I just noticed in the cast listing on IMDB that there are characters call Hara-kiri soldiers separate from the "foot soldiers". I looked up harakiri or Hara-kiri and it appears to be another word for seppuku aka suicide but also under disambiguation it's also a term for a protein encoded in a human gene. Specifically having to do with cellular death within multicellular organisms.
I wonder what these soldiers are for? Maybe soldiers doing work with the mutagen or soldiers willing to die for Shredder?

I noticed this aswell just the other day. Searched it on google and saw a load of dudes shoving swords through their guts!....pretty awsome but doupt we'll see that sort of detail in the film lol
Still nice to know that the gun weilding foot soldiers weve seen may not be the only kind of 'foot' (if that makes sense) :P

There was a tweet from a foot soldier awhile back mentioning how one of the foot commits suppuku or harakiri in front of the shredder. Mystery solved.

I'm glad someone knew what it meant. I hope that means some of the foot carry tanto, wakizashi or katanas but every scene with foot in it only seems to show assault rifles, and some sort of lasso pole.

I've got a feeling this movie is going to have some dark moments. I doubt it would ever happen.. wouldn't it be kinda cool to have a Foot soldier walk into Shredders lair and disembowel himself in front of Shredder in a ritualistic fashion as a sacrifice to Krang? lol.. I know I know wayyyy too dark for a TMNT movie..
But this is what it says for Seppuku
Seppuku (切腹?, "stomach-cutting") is a form of Japanese ritual suicide by disembowelment. Seppuku was originally reserved only for samurai.[1] Part of the samurai bushido honour code, seppuku was either used voluntarily by samurai to die with honor rather than fall into the hands of their enemies (and likely suffer torture), or as a form of capital punishment for samurai who had committed serious offenses, or performed for other reasons that had brought shame to them. The ceremonial disembowelment, which is usually part of a more elaborate ritual and performed in front of spectators, consists of plunging a short blade, traditionally a tantō, into the abdomen and moving the blade from left to right in a slicing motion.
Maybe there are little Krangs in some of the Foot soldiers stomachs.. who knows..
Okay.. I'm done reading into all of this

Didn't that guy also confirm that his scene wasn't going to be used? I'm pretty sure I remember someone posting that.

Honorable suicide
Yes honorable suicide to prevent falling into enemy hands or as punishment for committing a crime. I was just trying to give a simple answer.

Yes, Seppuku and Harakiri is the same thing, written the same way as well. But you usually don't say "harakiri" as it's regarded as a vulgar wording. Therefore we say seppuku.

Perhaps he orders a small elite group that "know" too much to do it if they are about to be caught.

It has the potential to be interesting - and would be a good way to incorporate some more Japanese elements into the story, if it were done right.

I'd have to agree, a suicide no matter how you spin it or for what reason seems a little too dark for this film...or most films, lol, especially based off a property associated with NICK, which, if we're honest, is generally perceived as a children's brand.
Will I personally be upset if the scene is included, nope, it adds layers IMO, but I'd be shocked they were that ballsy, especially if they are shooting for a pg to pg-13 rating, as most comic book movies do, these days.

KM not really trying to compare it but "The wolverine" Had Seppuku in it, it wasn't to dark just culturally accepted

the tone of the wolverine is such a different tone from what the turtles will most likely be.
