Who's the generic asian sidekick?
So Shredder now commands every teenager in the city?
Mikey twirling his nunchuck on 1 finger!
Ugh, Donny just fountain-spit water into that foot soldier's face.
They used cymbals as a weapon...is this a cartoon?
Head smash between their shells, really?
Why are they dancing?
This looks so bad. Its gonna suck. Not getting my money. Hollywood doesn't care.

Good question regarding this. As an adult, I just would've questioned the voices. If I was a kid now watching the Nick version, I probably wouldn't have thought anything of it and probably would've wanted to see it anyway.

What... How did you get that out of what he said, he was just talking about the voices in the trailer, the place-holder (if that's the right word in English) voices that was dubbed over with much better voices in the final cut of the film!

The voices in the trailer didn't match the ones used in the actual movie. They were....pretty bad. ^^

Well...
* Welcome, we live in more cynical times.
* Collectively within the movie section of the franchise this could count as a sequel of sorts, "reboot" or not, and sequels often aren't treated as kindly.
* In 1990, thanks to the cartoon the Turtles had been widely know for all of about...3 years. It's first generation were still young children, with the minds of children and not nearly as much time spent becoming emotionally as invested in these guys, touchy about details, or protective of them as compared to now 30 years of the franchise as a whole.
Provided that TMNT is still around for hopefully a very long time to come, I'm sure long from now technology will somehow one day be even better, will provide the world with yet another film that fans will carry on about and at that time this one may well find itself counted among the targets as proof of why that future one is "better."
Really, isn't it actually better that humanity isn't a hive mind and is capable of differing views... If it wasn't for the freedom and willingness for fans to express what they like or don't like and if everyone acted like 8-year-olds just happy for a movie "because Turtles," we might well be ending up with aliens.

I definitely know we live in a more cynical time and being kids gave us a different view but I posted this to show how any trailer can be overly scrutinized with exaggerated complaints based on a short amount of footage.
Hindsight is always 20/20 right guys?

^^^ Agreed! I think those suits still look pretty fantastic and capture the Turtles pretty well in a realistic manner. I would assume puppet technology has advanced, wish they could have wowed us with some awesome real costumes instead of CGI for this new movie.

Turtle designs weren't the point. You dont like them, fine. Its about the only thing that can be judged since we're clearly seeing them as a whole...still I think theyll look better in the context of the actual movie, for those who dislike them now anyway.
No need for suits. The CGI looks great and suits limit action. This movie is more action heavy.

Hindsight is always 20/20 right guys? true but we don't have a short amount of footage anymore. We've got a lot more now then we did when the first quick trailer was released and we got nothing but brief glimpses at title characters. What we have now is more than enough footage to make a judgement on if this movie appeals to you or not. In fact a few of the exaggerated complaints have been proven

No need for suits. The CGI looks great and suits limit action. This movie is more action heavy. there's a lot of things to judge based on on what we've been shown. A lot of the worries and concerns certain posters, myself included have had have had with this movie have more or less been confirmed by the various tv spots and trailers. If you don't like certain ideas like super strong bigger than the average man turtles or shredder being in a mech suit no amount of context is going to change that. It is what it is and there's no twist coming. That's a deal breaker for some of us and no matter where they go withe the story from this point we already consider it fundamentaly broken. I really don't see anyway more context could make this better. If I don't like the way something looks and seen it in limited motion I don't see how seeing it in more motion is going to change my mind. And while I agree with you that despite my feeling on the designs themselves the cgi looks good but I don't think they HAD to be 100% cgi. My opinion is that cgi works best when its used to enhance a pratical effect and I believe limited turtles suits with cgi backing them up would have made one hell of a live action turtle. Probably would've saved them time working on the effects too

I just meant the designs would seem better in the context of the overall movie. It'll all sync up. Opposed to seeing clips and pics of "Big, clothed turtles", but yes if you don't like how it looks so far that's fine. Pretty much the point of trailers...you see them to decide if you're interested.
What I'm showing is any thing can be highly scrutinized and made out to be horrible just because you don't like how it looks.
There's a line, a difference, between...hmm I don't like how this looks...and...OMG its so awful, looks like crap, its gonna suck!
As far as suits and CGI goes blending them would work too and would look pretty cool but I don't see a huge need for this.

I agree, though I generally chalk it up to people's attachment to them and not easily taking unwelcome changes.
I'm sure these guys in a way are like old friends to many people. And I suppose this movie is the equivalent to an old friend showing up at your door after a drastic amount of unexpected plastic surgery and not being able to keep from thinking "wtf happened to you and who did this??" I guess some are bound to be heartbroken by it, while others may try to take it in stride...
I was heartbroken a long time there until we finally got their personalities. Still sad over some of their choices for them, but now it's more like finally seeing that someone is still themselves despite what may feel like some unfortunate thing having happened to them.

Speaking as one of the cynical bastard people, I think that a big part of the reason people eyeball most movies today with a degree of uncertainty is because a lot of modern movies stink. Yeah, I said it. The fact that we're having so many reboots and remakes of older properties is pretty much a glaring neon sign that Hollywood is out of ideas.
And some of us are sick of nothing but an endless stream of CG popcorn flicks and kiddies movies being all that show up at the cinema.
I'm sorry if this sounds b*tchy, it's not meant to! :)

And then it's probably the fear that are they going to do it justice and be respectful to something people care about, or did they just latch onto it in order to pad their pockets. (Edit: That is one thing the original movie had going for it...wasn't is supposedly an independent? Rather than being a subject a big studio grabbed.)
It'll be interesting to see how it goes down when some younger generations start having their stuff "rebooted."

**reads the first post** Really? ...A new thread just to be critical of the critical crowd? **sigh**
At least this 1990 trailer displayed that the excitement and enthusiasm came from traditional weapon fighting rather than watching the flashy, over-the-top technology-oriented action scenes that seem more in line with Transformers than TMNT. I'm sure the 1990 production staff knew with their limited film-making technology, that the only way to impress the audience was the actual martial arts fighting itself rather than nowadays in this 2014 trailer, overwhelming the senses with how "cool" Shredder's armor was, the Turtles' massive sizes, the constantly rotating panoramas, over-the-top sound effects, lens flare, the CGI special effects, the superfluous gear the Turtles wear, etc. ...Kind of like a Lady Gaga performance where the over-the-top visual style heavily outweighs the obscure songwriting substance.
1990 Shredder actually seems much more methodical and crafty in enlisting and influencing ordinary teenagers to carry out his crimes (giving male teens a false sense of belonging) rather than 2014 Shredder seemingly launch a full-scale SWAT team in scouring the city for the Turtles. ...I mean I thought the whole point of being a "ninja" was being subtle and stealthy, but in this 2014 trailer it seems like the Turtles and Shredder hardly do that at all, if we're going on the trailers and all...

I don't think Hollywood is out of ideas...its just popular franchises are more marketable because they're popular. Not that hard to figure out.
So let's hault all preexisting franchises so original work can be made. Then we'll have complaints...where's my tmnt? Where's my superheroes? Why did so-and-so get cancelled/delayed?
Yet people still complain when a new movie comes along saying stuff like...oh its copying so-and-so or it wasn't as good as it seems.
You can't pick and choose when Hollywood does and doesn't care. You can't conveniently do this whenever a said-movie doesn't look good.

Respectfully, that's not quite what I'm saying. I don't think that the current onslaught of reboots and remakes bring anything to the table 95% of the time. It's not the continuation of long-running franchises I object to - it's the fact that they're remaking Private Benjamin, that they mangled 21 Jump Street, that we keep getting Hangover movies and Paranormal Activity: Part 62 and Hot Tub Time Machine flung at us.
It's not that popcorn movies didn't exist back in the 80's - but they still had some sort of substance. I mean, I'm actually starting to feel like I'm watching movies full of robot people with mainstream modern stuff these days - everything's overly slick, shiny, focus-marketed, all the actors look the same and ultimately they're (by and large) very forgettable and lacking in heart or substance.
Now if they want to reboot something that was a great idea but poorly executed the first time out of the gate - go nuts. We need that live-action He Man movie. I'm aware that there are no truly original stories left - everything's based on a set archetype. But the movie people aren't even trying anymore.
To wit: rebooting Universal's classic monsters so that they're all interconnected. I mean, come on. Bride of Frankenstein doesn't need to have anything to do with the Creature from the Black Lagoon. Instead of focusing on doing an individual take on the monsters and telling stories with heart, they're just going for the easiest approach to create another slick, bland franchise and milk the crap out of it. I'm not going to pretend that the Hollywood machine has ever been anything but a moneymaking machine with a bunch of people flinging sh*t at a wall and seeing what sticks, but maybe that's half the problem - they're not even taking chances anymore. They see that people like X, so hey, let's give 'em a three trilogies and a spinoff cartoon and just milk that sucker to death.
It feels like there's no room for imagination or creativity or hell, even just having a bit of variety. Some might also say that there's no room for my pretentious hipster snobbery, but nuts to them, I say.

I'm failing to understand the "ninja" aspect of the film. They're big as mountains, so it's difficult to be stealthy and quiet, the foot are using guns (major turn off), and are coming across as terrorists as opposed to trained martial artists, and since the turtles are bulletproof and overly powered (seemingly), what's the point of even knowing a martial art?

Maybe the tag line should be: "Ninjitsu, who needs it?"
But anyways, what's ironic is that as harshly as some criticize the OT for being too silly/childish, even it had lessons in pointing out that having the latest technology ("Shredder's Mom" episode, Chromedome), the most firepower ("The New Mutation"), or being the strongest physically ("The Showdown") doesn't necessarily lead to success. ...But one wouldn't get that impression with this 2014 trailer now would we?
These 2014 Turtles aren't the 1990 Turtles in being underdogs where they heavily depended on ninjitsu (as shown in the 1990 trailer), but these 2014 Turtles seem more like top dogs than anything else in their trailer.

#endrantNothing against you but Im sorry thats the exact same complaining Ive seen over and over.
Not liking so many reboots and remakes is understandable but saying all modern stuff is overly shiny and focused with the same actors but the older stuff was more creative really is just pretentious snobbery, as you put it.
People don't realize that basically the same could be said about any era of movies...they seemed the same with the usual actors of that time. Go back and look up movies from your childhood. Not your favorites just in general. The actors of that time were in alot of movies. Mainstream actors get alot of roles. Thats always been the norm.
Being more creative is just a matter of opinion. There's more remakes/reboots/updates now but like I said its easier to sell. That and alot of things have been used. Still Im sure theres many ideas no one has come up with yet.
Growing up with said-whatever just skews alot of peoples minds into thinking it was better back then. Im 29. I grewup with pretty much everything everyone here has but Im not gonna be pretentious about it. Ive always liked the idea of different takes. That Universal Monsters thing sounds interesting to me. Didnt know.
