"Steve Barron, writer and director of the first live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie has a book coming out later this year that documents the making of the first Turtles film."

I came across this randomly, it's dated June 26th, and I didn't see a thread about it here.

This is pretty exciting, If it does get a release. I can only imagine the wealth of information that will be in it, hopefully lots of storyboards and behind the scenes pics.

It's not letting me link to the site

If you want to read the full post, just search "Steve Barron releasing TMNT book", it will be the fourth link.

That link doesn't work. If this is true though I'm hella excited & it will be a day one purchase!

It's the fifth link now. This topic actually is higher :P

But yeah... that site is known for just making up crap and/or presenting rumors as fact, so I'm skeptical. Hopeful, but skeptical.

(Is that the reason the URL doesn't work whenever someone links to it? Because it's been blacklisted?)

Based on that article I'd say it's clear this isn't a book about the making of TMNT, but rather a book documenting his experiences as a director, which includes the first turtle flick. If that's just a small portion of it, I'm not sure I'll purchase. Unless there's never before seen photos or something.

Barron has had a super interesting career. I'll be buying as soon as it goes up.

Thanks for posting!

Yep, Steve Barron also directed Michael Jackson's Billie Jean. He directed two of my favorite music videos/movies! I like it. :)

When I was reading through the Ultimate Visual History the other day, seeing all the photos and the chapter about the first movie made me wish for a hardback coffee table book documenting the film. I've got similar for other films (Alien, Sin City) and I really think a book like that would be amazing. Hell, make it for the first two films, I'd be happy!

Has there been any movement on this? The website is inactive and nothing shows up on Amazon. I was pretty pumped for it!

No kidding! I guess content would be an issue here, but there's easily enough material in fan collections to work up a decent "making of" book for the first film or two.

Yes, he covers a bit about the development of getting the film made.

I'll post some excerpts later.

Sorry for the delay.been busy. Here is a excerp
Post a bit more later on.

"I'm flipping through the comic book "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"
Anthony(minghella, Cold Mountain,Talented Mr.Ripley,Jim Henson The story teller) has been writing a concept for me for a Bruce Springsteen Track, about native indians.we've sidetracked into this mad comicbook."
"Goldene Harvest showed it to me.they don't know how to make it.
I told them about you, what you did with storyteller."
"I'll take a look at it,looks like fun"
"It is fun.and sweet and dark and adventerous and different.
Different is pribably the biggest draw for me.i'm staring at drawing and ideas that could make a movie i have never seen before.nothing even close.it could be original.unigue. A challenge to make and keep true to its sensibility and spirit, but a challenge I want to take up and run with. I'v soent the last ten years trying to break new ground.this would be new everything."
"The trick will to make these fantasty characters exist in the same world as the human ones in the story.to feel that they are there and that the other characters in the movie feel that they are there.but they are lean, green, nimble fighting and playing machines."
"How are we going to depict that? The technology probably doesn't exist.yet.
"The hong kong based producers are saying that they were thinking that the turtles will be hand drawn animation and that we would shoot the film in homg kong for $3milliom."" I want animatronics and more of a realstic budget."

You can listen to his audio commentary of the film here:

I think this was only on the German DVD, but he talks about every scene and the entire filmmaking process.

That was a great little blog! The dude also has a really cool, and way more active, Tim Burton Batman blog.
