View Full Version : If Venus show up in this movie or the sequel, how you will react?

Joke aside, I really don't know! Venus did had potential but TMNT the next mutation was badly done. For one they shouldn't have never make Venus the protagonist or make her the mary sue of the TMNT. To returned to my question; if done right I wont mind see her again.

it will never happen...
I would watch 5 threads on the drome go to 50 pages in just a few hours. I actually think the movie universe might go crazy with mutations and if they do I can see them doing Venus even if not as a main character. Didn't the transformers movie put a bunch of transformers for the sake of it?
Without Laird the stupid restriction of no Venus is gone, what affects people the most is that she was one of the turtles from the origin and later becomes part of the turtles, get rid of that and just have her origin not include that part and boom, she's just another mutant.

I can only assume she'd show up for the typical relationship reasons for adding such characters... so, just no.
Really it's a shame for her because she might have been a cool character if she was done right and involved all along and not a tool, but... no thanks.

I'm trying to think of a legitimate reason to dislike Venus, and I'm coming up empty.
If people have a problem with her being female, that's ridiculous. Her origin? Doesn't really affect anyone or thing. It's actually good for building off of and allows her to have a general sense of different views and beliefs. Another mutant turtle isn't a problem, because Slash. And her personality is the kind of thing easily changed and improved by a competent writer.
Really, seems to me all the backlash is either from her simply being female or such a character getting a poor initial representation and introduction from a questionable series.
So all in all, eh, sure, I'm OK with her. If anything, now that the idea has been put out there, I'd like to see her introduced into the IDW series. I don't doubt for a moment that the creative team of the IDW comic would do a fantastic job of mixing her into things.

Yeah, was gonna say, it'd be absolutely perfect for the movie universe. "Just throw it all in there without rhyme or reason!" I can't think of too many places that'd be a "better" fit for Venus.
If Donnie's Ghostbuster costume and Mikey's ability to punch through steel doesn't turn you off, then you probably shouldn't have a problem with Venus, either. What's one more badly-executed idea on the pile?

I don't have problem with Venus as an idea for a character. Why? See my signature.
However, I don't want her in Bay's movie for one simple reason: whatever they do to her it most likely will turn rather horrible. Especially her design.
On the other hand they at least will have excuse to use TURTLELIPS. :D

It really depends on how they portray her. The NT version had a lot of potential but was lost in the campy, dumb sound effects.
I think Venus could be a great character if given to the right person, is this the particular place I would want to see her? No, I think the Nick version would do her better justice.
In fact, I'm praying they bring her into that show...I wanna see some one take this unlikable character and make her awesome. Just like with Raiden in the MGS series.

I've always felt that you've got to be a pretty open minded person to accept the Turtles in general. I mean, it's already pretty damn ridiculous to begin with.
4 baby boy turtles fall into the sewers of New York and are turned into humanoid mutants by a strange chemical who grow into teenagers that have been taught ninjutsu by a rat that has also been mutated into a giant rat, by the same chemical, that learned ninjutsu simply by mimicking it's human owner when it was just a "normal" rat living in Japan. I forget to mention they all know and speak English with no prior education?
Yet, it works and we all accept them. But, a 5th turtle that's a girl and uses magic? "Pfft, that's just dumb..." riiight. Never mind how goofy the '87 cartoon gets.
I'm not exactly being all serious here, but really, just seems like Turtles fans would have a pretty large suspension of disbelief. I sometimes get the feeling a large part of all the Venus hate comes from it being the thing to do. "Everyone else is saying she's stupid, I better too."
Now, I have already said Venus was poorly executed in Next Mutation. But the idea, the idea of Venus ain't bad.
And that's really what is being asked here. There is the potential for Venus to be used in other TMNT series and be done well.
Having said all that, I've got no dog in this fight and I too would like to see the aforementioned meltdown if she was brought into other TMNT series.

Pfft, at least if they did that, they could CG some actual emotion onto VenusFox's face.
Myself, I understand that changing the guys' backstory and having Venus come in and defeat the Shredder once and for always annoyed the fans... but I don't think Venus deserves nearly the level of hate that she gets. I kind of feel sorry for the poor kid; nobody loves her! She's probably one of the most-loathed characters ever.

Can't speak for all, but this ain't me. I think the entire idea of a 5th turtle mutated with the main 4 is dumb. I mean, I grew up with just the 4. Well it's not like Eastman and Laird were taking things seriously with the names. If it wasn't for those portraits of the renaissance masters in their "studio" who knows what they'd have been named. Plus, Splinter is a parody of Stick from DareDevil. Which really, the names are just one more detail that makes the Turtles a silly premise.
I really don't see the big deal about a 5th turtle. 5 is a good number, unless it's turtles? Seems like it's more of a nostalgia issue for some. Which is odd being that any series that adds or changes anything about the turtles doesn't add or change the series/interpretations that came before.
And you know what, I think she's goofy enough to fit in just fine.
Leo656
07-21-2014, 11:31 PM
I kind of agree with what Laird always said, that a big reason he was against it was, there was never any BETTER reason than, "You know how there were four turtles? Well, guess what... there's FIVE!" I mean, you can do it, but... why? I think there needs to be more reasoning than, "Why not?", but that's me.

Yeah, being a fearsome foursome is kind of part of their identity... A new comrade (like April, Nick Karai if she's saveable, etc) is one thing, but it's kind of weird to have another character show up and try to actually insert themselves within that dynamic among the four of them, it's just awkward.
While we're at it let's back Carter and Hokum Hare and Irma's piano playing boyfriend.Yeah, I don't really get why people hate Carter. I actually wouldn't mine him be reimagined.

07-22-2014, 12:43 AM
Who said that just because Venus is a Turtle she has to be part of their dynamic?
And that reasoning of no better reason than why not? Why do a kids cartoon? Why not? Why do a live action movie? Why not? I mean, money, duh. How about why have all these other mutants?
Slash makes sense. In the Turtle's world they've proven to be capable, so wouldn't it stand to reason to make your own mutant turtle to fight them if they're your enemy? Fire with fire. And Slash ends up being an example of the greed for power and a weapon that blows back against his creators.. But what if instead of giving up after your first attempt you try again, but go about it in a slightly different way? Boom, there's a similar but fair way and reason to bring Venus in the mix. Heck, that's more or less Alopex. And that has worked. Alopex just isn't a turtle (obviously because she's a nod to Ninjara from the Archie series).
Or go with the idea that she was raised in Chinatown. And you could do a dark Leo sort of thing with her. Then there's the culture clash bit that can be played up if done right. She could be a better bare hands fighter than our favorite boys in green come a 1 on 1 fight. Magic doesn't have to be a part of her character.
The cartoon changed things from the comic and people are mostly fine with it. Everything from April being a reporter in a yellow jumpsuit to Bebop & Rocksteady to Baxter Stockman being white to Shredder & Krang being incompetent partners in evil/crime. The only people not OK with the changes? Diehard Mirage people. Every time there's a new interpretation, there's changes. And so far it's always come down to if things were done well. Next Mutation wasn't done so great so Venus mostly suffers from that.
Hell, I've been guilty of letting nostalgia sway my opinion. Not been too enthused about the new movie, but I'm starting to try look past the changes and decisions made for the movie. Not quite to the point I'll pay to see it, but the newer trailers are helping.
It's been 30 years and the Turtles themselves have mostly stayed unchanged in all that time. 4 turtle "brothers" raised by a rat "father" that fight evil ninja. In that way they are exactly like superheroes that haven't changed all that much. There's reason enough if no other to add another Turtle. Which almost happened with Kirby.
It's funny really. Thanks to all the hate and supposed "one who shall not be mentioned" status of Venus she's more known than Kirby. You mention Venus as a 5th turtle and someone usually makes mention of Kirby being the 1st 5th turtle... that never made it to print.
You know what, how about they bring both Kirby and Venus into things. And just to keep her from being a possible love interest, you have her and Kirby already a couple. That also keeps both of them from becoming a part of that 4 turtle dynamic. Instead they become allies that come in to help when needed. Which considering how out numbered they usually are, could be a lot.
Hmm... I seem to have gone on a bit long here, rambling almost. Basically there's a ton of ways to bring Venus in and make her work and be a great character. I feel like I could sit up all night coming up with scenarios for her. More ways and reasons for her than against.
But hey, feed the hate machine. It's something interesting to discuss.

Great ideas Jamie. :) I don't think nearly as many people would hate on a Venus reincarnation as long as they were assured that she wasn't there to be a love interest, and that she didn't have magic powers.

It's not so much that she's a 5th turtle. Heck, Kevin and Peter wanted a 5th turtle named Kirby. It's the fact that she was kind of thrown in with a crappy back story and she was a crappy character.

I think having only four Turtles is sacred, imo it fits nicely with the words TMNT, there shouldn't be a fifth, and if they do make a another Turtle get invloved, it should only be Slash pre-mutation, and i would treat it like the nick show where Slash is Raph's pet, and he would only mutate in the 3rd movie, and he would be a villain, so no fifth Turtle, i don't really want to see that many mutants in this series, maybe a more serious version of Bebop and Rocksteady, Slash as mentioned above, Leatherhead and maybe Tigerclaw, but that's it.

To the point where she shouldn't be even given any kind of second chance?

I truly don't care how good they execute it, a fifth Turtle is stupid that's the only reason i hated Venus, there should only be FOUR turtles!!

Nah, not quite the same, Boston (not saying that anyone should give the 2014 movie a chance if they don't feel like it, but still not a good comparison) I think a lot of the resistance comes from that she was kind of a Mary Sue. She was introduced to be something to lust over for the turtles (sudden "we're not biological brothers" plot-twist) and she had a bland personality and hardly any flaws and quirks. She was very... hollow and felt like such a forced and unnecessary addition. I think many aren't necessarily against a female turtle, just against that female turtle.
Except for me among others, I really prefer the TMNT being the iconic foursome. Much due to the fact that I very easily see the introduction of a female turtle just as girlfriend-bait for the turtles and it could very easily take over a bit too much. I'm kinda on board with Laird: keep romance to an absolute minimum, the TMNT is about brotherhood and fun/action.

And that was due to the writing..the character is there why not give her a second chance...in every turtles property we see chacters return written vary differently from the past...aside from the 4 brothers some make complete 180s..how many aprils do we have..shredders?
and what is the difference if its another female turtle? its still a female turtle..why not use someone who is there and redeem her...Karai in the nick show wouldve been a perfect choice even if it was just a small thing till she was "Healed"
blaming a character to be doomed forever because of bad writing isnt fair to what someone with talent can do..ive seen and read fan art and fics that make venus an amazing character removing all those points people dont like
she doesnt have to be the core group..just make her some sort of ally

I wouldn't care and the fact that they have a whole trove full of characters they could bring to the film shouldn't bother you either.
They did it on the animated series/next mutation/nick series/comic books why would I expect any different from the movie series?

heres my idea:
venus comes out of no where and says to the turtles I'm Venus!!
Leonardo then pulls out his sword and Decapitates Venus immediately
Venus' head Drops to the ground like a brick..
Theres your return......
Im ashamed of some of the responses ive read on this thread..its like some of you WANT turtles to fail, this thread PROVES that some of u secretly want the turtles to be aliens, StarWars fans wouldn't put up with this sh*t but turtle fans will accept anything it seems, to me anyone who wants Venus in ANY form of existence is not a real turtle fan..
theres ENOUGH characters as it is so for someone to be up for this I find Disgusting, theres no more hard fans and protectors anymore youre all just gamers and ipod users and any form of anything you'd just gladly accept. I think a lot of you who'd want this probably would not make great parents..

What does Venus have to do with how many people who will stick around after the new movie premiers...? I know what you are actually saying tho, but it's the same debate we've already been through several times (hurr, durr, not a true turtle fan), don't start it again, please!

Are you implying i'm not a true fan? because i will admit, part of the reason i joined was because at the time there was so much negativity, surrounding this movie, and Sam was the only one positive, so i joined partly because i wanted to weigh the negativity, but that doesn't mean i'm not a true fan! i bet i know just as much if not more about the Turtles than you, i grew up watching the 2k3 TMNT cartoon, TMNT and Spider-Man were my favorites, i have lots of merchandise from the 2K3 show, i have lots of merchandise from the Nick show as well, i even have some of the older MIrage comics, i don't really care for the IDW though, so yeah i guarantee i'll be sticking around after this movie comes out, so yeah no need to play the 'You're not a true fan" card on me.

I feel like every Venus thread is doomed to spiral out of control into one of these mindless finger pointing threads about true fans and all that crap. They're all the same, and all doomed to suffer from passionate "I know more than you" posts by someone who apparently knows it all but is incapable of writing a post that isn't plagued by terrible grammar and even worse spelling.

There is no such thing as "True Fan". We all the same fans of the franchise.
"True Fan" is distinction invented by snobby wannabe elitists, who don't have any other way to claim their superiority over the others, by wagging amount of merchandise they had bought or claiming that "you must LUV everythig about franchise, if you want to be a cool person like them".
In short - its ******** thing, which I strongly advise not to use in the future.

never said the words "true fan"....people are putting it my mouth....but there is a greener word i am looking for...
i find it no coincidence that almost 90% of the people joined this board as recent as April 2014..call me a skeptic
but if we are playing the "How long youve been watching TMNT card" i have you beat by 1986 sonny... when did this become a measuring contest of how long our Bo's are?and i mean really are you calling out a dude named "The Boston Ninja Turtle"?
funny i get told iam not a true fan daily..someone even once Emailed me from this board and said because i didnt like the new movie i didnt deserve to wear the costumes..or in their own words "You don't deserve to wear the shell", yet i question a few posters longevity here and im labeled as telling people they arnt true fans

i actually just had a convo with my GF about Venus in her own words she "Wishes the Fandom was more accepting of her, especially with the new show having so many younger female fans, it would be nice to have someone they could look up to or play as besides April and Karai, when all the boys are playing TMNT" and that "Aside from her Turtle boobs, she is one of the better designs that comes out of Next Mutation"

So, is Kevin Eastman now the go to guy when it comes to the movies and Nick's property as a whole? I was just wondering, wasn't he the one that created Venus to begin with? Wonder if maybe he might sweet talk the producers to include her into the next movie, or maybe even in the Nick toon.

You guys sure take Your "Venus" Seriously. :tlol: But wouldn't and female mutant do? Must it be Venus? I mean Someone before talked about rewriting her and changing the stuff most fans don't like about her. Which would pretty much make her a blank slate.
I think Mona Lisa herself was going to be a turtle, but one of the creators hated the Idea... Thus she's a lizard. And while I wouldn't call her a really well loved mutant, I do think she is more popular than Venus.:tconfuse:

It is funny, how Mona Lisa, who was a one shot episode character I believe, was created more or less as a quick love interest for Raphael, and nearly everyone seems to love her. Venus though, gets the short end of the stick. I would say what turns me off about Venus is that she was mutated along with the boys, if I'm recalling the story correct, and I just don't think it jived for me to accept another Turtle during the same time the boys were growing. I liked the approach with Slash and Mona Lisa better.

Yeah, I agree... and even though common since would tell a person no, The 4 original turtles could not be blood siblings.... I still like to live in that fantasy world. And then all at once there is this chick (turtle) who is there sister... And everyone is crushing on her because there not blood related anyway so who cares!!! It was just wrong.:tsad: Although it is starting to sound familiar...
Maybe mutant snake Kari will be called Venus, Lol!!! Jk! No one kill me!

Someone's opinions, tastes, time having been a fan, join date of this forum, money spent on TMNT, etc., do not dictate how big of a fan of the Turtles that they are.
To suggest otherwise is asinine and childish. To make further off base and wild assumptions is beyond ridiculous. I thought the worst stereotype of comic nerds was bad, but Jesus ****ing Christ, some people here make that seem like an honorable goal. Troll or not.

Sorry about what happened yesterday guys, someone once challenged me on the SM fandom (superherohype) because i joined in September 2011, and they said i wasn't a true fan because i supported TASM, because at the time everyone hated TASM suit because of the set pics, i'm still on those boards it's 2014 July! they said the same exact thing! i would leave after TASM's release! so.. yeah that's why i got really defensive about that.
