I'm a huge fan of the TV sitcom 'Frasier' and Ive just finished watching the entire dvd collection, that I got for Christmas. Now I've started watching the show 'Cheers'.. which is where Frasier came from of course. Being born in 86, I never saw much of Cheers, as I was too young to appreiciate the comedy.

So Im watching this episode called "I'm Getting My Act Together and Sticking it in Your Face" -- youtube link >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWTCDYvhcIQ. And Frasier begins to mention a Charles Dickens novel, which of course, none of the other characters know what he's talking about. So then he mentions four pizza loving turtles that practice martial arts in the sewer! :D Which Cliff replies in the usual boring way that he does... "Y'know, alot of people dont realise, that was a comic book first!"

I couldn't believe my ears, and just had to post this on the forums! :D

Hopefully someone else is a Frasier/Cheers fan, and will smile as much as I did when I heard it :) lol. The quote is at around 6 minutes in to the linked video above.

I did not know that... I do like it when the four mean green get a mention in whatever show or movie I'm watching... It always brings a smile to my face...

I never knew about that either. For more Frasier sightings, look for his crossover on an ep of Wings. Cliff & Norm showed up in an other one.

I also love when I'm watching a show and hear about them. And I totally saw that Married with Children episode a few weeks ago when Kelly teased Bud about having a Ninja Turtle pillow and said something about Donatello. I took offense because I have a Donatello pillow on my bed....

Does anybody else remember the Married With Children episode with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles model coffin? It looked like a turtle shell!

And I'm sure everybody has seen the Two and a Half Men episode where they play the theme song to the old cartoon...

I hadn't seen that before (can't stand that show), but that surely happened because Chuck Lorre, creator of the show, also wrote the TMNT theme song. There's also a blurb that's been at the end of the credits about how he's never received any royalties from the song (and he's quite bitter about it).

CHUCK LORRE PRODUCTIONS, #243

Trying to get a break as a song writer I find out where Harry Nilsson lives and bring him a box of reel-to-reel tapes of my original songs. He threatens to kill me if I ever come to his house again.

Not funny then, funny now.

While working at Marvel Animation I'm told I don't have what it takes to write for the Muppet Babies. Sadly, it's true.

Not funny then, funny now.

Write French Kissin' in the USA which is covered by Debbie Harry and released as the first single for her debut solo album. It effectively ends her solo career.

Not funny then, funny now.

Co-write theme song for new animated series called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The show is a massive international success. The music publisher tells my partner and I that we will not be paid music royalties for the millions of video games and video cassettes being sold. The reason we are given is that they'd rather not pay us.

Not funny then, still not funny.

There were a lot of TMNT references on Full house. Uncle joey had TMNT Pajamas and Leonardo slippers, he used their bubble bath once, I recall Michelle saying she wanted to be one, DJ babysat a boy who role-played with her as Krang & threatened to banish her to dimension X, Becky's nephew Howie slept over in his TMNT PJ's and kept Michelle up all night jumping on the bed with a plastic Sai "I'm Leonardo, the mutant ninja turtle!" (No, you're Donatello, with a sai. Who wrote your lines?), etc. Countless nods to the green dudes. I'm a huuuuuuuge fan of Full House, so every time I see one of those scenarios I get a brief flush of giddy excitement. Lame, but it is what it is.

I distinctly remember a TMNT drop on Doogie Howser MD. I don't remember the exact dialogue, cause it was only a short scene I saw as a kid and I wasn't a regular viewer, but I remember Doogie's best friend talking to him about art and says something about the great painters Leonardo, Donatello, Michealangelo and Raphael, to which Doogie replys "Those are the Ninja Turtles." Thought that was cool as a kid.

...and other random TMNT appearances!

So I was recently rereading American Gods by Neil Gaiman the other day and got to a page which had previously been folded at the corner. Then I came across "...and so he prowled the liquidation aisles, staring at the things for sale: Boxes of coffee 'for use in airline filters only', Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle toys and..." Amused me that I would fold that page over only to completely forget about then rediscover it years later.

Then I was watching a movie last night called Four Lions, by Chris Morris. A quick synopses would be that its a black comedy about a group of rather inept jihad terrorists getting into other sorts of bother. At one point they plan to suicide bomb the London marathon. They go as runners in fancy dress, to hide the bombs they have strapped to themselves. One've the costumes is a Raphael.

So I thought to myself (and did a search, apologies if there is one) that it would be neat to start a thread with all these little TMNT mentions, references, bits and bobs, etc listed as we come across them. So feel free to add any that you may or not have seen!

Another very quick scene was in Doctor Who, 11th Doctor series five, episode 'The Lodger'. Very quickly, on a windowsill in the background is a TMNT figure.

Stephen King's The Stand. Complete and Uncut edition. "He (Bobby Terry) sighed and took another book off the stack. The Ninja Turtles were supposed to be 'heroes on a half-shell.' He threw Raphael, Donatello, and their numbf**k buddies across the store and the comic book they inhabited fluttered down in a tent shape on top of a cash register. It was things like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, he thought, that made you believe the world was maybe just as well off destroyed." He then picks up a Batman comic, "there was a hero you could at least sort of believe in."

I think someone at the CW channel rather likes Turtles.

Last season they introduced the angel Raphael to the show Supernatural which lead to an entire episode full of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Angel" jokes.

On the Vampire Diaries the two Salvatore brothers were trying to reason out what kind of new supernatural beings were suddenly in there town earlier in the season. The one to snark the other said that maybe they were "Ninja Turtles"

I knew a thread like this must've been started before, I just can't find it! Oh well.

Here's a coupla others. I knew they were there, I just had to find the books.

Stephen King, Nightmares and Dreamscapes. Short story called 'Popsy'.

'We came to the mall because my grandson wanted some Ninja Turtle figures,' Popsy whispered, and his breath was like flyblown meat. 'The ones they show on TV. All the children want them. You should have left him alone. you should have left us alone.'

Neil Gaiman's Sandman. vol 5, A Game Of You. Has reference to a waiter called Raphael on page 46. Probably nothing by itself, but when you read the afterword:

Kevin Eastman gave me somewhere to hide while I was writing part of the story...
And a wee bit further down:

Steve Bissette, Mike Zulli (who was there the day the story began), Rick Veitch and the rest of the Massachusetts mafia gave me support and encouragement.

Mayhap Gaiman had Turtles on the brain whilst hanging out with these guys!

Just 2 quick ones;

In the movie Y Tu Mama Tambien, the female lead and one of the male leads (it's been awhile since I saw this movie so bare with me) are catching up after having been apart for years. The female says something to the affect that the last time she saw him, he was mourning the loss of a Ninja Turtle. The male corrects her and says a Thundercat (it actually could be the reverse, but you get the idea).

The other is in Jingle All The Way. During the Christmas parade, there's a dude dressed up as Leonardo in the parade. The costume looked like one of the MGM attraction costumes from the early 90's.

More a cameo than a reference:
In Loaded Weapon, a National Lampoon parody of the Lethal Weapon movies, Emilio Estevez's character is climbing a ladder out of the sewers (if I remember correctly) and comes up on the Turtles playing Trivial Pursuit from Turtles 1, he even answers the question..."War and Peace"... instead of Donnie.

A couple weeks ago there was another TMNT reference in regards to Raphael. A homeless man whitnessed a murder and heard the murderer call out to Raphael to get HER (that still confuses me) attention. The homeless guy explained to the cops "He called out Raphael. You know...like one of the ninja turtles..."

Icelandic Rapper Bent made a song called "1 2 Jesus" about not getting TMNT toys or video games or TMNT clothes for Christmas, turning him atheist.

Robot Chicken did Senior Mutant Ninja Turtles which featured Splinter dying of old age.
Robot Chicken did another joke where Joey Fatone, trained by Pat Morita was fighting the four Turtles and had to guess which one was voiced by Corey Feldman (voice of Donatello in TMNT 1 and 3). The Turtles then shout "Awesome", "Radical", "Reaganomics", followed by Donatello saying "Clean? Sober? Back on Television? Things are looking up for the Feldmeister."

And then there's the "Real Ghostbusters" episode "Mean Green Teen Machine", which aired October 6, 1990. It concerns three teenage, pizza-loving spirits, who come to party in New York and end up in the Ghostbusters dreams. One of them was actually voiced by Cam Clarke.

I saw a little tribute thing on Oprah (I was
Flipping through channels), showing a few movies and TV shows that reference her show. Towards the middle, they show the scene from SOTO where Raphael asks if Oprah's on.

Does that count as a reference, or just a sighting?

I guess it leans toward the latter, but still...

Yes, Full House had tons of TMNT references. Actually, Becky's nephew, Howie, says he's Raphael The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and calls Michelle Shredder. Then when Becky's trying to tell Jesse she's pregnant, they're playing Pictionary. When she says the clue is about a movie, Michelle blurts out, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." There was an episode of "Full House" where Michelle was a having a party/sleepover/whatever, and one of her bratty little friends (the little boy who was always in a sour mood) was pretending to be a Ninja Turtle, jumping on her bed, and said something along the lines of "I am (insert Turtle name), and you are the evil brain monster Lord Krang from Dimension X!"

Also, when Maria Kanellis was still with WWE and was being an interviewer, she started randomly singing the Fred Wolf theme song.

The English dub of Samurai Pizza Cats makes a reference to TMNT in the first episode, in a scene where a city is being destroyed by a dragon "including a retiring home for aging ninja turtles". Just watch 6:00-6:10 on this video...

There's this, too. "No. More. Krang!" :tlol:

I like how angry Frank (the guy in the trucker hat) was. lol.

I don't like 30 Rock or Tina Fey, but I admit that was very amusing. Thank you.

I do recall Supernatural making a direct TMNT reference once. I don't recall the episode, but I'm sure it was last season or the one before that by one of the brothers. (I was channel-surfing and apparently viewed the scene with the Turtle citation by fluke.)

I'll have to look into that, as I wouldn't mind helping out on this project. I'm such a nerd like that. Heh.

Edit: Here's the episode title:

Oh, it also had a Kolchak reference. Double bonus (for me, anyway).

There is an episode of 2 and a half men where Charlie is playing the OT Ninja Turtles theme on the piano and makes a comment how that song bought him his ocean front house. I read somewhere here on the forums that the executive producer of 2 and a half men actually wrote the OT TMNT theme song.

It's been verified by many people that Two and a Half Men producer Chuck Lorre was infact the man behind the original toon's theme song.

There's another Full House reference. I remember it had to do with a kid DJ was babysitting. He gets his head stuck in the bannister. I don't remember what the reference was exactly, except that I think he calls her Krang.

The episode was called Misadventures in Babysitting during the show's third season. It would have been roughly 1990 when it aired. This is the line from DJ's charge whom was named Brian: "I'm a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and you are the evil Lord Krang from Dimension X! Now, kneel before me or I'll ninyiutsu you!"

In the next season Michelle has to put up with a fellow-preschooler named Howie who is wearing Donatello Ninja Turtle pajamas. Despite wearing Don's color he says" Lets play Ninja Turtles!". "I am Raphael of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and you are the Evil Shredder! Your going down bad guy!" annoyed Michelle leaves the room.

Earlier in that season Joey wears the same but of course adult sized- Donatlelo pjs when attending Stephanie's Mother-Daughter Slumber Party as a fill-in in "Slumber Party". A sleeping bag of the Ninja Turtles is also shown.

The fourth and I think only other Ninja Turtles reference was in "Grand Gift Auto" in the sixth season which the police officer that informs Joey the car he bought DJ was a stolen vehicle, has his innocence proven by the thing in his room and it was Ninja Turtle slippers that ultimately convinced her.

There's an episode of Tiny Toons that spoofed Sherlock Holmes where strangely; Ninja Turtle was considered an insult; Buster says it as an insult to Montana Max, then their horse carriages go underground, in the sewer, and make two turtles emerge from the sewer crying.

There's another episode of Tiny Toons where a turtle that resembles Michelangelo asks Mr. Popular if it would be cool to dress as your idol and buy his stuff; Buster says no; and he says he'll have to return the Mr. Popular merchandise.

There's a Family Guy episode where Adam West and Meg are dating and they're watching t.v. and you hear the OT Ninja Turtles theme song.

In that new show MAD; they did a spoof of the Ninja Turtles.

I remember another Turtles reference in Full House. In the episode where Becky finds out she's pregnant and is playing Pictionary with the family so they can guess what she's saying. When she says it's a movie, Michelle blurts out, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!"

dunno if chuck lorre does this on all his shows, but at the very end of every big bang theory episode, there's a card with a journal-like entry on it. they range from comedic essays to anecdotes about his career. You gotta pause em to read em, as they only show for a few seconds.

i dunno what episode specifically, but there's one where he talks about writing for animation, including episodes of the muppet babies and the ot theme song.

I picked this issue up today and was trying to search for a thread on "TMNT parodies" or something like that. I figured I'd just post it here, as this was the closet thing I could find.

Pretty cool reference in How I Met Your Mother tonight. Mentioned the original comic and Eastman & Laird. Most TMNT references in shows like that are about the Fred Wolf cartoon.

I know some in Full House. DJ had to babysit a little boy and the boy pretended he was a ninja turtle and I think he pretended DJ was Shredder or Krang and that they're from Dimension X. There's another one where Stephanie went to a slumber party with Joey. Joey wore ninja turtles pajamas.

On Saved By The Bell The College Years when they were decorating their dorm, Zack told Screech no ninja turtle stuff (I was disappointed in Zack for saying that).

Thought there was a catch-all for this kind of thing, but couldn't find it so here it is.

Find any good TMNT references in shows or movies or music?

I noticed the line and saw the man hole in Weird Al's Word Crimes video....but never noticed the Turtles...not sure how I missed them:

OMG! I never noticed the turtles either. And I find this hilarious because I commented on the video's YouTube page that the Turtles might dispute that line since they're surely at least a little better spoken than half the people out there. Nice catch, that is amazing.

To add one - Any WoW player would know this, but for those that aren't, World of Warcraft has a reference in a sewer under a city.
