While actual Turtles live dozens of miles away in the Chesapeake Bay based on my primary home, my family's vacation home at Rehobeth Beach, Delaware is located just a few blocks away from a stream were over a foot bridge you can see dozens of turtles swimming in it during the summer, and there are a couple different species found. That said, what kind of turtles live near your locale and how often do they appear?

Hah, northern DE here, so hi neighbor.

State has a number of species, but most I've seen in my life were the box turtles, one tiny baby snapper my dad once found and brought home in a cup (released at a pond the same day just over the border in PA not far from my grandparents), and think the other watery sorts in ponds around here are the red eared sliders (TMNT represent), but not 100% sure, and a few other aquatic ones. Turtles aren't too often a sighting though in my neighborhood.

Edit: Cool list, but can't say I've ever seen most of these.

I own pet turtles sooo.... 15 feet from where I sit right now.

But, other turtles? I live pretty. Lose to the zoo. Turtles and tortoises aren't native to Norway, but there is rumors that a place do have a colony of turtles after bored owners just released their pets in the local dam. It's probably a 20 hour drive to that place, then again I live closer to Denmark where turtles are common to buy in pet stores.

Not sure what kind of turtles they are, but I see them all the time swimming around some water near the Dairy Queen I used to work at. I've even seen turtles in my front yard before! Next time I see one close enough, I'll make sure to grab a picture.

There is a park about 50 metres from my house that features a large pond full of Western Long-necked Turtles. At certain times of year, they cross the road to access nearby wetlands, so there are turtle crossing signs on the curb.

I live next to a swamp, so quite close. Mainly box turtles, as far as I know, and some snappers. My parents though have snappers galore at their place, some of the biggest snappers I've seen seem to gravitate to the pond in their yard.

I live in the mountains of NC. There are plenty of turtles EVERYWHERE. Box turtles, Snapping turtles, Mud turtles.... If you where to walk along the railroad tracks you would be quite sad because the turtles fall between the railroad ties and get stuck.... and ultimately die there. When I walk along the railroad tracks I find HUGE shells!!!!:o

Last week I saved a little turtle from being hit by a logging truck. But the trucker was not mad, he gave me a thumbs up.:D

You live near Chesapeake bay? I LOVE it over there! my husband and I have spent many vacations at First Landing State Park. We love to make fun of the road names such as "witch duck" and also love all the military bases in the area (my husband LOVES airplanes!).
Only thing is that NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO DRIVE OVER THERE!!!!!! LOL, I'm sure that's what the VA drivers say about us...

Box turtles are all over this area...so much that when I was a kid I had "pet" box turtles...until my mom found out.

There are large Red Eared Sliders at the Toltec Mounds State Park, which is 31 miles away. You can even feed them. They are practically tame. Need to take Trey some time.

Well don't get many turtles, but do get quite a lot of kangaroos near the backyard.

Rehobeth Beach

I swear when i read that it said Robotech beach. I see a few in dams and rivers here. One time about 10 to 15 years ago i went camping on the coast and saw a huge dead turtle on the beach. Had to be around 1m long. Think it got hit by a boat or something. Poor chap.

There's also an aquarium-mini-zoo type place less than an hours' drive from my place which rehabilitates wild turtles that've been hit by boats and things like that; they actually have quite a wide variety of turtles there - both freshwater and saltwater.

Wow. Pretty much my whole state is a mecca for Turtles of all sorts. I live in Florida, out in Indiantown. Tons of canals, lakes, rivers and swamps are all over the place, and I am always seeing Turtles of all sorts. One of my pastures actually has some land tortoises buried deep in the ground. If I was to go to the nearest river, which has direct access to the ocean, I have spotted sea turtles, bull sharks and manatees in there.

Since we're both in Texas, I'd guess they are probably Sliders, or possibly also a few Mud Turtles, Chicken Turtles, and Snappers. Those are the most common types here, aside from the ubiquitous Western Box Turtles and Berlandier's tortoises.

I live in a rural area where Box Turtles and Snappers are pretty common, and my parents have 50 acres, and several small ponds on their land, so there are quite a few Sliders and Snappers, as well as the Box Turtles.

Sounds like you should check the tracks more often- you could save quite a few of those little guys! And good job on saving that turtle from the truck!

I live in the Richmond, VA area and these are turtles that are indigenous to my state:

I have a small creek that runs through my back yard and have seen turtles walking around out there.

There might be some at the creek 1 block from my apartment, but I'm also about a fifteen minute walk from my work (petsmart) so we have several turtles & tortoises on display. Also if I head into work at a later hour (4am) i usually see Master Splinter darting across the street from the park into the bushes of the local strip club.

North GA here, so I practically share my home with turtles. But you know you've seen turtles when you walk in a wooded trail and see two turtles doing it.

OK, I think I've seen enough turtles.

By my estimation, 2.5 miles. The local zoo has a lot of reptiles; including the really cool ones: Komodo dragon, anaconda, king cobra, alligator snapping turtle, gharial, etc.

I live in Lancaster Pennsylvania out in the country and I have box turtles that hang out in my backyard every year. My dad mowed over one by mistake and cut off part of the shell. We took it in and nursed it back to health, covered the area with JBWeld so it had a nice hard coating and then left it go but not before it laid an egg. I think that same turtle with a now deformed shell still comes around every year so I guess we patched her up real good.:D

Do turtles not live in ditches in places besides Louisiana??
