View Full Version : What's The Surprise?

Official TMNT social media keeps saying this coming Saturday, SDCC (San Diego Comic Con) will feature a big surprise for the property. They haven't given any hints. What's your guess?
Here are mine:
A new comic series independent of the main IDW book, be it IDW's own Tales Of The TMNT, Tales From The Turtleverse (same idea but involving multiple continuities- Archie, Mirage, etc), Movie tie-in (yes, I know Bobby said they didn't want anything to do with it but that doesn't mean it wouldn't still happen somehow), or something else.
A new animated series. The new flick is getting pushed quite heavily, & their new IOS game features the PD designs in animated form. Perhaps an action cartoon in the vein of that could be afoot. Half-Shell Heroes was rumored to get a cartoon at one point. Perhaps a resurgence or reboot of the OT?
A direct to DVD animated feature based on the comics. Something fans have wanted for over a decade. Makes sense.
A theatrical film for the Nick series. Pretty much every vastly popular animated series on Nick in the last decade has gotten a theatrical film, if not one made for TV (like Fairly Oddparents). Could happen. Would be sweeeeet, too.
The return of Eastman & Laird in some capacity, be it attached to one of the previously theorized projects, or a new venture. There's no better time to get back together than for the 30th anniversary. They've had an appearance together, worked on some new covers, & gotten together for the Turtle Power documentary on at least one occasion, if not more, as Isaac has hinted.
We already know there are multiple toy/collectible companies getting to play with the license, so it's safe to assume this will not be a mere action figure/statue release.

Since Lloyd Goldfine is at the TMNT panel, maybe a proper DVD release of the 4kids series at last?
I don't think we'll see anything else you're mentioning. Between the movie and the Nick cartoon they have a lot for TV/movies, and the IDW series already has the mircos/mini-series and Nick animated comic on its plate along with the ongoing.
I don't think IDW can sustain putting out too many TMNT comics a month. Its probably why they aren't making any comics based on the movie.

A complete release of the 4kids series would be lovely, but I'm positive that's not the sort of thing they'd hype up like this. They practically sweep it under the rug, as it is. I realize Viacom has got their hands full with this property, but I don't think they're afraid of milking it. It's the 30th anniversary, after all, so I am quite certain they're going to hit us with an additional iteration. It's more of a gut feeling than anything rooted in logic, I guess, but it doesn't exactly not make sense. :trazz:

Maybe the trailer for the season finally. I believe last year we've seen the season finally trailer by this point.

I think that's a safe bet as far as content for the Nick series panel is concerned, but worthy of being hyped as a big surprise? I don't think so.

Hopefully they'll put the entire OT and 2k3 shows on Netflix along with All the current episodes of the Nick show... or at least Season 1 since Season 2 isnt quite done yet

Perhaps a resurgence or reboot of the OT?
What if the Nick turtles go to the OT alternate dimension for a story arc or even a season (something like FF in the 2k3 series)? I just don't think they are done with that dimension quite yet. Tiger Claw was mentioning it in his tail (see what I did there) of escape, Nick makes bank on OT merch, the original voice actors have been very busy as of late, and I remember Jacobs saying something about an upcoming project.

Half-Shell Heroes was rumored to get a cartoon at one point.
I always thought the half-shell heroes would make a great show for little kids on Nick Jr. Have it in the same vein as Paw Patrol. I know it wouldn't be geared toward us older fans but I know my kids would love it.

I love most of the ideas, I really hope it is something on this level of epicness, that truly rocks our socks, and not an overhyped let down!
I myself am really hoping for something comic related, man how great would it be to finally get Forever War? IDW has a great track record of continuing the original runs of licensed properties (GI JOE ARAH and Transformers Regeneration, so I'd hope that they could revitalize a past TMNT comic series as well. Since Mirage retains the right to publish 18 TMNT issues a year I would assume that if IDW was going to return to a past TMNT series it would have to be Archie (hey maybe that's the announcement Tales Vol. 3 from Mirage?!?!).
If IDW wanted to do their own Tales series I would be totally on board with that. This week's Turtles in Time #2 was the perfect example of why a Tales of TMNT set in the IDW series would be incredible. I absolutely love the IDW ongoing, but holy crap TiT #2 was my favorite issue, Erik Burnham should definitely be playing in the TMNT Sandbox more often. I think this property could support 2 monthly books with specials on top of it.

If they make something like Marvel Superhero Squad, where it's aimed at small kids but there's enough jokes and references for the hardcore geeks, I think that'd be great!

When it came to the OT Turtles making an appearance in the now-titled "Wormquake" special, the Nick staff (or at least the Nick promotional team) seemed content to let entertainment news outlets hype and interpret their appearance as something much bigger than a cameo appearance, until being disappointed a few months before the airing when Ciro had to tell us it was a cameo. So... I don't know if the Nick series properly scales the magnitude of a surprise. **shrug**

As much as I love the OT, I hope the Nick series doesn't have an arc/season with the OT. The Nick series really, really... needs to establish its own identity in terms of its own storywriting. Otherwise as luring as it is to capitalize off of OT nostalgia, in hindsight it's going to be seen as big misstep in terms of its creativity.

I just hope we get one eventually. Like Powder said, a lot of popular Nicktoons get movies...Rugrats had 3, Spongebob is getting a second next year...heck, even Wild Thronberries and Hey Arnold had their own movies.

A new game developed by Rocksteady! <--- LOL
Get it? No, though that would be sweet as long as it was city scaled like Arkham City, could use the Party Wagon/ Shell Raiser/ Battle Shell like the Batmobile in Arkham Knight and had sweet 4 player action, online/ split screen

I think if a few fans want more OT, then they should petition Nick for an OT reboot. Otherwise it just looks like they want each new show to be a xeroxed copy of the OT, and that wouldn't be fair for the folks who aren't into the OT or didn't like it.

I find it bizarre they bring back a random one-off character like Muckman and Joe eyeball....yet we have yet to see Hun, Triceratons or even Wingnut/Screwloose, Man Ray, etc.
How ironic that Mutagen Man, Muckman, and Mondo Gecko all debuted in Season 5 of the original cartoon, and all 3 have returned. Makes me wonder if Groundchuck and Dirtbag are coming next.

Wait I think I am surprised... ...More OT characters/villains? **sigh**
I mean I know the OT is being used as a template of sorts, but the fact they introduced these characters there at the convention as a surprise, rather than other characters from other universes or from their own unique designs, is another step downward in disappointment. :ohwell:

The surprise was Andrew's Origin comic, which was announced during the same day. Rejoice.
Too bad Andrew's TMNT comics could not be officially published, especially since official Mirage staff is doing the art. Wish there was some way to convince IDW to publish it.
