Today marks eleven years that I've been with my BF Chris. I am so lucky to have him in my life and that I was able to find someone who identifies with what I'm going through as far as being visually impaired is concerned. I'm happy that our love has stayed strong because most couples don't last as long as we have and it just shows that we really do care for each other and respect each other, which is the most important thing when being in a relationship. So I'm thankful every day that I have him in my life, and I just wanted to share that with you guys and let you know that not all relationships end up badly as long as you both love and respect one another.

Congratulations!

BTW my sister and her husband have been married for nearly 40 years. Many people are surprised!

Thanks, guys. We aren't getting married because he's on disability and if we get married, he'll make less money. I don't want to do that to him, so we're just not going to get married and have a common law marriage instead.

gulp...That totally hit me where I live.

grrr.. now I have to punch you in the ear Fight Club style for making my heart ache.

Seriously though, congratulations on finding that special someone. So many of us take love for granted and don't take the time to appreciate those in our lives until it's too late. I wish you every happiness. :)

Congrats Bubbly! Glad you have found someone who makes you as happy as you make them.

I certainly wouldn't sweat the marriage thing; I don't plan on ever doing it either. No diss meant against those who do want to do it; it just doesn't really mean anything to me/not really my style/wouldn't change anything to me anyway. I'm of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mindset.

Yeah, same here with me, Penny. I just don't care about marriage and feel that as long as you're committed to someone and care about them, you don't need a ceremony to do that.

Arkangel, sorry if what I said hurt you or whatever. I certainly didn't intend for that to happen. You'll find that special someone someday, and if you don't, that's okay too. Nothing wrong with being single.

Definitely; there's way too much emphasis on "you won't be happy til you find someone" in this society. There are lots of different types of love which can be just as fulfilling - like the unconditional love between a pet and its guardian, or the love between friends or family... the love of Mikey for pizza!

You'll be ok, Arkangel. *hugs*

Pretty belated, but congrats, Bubbly. That's very cool. I really missed out on this stuff when I lost my password. haha

Aw, belated congratulations from me too Shell! Really sorry I didn't see this before (I think this was while I was on holiday) that's so lovely to hear. I wish you two many more years of happiness and togetherness. :D

Thanks, everyone! I don't sweat anything and take it one day at a time. If we stay together, then great. If we don't, then okay. I'll just stay single for the rest of my life and the hell with it. But I really hope that doesn't happen to us as I think we have a very unique relationship and we don't take things for granted or really worry about what's to come.
