heres the thing...because of all the criticism this movie (the little we've actually seen) is getting on social media, I've all but thought, by extension, this would certainly be RIPPED APART by critics...
...now granted, I know the opinions expressed are done so by TWO authors, and there are plenty more who may not have enjoyed the footage to their extent, but reading what I did, certainly helps my optimism.
I feel like this movie has the potential to really surprise people. From the impression these writers gave, its looking like they've (PD, Liebsman, Bay...yes, Bay) have done a good job about capturing the humor that permeated the old 'toon, mixing it with the amazing action you'd come to expect from modern comic book films. and quite honestly, as a long time fan, I dont think I could ask for more...I mean sure, a great story, but thats a given. :D

The fact is this movie is exactly what it needed to be: fun and lighthearted in an age where dark and gritty is what comic book nerds fap to these days...

Don't like the "bulletproof shells" aspect… but that was pretty much a given from what we've heard previously. Other than that, everything sounds pretty great! I'm stoked.

Alright, so little by little it sounds at least a bit more promising. Doesn't sound like some are getting the dark movie they wanted though. And I dunno about a few of those things... bullet proof shells, the Mikey comment about April (yeah, that's a cringe right there that may not help family friendly ratings if there are other similar quips), humor and personalities is good to hear more reference to though.
That bit about seeing the actors faces in them though... wasn't that something people were weary of? lol

Ugh sounds even worse than I expected.
There's always been a danger that when doing the personalities of the turtles you can have them all slink into one character were they all speak and act the same or over blow them were Donatello only talks about about "smart" things and Raph the only one able to show anger and so on. It seems this movie is going the latter.
TMNT is supposed to have humor but it shouldn't override any sense of seriousness. I'm not expecting a Return To New York movie or a The River or even want that degree of seriousness but it seems the yucks are nonstop.
Don't care for Don having such advanced tech right out the gate or the movie being April's journet but hey we got a line from the first TMNT comic, that outta please us...right?

So should I assume that this will be primarily aimed for a kiddy movie? I was hoping for an Avengers type tone with a little bit of both Dark and lighthearted mixture. Sounds like it may be more lighthearted than anything.

This is exactly what I wanted to hear. I've remained neutral since the beginning but I wanted this movie to be good. Over the last few weeks, I've noticed a lot of the naysayers warming up to it a bit. It seems a lot of the anger over this movie was drawn more from speculation instead of fact. That's easy to understand do to the lack of info all the way up to just a couple of months ago. It looks like they actually made a ninja turtles movie! I was on the fence about the accessories the turtles have but after seeing a lot of the new footage, it doesn't bother me. I still doubt that Hamato Yoshi and Oroku saki are in this but if the storyline they came up with works, I don't really mind it. At least we know that splinter and the turtles start out as a rat and turtles and that splinter trains the turtles in ninjutsu and all of the voices/ personalities have remained intact. Yes the turtles are bigger but if they were spliced with human DNA, it makes sense that they would grow to adult human size. Also people like bigger and better these days. I'm happy to see a rooftop fight against shredder. Also I'm glad that it's going to have some comedy and that some of the language and jokes are intended for us older fans. Will it be the best movie ever? No, but it's certainly not Blue Door, a rape of our childhoods, or disrespectful to the source material. I'm starting to understand why the cast and crew have been so optimistic about this and I hope it is as good as they say.

Well I dunno about should... kinda hard to assume the opinions of two strangers somehow sets the opinion of all other TMNT fans like they're some kind of church leaders. However it's still nice to read their thoughts on it though after being lucky enough to see those scenes.
So should I assume that this will be primarily aimed for a kiddy movie?
Sounds like... in level of maturity, yes. In dialogue, no.

I expected an action comedy, so I'm okay with that.
The strike hard and fade away fits just fine and I like them throwing it in. I'm sure it fits in with the scene where they're all talking about their own bad-assness right before the "What was that?" "A camera flash...." on the roof.
I still don't like them being so huge, especially with the review mentioning Leo's thundering foot steps as he sprints towards an enemy. So if that's the case, sounds like it's not just "oh, he made himself hit the roof hard so it cracked" (which still makes no sense to me anyway).
I hate the sound of Mikey's fixation on April, though. Sexual innuendo does not need to be included among the turtles in my opinion. Saying "I'm in love" and confirming April's a fox is one thing, but his shell feels tighter to give the suggestive or arousal? Meh.
Cool confirmation that they're 16....even if they don't physically look it.
The bulletproof shells are straight from the Blue Door scrip, though Mike pointed it was bullet resistant and still hurt like a....
Still seems like they went a little super hero on them to me, though.
"Now that you guys see the turtles, if you looked at the actors, like if you took a picture of each actor, like Noel Fisher who plays Michelangelo, you put him next to his turtle, like, I see Noel. Like, literally. It’s him. He comes through that turtle. It’s crazy how much the guys come through in the turtles if you do side-by-side. And I don’t think any of us expected that, that you’d really see their faces inside these turtles."
To me, that's the real reason they have such human faces, not "so they can be as expressive as possible" or anything. It's so the actors have a presence in the performance. Gotta get that money maker out there.
Still, I'm starting to feel more likely I'll see it in theaters and hopefully enjoy it, even if I come out not liking the looks still.
Seeing them in motion, I do think they look WAY better than the still images. I actually think Raphael looks worst to me. I was leery, I'm still leery about some aspects, but also seeing things that are shaping up the way I would hope/want.

I know there will always be a certain degree of scoffing from critics but I do believe a good TMNT movie would be viewed positively. Roger Ebert notoriously hated childrens movies based on mass marketed toy-lines and made no secret he loathed TMNT in particular but he grudgingly gave the Steve Barron movie a positive review because it subverted his expectations.
Like I said journalists are never going to come away from a screening like that with negative view and the fact that both seem to make the point that "hey it's talkin' turtles" as an excuse for eye rolling stuff.
To be honest what really matters to me as a fan is what I think. Honestly I'm not hearing anything that enthuses me at all.

Oh I'm sure people will love this movie...but how many?
I know this movie is not for me and unless something big comes out to convince me otherwise I don't plan on seeing it however I'm still a fan that's leery about the affect it will have a the franchise. Also expressing opinions has been important to this movie as it has facilitated some pretty big changes sadly this has been grudgingly and far too late to really make a product that satisfy most people it's a sign to me that if this movie pulls in GI Joe numbers and Paramount is wondering why there's an outside chance a voice in their heads will say "the fans were right all along...right all along...right all along...right all along" and keep it in mind for the next go around.

Well I think what he's saying is, this is the only review out there so far from anyone who has actually seen finished scenes from the movie and it's positive. That makes me feel better. Now if it was two good reviews vs ten bad ones, I'd worry. But all of the bad reviews so far have been from people who have only seen the trailers and read about it online. Also the reviewers didn't come off to me like they were praising the movie higher than they should. They just reported on what they saw and they liked it. Doesn't mean everyone will, but I doubt they were just praising it to get hits on their website especially nowadays when cynicism gets more hits than positivity.

Usually an interviewer who has been granted special access is a big sign that they do not trash talk any product. Companies want to make a good impression with the public so they would only select the interviewers who are more optimistic.
Since they said the holographic watch does belong to Donatello and he created, kind of gives the movie some negative points. The writers are inconsistent with their characters, Don can make a holographic watch but can't repair and improve his broken glasses. This is like Signs all over again, Aliens who mastered space flying technology couldn't get past a wooden door.
Being critically acclaimed matters so much because it would become a classic and really pull in a new audience. Being critically acclaimed also means the movie is aware of its characters and their actions. For every action there is a reaction.
Yet being fun and entertaining can sell so much as well. Perhaps the movie won't be so bad. I know I am enjoying the turtles being muscular, sturdy ninjas. The plot doesn't seem so bad either. So I am expecting a decent movie full of laughs and action.

Somehow, I'm not surprised they kept the bulletproof shell aspect from Blue Door script. I still wonder if we're actually going to actually Foot ninja, and not these militarized version of the Foot.
Still, it does seem the footage had a positive reaction. I still have some reservations against this film, but it will be interesting to see how well this film will perform.

I dunno. Not reading anything here that makes me any more hopeful. In fact, a few of my fears were totally confirmed. this is good. i'd say its reassuring.
sure, it's just two random guys opinions, but either they're fans that didn't hate it, or non-hardcores (seems like the term "casuals" around here, even when meant in a non-insulting way, has become a taboo word) that were stoked.
i've really been trying to not get my hopes up or let any cynicsm creep in, but honestly all the promo and marketing and trailers and such have kinda swayed me into a definite hype mode.
one thing i'd really be interested in hearing is how these scenes compared to some of liebsman's other work. (i fell asleep through wrath of the titans and never watched battle la) no matter how hyped i get, or how blind my love for the turtles may be, i still have to remember that this is a PRODUCT (art? i guess you're mileage may vary...) that is being MADE by a group of people, the highest ranking two of which have made other things I have REALLY not liked.
a comparison like that would give me a better bead on where this thing is at tonally, or at the very least give me a control to better make an informed decision.
blah! all that aside...

What would enthuse you? I'm really curious. What would your dream turtles movie be?
Honestly I've never given much thought into what my dream TMNT movie partly because I know I'd never get it and partly I've generally satisfied with most versions and pretty open to all kinds of things. A good example is Nolan's Batman movies, I can't say they were my dream Batman movies because prior to Begins I never thought you could make a Batman movie like that.
I actually don't think a lot of the concepts introduced here are actually bad. The fact that the turtles are garbed differently is fine in fact I even suggested it myself years ago when discussing the IDW series but having so much crap on them looks garish.
The idea that they are stronger..again fine with me and something I've always thought anyway but four mini Hulks is taking it way too far.
Don's tech, an upgraded Shredder, the humor is all fine...except it's executed in a way that feels over the top and wrong to me.
I actually think the best approach for this movie would have been to play it safe. The 1990 movie in modern setting, take out the Danny subplot and Splinter being kidnapped, have the Foot more like a sophisticated organised crime group, perhaps have it Leo being attacked by the Foot like the comics, add in Baxter and some Mousers maybe, have the turtles rendered in the same manner as Where The Wild Things Are and Hellboy and have them actually beat Shredder themselves.
Sure it's been done before but that was almost 25 years ago. I think we can cover similar ground again.
I also think how this movie is important, at least to me. We've been lied to and deceived so many times in the making of this movie I'm cynical over everything. If they'd been honest about this and maybe even let us in on their plans it would have mutually beneficial like it was for the first Transformers movie. Instead we got them trying to go their own way and hide everything until the last minute and then being surprised we don't care for it.
Thing is we're in a weird place now. Obviously this movie is going to make money but if doesn't do spectacular numbers then what happens next? A sequel? One that tries to be different despite a lot of the changes being too big to go back and not feel jarring. A reboot? So soon?

Turtles 1- Mikey kisses the tv when April's on and says "I'm in love!"
Turtles 3- Leo and Donny make a boner joke when April is tearing her dress into a skirt. "A leg-o-rama! Sha-wing!"
Nick series- Donny has a crush on April.
The turtles having an attraction to April or riffing on someone being a babe or whatever is a lot different than literally stating they have an erection. Jesus, c'mon.
"You're cute!"
"You've made me hard!"
Which one is better suited to be in a film that has some level of aim towards a young audience?
from everyone's "i'm too sophisticated for THAT type of humor" responses, i'm wondering if i'm the only one that did.
Yeah, let's just assume someones distaste for a lewd joke is a matter of ego, 'cause that's fair. Whether or not I make sex jokes in my life has no bearing on the turtles' vocabulary. The turtles may not be Shakespeare, but they're certainly above that tier of low-brow humor & THAT is what's disappointing. They've never had to sink that low to get a laugh.

Some of you are acting like he went into disgusting detail or whipped it out or something. He just made a corny joke that wasn't that bad and the other turtles probably roll their eyes or smack him in the back of the head after he says it. Mikey has always been the immature one. Now if Leo or Raph said it, that would be creepy.

Exactly, They are behaving exactly how Teenagers would act when in the presence of a hot looking girl.
I still go back to the notion of April's new haircut having Raph compliment her with "You look great" followed by the thought of "for a human."
Don't like reading that Mikey comes off as a creep in what they saw.
I also worry about the type of humor this movie is going for if they're throwing in boner jokes.
I expect it won't be ongoing through the film. Probably just that one, but it's just a type of humor I don't care for.
Dogs humping and "your girlfriend's a criminal....criminals are HOT" were two things that turned me off Transformers. Hopefully TMNT won't go further and we won't get "I'm below the robot's scrotum" level of stupidity.
Y'know, thinking of all the juvenile crap in Transformers if a reference to shell feeling tighter is all TMNT has, I'll applaud it for its maturity, actually.
Also note, most people are saying they like the sound of it, BUT don't like that joke. Even the reviews said he borders on creepy to them. It's not like everyone that doesn't like that joke is saying the entire film is ruined by it, just that they don't care for it.

Well, many of us don't own those bits to be inspired to make such jokes. :goof:
If they straight up made this aimed at adults fine. Still really cringe worthy, but whatever. But the fact that this is still "not yet rated" and hearing about this line prob isn't helping people at all figure out if they can take the kids or leave them home...
Different times than when a lot of us were young. Sure, we weren't innocent and a lot of these kids now aren't either, but parents are more up tight now, not much can be changed about that, and references are often a lot less vague than they used to be.
At most, they're hurting the potential family friendliness. If it's not actually really aimed at kids after all, well, so be it then but they should make it clear.

Ah come on. It was one little subtle joke that will most likely go right over most kids heads. I've seen way more sexual jokes on Nickelodeon and even the Disney Channel. Go back and look at all of the dick and boner jokes in Rocko's Modern Life or even Spongebob. Like I said earlier, one could easily argue that he's not even talking about having a boner. I didn't say he did. I said people are suggesting those two are equivalents. And the shell would be the whole front, back, and connecting sides. Hence why when you find a turtle that's died and decayed, you have a complete shell. ;)
But yeah, tired of the argument already. People only said they didn't like the joke and the reviewers said he came off kinda creepy.
Hell, maybe that's the point. Maybe he realizes it culminating in the "We'll find youuuuu" bit.
I'm not saying the entire movie just tanked in a burning fiery wreckage over a single joke I don't like the sound off. Yeesh

This isnt directed at any individual. And im not trying to start a flame war either. I just have to get this off my chest after months and months of seemingly wasted time and energy here on the Drome.. You know.. there has been a TON of back and forth.. and a lot of it has gotten out of hand. A lot of us tried to tell some of the cynics to " wait and see " and that judging a lot of this stuff without context is a waste of time esp when your deciding to write the movie off as a whole. A lot of folks have come here day in and day out asking the same questions to us " pro film folks " in a very obnoxious manner. Where's the martial arts? they're too big to be ninja's, they're too big to be stealthy. Me and Sam tried to tell people over and over and over that they WILL be stealthy and they WILL be ninja's and they WILL be teenagers and their accessories HAVE a purpose and that when taking CONTEXT into consideration these things would all make sense.. but nooo.. no one wanted to listen and give this film and it's makers the benefit of the doubt that they just might actually be telling the truth in their interviews. Some folks would just write this off as just another mindless BAY film with absolutely zero substance.. that no one cared about doing these characters right and that none of them took the time to research what TMNT was. People called Eastman a studio plant liar every time he spoke a word. The same woman that called them penis heads and made fun of the first trailer? Along with everyone here? What does she have to say now that CONTEXT has been given? Lets see There were two standout elements of this portion of the presentation – the humor and the incredible detail on the turtles. It isn’t just about having a certain color mask and a particular weapon anymore. As you’ve seen in the character posters, these guys are loaded with personality-appropriate accessories, and not just items that you get a quick look at and think, ‘Oh, that’s cool,’ and forget about. Sure, we only saw a fraction of the full feature, but every single second the turtles were on screen, they were downright fascinating to look at. It never got old.
Yep.. sooo MANY PEOPLE prematurely jumped onto this internet hate trend bandwagon trying to turn this movie into the laughing stock of the internet.. now the joke is on them lol. Wait.. there's more lol, The Ninja Turtles franchise always had humor, but the extent Liebesman takes it to here came as a nice surprise. Yes, we had that scene in the trailer with Michelangelo teasing April with his mask and the other where she tries to explain to Whoopi Goldberg’s character that the guys are both turtles and ninjas, but seeing the jokes in context, right alongside a major action scene, really shows how far that humor goes – and how successful it is, too. Noel Fisher, in particular, is priceless as Michelangelo. The way he moves, his facial expressions and the intonation of his dialogue makes his material remarkably natural and truly laugh-out-loud worthy.
Form told us about the one thing that really shocked him about the final design of the turtles:
“Now that you guys see the turtles, if you looked at the actors, like if you took a picture of each actor, like Noel Fisher who plays Michelangelo, you put him next to his turtle, like, I see Noel. Like, literally. It’s him. He comes through that turtle. It’s crazy how much the guys come through in the turtles if you do side-by-side. And I don’t think any of us expected that, that you’d really see their faces inside these turtles.”
From there it was on to another scene that you probably caught in the film’s promotional campaign, something Form dubbed “the snow chase sequence.” Admittedly, I’ve picked on this material quite a bit when assessing the Ninja Turtles trailers, not because it doesn’t look good, but rather because, out of context, what they’re doing doesn’t make much sense and that takes the thrill out of it. However, that’s certainly not the case when you watch the whole thing through.
There is a lot going on in this sequence, but it’s actually really easy to keep track of everyone because the turtles are so strong on an individual level. In addition to different posture, shell sizes and accessories, the turtles also have very different attitudes and those attitudes are impressively well woven into all the combat. And the same goes for the humor here as well. The laughs aren’t relegated to quieter, talk-driven moments. This is a full-blown race down a mountain yet the turtles are constantly dishing out zingers, and that’s a big part of the reason the material is fun to watch.
Really, that’s probably the biggest takeaway from this presentation. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles isn’t just another combat-driven, CGI-heavy hero film. It’s a true action comedy, and that lighter tone could wind up being what makes it stand out.
How many times... how many back and forth hostile arguments did people insist on having about these things? Battling us every inch of the way? This article says it all. It proves that all of the effort trying to get the cynics to take a step back and think before posting the daily hate that was being posted. I said it.. Samxsteal said it.. a lot of us have said it over and over.. and no one wanted to listen.. everyone wanted to just dismiss everything as failure before even seeing a damn trailer. A lot of people were wrong about SO MANY things.. The first critic reviews are overwhelmingly positive.. The comment sections on Comic book movie Facebook Twitter and other sites has become overwhelmingly positive. We weren't just " following blindly " just bc it's TMNT. We connected the dots. We saw things not only for what they were.. but for what they could be. People didn't seem to learn anything after the Nick cartoon premiered.. Maybe.. just maybe.. they will learn this time, that you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. I doubt it though.

Sometimes, you just need to do what you tell the negative nancys to do, just let it go.
And personally, this post actually confirms my suspicions of you pretty much. Not that it's a bad thing, but good luck. Honestly, despite my feelings about the faces and some things here and there, I hope I can enjoy the movie almost as much as you.:)

Look... I can agree and have for a while that the most vocal sorts of critics can be annoying. Those who are determined that the world is falling down because of this.
But I will also be completely, and possibly slightly brutally, honest - and I mean no offense to anyone because most of you seem like pretty cool people in your own right no matter your opinions on this whole deal - but speaking in these sorts of tones, which I have often seen...
Me and Sam tried to tell people over and over and over... ...but nooo.. no one wanted to listen...
Battling us every inch of the way?
It proves that all of the effort trying to get the cynics...
...a lot of us have said it over and over.. and no one wanted to listen..
Etc.
...sounds a bit egotistical if it's not coming from the film makers themselves.
All these past months, years even, none of us who aren't involved in this film have been going on much more than guesses, assumptions, hopes, and fears. NONE of us actually KNOW if this thing is going to be awesome or if its going to be awful.
Some people seem to be doing an unnecessary amount of freaking out.
Some seem to be doing an unnecessary amount of jumping up and down.
And some, on either side, seem to be doing an unnecessary level of "everyone else is wrong on the internet" combined with an assumed and not yet proven "I told you so."
MAYBE, between now and release people can figure out how to just be diplomatic, learn to laugh at some of it, learn to take some conversations as a joke, and realize that no opinion of any other person is capable of ruining their own enjoyment (or determined lack of) of whatever we're in for, be it turn out to be good, bad, or very possibly something in between.
I mean, perish forbid not everyone agree with one specific opinion, or dare to not have the exact same preferences or tastes. :trolleye:
That non-stop aggressiveness from some folks here in pushing a certain opinion or point of view is super tiring. Opinions will always differ. Accept it and let it go.

I just Find it Ironic I remember getting into a long drawn Out Debate ABo0ut the turtles, their actors and the way they looks, And how with the tech And the actors they chose, You could see them in the performance in ways you would not other wise and This was before anything was released, I think While yes it may have been an Assumption Its fairly easy to piece the info together and come to a conclusion Based on Everything involved.
And Guess Who was write this whole time, Its just funny How some people swear up and down certain things about this movie they have been saying the same thing even After countless time they have been proven wrong, its just funny I mean i don care but some people get upset like im attacking them IM not People said there would be no Martial arts then the Live action Human Video came out people started saying " if only this movie had this kind of action" Low and behold Leo in the video Is a stunt double in this movie, And then That still wasn't enough" Oh just because they have the people doesn't mean they will use them"
How far do you have to reach to Express the negativity? Why can you just admit that the likely hood that you were wrong and that there will at the very least be a minimal amount if not more action then previous the previous movies.
Ive used Evidence upon Evidence to show that These "opinions" are next to unfounded,
I have always said CONTEXT means everything, and Even peter expressed that with CONTEXT thing could work, And with this is seem that view/ opinion is correct
Uch... Okay, I'm gonna go back to ignoring this kinda stuff after this, but I feel compelled to say just this one thing:
Stop focusing so hard on being "right", please.
Opinions are subjective. You can't "prove them wrong". Someone may look at this movie and decide they don't like it for any number of reasons, and whether or not you like them, their reasons are 100% valid because they are personal opinions. And personal opinions don't need to live up to whatever arbitrary criteria you cook up in order to be "right".
We're all entitled to whatever opinions we have, and it is very disrespectful and irritating when someone keeps trying to dispute them just because they don't personally agree.

Oh no, keep going Indigo! If we're going to be exposed to boner jokes and shots of Fox's heiney, I don't think anyone has a leg to stand on regarding complaining about fangirls wanting potential shower scenes... :shifty:
So yeah, bulletproof shells eh? *coughBLUEDOORcough* (Don't kill me Sam. ;)) Seriously though, if they manage to make it not look silly onscreen, fair enough but I'm having a bit of a kneejerk cynicism to this. As far as Fox-O'Neill's reporting career... I'd say some of the predictions posted by others here have been fairly spot on regarding that.
Ok, so action comedy it is. Could be worse, I guess. As I've said before, I'll enjoy the parts I can, poke a little harmless fun at the rest and keep holding out for a more Mirage-style movie in the future.

Not everybody has to agree with you, Sam! LET IT GO!
All Im saying is That When People Swear up and down that There was no martial arts, Or Oroku Saki wasn't in the movie, Or that within the context of the movie the Turtles would not look Fine,
These have all been Proven Other wise And i find it funny Its funny Thats it.
This "Us vs. them" crap needs to stop. Jesus Christ, Sam. & it seems clear that's your buddy Puddinpop, too, who is banned from this section. All you're doing is fanning a fire that was about to burn out on its own. Who Ever i got this Message from Was not Targeting anyone. It was a broad Statement about people all over the Internet, Now if you for some reason believe it was targeted toward you thats All on you.
And The whole let it go thing could go in a endless loop, You can let it go that i posted something, i can let it go, you could let it go, You Could let this Whole Movie go and just move on but you refuse to, I could just let this movie go and enjoy it. IT will never end.
It was relevant to the discussion. And When Some one Out right Told Me that the Movie designs were stupid and that they Chose Use these versions for no reason other then to Change things. When i said that they were using them as a means to convey the actors, and It has now been Proven my the producer himself that this has and was always the case proves I was right, Now was the argument with any of you NO. If you dont feel like you need to be defense then Don't worry about my post and move on.
We all have the right to express are opinions, And im expressing my opinions, and were discussing those opinion i wasn't being disrespectful. Just because opinions are criticized does not mean they are not respected.

Well, if we're honest a good portion of that rests on the shoulders of the makers/marketers for being so limited for so long. I mean, even after getting a trailer it still took quite a while to get one really of any substance that really showed 'the guys' and a hint of their personalities. I can't really blame people too much for going on what little there was.. Was it jumping the gun, yeah, maybe, but it was the perspective the marketing gave us to go on.

Wow, from reading the articles it sounds that it's going to be great movie and is going to surprise a lot of people (hopefully TMNT will be way better than Transformers 4). Shame it won't be dark and gritty as we all hoped (but they only saw 2 scenes) but what the hell at least we got a movie. :D

He DIDNT say his pants got tighter! He said his shell got tighter which I'm not an expert on turtle anatomy but his shell is on his back. Now let's move on.
No, the shell is the entire shell, the back part of the Shell is the Carapace and the front part is called the plastron, the side parts is called bridges, it's all one shell. Just because the design department don't know what a turtle shell looks like and didn't include the bridge part, it's still a shell.
And seeing a turtle's private bits are internal organs, "shell got tighter" means only one thing: Boner.

Grows and then pops out, it is on the inside to begin with, hence internal organ.

The bullet proof shells could be a result of the experimention of the terrapin exo-suit armor from the IDW comics... And we know that the 4 turtles were tested before the mutation because of the TV spot that clearly shows a stronger turtle than the normal.

Pretty much what I have expected. Lots of excessive action, coupled with lots of excessive humor and topped with excessive (re)designs. Sounds like Transformers movie to me, allright. Well maybe more personality driven, but still quite a similar mess. Not gonna watch. At least not in the cinema.
The initial trailer and promotions made it seem like the movie was possibly aiming for a darker and more serious tone, but after watching this footage, it's clear the new film is all about having fun and embracing the turtles' distinct personalities.
A-ha-ha. And somebody said they liked this movie because it looked like it will be gritty. Well, there you go.
Now that you guys see the turtles, if you looked at the actors, like if you took a picture of each actor, like Noel Fisher who plays Michelangelo, you put him next to his turtle, like, I see Noel. Like, literally. It’s him. He comes through that turtle.
I would consider it a dubious honor, if my face was seen in the ugly ape-reptillian hybrid. Or at least I would feel a bit awkward about it. But to each its own, I guess. :)

All I really care about is the personalities of the turtles. Get that? You can do whatever around it.
I've heard this a lot so then it makes me wonder why the 2007 movie wasn't better received. It certainly nailed the turtles and Splinter's personalities and the family aspect but at the time most people complained about the convoluted plot and the lame villains - why is this any different?
All Im saying is That When People Swear up and down that There was no martial arts, Or Oroku Saki wasn't in the movie, Or that within the context of the movie the Turtles would not look Fine, l
For a long time we didn't see any indication of martial arts but rather big explosions and in one of the actors own words "lots of car chases". Of course I've never doubted we'd get some degree of martial arts mixed in with that in fact it's pretty much the only input we know Kevin had in the movie to push for that which is shocking because it implies that he felt at that point there wasn't much of it in a movie called Ninja Turtles. The question (at least for me) has always really been how much of it we'll see and how well it gels with the Michael Bay over-the-top style and even the articles seem to say it's jarring with Leo's feel causing thunderous sound effects. Again, even the articles themselves seem to suggest it's still jarring to see and something the audience will have to "get over" as opposed to something we'd legitimately like when we see it done in motion.
The idea that the turtles would not look fine in the context of the movie is still there. There'a always been something of a patronizing attitude that all of us who didn't care for the look of the turtles don't know our own minds and we'd all fall in line when we saw it in the context of the movie. That's not true, to me they are still ugly designs and will be regardless of the setting they are in. Even if there's an in-story explanation to show why they are so big and human-like the question is why do they need to do that. Of course the most likely reason in the real world is that their designs are big and over-the-top because the whole movie is big and over-the-top which does make sense in the context of the movie but it doesn't make it any more visually pleasing or make that approach the "right" one.

Awesome! Thanks for the articles! Even more stoked now! Cant wait
The fact that they specifically patterned the CGI faces on the actors playing them (instead of, y'know, just looking like the Ninja Turtles) is especially facepalm-worthy now that they've recast two of the voices. I mean, it's cool that they can do that, but was it really the best idea from a design perspective? I don't get the reasoning. Smaug didn't need to look like Benedict Cumberbatch, and Rocket didn't need to have a weird Bradley Cooper-raccoon hybrid face. And both of those designs look all the better for it, because they look like the characters are supposed to without trying to find some weird, unsettling combination of the character and actor for concepts that were never supposed to be "human".
Honestly, I find it more impressive when special-effects artists take an actor's mo-cap data and really bring their performance across with a distinctly inhuman face. Just slapping a version of the actor's face on the character seems like a lot less effort compared to that, and it looks a lot less interesting to me as a result. For example, check out the video of Cumberbatch playing Smaug along with the CGI character here (http://screenrant.com/hobbit-desolation-benedict-cumberbatch-smaug-motion-capture/).

I enjoyed the 2007 movie. It had its flaws, but the Turtles were definitely the Turtles in appearance and personality. And I have a feeling I'm gonna get more nostalgic for that movie as time goes on. :tlol:

The turtles having an attraction to April or riffing on someone being a babe or whatever is a lot different than literally stating they have an erection. Jesus, c'mon.
"You're cute!"
"You've made me hard!"
Which one is better suited to be in a film that has some level of aim towards young audience?
the first, obviously. but the second one is nowhere near what the joke in the actual movie is, so i don't see the connection.
They've never had to sink that low to get a laugh.
context makes it seem a fair remark. a lot of the complaints are about how this type of humor turns people off or how they think that type of joke isn't worth making. (maybe it isn't, but it's not as bad of some the honestly awful jokes in parts 2 or 3.) even your response ends with the point that essentially says the turtles are too good for this type of humor.
If it's not actually really aimed at kids after all, well, so be it then but they should make it clear.
i dunno...
goonies
monster squad
who framed roger rabbit
even disney fare like the mighty ducks.
these all had way worse jokes and situations.
Look... I can agree and have for a while that the most vocal sorts of critics can be annoying. Those who are determined that the world is falling down because of this.
But I will also be completely, and possibly slightly brutally, honest - and I mean no offense to anyone because most of you seem like pretty cool people in your own right no matter your opinions on this whole deal - but speaking in these sorts of tones, which I have often seen...
...sounds a bit egotistical if it's not coming from the film makers themselves.

I haven't read the descriptions about the two scenes, but I'm pretty disappointed and worried that they said it will be faithful to the cartoon. If it's just based on the cartoon then I don't how good the story will be. Also, they said the CGI was not as realistic and compelling as Cesar from Apes. It looks pretty real to me. I think that they just meant no matter how realistically rendered they are, four talking mutant turtles are always going to look jarring in a real world setting because it is unlike anything we've ever seen. The apes came across as more real because they already exist in the real world so it's easier for our mind and eye to accept.
Well, there’s no question that you’re looking at computer-generated creations, but part of that’s due to the fact that these are fantastical creatures – fantastical characters that look believable within the context of this world.
Also, they're going for a more cartoonish performance and not the subtle realism of the apes. And I'd also like to add, is they also mentioned the CGI isn't completely finished yet.

I think what they mean is Apes are obviously more plausible them mutant turtle SO you dont really have to switch your brain to think the apes are real they just are. you know what i mean, where as the turtles you kind have to go ok this "could" happen so then you flow into it as kids it wont be as much an issue but as an adult it might has a slight adjustment

It kinda makes me wonder if they've been eavesdropping on these forums to get a general idea of what the fans want. They've chucked out the original script, done re-shoots and even added that "aliens" line to prove they've been listening. It's nice to know that in this age of closer communication, film makers can get more active feedback from the fans.
Anywaaay, I'm not going to let myself be bothered by the bullet-proof shells thing. The reviewers have made it abundantly clear that they're steering towards the kind of over-the-top humor that that 1980s cartoon had. This was pretty evident already from the footage we've seen.

Anywaaay, I'm not going to let myself be bothered by the bullet-proof shells thing. The reviewers have made it abundantly clear that they're steering towards the kind of over-the-top humor that that 1980s cartoon had. This was pretty evident already from the footage we've seen.

Didn't see this thread earlier, so I'll reiterate what I said in another thread: For some reason, everything that gets revealed about this movie is entirely in line with my own expectations, for better and worse. And sometimes, I really hate that "Being Right About Everything" is my mutant super-power. Because I'm just not into this.
RANT
Making their shells bullet-proof - *combined* with making them 7 feet tall with Arnold's build - almost completely removes any physical tension from the movie. Seriously, who or what could stop them now that even GUNS aren't a problem for them? I don't care what script contrivances they use to try and explain it away, that's all BS, and it was A CHOICE made by the studio to amp up the "Kaboom" factor, an excuse to have tons of gunplay in a movie that's ostensibly, about warring factions of martial artists (and don't try to sell me on how much martial arts there will or won't be in the film. I'm sure they will have some nice-looking token stuff thrown in. But what do you REALLY think we're going to see more of, spinning kicks or gunshots and explosions?). And it directly leads to a theory several people have had, that the entire reason Shredder's been merged with Megatron is because the only way he could be a threat to these newer, "Hulked-Out" Turtles is to be a gigantic, blade-shooting, overly-armored cyborg. Just too much.
As others have said, it makes perfectly zero sense that Donnie's got all this hand-built, high-tech gear, but they all dress in stuff they pulled out of the garbage. Forget his inane, f*cking stupid glasses, that make me want to smack them off his friggin' face every time I see him... if he's so "Handy", and can just whip up all this Star Trek stuff, why not just go balls-out and dress them all in mech suits? I mean, really. Sequel? Probably. I *do* get what kind of juxtaposition they're going for, but it just doesn't work because absolutely zero thought was put into it.
As for Mikey's "joke" about April, for me it's less the exact wording of the joke, and more along the lines of, "Yep, that's exactly the kind of 'humor' I expected from this movie." Which is to say, lowest common denominator. I'm an odd cat, I admit, in that I really don't like "funny" movies because the situations and "jokes" are so contrived. And the harder they push, the more I retract. At best, all the stuff in the movie sounds, so far, super-corny and unfunny to me. Now we have at least a hint that some of it will be flat-out low-brow. Everything about it, from the designs to the "jokes" screams to me, "This movie is for 12-year-old boys", and that's the target.
I still feel we deserve better. I don't, and never, ever will, accept the notion that "TMNT is inherently stupid, just embrace the stupidity". You can be funny without being dumb, and fantastical without fully throwing things like logic and physics and common sense out the window in the name of, "It's just a movie". So, SO much about this project is just so full of everything that's *bad* about movies these days, and it honestly just hurts to see that the Powers-That-Be feel that this is the BEST they can do as far as making a TMNT movie. "Transformers Meets Avengers With A Veneer of 80s Cartoon TMNT On Top." TMNT has so much going for it that's so *different* and *unique* than other franchises, and the best they can do is make the same f*cking movie they always make? And to top it off, nothing about the franchise as we know it is "good enough" to fit their little "Blockbuster" template, so whatever doesn't Fit, they Change. Turtles aren't "Bad-Ass" enough? Bam, they're 8 feet tall and bullet-proof. Foot Ninja aren't a threat? Give 'em all some guns. Shredder himself can't even pose a credible threat to these guys? Well, now he's a giant cyborg with boomerang knives that magically fly around the room and retract into his armor, "Because it looks sooo cooooool!"
I'm glad that so far it looks like the Turtles themselves are mostly in-character. That's literally the only thing that I've liked so far. The more I see, the more I'm saddened by the fact that the only way TMNT can get a shake in Hollywood is to be squeezed into a movie that's so damn generic and paint-by-numbers. :ohwell:
It's whatever. I know for a fact I'll see it and own it eventually. But I've seen enough to know I've seen too much. I disagree with almost every single decision they've made since the start, and it would have to be almost an entirely different movie than what we've seen so far for me to regain any enthusiasm from it. I feel like it was conceived in sin from the worst possible direction, handled by some of the worst possible people, with questionable choices being made for the most shallow and pointless of reasons. There's no way that adds up to anything objectively good.
I'm just sad. I mean, it'll pass; it's not like "Batman & Robin" ruined my life or anything. This won't either.

Leo656, as far as I'm concerned... nobody can ever complain about Bay being ragged on for explosions ever again. I know the man's proud of being "Nuttin' But Commercial Filmmaking" Guy, but yeesh, he practically parodizes himself at this stage.

Yep. He's the Vince McMahon of cinema. Knows exactly who his audience is, knows exactly how to piss off the other side, and does everything he can to unabashedly screw with those people who don't like what he does, because there are more people on the other side willing to pay money for his own unique flavor of "entertainment".
Just look at any article about Transformers 4 and skim the comments. It's 100% people who know - and LOVE - how awful those movies are. And you know what they say, you can tell a lot about society through any period of history simply by looking at how they entertain themselves.
Currently, it seems we're in firmly in our "Explosions and Dick Jokes" phase.
Psst... anybody else notice how you never hear anyone say "Bay had nothing to do with it, he's just the producer" anymore, since all the trailers have proven that it is, indeed, every bit a Michael Bay film? He didn't even have to be on set for that to happen, his fingerprints are all over it in every frame. No shock there.

And Schwing with a forward thrust of the hips means "Boner" It has been done before. The older teens and adults in the 90's new exactly what that meant. It has been done before. Lets move on.

Not sure why you quoted me, as I explained turtle anatomy to someone to formulate why that joke is a boner joke, I've not commented anything on the joke itself, by all mans within the right context I'm sure a low-brow boner joke can be funny. Heck I've mused several instances where a "shell tighten" can be presented as a funny joke, although given Mikey is wearing pants, the phrase seems a bit redundant as I believe the normal phrase is "pants getting tighter", but that's writing vs. creature design.

No it's not that. It's just that we're tired of arguing with brick walls that only see what they want to see. Btw, I've seen that exact comment at least 5 times on each and every Turtles related post on IGN, Collider, YouTube, Twitter etc. and it's followed by the exact stupid rebuttal: 'But his got his fingerprints in it!' Cause you can clearly tell by that one explosion in the trailer and Megan Fox. So from now on, any movie with explosions and Megan Fox should be considered a Bay Flick. Great logic.

Either you kids are incredibly f*cking naive OR you have ZERO idea at all how movies are made. Bay's the producer, it's HIS money that gets the movie made in the first place, and every single thing we've seen, from the tone to the "humor" to the overall visual style is 100% consistent with the kind of movies Michael Bay makes. Good or bad isn't the point. The point is, we've clearly seen that the movie IS consistent with his "vision" whether people like it or not.
Again, super-naive OR super-ignorant of how things work in the movie biz, frankly it's tiresome either way. You obviously like the style; why get so defensive about what's obvious? It's Bay's movie and Liebsman was a "point-and-shoot" Hack For Hire. Again, you like it, so why is stating a f*cking Fact a problem? Do you not want it to be true or something?
I'll speak plain, for the millionth time. Unless a director is a Name, they're not the one steering the movie. Producers front the money and make all the decisions as far as how the movie is executed. ONLY when a director has a proven track record, like James Cameron or Chris Nolan, do they have enough pull to actually "direct" the movie they're making without the producers telling them what to do every step of the way. In a case where a guy like Bay is the Producer, and a guy like Liebsman, who has done absolutely nothing in Hollywood is the Director, it's NOT the director's movie, it's the producer's! It's the Producer's money that gets the movie made, so they make all the Big Decisions! That is the goddamn process.
What exactly is so hard to understand? This willful ignorance is both annoying and baffling. Especially when the movie's trailers go out of their way to show you that Yes, This Is VERY MUCH In The Style Of How Michael Bay Makes Films. If you like it, then what's the problem? Facts are facts, screaming otherwise won't change a damn thing.

It's the WAY things are put together, man. I'm not going to sit here and try and explain "Visual Signatures" to people. Suffice it to say, when you watch enough movies - and I mean watch, as in enjoy, absorb and study them, not just "shut your brain off and have a few yuks", you start to notice how certain filmmakers have specific visual traits they rely on, little things they *always* do that is just as good as signing their name over it in bright bold letters. It's not *just* the explosions, the dick jokes or the "Screw Physics, It's A Movie" over-the-top-ness of it all... it's the way it's all put together as a whole that makes it a very, Very Michael Bay film.
It's like with music, how I can pick out an Offspring song by hearing the first three seconds of guitar and nothing else; their style is very, very specific to them. Bay's visual style, the specific nuances of that style, are very easy to tell. And again, that's terrific if you're into that. I frankly got sick of it about 25 minutes into Transformers 2 (and that's after genuinely enjoying the first one). By and large, I do not like those kinds of movies anymore. Maybe I did when I was younger, and I can still watch them now and enjoy them with a good mix of whimsy and irony, but they don't speak to me anymore. For lack of a better term, I've outgrown them. I don't think we need more of them.
Other people can enjoy that style of movies or not. I've personally seen enough of them. I'm simply disappointed, and I'm completely entitled to that feeling of disappointment.
I was saying that in response to MrTMNT2012 saying that every movie that has explosions and Megan Fox will have Bay's finger prints all over it...even if it ISN'T a Bay directed or produced movie. Some people around here need to learn how to take context and readI can read jackass, your post just wasn't very clear. Regardless, it's not like people are calling this a Bay film willy-nilly, he's been the spokesman for this movie, it's his production company working on the film, he's the producer of the film, people working on the film call it a Bay film, his name is front and central in the trailers. There are more reasons than explosions and Megan Fox, why people are calling this a Bay film.

I've already stated across numerous threads, that it's a combination of the elements themselves as well as the way they're utilized. I often don't quote people and more often speak to "The Room". Regardless, you were answered. Maybe people don't address you directly because of your tone.
And to that point, lose the f*cking snark, for God's sake. There are a hundred reasons this movie isn't to some people's taste. The one and only thing apologists have to cling to is, "It's TMNT". Take that veneer away, and it's very clearly another probably-sh*tty action "comedy" no different from the rest. Anyone who's even pretending to be objective can list hundreds of things "wrong" with the movie, based only on what we've already seen of it, and a small number of things they did "right", so people "not having any plausible rebuttals" is ridiculous.
Nothing personal, man, it's more like, there's a million people saying stuff like that, and it's tiresome. Like your movie. Don't imply that other people have some kind of mental problem if they don't like it.

Take that veneer away, and it's very clearly another sh*tty action "comedy" no different from the rest. Which part needs to be extrapolated upon? The guns, the explosions, bad character designs, awful cast, horrible attempts at humor? Or is it ALL of that, put together in that certain way that just screams "This is a Bay film"? It's entirely his visual style!
Serious question: Does Liebsman even have a "style" to identify? Because I know Bay does. Raimi does. Burton does. Nolan does. Snyder does. Even Kevin f*cking Smith has a Visual Style. They all have things they rely on that a person can read as clear as a signature. If you can't see that, maybe you need to start "really" watching movies.
I used an Offspring reference earlier; I'll go back to that. Lots of guitarists use Eastern and Indian "riffs" and such in their music. Kevin "Noodles" Wasserman has a way of doing it that is identifiable almost immediately, as soon as it hits your ear you *know* who's sound that is, once you've heard it enough. I've seen enough of Bay's movies to know, good or bad, what his signature looks like.
This stuff really isn't very complicated at all. Maybe people should stop projecting. "It's a Bay-style film" doesn't have to be criticism; his movies do great business! They make good money! *I* don't like them, so I'm stating it as a criticism. But to say it's NOT his style of movie? Seriously? Come ON. Good or bad, it's exactly his style of movie. 100%.
Like it or not, but man, just accept what's plain to see. I can handle different tastes, I can't abide willful ignorance.

Well, Bay is known for fast edits, bombastic visuals and bravado. Like a skaldekvad or a bard's tale, big on the action, focuses less on the "boring" stuff.
For the type of movie we're getting, it'd probably have been for the better that Bay himself was directing instead of Liebsman.

Other than the reasons I mentioned, please enlighten me as to how that is!OMG, this film is produced by Bay and Platinum Dunes his production company. In fact this film is being advertised as a Michael Bay film. So Michael Bay worked on the film and Paramount wants people to think of it as a Michael Bay film. Leo's right. It does have a Bay feel to it. And I'm sure Bay producing did have a lot to do with bringing Megan Fox in to play April. But what this movie seems to be doing right that most Bay movies can't is they seem to have nailed the characters/made them likable. In fact, that's the only thing Bay movies are missing are strong, likable characters.
But we'll see more when the movie comes out.

And yet you're saying that the people who are still excited for the movie only have 'It's TMNT' to cling to. Which is clearly full of sh*t.
Not at all. If you generally, genuinely don't like that type of movie otherwise, that's really the only upside to it. Take away the Turtles characters, and it's pretty generic. Every time I watch a trailer, I see everything I don't care for in these kinds of movies, done even more to excess, with TMNT pasted into it. I mean, I get that some people are okay with settling for that kind of movie, but I genuinely don't understand it. The only reason I'm even the tiniest bit interested is because I like the characters themselves across all media. Otherwise, it's not my kind of movie, and in fact, a lot of us here have ripped similar movies to shreds in the past. I don't see how anyone could look at this and not think it looks just like all the other "blockbusters".
Which people can like or dislike all day long. I know for a fact that you like 'em, and it's pretty clear by now that I don't. Hey, that's fine with me. We like enough of the same things in common as it is, as hard as that is to explain...
But I'm no better and you're no worse for wanting different things from a movie. I just have strong feelings that a good number of people here would be tearing this thing apart if it was about anything else besides TMNT.
Ugghh, I am getting so sick of bickering and the hypocrisy going on around here.
Well, the main problem seems to be simply, very few people are either learned enough or mature enough to know what's a debate and what's an argument. A debate is, "I disagree with you, and here's why," and those are fun and can go allll day long without anyone getting hurt. An argument is, "I disagree with you, and you're a stupid-head because you don't see it my way. Also, your information contradicts what's in my head. I don't care what evidence says, Kevin Bacon was definitely NOT in 'Footloose'." And so on and so forth.
...Except he was, and the TMNT movie is a Michael Bay movie. That's not good or bad, but it is, simply, what it is. That's all I was ever trying to say, and There's Your Moment Of Zen.
So I could just find a random stuntman that 'worked' on the movie and just call it his movie? The reason they advertise Michael Bay is because he's the bigger name associated with this movie but that doesn't mean he had a big part in creating the film.So what you want me to think of Liebesman and Platinum Dunes as the creative forces behind this movie? Not sure why you quoted me, as I explained turtle anatomy to someone to formulate why that joke is a boner joke, I've not commented anything on the joke itself, by all mans within the right context I'm sure a low-brow boner joke can be funny. Heck I've mused several instances where a "shell tighten" can be presented as a funny joke, although given Mikey is wearing pants, the phrase seems a bit redundant as I believe the normal phrase is "pants getting tighter", but that's writing vs. creature design.
Sorry, I was Kinda using your quote as device to tell people to move on with the boner joke. Should have put that, "general audience" quotations ha, and the joke might hit or not, but I say we move on. And Leo656 is right. If you cant pick up Bay's style in some parts of this movie, you might just be kidding yourself. I don't mind it, but you do see it. Some other parts you don't. Yep. I hate CGI-fests because everything moves super-fast and everyone seems to be filled with helium. It's a trick they use to distract your eye and brain from fully comprehending that what you're seeing on the screen isn't really there. If you can actually stare at anything for more than a few seconds, the cracks show, so they keep everything moving so that you can't.
As it is, I have a brain that doesn't like to "just shut itself off" and an overly-analytical eye to begin with, so CGI-fests more annoy me than entertain me, most of the time. Whenever people are like, "That looks amazing! Yay CGI!" I'm just like, "Really? That looks fake as hell, but whatever." It's not that the CGI they're using in this movie is poor, it's that even in the best of spots, the Turtles look very blatantly like video game characters.
I know movies will never, ever go back to using costumes and puppets and building sets, but man, how I wish they would. Obvious exceptions, of course, being "Speed Racer" and "Green Lantern", where excessive and cartoonish CGI was the entire point.

And it's cool, but there doesn't seem to be much weight to Shredder's strike. He simply stops at the point of Raph's sais without any inertia involved. And judging from how hard Shredder is striking with his blades there, I would think there'd be some give and take, but my guess is they just wanted it to come as close to Leo as possible and weren't thinking about realism or the physics involved.
An example of CGI that has weight to it would probably be Godzilla. That's one of the few exceptions I can think of. But, once perfected, I think CGI can and will look better than robotic puppetry.

Yyyyep. There is absolutely NO WAY for that shot to work. It's just there to "look badass". Looks awful to me, frankly, as it would to anyone with even the most basic understanding of momentum, inertia, or physics. Shredder's approach by itself combined with the weight of his 87 arm-blades versus Raphael just poking his little salad fork outwards would equal a disaster for Leonardo in that shot.
"But it's just a mooooviiiiie!" Yeah, yeah, I hear those people. They're still wrong and it's still eye-jarring. If they had to do that shot, simply have Shredder swiping downwards and Raphael blocking it. Adding a Triple Lindy before the strike just ruins it, because Raph couldn't possibly stop that much momentum that easily.
Oh, wait, he can, because they have super-powers now. UGH, this f*cking movie.

Also, one of my big pet peeves has always been jumping in CGI or even in live action using a harness and pulley system. Instead of the actor or CGI character really preparing for the jump and bending at the knees, usually they just simply float up into the air with very little effort and it just looks so fake. Usually it's the same with landing too, you just don't feel the impact on their body it would have when they land from such a high jump. There's no weight to it. Even some of the shots in Dawn of the Apes felt like there was very little gravity.

Very true, very true. You know what I found interesting, is that even in "Man of Steel", where they could have totally gotten away with that kind of thing (I mean, the guy flies, after all, not the same amount of concern with realism), they made it a point to show how much effort it took to propel himself into the air with force. I appreciated that.
It's those little things that can make the difference between good and bad use of CGI. For whatever else was right or wrong with that movie, it at least looked fantastic, and they didn't decide to go all balls-out ridiculous even though they had every reason to. I mean, the amount of destruction was over-the-top, but it was entirely consistent with the reality of super-humans with that much power going at it no holds barred. Snyder even resisted the urge to do his usual "Slo-Mo Matrix Effects", even though he had every reason to. Talk about restraint.

Man of Steel did seem to put a lot of thought into physics, like you said, even though they could have gotten away with the "superpowered beings" excuse and not gave a crap about realism. It's the little details, like when Clark is gearing up to fly for the first time and you see the ground trembling beneath him.
And then there's the fights... They sort of took the whole concept of super strength/speed and did something original with it, especially when the Kryptonians were fighting the humans. Even though they basically made a ragdoll out of each and every human being, it still felt real. And I think the fact that Snyder never slows down to make it easier to view the action only adds to the authenticity. As if you're an actual bystander witnessing these basically gods go at it. There were also a lot of practical shots in the movie that you wouldn't think were practical.
But if you want to get really technical, I always wondered why, when the Kryptonian's hit each other, it has basically the same impact as when they hit a human being. Wouldn't their strengths basically be even and look like a normal fight but more sped up?

I admit, the buzz during the build-up had me ready to dislike the movie, and the first time was underwhelming, but it does get better for me each time. Whereas other movies were all "WOW" in the theaters, but fall apart more every single time. Gotta wonder which one this TMNT movie will be.

Yea, I mean, there are some pacing issues and what not with the narrative, but I feel they did a good job updating the source material for a new generation. The movie had a lot going against it, too. First of all, just being another Superman movie and then also having to follow up Chris Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy which it was already being compared to. And the solid trailers only made expectations even more ridiculous.
There were times I wished that Superman had been a little more careful and tried harder to save people, making the battle more desperate and Zod seem even more dangerous, not just because it is what I want to see in a Superman movie but because I think it would have greatly enhanced the narrative. I didn't mind Superman killing Zod either. It made the movie even better and made me respect the character more, I just think there would have been more weight to that scene had Superman been shown saving more people and not so much a part of the collateral damage.
Also, the back and forth structure kind of hurt it a little bit for me. I was going in hoping for a Batman Begins straight forward style where everything builds up to him being in the suit and slowly discovering his powers. But we see him using his powers almost immediately. Then the moment the suit is first revealed ends up feeling very underwhelming.
These things don't necessarily keep me from enjoying the movie but they would have made for a better experience if taken into more consideration.
The turtles has a lot going against it, but my expectations are tempered because of that. At the most I am expecting a fun action/comedy.

I like the cut o'yer gib, fella.
I know for a fact I'll see it and own it eventually. Why would you want to own it if you don't think you will like it?

For the same reason I own the Next Mutation DVDs, and the (almost) complete run of Super-Friends. I'm a fan of the property in general even though I prefer some versions more than others and think some of them are flat-out awful. I can find at least some value even in the worst of them, while being super-glad they're not the most well-known version. It's nice to have different "tones" to suit my mood, even if some, like Next Mutation, I'll only ever watch to drunkenly make fun of.
I'm sure I'll be able to appreciate the movie to some degree for what it is, but I'm super-unhappy about perpetuating the myth that, at least as far as movies go, TMNT are strictly "Kids Stuff". They don't have to be, any more than Batman or Superman or Spider-Man. But that's life, I guess.

Some people can't help but to collect all things of a particular franchise...even the most ridiculous things

Why would you want to own it if you don't think you will like it?To support the franchise. I call Leo a true Turtles fan for that.
So if you see the movie in the theaters you're a "real fan". If you buy the DVD you're a "true fan". So which level of fandom is higher?

You're only an Ultimate Fan if you can buy out the theater and hand out DVDs on a tv show. ;)
Guess most of us have to stick to normal fan no matter what we choose to partake of.

The level of devotion for the franchise is measured by amount of crap with TMNT logo imprinted on it you own. Yeah, sure.
I have already said in another topic about "True Fan" thing.

I agree. How much stuff you own doesn't determine if you are a true fan or a bigger fan than the next guy

Yay.. because I'm only starting to buy a few things again ever since childhood, have a limited budget and really only get the things I truly want and will enjoy. :)

I have already said in another topic about "True Fan" thing. That's not what I truly meant either. The fact that someone is willing to support a franchise with so much devotion, shows, imo, that person is a true fan in his/her own way. If one wants to buy or own as much merch as possible, that's a devoted fan. If a person is determined to try to own all of the DVD collections, I call that person a true fan...or maybe I should've used "devoted". That seems to describe what I was trying to convey better.Yeah same here...very small budget. But the things I do get I love!I'd still call you a true fan though. The main thing that some overlooked was that I used the word "willing"...but like I said, devoted is probably a better choice of word than true fan. A devoted fan.
But how devoted is he really? He's pretty much said he would skip the movie in theaters, but own it on DVD later. Now unless you see the movie in theaters opeing night you are "not a real fan".

I honestly do think arguing the merits and levels of super-fandom is a bit silly. Some people obviously care a lot more than others do about Ninja Turtles but on average I think most people who take the time to post here are already fans on more than just a casual level, or maybe they're still on that level but trying to get deeper into it. I consider most everyone here is already a much bigger fan than most people.
To be fair, I don't even attempt to collect "everything" because I haven't nearly the budget for that, but at a minimum I make it a point to own all the DVDs, of TMNT and everything I like, really. I can't own every toy or action figure, but I can at least own the entire available collection of movies, cartoons, and TV shows. It's my little way of claiming "ownership" of the stuff I love. Last count, my TMNT DVD collection was at 50, but I still have to pick up the newest Nick one. I blew over 80 bucks on Ninja Tribunal. Knowing me, I'd most likely do it again.
Outside that, I do collect just a little of everything (I have about 90% of the comics ever released); I do love the franchise, I'm just critical about stuff I don't like or don't think works. I can still appreciate it for what it is, I just have my preferences. I still do occasionally take time out to watch the stuff I don't like, for laughs; I figure someone went to the trouble to make it, I can at least stop and appreciate the effort now and then.
I'unno, I don't equate my enjoyment of the property with the amount of Stuff I do or don't have, but I have spent a significant amount of time and money on enjoying TMNT, so, if I'm not a "True Fan" I'm probably just a f*cking moron. I don't think my wife and I saving $50 on a movie I probably won't like half as much sober as I will when I'm sh*t-faced hurts my "True Fan" cred.
I skipped "Batman & Robin" in theaters, and I have dug graves for people who questioned my Batman credentials. Just so we're clear.

For another person, it could writing fanfiction or doing fanart. For another, it could be a toy collector, etc. They're all true fans, just in their own way.

I never said that a person must have or own everything of a franchise or read everything or see everything to be a "true fan". I meant to say that you're a devoted one, but based on what interests you of said franchise. "True fan" wasn't the correct term, but maybe a devoted fan. You like the series and you are willing to collect things of that franchise that truly interest you. In other words, you're a devoted fan in your own way. You like to try to collect the DVDs.
