Now that the new trailer was released did it change your mind or thoughts about the movie?
Nah. I was excited about the movie, anyway, only more now.

To be honest, somewhat. I've been sternly opposed to the film based on what we'd seen, but now, it's really just the designs I don't like. But, I can get over that if it's still a good TMNT movie. I like that they went ahead and revealed who we can just assume is Oroku Saki.
The biggest thing for me here is that I'm now excited to take my daughter to see this, whereas before I thought she wasn't going to get the Turtles she adores from the Nick series. There are definitely Nick influences here, especially with Mikey's personality and Saki's appearance.

Not much. There are still some issues that I have with this movie. But the new trailer is the best one so far.

Believe it or not, the new trailer made me less excited for the movie; or rather, less hopeful about it than I already was.
The voices were pretty awful, and the jokes worse. People say 2K3 Mikey was bad; after this movie comes out I think this version of Mikey will be considered the worst incarnation.
I think because up to this point the studio didn't really show much footage of the turtles, I had some inkling of hope that the TMNT would actually be tolerable as characters, but apparently not. Mikey seems like an unfunny dolt, Raph an idiot who's powered by sheer, sheer rage, and I guess Leo was fine. Donny of course got no screen time during the trailer because everyone likes to screw him over, so I have no idea how he'll be.
I guess it's nice that they'll be some sort of Asian Shredder, but isn't it still odd how Oroku Saki sounds way too much like Erich Sachs? I still think Sachs will end up being the Shredder.
Overall I'm not excited by this film, still. I kind of hoped this trailer could change that, but unfortunately not.

I've always been excited about this movie from the start, regardless of how well it does or if it bombs. There's still a lot of elements I really don't like in this movie (ex: having a white person play Shredder etc.), but this trailer has me more pumped to see it. Bring it on.

Great action, slight plot reveal, silhouette of (who is likely to be) Oroku Saki. I'm looking forward to the movie.
But these turtles will always be cited by me as "Bay's Quasimodos."

But after the trailer I would say I am more excited for sure.

This trailer actually feels like a Ninja Turtles movie. The other trailers were ok but really didn't show off the fun factor, the silliness, or the comedy. This one had a perfect balance of all. I like how Raphael still has his thick New York accent and Knoxville actually sounds like Leonardo! I'm still curious what exactly causes all of the destruction (please be Technodrome) and how exactly Splinter ties into the Shredder.

I thought that the trailer was great, and I loved all of the interaction between the Turtles. I'm still getting used to the character designs, but that will grow on me. What bothered me was the dubstep music..
Please, please, PLEASE don't let the soundtrack be dubstep.

Yes! For the first time, I'm truly excited. I can't wait for August!
Nope. Still not liking what I'm seeing at all. And I will explain why. (Let's please not have any bickering about it, though?)
I've made it pretty clear already what I think makes the TMNT "work", and why making them gigantic and superhumanly strong, and making the Shredder into a giant mech-suit, completely misses the point of the concept, the characters, and the tone of the entire franchise. And I stand by that. That was my main concern, and this trailer did absolutely nothing to put those fears to rest.
To me, the Turtles look like ugly, 'roided-out Hulk monsters. They're throwing people around like rag dolls, meaning they're so over-powered that there's not much that poses a legitimate threat to them. "Regular" ninjas or enemies aren't a match for them at all. That removes a lot of the tension and stakes immediately, which I find way more important than over-the-top superhero action scenes. And I've said it before, but: the Shredder is a huge mech-suit because he needs to be in order to fight the giant Turtles, who are giant and super-strong so they can fight the Mecha-Shredder. The logic seems to be "bigger is better" across the board - everything has to be big and explosive and "badass" at all times. And that kind of thing doesn't do much for me at all.
Oh, and I find the visual/directing style totally obnoxious. That too.
These are just my opinions. People like what they like and that's fine. But I definitely feel that this, and Transformers, are giving audiences what's basically Michael Bay's Generic Explosions-Based Action Movie over and over again, with the same basic "character" archetypes, visual style and manner of action set-pieces, with whatever property he's gobbled up sledgehammered into that framework like a square peg into a round hole.
And it's frustrating (for me personally) that in doing so, they often toss aside the actual spirit, tone, style, message, etc. of the source material that actually makes it memorable and worthwhile. The more successful that method is, the more likely we're just gonna get Michael Bay Action Movie #78 with a nostalgic-property's name slapped on it, instead of something that actually has legitimate care and effort put into representing that property at its best.

Still absolutely hate Megan Fox as April, & her "acting" in this trailer only worsens that feeling, but I have to admit I've got a bit more faith now. The designs still have a lot of flaws but they're considerably better looking than the absolutely terrible promotional art they've been using. I never doubted the film would look good, & it certainly delivers on a visual level. Lots to see, very detailed & vibrant, fast paced, shiny, etc. While I think this new concept of Shredder is 100% bullcrap, I will say he's definitely imposing, & looks cool in action. I can appreciate the design & idea behind it, but it just doesn't sit right with me, or feel like it belongs with the turtles. These turtles, maybe, but eh... I'm very interested in who the shadowy figure Sachs was talking to is, though! Saki? Tatsu? Gives some credit to the theory that Sachs is Chunin to a bigger & badder fella, like the original Shredder or whatever. We'll see, I guess. Dubstep sucks. Figured they'd use it. Meh. Action looks cool, & I really dig the voices. Knoxville, to me, is a surprisingly good fit as Leonardo. It suits the design, to say the least.
So overall I'm still unhappy with Fox, new Shredder, over-complicated designs, high-tech everything, & dubstep, but I've got some new excitement nonetheless. Despite my being vocally against most creative decisions behind this film, I said from day one that I would still be able to find some merit in it. So I don't want anybody trying to say I've changed my tune. :trazz:
I agree with the below whole-heartedly, just the same.

True, but the '87 series also made many drastic changes (I definitely don't think it kept the spirit and tone of the comics), and this one looks to be a product of its time, much like the '87 series. And although I am not a big fan of that series, many other people love it, and it's their favourite version.

Yes and no. I still hate Megan Fox as April and Silver Samurai on crack version of Shredder, but I think they're at the very least getting the characterization of the turtles right (from what I can gather) and the action seems to be pretty intense and fun.
It still has the potential to be a terrible movie (hopefully it won't be), but at the very least, it won't be boring.

I think my opinion of this movie has changed over time, at first I was vehemently opposed to it. Over time, i mellowed, not due to fondness towards anything the marketing was showing, but more so because I accepted that it was going to happen and my complaining wouldn't change it... so whatever. I always intended to see it, just on a Sunday (which where I live means 5 dollar tickets) and not on an opening weekend. This trailer didn't so much change my opinion, but it makes me slightly more hopeful that there will be at least some aspects of the movie that I may not be complaining about while watching it. Though, I still do not like the turtle designs, especially not the faces... they just look bad.

Not really. All a blockbuster's trailer can show these days are just little eyecandy and some bad onliners, so basically, I only saw iw again, how bad these movie character designs are, and how bad actor Megan Fox still is.

Yeah true. It kinda bugged me when Will Arnett said "robot Samurai." There doesn't seem to be much of a ninja aspect to The Shredder seeing as he's fully samurai in this flick. But he definitely looks f*ckin badass in motion.
I'm very interested in who the shadowy figure Sachs was talking to is, though! Saki? Tatsu? Gives some credit to the theory that Sachs is Chunin to a bigger & badder fella, like the original Shredder or whatever.

Yeah, I was pretty shocked in a good way. His voice performance does seem to suit this version of Leonardo pretty well. One part of this trailer that convinced me of that was when he threatened April saying "If you do, we will find you."

Hasn't changed my mind really any. I was already figuring I'd eventually see it at some point, outside the theater. Good to see more of the Turtles, and Leo esp nice to actually see/hear him speak... but this movie isn't gonna win me over to the maker's design choices. If only they'd gone about it a bit differently I'd probably be jumping up and down with most of the rest of you. But I'm not, makes me kinda sad that I'm not, but... it is what it is I suppose.
They don't feel turtle enough to me and I have my own thoughts how that might have been better achieved by a different style of tweaks, but people would prob flip if I were to voice it. Just wish it wasn't too late to be part of their damn design team... lol
As I said in that other thread, I think my main fear really is over the chance that this particular style of model choices could mark itself as the only acceptable version of "realistic" to the point that something else someday that's a little more recognizable but also given super realistic textures and motion suddenly isn't acceptable. I really hope not.
I'll see it eventually, prob when available on demand. And I'll still side with my fave Leo... even if he doesn't look Leo enough to me. At least they gave him cool armor and nice eyes.

Why take it that personally though. Everyone here are Turtles fans, big enough to be here on a forum and passionate enough about it to bother forming an opinion. For anyone to expect only like minded comments is to expect others to be a source of fuel to make them feel pumped about it or sided with... but people aren't fuel.
I don't discredit others for liking what they see. Heck, the vast majority of it I'm actually perfectly fine with. I'd have even been totally fine the minor things that some of the big supporters of it flipped out over themselves - a shortened title; a suggestion that they weren't teens.
I don't expect this to be a place that only agrees with my views on what I do or don't like. Overboard levels of negativity and overblown levels of enthusiasm can be equally annoying.
But I like discussing this stuff and hearing the opinions and thoughts of others, so I'm not about to go stomping off like Raph... I might miss something.

Newp. Just more of what I've already seen and not liked. Bry summed up my feelings pretty well. It's fine, I guess. Everything I love eventually lets me down. I hated "Superman IV." I still can't even sit through "Batman & Robin." And even the almighty Hulkster made "3 Ninjas: High Noon At Mega Mountain", the sole blemish on an otherwise-flawless film career. This movie was bound to happen eventually.
Frankly, I'm long past the point where I can fully enjoy "shut your brain off and have fun with it" movies. I've never had an easy time with that whole concept, anyway, because movies are expensive and there's simply no excuse not to try and make a product everyone can enjoy. This project obviously has a lot of things in it that were done solely to "mess with" the fanbase, and I don't think that's ever a smart idea.
So, no, my mind hasn't changed, and honestly, I don't think this movie can do that. It would have to be, literally, an entirely different movie than what we've seen so far, and that's not happening. It's whatever. Years from now when people are sick of the "just dumb fun" version of TMNT, someone will come along and do a more grounded version, and maybe I'll like that one. Or not. I'unno.

From the initial announcement, the first glimpse of the turtles (outside of the Halloween costume debacle lol), the stills, the first trailer.. I've been behind this from day one simply because Im biased to TMNT (prob not the most logical reasoning I know).

I caved and watched the new trailer just now.
Oh my god it was horrendous. I didn't understand a damn thing that was going on, and as soon as the ear-bleeding music kicked in I regretted making this decision.
Gonna need to pour some bleach into my eye sockets to repair this one.

And although I am not a big fan of that series, many other people love it, and it's their favourite version.
It took things in a more comedic direction, for sure. And I agree with you in that it's not my preferred version, and I think there's a reason something closer to the Mirage versions of these characters has persisted more than the '87 versions over the years despite its massive popularity. But even then, I think a lot of the core elements/appeal were still there, and still felt "right" enough in a way that I'm not feeling from this movie.
Yeah, the shots look so off to me... kind of irritating.
It's that whole Bay house style. Liebesman was chosen for a reason, and that's really it - his style fits with Bay's. It's that whole overblown, high-contrast, heavily-filtered, kinda-shiny look to everything. And the "showy" camerawork that's covering up for a lack of basic storytelling skills. I feel like this movie is going to age really terribly, and in a way that the 1990 movie hasn't, based on the visual style and directing alone.
Years from now when people are sick of the "just dumb fun" version of TMNT, someone will come along and do a more grounded version, and maybe I'll like that one. Or not. I'unno.
Yeah, that's my hope too. These things are pretty cyclical. The campy '60s Batman begat the darker '89 movie, which begat Batman & Robin, which begat The Dark Knight. Eventually the returns will diminish on the BayTurtles, and maybe the next person to get a swing at the franchise will dive into some Mirage comics and do their best to emulate those.
Hopefully sooner than later, but I can be patient. :twink:

I'd settle for a version that mixed a little from all the others - as this one is apparently trying to do - but in a far less bombastic way. This is all just way too over the top for me and I'm getting way too much of a "Batman & Robin", "Everything AND the kitchen sink" vibe from it.
I wouldn't really like a straight-up Mirage riff. Mirage, frankly, bores me quite a bit, and the first movie is as close as I care to see them go to it.

Well hey, fair enough. And I actually kind of agree - I'd like mostly Mirage in there, but with some 2K3 and some Nick (and even a little '87) sprinkled in for flavour. Keep things fairly grounded, but light and fun when it should be, and serious/emotional when it should be. And for the love of all that's holy, get someone with good storytelling skills and the ability to exercise a bit of restraint to direct the thing.

Yep, it's changed my view a lot and I am stoked! It looks like it doesn't take itself too seriously and perfectly balances the campy fun that TMNT is associated with with badass action sequences.

Lots of people here are being positive about the movie, don't let those who disagree or can't seem to find much to like impact your enjoyment. Don't let it run you away, we actually need people here who DO like the film to help balance things out :)
I am leaning towards like. I agree with you about the childlike POV, if I were a kid and a fan of the Nick turtles I think that, even if I was like "wtf" at first sight of the designs, I would quickly find things to like about it... maybe even love.
I'm just going to enjoy everything. I'm glad to see the turtles on the big screen and in the spotlight again. I love seeing all the movie tie-ins and people talking about TMNT who normally wouldn't care much. I can almost recapture the feeling I had experiencing it all as a kid if I try hard enough and I love that!
I really like Black Nerd's approach to it, I agree with a lot of what he has to say. He comes from an older fan perspective, as do I and many here, but still finds a lot to dig and accepts that the film isn't being made to cater to hardcore fans, it's for the new generation of fans and that's perfectly okay!

Yeah, I feel like the basic initial idea was sound - take a little from each TMNT universe and mix it all together - but it's just too "in-your-face". There's a way to do it that's still "fun" while still having subtlety and restraint. Burton's "Batman" pulled it off, for example. It doesn't have to be Nolan's Batman or anything, but this thing looks like it's aimed entirely at 12-year-old kids with ADD. I just can't get into it.

Same here.
I'd have been happy with a film taking cues from Out Of The Shadows.
Y'know what? Yeah. If they had to go a more "realistic" route for the design (and, y'know, with nostrils), I would have much preferred those designs to the ones we got. MUCH preferred.

The trailer is obviously the best one we've gotten so far, and I'll admit, everything looks cool. Looks like we're in for some great action scenes and humor (I found Mikey's "we'll find you" line hilarious  ). Hopefully the subplot of Raph having to save the others won't drag on for too long, because I personally don't like when a TMNT movie focuses on one or two specific turtles...(which is why I really don't like TMNT '07). Megan Fox still doesn't seem like a good actress...(and to quote April from the Nick series) but hey, she's purty! I'm excited to see the film, and I'm not sold on the turtles' designs yet (I don't know if I EVER will...) but still, very excited. The trailer has given me a better view on the movie and I can gladly say that it HAS peaked my interest.

If only by a little. I was afraid that this was going to turn out to be one more of those Dark Knight wannabes, but this seems to be more along the lines of fun, action-heavy comic book movies, and I'm all over that.
This could have turned out to be another third TMNT movie and I still would've bought a ticket to the cinema anyway.

Admittedly if the Turtles looked more "normal" and Shredder was Japanese from the start the movie would be a bit more tolerable.

There are still numerous things that I hate about it, but I think there are going to be bits that I can enjoy on some level. I mean, I'm still in a good enough mood after watching the trailer that I've celebrated by wearing a Turtles shirt work...
I feel that it's going to be Turtles Lite, put it that way. There are things that I don't like. Numerous things actually. The list of things I don't like is actually still longer than the list of things I do like. But I'm not as convinced that it'll be a suckfest from start to finish as I was, and I'm not nerd-raging over the stuff that I don't like.
I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't happy to see new Turtles in any form, even massively ugly forms that throw people through subway windows.

Well, personally speaking... The majority of it is, to me, fine/tolerable. I like Leo's gear... call it breadsticks all you want, "haters." :P He's got perrty eyes. Surprisingly yes, before this trailer (Even the poster reveals from last night) this movie was a simple meh. After the new trailer my interests have grown, seeing the turtles in action along with shredder.
Although my biggest fear remains that April and Vernon will be the main characters tagging along the turtles. Along the same lines that the transformers movies have given the humans more story and face time, making the turtles (transformers) secondary characters in their own movie.

I think showing those posters was a bad idea, the turtles themselves don't really look the same in comparison to the posters and in the trailers. Its like two different versions are being shown.
I'm the same, the posters greatly disappointed me. But the trailer has gotten me excited enough again to want to see this.

Whoopi Goldberg would actually be the PERFECT advocate for this movie, if you've ever heard her talk about anything at all.

Most of the gym clientele between 11am and 1pm are ladies middle-aged and older, who tend to love gossipy chatterboxes and hate doing the treadmill, so it's actually a good fit. Well... Did not change my opinion of the models neck up.. I did "like" on YouTube but that was in large part to bookmark it. Curious still of this movie, but not in love with it as some seem to be.
Have to admit I'm a little torn.. I'd rather not to hand over my money to the makers of it, and at this point in time money is tight as it is, though it will be a test of patience to wait it out until it's available via other means. If the soda boxes gave away ticket... eh, I might have been tempted to go if it was on their dime.
For me this trailer helped a little and hurt a whole lot more. I am really worried that they have spoiled a lot of the movie with this trailer. Many of the things shown I would have rather experienced in the theater. Knowing the outcome of certain fights and things just makes me worry that now the I'll be sitting through the movie and will feel like, "oh yeah, I knew that was going to happen" all the way through.

I think that the Bay tropes we were all ragging on are going to be present since we've now seen footage of an explosion in the lair, and more tossing around rather than ninja buttkickery. *shrugs* Maybe they just mean that they're ninja in the sense that they use ninja weapons. (Which is more than we can say for the Foot, clearly. ).

I have a question. Throughout my years of being a TMNT fan, it always seems to paint that while the boys may have been trained as Ninjas, when they fight, Leo is known as the most skilled in Ninjitsu, and is most likely to use that mastery. With the others, Don has been mostly shown to use his brain and tech, Mikey his speed and using scenarios from his comic books to come up with plans, and Raphael is always known to be more of a brawler, than a true Ninja. So, is the movie really taking that much liberty with this kind of thing, when other incarnations have been guilty of it as well?

I don't really know enough about the actual rules of martial arts to be able to factually say "this isn't ninjitsu, that isn't ninjitsu", so everything I say should be taken with that in mind when I talk about the lack of ninja action. What I will say is that my perception is that this movie is taking liberties in a far more overt manner than we've really seen before. It's not that we've never had Turtles action where nobody ever got tossed - but I think other incarnations probably paid a bit more lip service to the ninja "spirit".
It was just a bit odd seeing Leo toss someone into the side of a subway instead of, I dunno, ninja-kicking the person into the side of a subway. Likewise, it's jarring to see Karai pointing a gun at someone when I'm used to seeing her use ninja moves.
It's not that it's bad, terrible, unforgivable et al. Or that it's good, great, wonderful. It is what it is, people's mileage will vary from person to person. But I do feel that it is different from what we've seen before. Which, to be fair, is pretty much what The Powers That Be have been saying all along.
Again though, this is just my analysis of what we've seen so far. If I'm proven wrong on some points after seeing the movie, I've got no qualms about admitting it. :)

I don't know anything about Ninjitsu either. But I just know, on more than one occasion when I get into arguments about Raphael vs Leo, I get a lot of "Raph's more a brawler than a Ninja, that's why he loses".
But either way, the semi ninja action doesn't really bother me. It's hardly what made me a fan of the Turtles.

06-24-2014, 08:37 PM

It appears to be a blend. The turtles still use their weapons, (that's "ninja action," by default), but at the same time, humans don't weigh too much.
Would I prefer more traditional martial arts? Perhaps. But I'll trade it in in a heartbeak, when it affords me wild, over-the-top action, like Turtles Vs Humvees, Mikey carrying around a rocket board, and Donnie deflecting bullets with a bo. Really isn't far off today's cartoon. They can dispatch Foot with one blow, too.

I thought the new trailer was epic, and I've been a staunch supporter of this movie since day one, however there were a few moments in the trailer that I thought were pretty bad and/or made me cringe.
First up when Leo says "Back off Raph". Cringe alert.
Second when Megan says the "They're Turtles" and then "They're Ninjas" lines. Awful.
Thirdly. The Dubstep really didn't fit with the rest of the trailer. Again pretty poor selection. As much as I "enjoy" Bangarang I hope there isn't any dubstep in this film.
A final thought, and this may have been mentioned already but I haven't had a chance (or the time) to scan over the forums for this. The alleged Oroku Saki character we see - is it me or does it look like he is dead or mummified? I believe Sachs is talking to a dead guy in a sarcophagus...just by the way Sachs is speaking to him I get the impression he is dead. Maybe Sachs is trying to resurrect Oroku Saki? Just a thought/theory...
Other then those 3 points above, I can't wait. Still gutted...GUTTED...we have to wait until October in the UK. Absolute joke!!

Slightly both for the good and bad, after viewing the second trailer, the voice acting for the Turtles was sooo bad. They made the Turtles so hard to have "supa fly" slang ("Let's Rock and Roll", "That's what I'm talkin' about!"), and I cracked up hearing Leo's "back off Raph!" line. That's was supposed to be threatening? And Don's bo deflecting bullets now? ROFL
On the positive side, I'm actually somewhat interested in seeing the Channel 6 news crew way more than the Turtles or Shredder.
...But otherwise it didn't change my opinion too much for the film. Seems like it will have the flashy, "bad ass" aesthetics that will overshadow whatever minimal character depth or plot the movie will have (analogous to a fast food meal having minimal nutritional content but loads of superficial taste); like a Bay-associated film would have and moviegoers apparently enjoy (according to the revenues).
Since we're talking crazy and outlandish action scenes (Don's bo deflecting bullets), maybe 2014 Mikey will pass gas and light it up to destroy whatever the Foot Clan are doing? Or maybe the prongs of Raph's sais can launch out like rockets and cause destruction? Besides, why is Don even wasting his time with a bo? Pssh, throw away that archaic piece of weaponry and grab a machine/laser gun!

The trailer hssn't changed my mind, and has made me more upset about the film. The Shredder is laughably ridiculous especially in the scene with the blades popping out is supposed to be the badass money shot. The action isn't impressive at all. It's just so disappointing that this is how they went about doing a big budget TMNT film.

Well, yes and no, but mostly yes. While this trailer hasn't completely sold me on the movie, it has given me the possibility that I won't HATE it. I like that moment at the end where April says "No, they're not Aliens, that would be stupid". It's brief, but it gives the impression that the movie has a sense of self awareness. Also, that moment where William Fichtner is talking to that guy in the shadows has me sort of intrigued.

The trailer was the best we've seen to now, but no. It did not change my mind, it still looks bad, the Character Models look terrible, not a fan of Megan's acting, not liking Leo and Splinter's voice.
But, the Trailer did make want to watch it on Netflix as soon as it hits the place, rather then catching it whenever I remember it.

All of my previous gripes still stand, but the trailer is fun and the Turtles mesh well in the kinds of things they are doing. the jokes were funny to. I willing to put my issues with the designs to the side and see it, It got me interested.

At this point I think we could potentially agree that to some degree, at some angle, most are a "hater"...
I liked Leo's "Back off, Raph," and staunch supporters cringe? Haters.. :P Just pulling chains a bit of course, but still...
I've never assumed this movie will be terrible, my only issue the entire time has been the looks of them.... Trailer makes it looks fun, ok, though I'm cautious about it since a well made trailer is supposed to appeal enough to make you want to see a movie. Now and then the trailer ends up being better than the thing itself, so.. Not sure that would be the case here, but we shall see. I just think acting like a 14 year old who just hugged Justine Beiber is a bit premature. (As is I guess, fairly speaking, acting like a 40 year old who just assumes a Beiber song will be crap... Although... lol)

The "Back off, Raph" is just a little too gravely for Leo. But then when he's speaking later on it sounds exactly like how I'd imagine Leo would sound. But it also sounds like it could almost be a different voice. So, I dunno, I'm kinda not sure what to think at this point. I'd have to hear more from the performance to see how his voice fluctuates.

Same here! It made me think maybe they are still tweaking the voice or something. I definitely don't think he says it when we hear it in the trailer. "Let's rock and roll" sounds so different, too.

I actually agree with you. The best kind of franchise film is for the fans AND for, as you would call them, "casuals". That's what's making the Marvel films so profitable - the guys behind them are comic book fans who also know how to make good movies.
The people behind this film are the exact opposite. They don't care about the franchise, want a quick paycheck, and are inherently terrible at making quality films.

Donny's voice sounded good. I could get used to the look of the Turtles, but not their size.
SHREDDER!!!!! They absolutely butchered his design. Why is he shooting blades out of his arms? The way he moved was very un-ninja like.
When the Skrillex song kicked in, I knew all my original feelings had been confirmed. This movie is geared toward people who just want to see a movie called Ninja Turtles, not a movie about the Ninja Turtles. This movie isn't for me, so I'm still pretty sure I won't go see it.

If a quick Skrillix insert alone is enough to turn you away from the franchise as a whole, well, I don't know what to say other than you must get turned off by every movie/ tv show / commercial that uses dubstep...which is like, everything now.

No the Skrillex song didn't turn me away from the franchise, are you kidding me. It set the tone for the movie, if they have Michael Bay directing, and Skrillex as the music bed, it's a cash grab.
How is this movie about the TMNT, Shredder is white and a completely different (bad) design, the turtles are enormous and have way too much gear on, the original title removed Teenage and Mutant from the title, a new origin story, I could go on for hours. When you're sitting in the theater and realize that they could've made the same movie without slapping the name "TMNT" on it a la Battleship, then you'll see my point.

There's a reason why they chose that music for the trailer, yes it's a stupid reason but it's not to look cool, it's because the music is simply called "Reptile". And besides, I bet it won't even be in the movie, most of the times the songs used on the trailers are nowhere to be found on the movies themselves. So if anyone decides not to see the movie based on a song used for it's trailer is just a sad little troll that just wants to talk crap about everything about this movie, no matter how stupid and ridiculous it is.

I don't know if it's just because there weren't any horrible surprises this time, like: what the turtles look like, but this trailer wasn't as soul crushingly depressing as the first one (lets face it, the subsequent two were basically the same trailer.)
I thought the turtles looked really fake though, the dubstep was irritating, and I'm confused as to why they would go through all the rigmarole of pissing people off with white washing Shredder if that was indeed Oroku Saki in the trailer...
I guess in away it has changed my opinion, this film might be bearable, I'm still not going to see it in the cinema, but I might pick it up of the bargain rack some when down the line...

As much as I love Reptile's Theme, it was pretty ill-fitting and an obvious marketing ploy for the tweens (like putting Michael Bay's name everywhere instead of the director's). It works for Mortal Kombat, but I've never associated TMNT with dubstep. Hopefully it's just an insert song for the trailer and nothing that mirrors the movie's actual soundtrack.

From what we know so far, it seems that Shredder is not white and could, in fact, be Oroku Saki. This story seems to have a lot in common with the comic and movie versions just with a new aesthetic. So, no, I don't think it will feel like a completely different movie with the TMNT in name only. Even the turtles' individual personalities feel very intact.

Same here. I honestly think not even a handful stood out. One would be the Dwarf song in The Hobbit AUJ (which was hard to miss) and fitting enough, the beginning song from the Texas Chainsaw remake "This Mortal Coil" and Surface of the Sun used in X-Men DOFP (only because it's one of my favorite instrumentals of all time)

It's not that we've never had Turtles action where nobody ever got tossed - but I think other incarnations probably paid a bit more lip service to the ninja "spirit".)
Well, there is several ways to go about "Ninjutsu", there's the modern martial arts that is called "ninjutsu", there is several (bs) schools that teach what they convey is "ninjutsu", then there is the pop-culture "ninjutsu", which is what we usually see in movies, cartoons and comic books. And then there is what is actually in the scrolls containing actual Shinobi-no-jutsu techniques, like acting, reconnaissance, infiltration, survival skills, poison brewing, rope climbing, guerrilla techniques, breaking an entry. etc.
Calling Ninjutsu, or Shinobi-no-Jutsu for a martial art in the same manner as Ju-Jutsu, karate etc, is like calling a KGB sleeper agent during the cold war a soldier.

If he gets offended by my comment I'm sorry it wasn't my intention to hurt anybody's feelings, but it's my opinion. If a creator/artist is on the forums, then they shouldn't be surprised by comments, it happens to everyone. This thread was asking did the trailer change my mind..... and like I said, I could get used to the Turtles, but I think they're too big, and have too much gear....you can re-read my thoughts on Shredder too.
I'm always conscious of what I say on here not to offend anyone. But like I've said, I have waited years for this movie, and I'm not excited for it anymore. Every thread has someone who doesn't dig that particular incarnation of the Turtles, and that's fine.
I can't say this enough, the Foot Soldiers look like regular soldiers, Shredder's white (and has a robotic look to him), the Turtles are HUGE (I completely agree with Bry, no tension in something you know can't be beaten). Now, if the reviews come out, and they're good, and people I trust on the forums say it's good, and the plot is true to the TMNT roots, then I will eat my words. But again, my expectations are pretty low at this point.

Was gonna say, Leo's swords, in particular, he'd have to be picking them up at the very edge with his fingertips for that shot to work.
Actually, that little snippet is kind of metaphorical in how it sums up the way this movie looks to me as a whole: Ideas that could have been cool, but - like that shot - the execution's just a step too far off-center, to the point that it falls apart and looks ridiculous.
Wow.... deep.
(They could'a easily fixed that shot just by zooming it in a little bit, though. That's a really bush-league mistake. I wouldn't be shocked if that's not even in the movie and was just something they tossed together in five seconds and threw in for the trailer, that would make sense.)

Thanks Candy - I knew one of the smart people would weigh in shortly. :) I'm leaving all serious lampooning of the martial arts in this movie to those with actual knowledge. :D
^ Tehe..."Where'd you get your high horse?" Well played...
Now for a out of left field question: Does this part of the trailer make anyone else wonder how the weapons are floating away?

It made me feel a LITTLE better...but I'm still sippin' that haterade. I'm still not that excited about it and still hate the over accessorized, huge, turtle lip design and Megan Fox. Especially the size. I just hate how they are so big. Leo's voice wasn't as bad as people theorized it would be. I actually really liked it.
I can only hope that the story is solid. If the story is solid, I may be able to stomach it. But if they re-did it so much that the story suffers and plot holes are punctured through out the whole movie...I will hate it even more.
I want to like it and I will try so hard, so very hard to accept it, but it might be right there with 'Next Mutation' for me. I won't damn it all to hell just yet tho, I'll give it a chance.

my guess would be yes and as i have said Numerous time one reason why we haven't gotten a longer more detailed trailer sooner,
You ever they to pick up a full tang samurai by the space given on the shot...you better hope your, feet, legs, toes, and small children and pets are far away because that thing is gonna swing and cut anything in its path in twain
Why yes yes i have there are techniques specific to the lower portion of the handle its really not that difficult and you only see about a hands width worth of the handle to begin with and full samurai have up to 5 hand widths Some longer then others, Full tang actually makes it easier to grasp lower as it balances the blade.

More ninja weapons for the foot. I am fine with them using guns, (you can only take over 2014 NY city if you have guns. The cops have military hardware now) but would be nice to see them grip some steel.

Now that the new trailer was released did it change your mind or thoughts about the movie?
Honestly? Yeah.
The comparison between the two trailers is really interesting to me. The first trailer highlighted the differences between the new movie and the TMNT franchise as it's commonly known. A white guy is Shredder. The Foot are a paramilitary outfit instead of a ninja clan. The turtles were created by said white guy rather than the product of an accident. Not to mention that the turtles are only seen in the briefest of glimpses, giving the viewer the feeling that they're supporting characters in their own movie. That doesn't make for a good first impression when many fans have similar issues with the Transformers movies, and like it or not, Michael Bay casts a long shadow.
Compare that to this trailer. This trailer highlights the similarities between the new movie and the TMNT franchise. The turtles banter. They save April. They fight Shredder and the Foot. Splinter gives a motivational speech. Raph is separated from his brothers. And now it seems as though the man we thought was Shredder wasn't Shredder at all. But most importantly, the trailer featured the turtles prominently as the center of attention. For the first time, it felt like THEIR movie. April is a great supporting character, but she was never supposed to be the main focus. People want to see a movie about the TMNT, and this trailer promises just that.
I wasn't interested in the movie depicted in the first trailer, but I'm definitely on board for the movie depicted in this trailer. If that makes sense.
voltron80
06-26-2014, 12:36 AM
...yyyes? What exactly didn't make sense there, pray tell? I feel I backed up my opinions pretty well - if you wanna dispute them, feel free to back it up with more than a GIF.
Where should I start? I knew no outside them showing the turtles in their traditional look along with the Japanese Shredder you guys would still hate it no matter what they showed. As the back up claim I do and when I do you guys whine about I don't respect your opinion. From the trailer it seems the turtles' personalities are still intact, now it seems there is a Japanese Shredder i.e. the made up grades to your armor line and lastly if you're going to whine about an action movie having explosions then I hope you didn't see any of the big action movies that came out this year or planning to see next year.
Again from the anti-movie folks all I heard oh they look like strange a guy on Facebook did a great job finding a picture of real turtles and posting them along side each of the four turtles to show yes turtles have these features the guys in the movie have. Again I believe if PD or the guys behind the effects went safe and made them look close to their cartoon counterparts you guys would say well they had the technology why didn't they make them look more real?
The only complaint I will concede to the anti-movie folks is the turtles themselves look way too big or at least Raph looks way too big. Plus the sunglasses. Everything else is just internet nerd doing what internet nerd do best whine about change or their childhood getting violated.
I accepted this movie as its own universe away from the comic book and tv show. What I suspect the fear and whining comes from the idea if this movie is popular enough with the kids and the general movie goer the look the turtles have in the movie could be adopted in future seasons or a totally new Turtles series down the road. Much like Transformers when the Hub rebooted the series they had their movie design(well in Prime case he was back being all red but his design and face plate came from the movies).

To answer the thread question: I already knew I didn't want to see it, the commercials I've seen haven't changed that for me.
While it is part of the turtles line, its not my kind of movie... Its too much for my scared-of-everything mind. I'll probably wait to hear if there is any blood in it or not before I try to watch it... I don't really like blood in cartooned form but I definitely can't handle realistic looking blood.

The failure of Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation would make you think anyone would be wary of overly muscled, individually accessorized turtles. Even the weapon grab sequence is eerily similar to what they used regularly in TNM.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was an influence on this movie.

Knowing Bay, he probably watched it and thought it was the best version of the Turtles thus far. I can picture him sitting there, cribbing notes from it, mumbling to himself.
Plus, Eastman was involved with the project, so, y'know... ;)
(Just teasing, we all know I've got a big soft spot for NM's awfulness.)

you know thinking about it again..Venus bay style wouldn't be all cluttered, she would prob be super sexy style
not gonna lie i wouldn't mind her in a sequel it may save this franchise
it would almost be an admittance of "we screwed up so lets make it as ridiculous as we can"

In that case, we'd almost be guaranteed to see some Turtle lip on Turtle lip action.

I really believe the Technodrome will come out at the end. Why is huge stuff collapsing and falling down like shown in the trailer. I really can't think of any other reason. Perhaps Saki/Sach's headquarters?
I think there would be a little more destruction than a radio tower and some scaffolding if that were the case.
But hey, I could be wrong.

yeah i think they already had their hands full creating the turtles, splinter, and shredder for the first time. They'll have more space for working on something like that in the future.
I think they'll do more mutants like bebop and rocksteady for the second film and possibly the technodrome in a third or fourth movie. Just like they're adding dinobots to the fourth transformers, they'll probably add more sci-fi elements like dimension X later on.

But, in the first Transformers, he also had the whiz chick in there, Maggie. And in his last movie, Pain and Gain, he had two main chicks. Got to give him props, because one of them was not a drop dead gorgeous bikini model.
But hopefully, he stays far away from Venus. They're already going to have Karia. If they do stick in more characters, maybe it will be someone else. Mona Lisa, Ninjara, Radical, Angel.
Why o why was Maggie not in the sequel? She was beautiful, smart, and funny. Big mistake not having her in it. Bay might go with Frida, the mexican women turtle with some fuzz.
Wait, where was Baxter?
The did not show him. I was pretty upset. We know he has already been cast. So why not give him some screen time.

Honestly? Because any 'joe schmo' can edit IMDB, and they are the only 'source' that points to Baxter's inclusion in this film.
The only time IMDB is credible is when a film finally releases, and people can confirm postings with actual film credits and studio releases.
***edit: and ppl were just thinking he was in it because of a person removing tarp from the ooze machine in the first trailer, but nobody knows who that figure really was. It could be generic scientist number 15 for all we know. Just an extra.

Now that the new trailer was released did it change your mind or thoughts about the movie?
So, on the original topic of the thread, now that it's been a couple days and it's had time to sink in...
I have to say at this point that toothy mug has been printed out as a glossy 4x6 and taped up there with a matching size print of his hand/weapon poster I've had up a while....

I hope no fervent supporters go wetting themselves quite yet or anything on some notion I've joined their holding pen. I remain and intend on remaining still rather discerning and open eyed of this whole thing.
It has helped a bit to actually be able to see him finally outside of shadow or a quick blur and hear him speak. Prior it has been impossible for me to even feel like it's really them, but getting a glimpse of Leo's personality... feels like some of him may be in there somewhere after all.
This movie will probably never sell me on these models or convince me that some of the choices they made where the best way to go... But finally really seeing and hearing Leo - the only one out of this whole deal with really any chance of baiting me into this thing at all - yeah...he may still have his charms about him that I can hold dear, at least a few.
Figure it might be the best way to go about it at this point, just finding those parts of a favorite character that makes you smile.
...be it the blue eyes, endearing buckteeth (maybe they'll pay him enough to afford braces...), how he so nicely threatens this so-called April, and now knowing what the print says on the side of his mask... <3

Perfectly said, Indigo! :) Absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying the parts we can and making a joke or two about the rest, IMO - that's where I'm at at this stage.

This. I feel for me it will probably be some of the VAing and the comic relief lines from Mikey.
And also the performances of some of the actors I like who are in this movie. I'm hoping they will carry the weight of the less talented porn stars, I mean Megan Fox, I mean...actors.

Although I've been mostly opposed to the movie, I must admit this new trailer got me pumped. I still don't like the designs of the turtles, why do they have to be so large and bulky? There is nothing that says that "monsters" have to be that large. Also, I'm not sold on Shredder's Transformer-armor (they do state in the trailer he's a robot samurai). Anyway, it does seem the movie will be really action-packed in a somewhat ninja-like way, and that pleases me. I also liked the fact that they cleared the air about the whole alien agenda, so now it finally seems they're not aliens. Altogether the trailer has a very clear Transformers-feeling over it, which worries me, but it still got me stoked for the movie.

Turtle stubble? lol See this is what happens... ya lean too human on the design and they end up with "human problems." Lucky them, they made them so human and grown looking, now they have to shave. If there's a sequel I'm expecting stylish Turtle goatees.
(In which sequel will the Blue Fairy show up and grant them the wish to be "a real boy," but only if they're good?)
