it sucks that people who wanna come here to have actual discourse and appreciate the franchise have to constantly put up with the general sh!ttiness of the attitudes of so many on here. as a fan i would like to partake in this forum but its hard to do so when there is such pervasive negativity.
i feel like i have some kind of abstract stake in this franchise as i, like so many others here, have been life long members of this fandom.
and so all the steam coming from all the trolling, whining, arguing, negativity--all of it, built up and made me be snarky.
compared to others on here, its a very low level of snark.
so yeah, i did talk down...but to no one in particular until it became clear there were members who couldnt stand having a taste of their own rxs.
and if anyone actually read my post objectively, they'd see i didnt chastise anyone for simply "voicing an opinion". in fact i specifically said i wish more opinions were voiced, but in a constructive and less "flamey" way.
but only selected points were taken, i suppose.
Or because the context doesn't matter because the decision to make them even more visually different by adding ridiculous clothes to their design wasn't an artistic choice, but one made to sell more toys.
see, that can't be a valid point, because we dont know if it was artistic or not. sure, you can shoot me a "come on" glare and insinuate something along the lines of "how can this NOT be a decision made out of anything other than the want for more cash?" but the fact is YOU DONT KNOW.
fine, dont like the more humanoid faces of the turtles...okay, but i think the idea that since the turtles were gonna be more human-faced, the producers made a call and thought, "it might be weird to see these very human looking creatures running around pantless."
that seems to be a more-level headed and rational conclusion than a simple "they're greedy fncks!" conclusion.
and also, if your whole "them not wearing clothes for 30 years and its worked" argument is really valid, how is your "they made them wear clothes to sell more toys" one valid?
Yep, a huge hit of a cartoon with characters recognizably and faithfully adapted with MINOR, insignificant changes to design(some that are even good) and a very popular comic series with lore(that I'm not really a fan of, but whatever) added to the already existing, slightly modified origin as well as characters, once again, faithfully and recognizably adapted is stagnation.
but isn't this what you say is exactly NOT happening?
Stagnation happens when sh*t is produced and the product falls out of the public eye. Just like the Batman film franchise. Nearly dead because of two crappy movies.
how did batman become stagnant? no more movies were made, true, but that franchise thrived in animation, video games and the solid comic book run thats lasted 75 years.
can you say tmnt 3 and the next mutation?
Yep, stating your claim as false is deflecting.
well, stating the claim is false doesnt mean it was false and you focused on the semantics of word definition vs word definition as opposed to addressing my actual point, so...
... come on, was that really necessary? Did I do something terrible by asking you to be sensitive to other people's feelings? I don't want to start sh*t, I wasn't trying to mess with you by calling you out on what you said, and I'm not asking everyone to tippy-toe around on PC shoes and type everything with kid gloves
but you are...
I just didn't think that it was a nice thing to use blindness as an insult when we have a blind member on the forums.

I don't think its so much that people are nitpicking but more that they are looking at the same details as confirmations of the things they're afraid they'll be getting. If you're worried the turtles are going to end up being hulking superstrong monstrosity's bricks breaking under leos weight probably won't be a good sign to you. If you're worried megan fox's acting will suck and she only got this job because shes a sex symbol then one of the first images being her jumping on a trampoline wearing tights will probably rub you the wrong way. its small stuff and it can easily be taken out of context but people just want to know what they should expect. no ones wants to get their hopes up for a letdown if they can help it. personally I blame the marketing because they without a doubt could be doing a better job of of managing peoples concerns. they know there's backlash and negativity and they're kind of just letting it fester.
fair enough, but again its not the voicing of the opinions or concerns that i find troubling. it's the way they're posed.
ZODIAC-you need to chill, I'm stoked for this movie, I took the day off from work to go and see it, but at first glance, Kid Raph looks like he's wearing children's underwear. It is what it is.
my point regarding this, specifically, is that there have been clearer pictures posted that show what it is. and, again, even after those pics were posted, there were posters who seemingly ignored it and continued on fanning the flames of what they thought it was before it was disproven in a way that was just unnecessarily negative and hostile.
all in all, im just tired of coming on here and having to wade through all this crap.
sure, make another point about how i dont HAVE to read or respond, but again...this is the technodrome tmnt movie forum. why else would i wanna go anywhere else to have a discussion about this movie...

I don't think the original suits look like animals... at all. I think they look like a good live action version of the cartoon.. the only part of those old suits that I would welcome back in a new modern film would be the shell. The shell was my favorite part of the old suits.

Hold on there, TMNT was number one and Warner Bros. barley promoted that movie. There's interest and Paramount want another big hit post Transformers. And let's be real here with all that hype behind Guardians of Whatever is getting kids and open minded older fans will probably make the difference for the turtles.

if this is true than any marine biologist would tell them that the tmnt would actually be infant and not teens as the line more or less always go's "4 baby turtles"
as you stated turtle grow at a different pace, a 50 year old turtle could very well still be a "teen"

It's true seat turtles can take up to 50 years to mature, like green Sea Turtles, while Hawksbills also a sea turtle matures within 3 years. Fresh water turtles usually have 10 years as a general rule. And it's not about age, but about the size of their shell that determine they are mature.
A Red-Eared Slider can be mature at the age of 2, while other RES are mature by the age of 7. But disregardless of maturity, the Ninja Turtles will always be teenagers within the human concept as along as they are within the teenage years, thirteen to nineteen.

It's really funny that, as much as everyone thinks they know, they just don't.
Fellowchucker, Puddinpop:
The argument that a Marine Biologist said xyz is pure folly. Had it been the opinion of a Zoologist, or Herpetologist, I would take the information more seriously. A Marine biologists are not experts on turtles. It isn't within the purview of their research.
This movie can't even do it's own research properly.
RES live for up to 35 years in the wild, less in captivity (more like 10-15)
They are not Teenage Mutant Ninja Tortoises. a Tortoise lives on land. a Tortoise is not a Turtle anymore than a Chihuahua is a Wolf. So, suggesting that DD are going with "land turtles" (what ever the f*ck that means), is an incredibly asinine statement. Two different families, unless you're Australian, in which case, the distinction is less defined, (though that's a colloquial interpretation, not scientific).
Just to be clear, I'm not bashing those that are excited for the film, but simply pointing out the errors of the arguments posted. Your assertions are misguided, or flat out false in most cases.
That being said, I'm happy for you that you are excited. That's great. No snarky-ness there. Just try to understand that I, and many others, are not. We all have different reasons for the why, and most of us do not agree on those even, which is to say that ANY design would have left some "hating" the production design choices.

That's one of the reasons I prefer the Yoshi = Splinter version of the story. But the primary reason is, I can't for the life of me, accept that a rat was able to learn ninjitsu so well by watching his owner practice. And on top of that, Splinter was a ninja master. How many years of training, and I mean real training, does it take to become a ninja master, sufficiently proficient in a number of weapons that you can teach 4 students?
Magic alien goo doesn't hurt my suspension of disbelief anywhere near as much as Splinter being a normal house rat that prior to mutation was able to achieve master level training in ninjitsu.
Having Splinter being a mutated Yoshi has always made much more sense to me.

Although I agree with you here, if Splinter is simply Yoshi, then the revenge cycle loses a generation. I prefer the Tang Shen assault >Yoshi Kills Nagi>Saki Kills Yoshi and Shen>Splinter sends the Turtles to kill Saki.
The widening cycle of revenge is, in my opinion, the most important theme throughout TMNT, and once you remove any of the players, it loses some of it's virulence.
But on the other hand, the timeline doesn't work in the real world with a rats true life span.

Which IMO was actually a dumb change made by Bay, in pursuit of fan boy approval.
Think about it, when I talk about the turtles. I don't say TMNT, or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
I simple say "ninja turtles" ... it goes without saying by this point that they're always considered teens.
Plus "Ninja Turtles" isn't a re-tread of the 90's franchise. From a branding perspective it more clearly defines it from the previous version.
It doesn't piss me off, but I definitely think "Ninja Turtles" was the way to go. Man of Steel wasn't called "Superman", and the reboot for Batman Begins wasn't called "Batman" ... Sony added "Amazing" to the title for the reboot of that franchise.
I know.. and I agree. But it's Bay we're talkin here.. if he did those reboots people would say " MAN OF STEEL?? SO HE"S NOT SUPER ANYMORE? AND WHATS THIS DARK KNIGHT? HE"S BATMAN NOT A KNIGHT!!! WHAT.. IS HE GONNA RIDE A HORSE NOW?" and I think from a marketing stand point they should have stuck with Ninja Turtles.. Changing it back was strictly a publicity stunt to calm fears.
Indeed. This is one of the things I agree with him on. The change from Ninja Turtles back to TMNT was an attempt to appease fans who were spooked by the prospect of Alien Turtles. It was pointless.
I agree Jester.. and it still didn't do much.. bc now some are even upset with the fact that the "Teenage Mutant" is smaller than the " Ninja Turtles".. It's UNBELIEVABLE... It was pointless and a waste of time and money..
It has ALWAYS been this way. this is the kind of thing I am talking about when I refer to the "Nit picking". It's not saying " stop complaining you don't have the right to.." that's just as ridiculous... BUT it's saying
" why the hell is that a problem now and why spend so much time on it like it's an actual problem"

What about just TURTLES in big font? At least PD made NINJA big lol. Some don't even mention the " Teenage Mutant" part.. So why now? is it bc they changed it back to make you guys happy? is this is your way of saying " nope.. not good enough Bay.. we will NEVAARRR be happy"? So what if that part is smaller, it means nothing.. I....just....don't...............get it.

To be honest I haven't really cared about the title font for a long time regardless on series.
Just give me the classic if not its just gonna be meh in that area.

in my opinion. I think, visually the movie logo looks better without the tacked on Teenage Mutant. it should have just stayed that way, or if they suddenly wanted the full title again, use the previous logo they had at the beginning of the production, the it was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
But, it would have been too late re-using the old logo when all the toys and merchandise are using the new logo.

But apparently Splinter was not a "regular" rat. That's what I remember from the TMNT RPG book...
Yeah, but sadly (as far as I know) they never for around to explain it.
Maybe Splinter is a Giant Pouched Rat.They can live for 8 years plus they are trained to be bomb detectors which makes sense when it comes to the rat learning some Ninjitsu.

I agree.. I think they should have just kept it. I love this logo but even having the old logo would have been cool.

It is an intriguing possibility of having these Turtles being adults, with the movie having flashbacks and backstories about how they developed their personalities--
...
...Oh wait, I forgot this is a Liebesman and Bay film. So I highly doubt there's going to be any type of profound journey of character development with these Turtles, except for some melodrama moments with a petulant Raphael in the forefront probably. I mean these two are noted for flashy action movies for an audience who doesn't have the patience for character development.
If the movie was in the hands of more critically praised producers and directors, I would have been genuinely intrigued with this possible development. Then again, so many things would have been different with this movie, in that hypothetical case.

Agreed - I think there are enough grounds for legitimate criticism of this movie, the title art is a bit of a non-issue for me.
I do understand why some people might have the knee-jerk reaction of wanting to be negative about absolutely everything to do with this movie - because Bay is a very controversial filmmaker. People either love him or hate him - very few people are neutral on the subject of Bay. The fact that Bay's associated with this project in any way was always bound to draw a lot of negativity towards the movie, regardless of what they did.
As the saying goes, nothing brings people together like mutual hatred. I can't help but think that there might be a bit less negativity towards the movie if Bay hadn't been attached in the first place. Not saying that some of the criticisms aren't very legitimate, and some of the negativity can indeed be over the top in regards to some issues (eg. Fox not having red hair)... as I said, I just think it's a byproduct of Bay being part of the picture. It was never not going to turn out that way, IMO.
Just my two cents. :)

I won't speak for everyone, but i would be LESS worried about the film if Bay and Liebesman weren't attached to it. I'm not a fan of ANY of their works, nor ANY of the works that PD has put out. Liebesman's directing style is pretty vapid and "flavor of the week", and Bay is known to focus on style over substance (there's a reason the term "Baysplosions" has been coined), and PD has been the "Brand Name" horror franchise studio version of Full Moon Productions from the 90s. So, for me, I was soured from the start....and looking for something, ANYTHING to calm my fears and prove my gut instincts wrong. Unfortunately, in my opinion from what i've seen, it's only gotten WORSE than what i had imagined.
It's like "G.I.Joe: Rise of Cobra" all over again, for me.

I was a fan of bay, as I've said in many past posts, as I felt he managed to revive transformers, and though different, it was exciting. but most of what made it so visceral had much to do with the never before seen effects of giant robots transforming before your eyes. It was at the time, a benchmark.
I had high hopes that he would have taken a realistic approach to TMNT, as he did with the designs in TF. No Optimus and Bumblebee didn't look like their 80's cartoon counterparts, but for me, it sort of worked, because it looked so damned real.
Flash forward to TF4, and I couldn't care less. The film looks boring, The designs are the worst of the series, and I can't stand Wahlburger as an actor. I actually prefer Shia, which is saying something.
On the flip side, is TMNT. Maybe it's because Liebesman is at the helm, maybe not, but there isn't any "wow" to the trailer. Maybe it's because CG is old news, maybe it's because the trailer is sporadic. I really can't say, but It just looks boring.
The point is, I was really looking forward to it - and little by little, my expectations were chipped away. And I'm not alone.
Lot's of us are hating the film for different reasons, true, so how can that be a good sign? There are a handful of loud, obnoxious cheerleaders who've descended onto the forum, seemingly to turn the majorities opinions that, up until recently were overwhelmingly negative.
Some of these jack a$$'s have even started posting that anyone who isn't in love with this garbage is a "fake fan".
I'm really sick of the propaganda, and it needs to stop.

Quite agree. After all the comments I've read spread around the internet there are people on both sides who are being equally very obnoxious.
Between people who's childhoods are apparently utterly "destroyed" to those who are acting as if this is "infallible TMNT movie Jesus" of which no one is allowed to say anything wrong or opposing... Good grief.
As I commented in another thread, there are so many different complaint camps out there now, there seems to be a flavor for everyone except those who are looking at it blindly/overly forgivingly.
I do have my angle of dislike, and unfortunately for me it's kind of a biggie, sadly enough that it turns me off from it. But I feel I've gotten in my say a bit elsewhere online, out of my system enough to settle down with it at this point and just discuss things civilly if others will as well.
It makes me sad that I can't be all up into this the way I wish I could be, and I don't wan to be middle age by the time another comes along that gets me there, but... my childhood is intact and this will pass.

I won't hear a word said against the geniuses who brought us Gingerdead Man! Honestly, I like a lot of Full Moon stuff - it fits into the "so bad it's good" category for me.

This. So much this. There's nothing wrong with making tongue-in-cheek jokes about the movie - lord knows I've made a few lighthearted jests about it. I think you need to be able to laugh about stuff in order to keep some perspective - and not just with this movie, but with life in general. But the second someone busts out the "Bay raped my childhood" line is the second I want to slap them. Likewise, the "Bay is a real man, haters are f*gs" contingent are also lining up for a slapping.
Like I've always said - nobody's mind has ever been changed by an argument over the internet, so there's not much point getting aggressive about it.

Not to derail the thread- back to its original point- but my first thought when seeing the little Raph was this: BOXING SHORTS! No, really. They look like the shorts Rocky wore in the first movie. And Raph DOES enjoy boxing, doesn't he? I didn't see tightie whities, nor an over-long shirt. I saw a tank and boxing shorts. Just my two coppers.....

Boxing shorts, I'd be ok with. I mean, they could be anything, I don't think these figures are particularly high in quality (no offense to those who like them!), so it's hard to accurately tell what the heck he's really wearing.

Back to the actual thread.
I think you guys are all forgetting the figures are boxed as "Ninja Turtle" figures, after the original movie title.
Since the movie title has been changed, the figures were already created, boxed, and shipped. This means that anything in the boxes is outdated. They are probably going to update the package inserts to show the turtle evolution as "turtles, tweens:roll:, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
