It wouldn't surprise me if Johnny Knoxville shows up since he considered one of Paramount's darlings.

Paramount Pictures has signed Johnny Knoxville and his Hello Junior banner to an exclusive 2-year first-look deal. This comes after Deadline revealed that he was brought in to voice Leonardo in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and it follows a long string of hits with the studio including the Jackass films and Bad Grandpa. Those Jackass films have earned $336 million globally, and Bad Grandpa did just over $150 million worldwide.

“Johnny is hilarious,” said Brad Grey, Chairman & CEO of Paramount Pictures. “I have known him for many years now, and I am constantly impressed and in awe of his unwavering commitment to ensure audiences around the world have a great time at the movies.”

What's a "first-look deal?"

From the The Complete Film Dictionary:

A contractual agreement between a studio and independent producer that the studio have first rights to consider a film by that producer for production and/or distribution by giving financial support during the development period."

So whats not to stop Paramount from doing a huge Premiere in New York?

China is absolutely IN-SANE for Transformers. I'd say China is that series' bread and butter.
Then again, Asia is the bread and butter for Resident Evil films too....grrrr.

If anywhere would make sense for a premiere for TMNT, it's New York.

Paramount plans to bring Megan Fox and Will Arnett to the San Diego convention.

As awful as Playmates QC is on their TMNT figures, I wonder how many hundreds or thousands of figures do they have to sort through before they can find one figure of each character that is showcase worthy for something like Toyfare or SDCC. You'd think that would raise some red flags for their marketing dept.

ScreenCrush has a description of the footage that was shown here.
http://screencrush.com/comic-con-2014-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-panel/
Megan Fox and Will Arnett were on hand at Comic-Con with director Jonathan Liebesman to show off a little footage from the upcoming ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ movie. This is a movie that could use a little positive buzz after a lot of negative reactions to the early looks at the Michael Bay version of the Turtles. At today’s panel, we saw our best look at the movie yet to see if it’s as bad as people are worried it could be.

The first clip shown was about 8 minutes long and it’s a scene from the movie that you’ve seen a lot in the trailers. April O’Neil’s father used to work with Eric Sachs (her father has since died). Sachs inspires April to become a real journalist, as opposed to the celebrity beat she’s currently working on. She’s sitting in traffic with Vern (Arnett) when they see a crowd running from something inside a building in New York City.

Cut to the Turtles (from behind, we don’t get a good look at them yet) watching a bank of monitors from their underground lair in the sewers. “Heavy Foot Clan activity…Let’s rock ‘n roll, boys!”

April, seeing her chance to capture some real news, bolts out of the truck and into the subway underneath the building. As she’s snooping around, she’s abducted from behind from some Foot soldiers. She’s dragged into the subway corridor where a number of hostages are being held while soldiers plant bombs around the walls. It becomes clear they’re there for one reason: to lure the Turtles out of hiding. “Come out or we’ll start executing hostages!”

Then the lights go out and the Turtles come riding in on the top of a subway car. They’re taking out the Clan in the dark while April records the action from her iPhone. All the terrorists are freed and go running out of the station while the SWAT team moves in. The Turtles try to escape but April sees them and gives chase. On the top of the building, the Turtles are huddled up, proud of their work. “Like shadows in the night! Completely unseen…” Just then a flash goes off and we see April climbing up the fire escape taking pictures of them. The Turtles, still mostly in the shadows, grab her and bring her up on the roof. From off-screen we can hear Michelangelo: “She’s so hot! I can feel my shell tightening!”

Raphael steps in and is more intimidating, trying to scare April into giving up her phone with the pictures. Leonardo jumps in and stops him (that hero shot you’ve seen in the trailers). There is some tension between the two. Raph means business, but Leonardo tries to protect her. They do warn her to keep things quiet saying, “We will find you,” but it’s Michelangelo and he has to immediately apologize for sounding creepy.

—

The second clip takes place near the end of the film as the Turtles have been kidnapped by Sachs in his snowy lair on the top of a mountain. April and Vern are there to break them free and escape. As they, now with the Turtles make their way to the truck, a group of soldiers open fire on them. “Oh my gosh, they have guns!” The Turtles are surprised to find out that the bullets just bounce off their shells and plastron (the underneath part of a turtle). In fact, Raphael has figured out that he can hold the bullets in his chest and then, by flexing, fire them back out. “We’re bulletproof!”

They’re being chased by Foot soldiers down the snowy mountain as Vern finally realizes that April wasn’t making all of this up. “I can’t believe you’re not crazy!” (He says this while ogling her ass as she hangs out a window.)

The action is happening fast and you’ll recognize some of the beats from the trailer (including surfing down the mountain on their shells and ramming the side of a Foot vehicle). Here, we get a good look at Michelangelo, who now has a rocket-powered skateboard, which he uses to snowboard. At the end, the truck — with Leonardo, April and Vern inside — falls off the side of a cliff. Michelangelo tries to grab them but he can’t make it. “They’re…DEAD.” Raph: “They’re not dead, numbnuts.”

—

It’s all very….goofy. Don’t go in to ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ and expect ‘Batman Begins.’ This really is a kids movie and, from what we were shown, it’s playing that up. The adults in the audience might not laugh at the Keyboard Cat jokes but we’re not sure they were ever meant to.

We’ve give the look of the Turtles a lot of grief (and rightfully so based on some of the earlier materials), but that’s not even one of the film’s problems. In the context of the film, they look fine. The mo-cap is done really well and while they don’t look like the classic Turtles of old, they’re not what’s holding the film back. One thing that really did take us out of the moment was the voice of Johnny Knoxville, who, with his Tennessee drawl, just doesn’t have the right sound for Leonardo – the no-nonsense leader of the team.

In the end, this movie seems like it’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by way of the new ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ movies. Light and fun and goofy, but with very familiar action beats and cartoonish heroes.

Thing is though, who cares?

If you want to see the thing, who gives a crap what people are yapping about? Especially internet video reviewers that get more views for negative 'ranty' stuff.

I could not possibly care less about what critics have to say when I've already made up my mind based on commercials and trailers. If it turns out I like the movie, negative press isn't going to change my opinion.

Long story short. Stop worrying about how a movie you have no real personal stake in does and just see it for yourself.

No more than the Adam West series poisoned the public's view on Batman.

I know that 'Kids React To...' video with the 80s show is somewhat scripted but their reactions are real enough that none of them knew of the old show or cared.

I think it's more of a case that this is were Hollywood is right now. Look at the Star Trek movies. It's not like "beam me up Scotty" and quoted paragraphs and rules were ever that prevalent in the old show and certainly not in the subsequent versions but that's what the media hooked on to and instead of subverting the notion that's what the franchise is the current movies they are pandering to it and presenting the whole thing in an ironic way. It's a little goofy? Well we'll make a lot goofy.

Ugh, did I ever pick the wrong time to take a Technodrome vacation...

Back for a minute with a GIF PARADE RESPONSE!

Just then a flash goes off and we see April climbing up the fire escape taking pictures of them. The Turtles, still mostly in the shadows, grab her and bring her up on the roof. From off-screen we can hear Michelangelo: “She’s so hot! I can feel my shell tightening!”

http://media.giphy.com/media/yTAugkkABvlfO/giphy.gif

“Oh my gosh, they have guns!” The Turtles are surprised to find out that the bullets just bounce off their shells and plastron (the underneath part of a turtle). In fact, Raphael has figured out that he can hold the bullets in his chest and then, by flexing, fire them back out.

http://media.giphy.com/media/5ilsskakMwGT6/giphy.gif

They’re being chased by Foot soldiers down the snowy mountain as Vern finally realizes that April wasn’t making all of this up. “I can’t believe you’re not crazy!” (He says this while ogling her ass as she hangs out a window.)

http://media.giphy.com/media/HsdIC3bKmy3K0/giphy.gif

The action is happening fast and you’ll recognize some of the beats from the trailer (including surfing down the mountain on their shells and ramming the side of a Foot vehicle). Here, we get a good look at Michelangelo, who now has a rocket-powered skateboard, which he uses to snowboard. At the end, the truck — with Leonardo, April and Vern inside — falls off the side of a cliff. Michelangelo tries to grab them but he can’t make it. “They’re…DEAD.” Raph: “They’re not dead, numbnuts.”

http://media.giphy.com/media/bcl1lpG8JQ8b6/giphy.gif

One thing that really did take us out of the moment was the voice of Johnny Knoxville, who, with his Tennessee drawl, just doesn’t have the right sound for Leonardo – the no-nonsense leader of the team.

FINAL SCORE:

Based on this it sounds exactly like I expected and feared - big, loud, stupid (and decidedly un-ninjalike) action with dumb and obnoxious jokes peppered throughout. In other words... a Michael Bay movie.

If you're into that sort of thing, then I honestly hope you enjoy it. But for me... no thanks. I want something better than this. I think the franchise deserves it, and I know it can pull it off. But this one ain't gonna be it, so I will not give it my dollars.

Bring on the next reboot, please.

I'll never understand this new 'critics validate my opinions' way of thinking.

For some of us, it's more of a "I can't enjoy movies that are completely brain-dead" way of thinking.

I don't advocate for blindly following critics, but they are (well, many of them, anyway) trained to notice things about movies, analyze them, and hold them to a reasonable standard. And even critics can get behind something that might not be Citizen Kane, but is at least made well, enjoyable, and has something to say. If the overall consensus is against something... I dunno, there might be something to that?

Thing is though, who cares?

If you want to see the thing, who gives a crap what people are yapping about? Especially internet video reviewers that get more views for negative 'ranty' stuff.

I could not possibly care less about what critics have to say when I've already made up my mind based on commercials and trailers. If it turns out I like the movie, negative press isn't going to change my opinion.

Long story short. Stop worrying about how a movie you have no real personal stake in does and just see it for yourself.
You're right I should be more open see it for myself before I pass judgement
forget what the critics think I'm back on hype train :tgrin:

I agree. But we all know they're gonna watch it anyway. And if they do like it they won't fully admit it. That's the culture we live in today. Everybody wants to be in the crowd. And because Micheal Bay or Megan Fox is attached to this film its an automatic fail. Really wish people would judge things on their own. But that's a rational action so that'll never happen.

I don't remember any erection jokes in the Fred Wolf show or fart jokes...I could be wrong but I don't remember any burping.

I've said it before but none of that in and of itself is bad but little else but that is. The better seasons of the Fred Wolf show still attempted seriousness in a Saturday morning context.

Yeah I remember those when they switched up the theme song. They had those Batman The Animated Series red skies. Lol. That was crazy.

I'm not even referring to the Red Sky seasons. I'm talking about the show in it's entirety.

When the turtles went to rescue Splinter from the Technodrome in the second episode they took it seriously. The final episode of that first season begins with turtles determined to take Shredder and even more determined to restore their master to normal. It was all light in tone but for a show of it's ilk it treated it seriously.

There's a certain charm to a lot of the humour of the Fred Wolf (and some of it's references are pretty clever) but was that it's selling point. Did kids tune in to watch them eat pizza and surf or was that a bonus to watching them battle bad guys.

Also didn't the DCAU guys lift the red sky look from TMNT? Dini was a fan of the show.

If the final product won me over I'd have no problem saying so. I just don't think it's likely seeing how little I've liked of what I've seen so far. I know some people have some kind of hipster cred thing going on but I don't even pretend to understand that. It's just a movie, I'm no richer or poorer for its quality, lack thereof, or my ability to fully "get" the humor or not. I also don't think people get bonus points for pretending to hate something they enjoyed, so I don't know why people do that either.

Here is Collider's Recap of the TMNT Movie Panel
http://collider.com/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-comic-con-panel-recap/
Footage

teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-noel-fisherThe first footage we saw takes place ten minutes into the movie. April O’Neill knows there’s a vigilante group fighting against the Foot, and she’s hot on their trail, but she doesn’t know they’re turtles. When she sees a bunch of people fleeing the subway, she rushes in to see what’s causing the commotion. Once inside, the Foot Clan, who are taking hostages and setting explosives, immediately captures her. However, the Turtles are watching the surveillance footage on a panel of TV screens (although one TV has Keyboard Cat playing chopsticks with chopsticks), and decide to spring into action. The Turtles manage to rescue the hostages while staying incognito because the lights in the tunnel mostly go out except for an occasional flicker where we see the Turtles beating up the Foot Clan. Afterwards, they go to celebrate on top of a building, but April follows them, snaps a picture, and we get a whole thing where the Turtles try to figure out how to deal with her because they want to keep their identities a secret.

But mostly, this character scene is about quickly establishing their personalities: Leonardo is the stern leader, Raphael is the hothead (but not in a fun way; his fellow Turtles make fun of his “Batman voice”), Donatello is the brainy one, and Michelangelo is the goofball who also thinks April is hot. If there’s any humor that’s working, it’s in capturing the camaraderie between brothers who are constantly bickering and ragging on each other.

Near the end of the panel, we got another scene. This was a big set piece on a snow-covered mountainside where April, Vernon, and the Turtles are on the run from the Foot Clan, and I just couldn’t get into it. It never feels like the Turtles are really there. Perhaps in a finished film I’ll buy them as characters and forget they’re CGI, but in these brief scenes, I was always aware that they’re nothing but pixels. It’s made worse by action scenes where they don’t seem to have any weight. All of the Turtles look like bodybuilders, but they’re remarkably agile when the scene calls for it.

After the presentation, I wasn’t swayed about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles one-way or the other. My biggest takeaway is that when the Turtles are charming (and they can be; I laughed at some of their lines), they have to do it against their grotesque appearance. It’s like someone decided to take each word as literally as possible when asked, “What would a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle look like in our world?” There might be a fun story in Liebesman’s film, and fans were jazzed when a sizzle reel showed Splinter fighting Shredder. I hope to share these fans’ joy when I see this movie because I still remember how much I liked the Turtles when I was a kid. But then when I see Raphael say “Cowabunga” in the grittiest voice possible, I can’t help but shake my head.

Oh, my...this review of the footage describes pretty much in precise detail why I didn't liked this project from the begining. I was afraid that since it was Bay's movie it will turn out like...this. And it had happened. Not much surprise here, but still it's kind of sad, that the biggest representation of the franchise in the modern pop-culture will will be presented in such basic, grotesque and, dare I say, deformed form.

Michael Bay version of the Turtles
Well, there goes your director's movie. :D

From off-screen we can hear Michelangelo: “She’s so hot! I can feel my shell tightening!”
My mind...

In fact, Raphael has figured out that he can hold the bullets in his chest and then, by flexing, fire them back out. “We’re bulletproof!”
**** this ****.

They’re being chased by Foot soldiers down the snowy mountain as Vern finally realizes that April wasn’t making all of this up. “I can’t believe you’re not crazy!” (He says this while ogling her ass as she hangs out a window.)
Yeah. Bay's movie...:trazz:

Don’t go in to ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ and expect ‘Batman Begins.’ This really is a kids movie and, from what we were shown, it’s playing that up.
Nice.

And don't give me "Fred Wolf's cartoon was the same". No, it wasn't. It didn't had fart and dick jokes. It was comedy action, but it was lighthearted and genuinly funny.

All in all this project is exactly what I was afraid it would be.

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/68134

I'm digging the sounds of this scene -

They shoot some kind of electric line at him. It attaches and electrocutes Leo. Donatello and Raph see Leo's in trouble. Raph says his shell is cracked, but for Donatello to “Tape me up!” so he can go after Leo. “Let me be the badass for once,” says Don and with a nod from Raph he jumps out of the back of the truck into the snow and to Leo's aid.

Okay I admit, this was pretty funny.

They see the hostage situation and are debating about going up as the camera pans over the images on the monitors. When the camera gets to Mikey we see he's watching Keyboard Cat playing chopsticks with chopsticks and he can't believe what he's seeing. Another Turtle smacks him and changes the feed to the hostage crisis.

That's the kind of humour we've been seeing mostly and I hope would be prominent in the actual film!

I just don't see the point. So far nothing, other than the exception of a small things, has gotten me excited. And with everything we know so far, I realize now nothing has changed. This isn't the ideal Ninja Turtles film that I've been waiting 7 years for. What's the point in buying a ticket for a film in which I know I'm not going to enjoy based on the changes made? I feel the exact opposite with this movie than I did about the Nick show. Everything about this film just makes me cringe, honestly.

For the people who are excited, that's good for you. Means you get to enjoy a new take on the guys. But as for me, I'm tired of complaining and I'm just feeling done with the movie. For now, the only TMNT stuff I'm focusing on is the Nick cartoon, and as long as I have that and the past stuff, I'm perfectly content.

So enjoy the movie, guys. Hope it lives up your expectations. :)

And I had thought Splinter looked OK in the clips we've seen in the trailers and commercials, but he just did not look right to me in what we saw. Now I have no movie to look forward to this August.
The cheesy dialogue is going to get this movie panned so hard by critics.

I guess we'll never get a dark-themed tmnt movie :ohwell:

Was TMNT ever really meant for a hyper dark gritty version? I mean the whole point of tmnt in the first place was for it to be a parody of dark gritty comics. The hyper campy dialogue in the mirage comics made it fun. stuff like, " Getting rid of vile dung like you!" or, "catch you on the flip side Greenie!!" Am I wrong? Do people really take the TMNT universe to be on par with with Watchmen? 300? The Dark Tower? I mean TMNT as had some serious moments but to ever think it was dark, gritty, and thought provoking imo is kinda strange.

Tales is FULL of introspection, stories that pull at your heart strings, & all sorts of thought provoking material. Vol. 1, short of it's guest era, is pretty somber from issue 8 onward. Vol. 3 is immensely violent. Vol. 4 is very cerebral. Much of it's subtle, maybe it went over your head. Sure there are sci-fi elements & shots of humor along the way, but that doesn't take away from its overall grim tone. If the book wasn't so depressing & deep, we'd have seen it represented elsewhere by now.

And once again we witnessing here how some people, in an attempt to justify questionable choices, that the new movie had made, start to badmouth past incarnations of the franchise and downplay some important aspects of them. Yeah, sure, why not. Let's hate on the past of the series to protect new product.

In my eyes such feeble attempts clearly mean one thing - questionable, zealous, almost mindless devotion of some people, which is hard to take seriously and is not really good thing for the series in the long run. Also, the fact that in order to make new product look better, some people need to downplay, ignore or proclaim outright hateful stuff about some past incarnations, tells volumes about how weak new version of the TMNT is. If it was project with true quality and, what some people can call "soul", then there would have been no need for such thing.

Finally, a sane person.

TMNT, and superheroes in general, work better when you don't take them too seriously, especially in Turtles case. It's too damn ridiculous to be on par with something like Watchmen or stuff like that and at it's core it's a parody, that's why it's endured for so long. It takes all the conventions and tropes of superhero comics and throws them back in a quirky way. It's goofy, weird, and fun. Those are it's strengths.

I just don't get why some people are still complaining.

So it isn't going to be dark and gritty but at least the movie is going to be PG13 so they be still showing a lot of stuff that they can't show in a cartoon.

The sexual comments in this movie, don't you get that in every comic book film.

I think you all to calm down and wait for the reviews to come in and if they are bad then you can start argueing ;)

So that explains the damn thing stuck to him in the clip when he goes to get April and Vern out of the truck. Not gonna enjoy that snowy portion...

It's goofy, weird, and fun. Those are it's strengths.
It doesn't mean you need to turn it into ape**** riduluous insane ****fest.

Besides, as it was said before, nothing precludes authors from creating semi-serious works even with goofy premise like TMNT is. Inability of most authors to do it, is only telling about their personal shortcomings as a writers. And the fact that you personally ready to settle down for something less then average, goofy, stupid and fun, doesn't tell about quality and potential of the series, what it should be or how it should be presented and treated by others.

As I said before - serious works about TMNT do exist, it's undeniable fact. Some of them were succesfull, which automatically debalces the whole ****** idea, that TMNT should be only riduculous fun.

Just read through that and this bit here seems the most interesting.
Megan on April's connection with the turtles

I don’t know what I’m allowed to reveal and not reveal… Her dad was a scientist whose experiments were being funded by… a shadowy figure… and there’s a lab fire. Her father dies in the lab fire. She loses him and it’s not until she starts hearing their names when she meets them on the roof that things start firing off in her brain and she goes and she digs through all of her father’s old lab notes and his books and all of this stuff and she discovers that these quite possibly are the little turtles that she used to look at in his lab before it burned down.
That explains the casting for Young April. And she knew the Turtles when she was a child.

One bad review, and about 5 other good ones.

Is that true? I'm sure I saw other negative-to-ambivalent ones. And I wouldn't call any review that doesn't say "this looks bad" to be "good", necessarily...

If you don't like the movie, that will never change. As much as you try to like it, you wont. The designs are going to be in this movie, and you will always prefer the older look. The story might blow you away, but the look of the turtles might keep you away. August 8th will not change one single mind. You have chosen your opinion as soon as you saw those turtles. Everyones mind is made up. You can try and tell yourself or others you still hold out hope, but you know you hate it.

Yeah, I don't think that's an accurate assessment, though. Yes, the designs are turning a lot of people off, but that's not the only thing, and I don't even think it's the deal-breaker in most cases. It's the whole thing. The style, the plot, the directing, the casting, the humour, and the alterations to the key backstory... they're just divisive. Either you're into it or you're not. And if someone's not, I don't think it's fair to dismiss that by simplifying and making assumptions about their reasons.

Of course, as the series went on, it changed and explored other avenues. It could be balls-out goofy/ridiculous, and it could be introspective, thoughtful and grounded, and it could be dark, gritty and "serious". But at its best, it always had a balance.

Not sure if posted yet. Comic Con recaps: http://screenrant.com/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-sdcc-2014/

http://collider.com/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-comic-con-panel-recap/

That's kind of how I felt when I first watched that scene, but I think it's hard to buy into the movie when dropped right in the middle of the action, especially one that's been toned down in the editing. When I watched it a second time and I was more aware of that it played out a little better.

Keep in mind that some of these people reviewing the panel weren't on board with the new TMNT from the start so nothing was going to win them over.

There might be a fun story in Liebesman’s film, and fans were jazzed when a sizzle reel showed Splinter fighting Shredder.

:o

In fact, Raphael has figured out that he can hold the bullets in his chest and then, by flexing, fire them back out. “We’re bulletproof!”

Okay, that's kinda stupid.

Keep in mind, That's just ScreenCrush's take on it, Maybe they arent the biggest TMNT fans.
It seems a lot of these reviews preface them with "I haven't been a fan of what I've seen so far". It'd be like Leo656 going to review the footage.

One thing that really did take us out of the moment was the voice of Johnny Knoxville, who, with his Tennessee drawl, just doesn’t have the right sound for Leonardo – the no-nonsense leader of the team.
This has been my biggest fear for the movie. What a stupid decision. I want to know who made this decision so I can punch them.

Kevin Eastman, Jonathan Liebesman, Will Arnett, Megan Fox, Andrew Fuller and Brad Form was on hand for the panel and answered some questions. The audience was surprisingly hostile in the few questions they got to ask. One was like, “Kevin, I love your work... but when is this franchise just going to die?” and another was “Who's dumb idea was it to make them aliens?”

There are ways to ask questions like this, that 1) are a little more respectful, and 2) are better worded, so as to make a strong point, but still get a question answered.

:(
Yeah, It seems like April has been around with her Dad when she was a kid, It can explain why Splinter knows her, And then tells her the story about what happened to her Dad.

I don't believe that Splinter is April's Dad, I think after Splinter became sentience and developing a conscious, He sees April as a Child with her Dad. Her father died from a fire for some reason, and Splinter probably knows the truth, what really happened to her Father that night.

I would love it if someone could just sit the entire current crop of screenwriters down and tell them: if you make every hero's journey pre-destined or planned, and you reveal that every main character was already tied together before the plot begins, you make their whole "world" SO much smaller and less special.

You know how C-3P0 and R2-D2 just happened to meet Luke Skywalker, and later they and Obi-Wan Kenobi just happened to meet Han Solo and Chewbacca at a bar, and how these chance encounters and their impact on the story made the viewers feel that the world of Star Wars was vast and limitless, and anything was possible? It seems you proved this guy point without even knowing it or you did but you was like F that I'm going to back up the tools that support my opinion of the movie. From reading sites and certain people on message boards, comment section and YouTube rants it seems there's two camps of people who hate this movie 1. The loyalists to the 1987 show that are either indifferent or hate any version of the turtles post that era. And 2. The Mirage marks who wants nothing but a dark and gritty movie where the turtles are wearing red masks and fight scenes that rival "Kill Bill" or "Ninja Assassin".
It seems the overall point you missed was you guys i.e. you and Boston can sit in the theaters hope and pray Guardians of Whatever rakes in half a billion dollars on the first weekend so whatever Turtles opens to the following weekend is distant second if you want, while people who don't share that view goes to see it.

i like how i was brought into a fight i actually had nothing to do with...dude get a life, ive said it many times, and leave my name out of your mouth..this is the last time ill say it...people have different tastes in movies

also stop saying i want TMNT to fail because i literally never said that....and if you are going to quote me on saying i wouldnt seeing on opening, get your facts straight

1 I like seeing movies in order...i still havent had a chance Maleficent and Transformers. I havent seen a movie opening weekend in years
i am not going to see Guardians opening weekend either

2 I work almost every weekend..so opening nights are out of the question for me, when i can get to the movies i go on matinees

3 that is my best friends birthday , and if i am going to the movies we will see something he wants to see (which isnt turtles)

4 that weekend is Boston Comic Con, so my money will be going towards that (hotel, food, ride, tickets)

5 originally, unless i got free tickets to a premiere (because of the reasons listed above) i wasn't going to go see it , which now as changed do to some studio invitations i recently got, as well as a local comic shop movie party IE i don't have to pay for it

Nobody proved or missed any "point". We all have our reasons for being leery of this movie, or outright disliking it, and those reasons vary from person to person. They're our opinions and they're perfectly valid. Stop trying to make us all fit into two specific little "boxes" (that you alone conveniently get to define, huh?) just because you don't like that.

Stop putting words in peoples' mouths. Stop trying to tell people what their reasoning or motivations are like you know better than they do. It's small-minded and disrespectful. Do better.

One bad review, and about 5 other good ones. I say dont see it. Wait for it to hit redbox or netflix. Do not pay for something you will not be satisfied with. As for me. I will be there at a 12 am showing. With my 3 little brothers in our different colored masks. Cowa-F@#$^&-bunga :tcool:

Where are the 5 good reviews? I've not seen anything other than a sort of "eh" vibe to reviews, none sparkling nor bad from skimming on here.

LOL!! boy some of guys are too funny. the creators of the turtles are on board and apart of this version. It's ****ing TMNT, a movie, a cartoon, a comic book some of you act like its religion. Ok, the movie isn't to the tone you like pull the stick out your ass and go read the damn comic or whatever "serious" work your talking about. Just because it doesn't follow your TMNT bible doesn't make it "ape **** or a **** fest"

The creator. One of them. Eastman, the guy working on it and invested in it personally who also loved Next Mutation and promoted it as amazing development for the TMNT. Laird hasn't commented on the new movie in a while, having last said he would wait for the whole thing before forming an opinion. He was fairly pessimistic when he did last comment on what he'd seen (which was the same WE saw since he's not working on it behind the scenes or anything).

Some disagree with Eastman's tastes on the turtle stuff, some lean more towards Laird's preference. Personally, since he's working on it, I would expect Eastman to be more favorable and Laird a bit more critical. I can't fault Eastman for his contributions in IDW though. I'm loving the way things are developing differently with familiarity over there.

For the movie, we'll see. I probably won't see it opening night. Leaning towards Sunday with the all you can eat pizza option at a theater in my area. ;)

I've been much more optimistic from the trailers they've shown, but I have to say I do think they've really screwed up the TMNT with Bay's hard on for military stuff emphasizing Foot SOLDIERS and the turtles being not only bullet proof but able to......shoot bullets back out of their shells? THAT is one point that is just utterly stupid. Superman is one of the most boring super heroes of all time because he's just unbeatable. Don't make the turtles near invincible.

I mean, why bother with stealth when you can just walk head first into gunfire with no concerns of getting hit in a vital area other than the head? :/

For that matter, protect your head and walk straightforward into gunfire and just.....shoot the bullets back out of your shell. >_< :x

Hopefully the one scene is all that makes use of this, imo, utter stupidity.

You mean Laird. Eastman is working on the film. ;)

That said, though, Laird didn't like the designs last he commented (and a lot of people were not liking them at that time; in hindsight they were unpolished and had some notable differences to now/final product, in my view). For the movie itself, he said he wouldn't form an opinion until it was out and he had seen it.

As SwiftNinjaFox said, you're likely thinking of Peter Laird, not Kevin Eastman.

But yeah, damn the guy who co-created the thing we're all fans of. :trazz:

He co-created them and he has a preferred vision of the concept. And he's entitled to that at least as much of any of us are. That's not a "problem". (Not being able to accept or deal with differing opinions is, though!)

Bullet proof turtles make SwiftNinjaFox :x

Run time....kind of disappointed. I'd prefer 2 hours. Back to the Future is 2 hours long. It works if the pacing is right.

Humor, hit and miss. I don't like the "shell getting tight" joke. I don't like fart jokes, but I acknowledge farts are high comedy for kids (though I'd usually assume under 13) as well.

But then, "He's using his 'Batman voice'," "Still learning all the buttons," "Sorry that sounded suuuper creepy, wewillfindyouthough," MC Mikey, and others have hit the right notes for me. I'm more favorable towards the humor with a few sounding like they'll fall flat for me.

They are REALLY testing just how loyal the fans are now. I mean, most of us have been on board even though they made so many changes. The physical alterations took some getting used to, but overall not bad and I'm really digging them now. Then we had to overcome Megan Fox as April... Then Knoxville as Leo... Then the fact that they're bulletproof... Okay, it's a stretch but I'll go along with it... Now Raphael can flex bullets out of his shell and shoot them back? ...It's like they just want to see how far they can take it before we all back out.

Sooo... what I had vaguely thought I saw in that one trailer, where Raph appears to "shoot" the bullets back at them from his cheat (for lack of a better way of describing that) is really happening? Erm... oookay.. So..natural bony chest plate, or product of Rubbermaid and just springs right back? It's a wonder they only aimed for his chest.

Donnie, did you formulate a shell coating that was bullet proof?

Edit: And if they're bullet proof then why didn't that thing stuck to Leo, seen when he's rescuing the people, bounce the hell right off him. :\ I swear, if they have some scene where they have to painfully get that damn thing off him... I think Raph flying shell first into that car smashing it during the snow chase in the trailers is what probably caused his shell to crack. Also Raph was seen fighting Shredder in that building in the trailers and Raph is thrown into concrete shell first. So think Raphs shell gets quite a beating.

Did kids tune in to watch them eat pizza and surf or was that a bonus to watching them battle bad guys.

just sayin...trying to say that the movie isn't serious compared to the original flick or maybe even certain parts of 2k3 and definitely the mirage books, is one thing. but when you try to compare the tone of this movie to the "seriousness" of the 80's toon...i'm not buying it. yes, the first season (all 5 episodes of it) and the red sky seasons (less successfully) tried a more serious take, the SIX SEASONS in between were not only laughable, content wise, but shoddy lots of times quality-wise (speaking about technical things like animation and voice-work).

im not saying that the movie can't be done seriously, or with a darker tone--far from it(I'd LOOOOVE a straight up adaptation of mirage issue #1)--im just saying using the above argument is weak and doesn't really say much to sway those that don't hold the OT in high esteem.

Also didn't the DCAU guys lift the red sky look from TMNT? Dini was a fan of the show.

batman tas came out in 92, i believe. the red skies didnt come about til like 94-95.

FANS can be absolute d***s -

There are ways to ask questions like this, that 1) are a little more respectful, and 2) are better worded, so as to make a strong point, but still get a question answered.

It tightened too much. :twink:
Wink-wink. Nudge-nudge.

So the quality of a TMNT story depends on how serious the tone is? Did you even read your own signature?
What? How did you made this conclusion from my post? :o

Just because it doesn't follow your TMNT bible doesn't make it "ape **** or a **** fest" some of you guys are so pessimistic it really shows how sad, lonely, and pathetic your lives must be. stop acting like TMNT is your creation and paramount stole your idea and isn't creating the movie to your direction.

Of course I'm not saying that that but isn't in the "good" seasons (I'd also include 7 in there sans the tacked on EU vacation eps) that people remember and want to see replicated. Surely the reaction to the reaction Turtle Forever proves that. The turtles could stop the hi-jinx when it was appropriate to do so.

I've yet to see any of the turtles take anything seriously in this picture. While I'm not personally offended by toilet humor it seems an odd fit in attempting to replicate a show that never relied on that kind of humor and is aimed at the kids of today.

batman tas came out in 92, i believe. the red skies didnt come about til like 94-95.

Batman: The Animated Series didn't actually use the red sky. It was the various retooled seasons or spin offs like The New Batman adventures that used that.

There's also an interesting that went around years ago that when they were making Justice League Unlimited and they'd get a note saying they couldn't do x on saturday morning cartoon they would argue back "well there was a TMNT (2003) that did y and they got away with it".

ha! thats hilarious. maybe they were able to get away with certain stuff because 2k3 was done by 4kids (more independent/lesser known), as opposed to the WB or Fox Kids (or wherever the DCAU was airing at that time).

I was totally getting into this movie. Every new thing that was being released was making the movie look better and better, until..........dick jokes and bulletproof turtles.

Mikey's sex and dick jokes are so so terrible. And honestly, I think I could get behind bulletproof shells on the backs of the turtles, but bulletproof plastrons? I don't think so, even worse is that Raphael is actually able to flex and shoot the bullets back?!??! So stupid, how does his plastron, a freakin' shell, flex anyway? Makes no sense and is corny as hell.

I'm genuinely surprised that absolutely zero film footage from the con has made its way to the internet.

With a fan base as rabid as the one for TMNT, and with its official US release in under two weeks, I thought for sure hype would be high and someone would have snuck out their camera phone during the screening of new footage, and posted it somewhere.

I'm hoping that something comes along soon, the wait for this movie had been easier due to little tv spots here and there showing just a touch of new footage, but man, I'd love to see the footage the con attendees were privileged to.

Personally, I'm not too bothered by the "I can feel my shell tightening" line. Naturally, that feels pretty tame in my opinion, particularly in comparison to what I feared from reading the words "dick jokes."

However, having said that, it may or may not be a bit risque for a film that has the Nickelodeon logo attached to it. Sure, fart jokes are synonymous with the network, but all too obviously hinting at a boner? Well, to me, that's a little too much for this film.

The line doesn't phase me, being an adult and all, but what does worry me is the film becoming too reliant on such humor, as was prevalent in the Transformers films, particularly the two of the three sequels that I've seen. For one, the jokes feel out of place and seriously bog down the pace, story, running time, and more importantly, what everyone who pays for a Transformers film wants to see, the action. Also, the jokes aren't even funny. They're the equivalent of musings a junior high schooler would make while eating that nasty, greasy, cardboard pizza slice in the cafeteria.

It's like The Hangover Light, at times. I don't want any Ninja Turtles film to be like that.

I can totally handle Mikey being a bit flirty in general, suits his personality. A very small hint of innocent perv, is fine too (the Victoria's Secret billboard part made me snicker). The "shell tightening" line does feel a bit too much, tho... He should come of as childish, not a creeper. I really hope that's the only line of that caliber we get from him in the movie.

I've noticed in the clip where Mikey says "adult conversations," as soon "conversations" comes out of his mouth Leo's eyes shoot straight to Mikey's direction and he gets up with his eyes still locked on him. I am hoping Leo is about to tell him to quit it. Seems reasonable to think that Leo would, and to me doing so would at least partially excuse the inclusion of such comments.

Megan Fox was confused and bothered by the fact that there was not more time to answer questions at the panel. However, she should have realized that it was not just a panel for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It was a panel for Paramount Pictures and their upcoming films.

You know that Comic-Con is about to spring some surprises on you when they've got Megan Fox up on the dais at Hall H, yet they start rushing her off after five minutes. "Why can't the audience have more time to ask questions?" asked a confused Fox, who was at Comic-Con to promote Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles — ostensibly Paramount's biggest coming attraction here — and had barely spent any time onstage before the studio terminated her Q&A. The unofficial reason for Fox's quick hook came later in the Paramount panel, when two unannounced guests appeared and immediately became the stars of the show: Matthew McConaughey and his Interstellar director Christopher Nolan, Comic-Con virgins both.

The thing is, Mikey is usually seen as the "innocent" one of the group. Either way, I'm just not keen of any of the TMNT being like this towards a woman. Casey, yeah, maybe Vern. But other than a quip of "She's hot", I think it's too crude for the Turtles. So, we have Vernon and Mikey oggling over April, and then there is going to be something with Victoria's Secret. Yeah, some things simply should not be in a TMNT movie, Good way to chase away half your audience.

Real teenagers also masturbate, crap and puke in the toilet, and I'm sure a great deal of them experiment with drinking beer or smoking pot, but it doesn't mean we have to actually see it happen on the big screen. And anyway, I always thought that the TMNT, being secluded from the outside, being raised by a somewhat strict Ninja master, would make them more mature and noble compared to most teenagers. Hell, look at how the Harry Potter kids were portrayed, they were teenagers while not being obnoxious, why can't the TMNT be the same way in the movie? They are like this in the 80's toon, the prior movies, the 2k3 and the 2012, why start down this road now when it wasn't needed?

I very rarely if ever post on this forum, so this may fall on deaf ears(eyes?)

1. They were raised underground and did not interact with other New Yorkers, they get their accents from watching TV, that's why Mikey always hasn't had a NY accent. Leo is always more serious almost Splinter-like. Raph is the only one who gets close to the NY accent because he actually sneaks out into NYC. Donnie get's his accent from TV or now we can assume youtube and other internet videos. I was concerned with Johnny Knoxville being Leo's voice, but from what I've heard he sounds fine.

2. The "sexual" humor complaints. You're just grasping at straws here, teenagers who have grown up watching only tv, and now this version has the internet, that would be a part of their humor. To say the shell tightening line is too much, then go into discussions of turtle boners, you might have some sort of sexual hangups you need to look at. It's a MOVIE. Mikey and April are not going to have sex, he's a young kid who thinks she's hot. In the 90's movie he calls her a babe. In the new cartoon Donnie is in love with April. They are throw away lines, that most movie goer's are going to laugh at and not be offended by or upset at, because there are a LOT worse things going on in movies now, this is really NOTHING you should be upset about, it's not like the whole movie you're going to be thinking of Mikey's turtle boner...or maybe you will, but that's your problem.

3. Bulletproof shells...this is one I had to really think about. Out of context it sounds bad, because they're making a major change to what we know. BUT, the foot soldiers all have guns, it would be ridiculous to think the whole movie the turtles would avoid all the bullets. This iteration of the turtles has them being created as weapons, so bulletproof shells sounds like something they could have been working on perfecting. Now, I am interested to see how they handle the Shredder fight, because if their shells are bulletproof, why not just let Shredder shoot all his blades and just block them w/ their shells? I'll just have to see for myself in 2 weeks.

Lastly, I have been waiting for his movie for forever. I was worried at first, but the more that's being released the more it looks like it's going to be great, and I can only hope they make more and more of them. Can't get enough TMNT, in all the different versions we've had all our lives.

One thing I like to point out over the bulletproof shells.

People complained about how weak the Transformers were (in all films) as they were getting destroyed too easily.

Now people are complaining that the turtles are too strong and it's probably because you want to see the turtles with some blood on them and have some injuries.

He should come of as childish, not a creeper.
Which to be honest is how the trailers have made me feel about him, which is unfortunate. I mean come on, who doesn't usually like Mikey, even if he isn't your fave. This version so far though, no thanks; creepy-looking creeper.:ohwell: Maybe the movie as a whole will allow him to save his own rep a little, vs what the trailers are doing...

Fart joke... while at my age is just "bleh," I'm not surprised it's there. Given Nick's current programming they're eventually going to have a series that's just one big half hour fart joke anyhow. The billboard.. fine, giggle over it Mikey. At least Raph looks like he sighs/shakes his head in response.

The sexual comments though... As a woman in my 30s I can't help but look at that from the angle of being in April's position receiving unwanted, uninvited sexual comments from someone, let alone non-human people you're kind of afraid of, look like Mikey, and are way too young for you anyhow. As I said, IF Mikey is put in his place over it, fine, I can sorta forgive such lines. But in a social context it's distasteful that Hollywood likes to do this to female characters. Even Megan Fox.

Sure, it's "just teenagers acting like teenagers" IF we assume all teens act exactly the same. (Can't tell me some kids out there don't resent that notion.) And ok there's tv and internet, but this is also four non-humans who did not grow up around humans and instead of spending much of the time surrounded by other teens in high school and getting that strong influence they spent much of their whole lives involved in martial arts training, something that would naturally be instilling a lot of discipline and decent behavior as taught by Splinter...at least enough not act creepy to people.

Nooo not in my case at least. I am perfectly fine with them escaping injury out of shear luck/skill. I'm already afraid that whatever the heck that thing is stuck to Leo's chest in the piece where he's getting April and Vern out of the truck... already afraid they're going to portray that as painful to get off of him and really don't want that to be the case. :( I can deal with them being stronger than usual, though I do feel it takes away a little from their usually relateable non-superhero quality.

OK, a lot to address here.

1. You said yourself Hollywood does this to women in movies, so if they're growing up watching movies and TV shows, then they would assume this is how you react to real people. You said they don't have interaction with other high schoolers, right, which again proves they would have NO idea how to act around her. He has no shot at being with April, can't you just take it as a joke he's trying to hit on her?

2. 1 out of 4 of them are doing "fart humor" or "sexual humor" ONE out of FOUR. You're acting like the whole movie is going to be Mikey trying to molest April. If you saw the Behind the Scenes show on Nick, they had a part where Mikey says he's falling for April, and she just laughed it off. I think she figures out quickly they aren't bad, and Mikey in particular is silly.

3. "even Meghan Fox" You show disgust over Hollywood's treatment of women, then bash Meghan Fox as being some sort of lower level woman. She has been with the same guy since she's been doing movies, married him, has 2 or 3 kids with him, and has never done nudity, and maybe has never even done a sex scene in a movie. Why is she considered lower than other Hollywood actresses? Why do people get so offended at the things that are natural in life? Farts happen, it's life. Sex, and being attracted to women is natural, and happens in life. It's crazy to think these are the things people are crying about, and not the fact that it would appear the foot soldiers are doing mass shootings and murders all over NYC.

4. Sure it's just teenagers acting like teenagers if we assume all teenagers act this way. NO. ONE OUT OF FOUR is acting this way. He's always been the turtle with no filter, says silly things, he has NEVER interacted with a human being let alone a woman before, give it a rest already.

5. Non-Humans. Tell me if I'm wrong here, but the reason they're human like is because the mutagen combines the subject, and the last thing it touched. In the old story the kid drops them down the sewer, so they last had human contact, which is why they are human like. Same with splinter, he last touched a human so he becomes human like. It would be normal for them to be attracted to women, especially since they are 4 of a kind, and there are no female turtles, which is actually really sad.

Dude, just because it happens doesn't mean people want to see it in the movies, and certainly not in a TMNT one. And again, Harry Potter were teenagers, who grew up watching TV, and being schooled by strict teachers at the same time, and they were never portrayed as obnoxious, why can't we expect the thing from the Turtles? I highly doubt they were ever like this in the comics. As a woman, I am offended that the Turtles are going this route, I should not have to feel uncomfortable for being a woman when watching a TMNT movie in the theater. Really, if this is what the creators of this movie think, then maybe all women should skip this movie, because it's clear they are only catering to the perverted male demographic. Shame, since the Turtles have been so friendly for both sexes to enjoy. I wonder how awkward this is going to be if a dad takes his little girl to see this movie, what with April butt shots, Turtles looking out the breasts of a Victoria Secret billboard, and an erection joke. Yep, this movie is not for the females.

to be fair who would take their little girl to a PG-13 Turtles movie in the first place. Just because movies are being made based off characters that also have cartoons doesn't mean it will be appropriate for all ages watching the cartoons of said product.

I'm sorry floydbanks7 but i agree with IndigoErth

just so you know the "last organism they touched thing" was only from the Fred wolf TMNT cartoon, sure the've taken bits from it in the Nick series, but it's not the original story, so them being part human thing doesn't count, so tbh in reality i think if four Turtles were mutated into human-like forms they wouldn't show any attraction to humans whatsoever, only their own species, so Mikey seeing April and being attracted to April doesn't really make sense (assuming they aren't taking inspiration from the FW origin)

i'm not too fond of the Mikey sexual jokes either, it's unnecessary imo just because he's a teenager dooesn't give him a free pass to make these jokes Let alone being a Turtle, not all teenagers are like that.

@IndigoErth
Maybe I am reading too much into it, I'm just blown away that people are taking 2 LITTLE jokes and making them to be these mega offensive things, that are putting women down. They're jokes, you laugh or you don't. They're not trying to push an anti-woman agenda on the audience. People are getting way too serious these days, try not caring so much about unimportant things, you might be happier. And I'm not trying to attack you at all, I had read a few things over at IMDB that made me cringe, and thought it was a troll or two, but to read it here, kind of pushed me to comment on it.

People assuming that the movie is going to be similar to the Nickelodeon cartoon, which is kid friendly, and just think the PG-13 is there because of the violence.

And I thought Bay wasn't doing this movie. Hmmmmm. Hey, I thought he did a great job with Scar Jo in The Island. He did pretty great with Racheal Taylor and Francis McDormand in the Transformers flicks, so he does have potential. But really, if Michael Bay really has far more stamp on this then expected, I am expecting Mikey to be caught reading Playboy, or who knows, maybe even watching a snippet of one of the Playboy videos Michael Bay actually shot himself.
