View Full Version : Is anyone considering seeing the new movie in 3D?
For those of you who've decided that you are going to see the new movie when it comes out, do you think you'd want to see it in 3D, or just as it is? I'm not sure if I would.
Apparently these will be the glasses for the film. I thought it was a cool idea

I'll be seeing this movie twice. Once regular, on opening day. Once 3D IMAX (although only if it's at the local IMAX theater - I'm not driving up to the Bay Area for this).
I actually dislike 3D and always avoid it, but I figure I might as well for this one.

I would if this looked at all like a good movie if only for the glasses, because that's a great idea.
Last movie I saw in 3D though was Jackass 3D so that gives you an idea on how often I see movies in 3D.

Did you see Gravity in 3D? That movie basically invented a movie genre meant for 3D IMO.
I think it'll be a fun enhancement for the TMNT...and I wish I was "hip". :D

Not if it wasn't shot in native 3D. I do want a pair of the Leo glasses though.Same. I only care to see a movie in 3D if it was conceived in 3D. However, Gravity and Guardians of the Galaxy (http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/guardians-galaxy-will-shifting-aspect-ratios-imax-3d/) were actually post-converted, but the directors shot them for 3D, from the beginning. Post-conversion's come a long way, when done well. Captain America: The Winter Soldier still got blurry in the night scenes.
I'm sure I'll see TMNT in 3D IMAX, with friends, on opening weekend. But I'll be seeing it in 2D at the earliest available showing.

But I'm REALLY hoping that they release this in IMAX. That is the ideal way to see this film for me anyway. But I will be seeing it in both. : )

How can you not see this movie in 3D given the chance?
It's the TMNTs for crying out loud.
It's true a lot of films that are upgraded to be shown in 3D aren't worth it, but thisn't just any movie. If this is just 'any movie' to you then I can see why you wouldn't bother.
Besides, it's probably fair to say that this movie is going to awesome one way or another. And how many of you out there are only going to see this movie once? seriously?
I plan to see this in 3D at least twice (with my partner) and at least one regular session. That way if there are any future releases in 3D truly worth it I can choose from any of the 4 turtles 3d glasses to wear. That's not my sole reason of course, I really want to enjoy this film on the big screen amap. I've seen some films multiple times at the cinemas because I really enjoyed them. I don't think I'll break my record of 13 sessions of the phantom menace with the new tmnt film, but who knows. Having watched films in 3D and imax at the same time is the only way to go to get the best experience from the films I've seen there compared with the regular cinema screenings. TMNT in 3D will not be for everyone, but I certianly recommend it if you can.

I usually only see a movie in 3D if it was shot using 3D cameras or if it's a CGI animated film. Those are the two best ways to ensure the 3D looks good.
When they shoot the film in 2D and then convert it to 3D later... it often does not work out so well because the film was not conceived to be seen in 3D. Not only that, but the quality of the conversion is sometimes very bad, with some of the worst offenders showing strange outlines around the 3D alterations. I've seen this as recently as with Wrath of the Titans.
TMNT 2014 is a 3D conversion.
However, if you do go see it in 3D you can get a pair of these glasses:

I barely watch any movies 3D because of my pesky ordinary glasses. Sitting with two pair of heavy glasses for almost two hours is really painful for the nose bridge.
But those coloured 3D glasses do look pretty cool so I might reconsider... Doubt they will show up in my theater tho

I think 3D is just a gimmick to extract more money from the ticket price. It makes films look darker often times and gives me a migraine.

If that's so, it sucks. And I'm not interested to pay extra import fees to have a pair of 3-D glasses.
But I do see that have clip-on 3-D glasses for those who already use glasses, that's neat.
My fiancee and I see 3d movies at the Alamo Drafthouse quite a bit only because of show times. Of all the shows we have been to, there has only been once where we have seen special 3d glasses, and that was for Desolation of Smaug. The only difference was they were blue and the Hobbit was printed on the side. At the end of the movie all the glasses get recycled to be cleaned and repackaged. I highly doubt special 3D glasses would be included to keep with the price of admission. That's just my opinion
Candy Kappa

What's nice where I live is that we don't hand back the 3-D glasses for recycling, which I find is a good thing after hearing on a podcast, they discussed a report that was about recycled 3-D glasses and all the crap (literally) was on them after being pre-used.
we can also buy the glasses without seeing a movie in 3-D. I bought the Despicable Me 2 3-D goggles without buying a ticket for the 3-D screening.

I'll go ahead and say no, absolutely not.
I'm willing to say the movie will have nothing worth paying the extra money for 3D, honestly. To me, from my experience, very few movies actually do warrant it. I've yet to feel like I'm losing out when I watch a non-3D blu ray at home after seeing it in 3D in theaters.
I'm ready for 3D to go away....
Now the question is....how do I get my hands on Leo 3D glasses without seeing TMNT in 3D >_>

If I can choose between 2D and 3D, I prefer the 2D one. But a lot of movies I wanted to see in the past here in Belgium where only in 3D. So I'll just have to wait and see.

that said, the manager of the theater also pretty much confirmed the bandana 3d glasses would be available to purchase without HAVING to buy a 3d ticket, which is what i'll be doing.
Very interesting, ty!
Now how to tell if a theater is real 3D or not...

I'm only seeing it if my theater will have the special bandanna glasses. If they let me purchase those separately, then I'll just do that and see the movie normally.

Yeah I will try to score a set of the glasses if I can. I probably won't see it in 3D unless I'm forced to to get a pair of the glasses :)
I don't care about the glasses *too* much but if the theater I'm going to has them, it would be hard for me to not at least try to get them somehow.

Considering I now get to see the movie for free (up to $13 in value), I think I may see this in 3D. :tgrin:
Totally not bragging.

You're making me want to run to Walmart right now to see if they have the soda...
I called my local theater before to ask about the glasses. It was some lady on the phone, and I asked if they would have the special glasses for Transformers, because I figured that if they had those, they'd get the TMNT ones too. She asked the manager and he said they're not getting those, as they would've been told in advance. I asked if they ever get ANY special glasses in for other movies, and she said she never saw any, just the normal ones. Looks like I might have travel a little to go to another theater and get 'em.

I'm going to see it for sure. Gonna take my 3 year old son to see it, it'll be his first trip to the theater.

Please don't. I can't tell you how many times a 3 year old has ruined my theater experience. But the website turtlereveal.com reveals that the movie will be releasing in IMAX 3D, so I'll be sure to see it like that because I have an IMAX theater 5 minutes from my house, and I love it. I can't wait to see the heroes in a half shell kicking a$$ on a screen that huge.
I want to but i'm not sure I should go see 3D on the first viewing or the second?
What would you Dromers do?
