I think I'll pass reading reviews for now, I'd read them once the movie's out.

I'm loving everything I've seen so far so there's no need to convince me to check out this movie. :D We get to see it early on Aug 7th! How lucky!! :tlove:

I hope so as well. I still have some problems with this movie, but do feel that The TMNT is a successful film series away from becoming a sort of immortal property, One that will return with every fallowing generation. It is close now, But if this movie is profitable, They could be in the same sentence as many other pop culture icons. Like Superman & Spiderman.

Still too early to tell, of course, but you might want to take advance screening Twitter reactions with a grain of salt: reactions to an advance screening of Green Lantern in 2011 were overwhelmingly positive in a really similar way (http://www.slashfilm.com/early-buzz-screening-green-lantern-earns-positive-praise/), and... yeah, that movie was pretty far from great.

Not necessarily saying anything about TMNT's quality, mind you - just that advance screenings (especially ones given as a "gift" or contest prize) tend to always have a hugely positive response regardless of quality.

@SledgeHS Is it rushed? and does the film have heart?

@KOIfish11 LOTS of heart. The family dynamic was great between the brothers and splinter

@SledgeHS im dying to see it but im really worried being a die hard fan. Message me and tell me if oroku saki is the shredder

@Benjamin Sledge @SledgeHS
@FGiaramida88 they don't say it outright but it's implied. You'll be pleased

@SledgeHS Please, tell me - Krang and Technodrome in the movie?

@Benjamin Sledge @SledgeHS
@Artmntem nah, they kept the characters and plot simple which was good. Too much and no room for sequel if they did that. Turtle wagon tho!

I couldn't contain my self and had to read it (fortunately not too much spoiling, but I'm gonna have to learn some restraint, ugh). Loved that the movie has a lot of heart and a bit of focus on the bond between the guys, tho. That's one of the most important aspects to me, but I already suspected there would be a lot of that with the bro's getting separated and Splinter hurt, off course.

Here's my question:

So Oroku Saki is "implied" to be the Shredder but it's not stated outright? Uh... how does that work? I wonder what happens there - if either he's not even a character, just a personality-less villain to fight, or "Saki" is quickly dispatched with and Fichtner takes over? Either option sounds terrible, and I'm not sure what else this could mean.

So...

If Oroku Saki isn't even named in the movie, what are the odds that Hamato Yoshi will factor in at all? Or any of the classic TMNT backstory?

I mean... this movie is what it is. Just seems like a really weird choice, if it's true. Like not having Uncle Ben in Spider-Man's backstory, or cutting Thomas and Martha Wayne out of Batman's origin.

I was more or less convinced of that anyway. If that's true then I'm 100% convinced that Sachs was supposed to be the Shredder and they've hastily rejigged the movie without undestanding why fans wanted Saki in the first place.

Maybe Saki is code word for Samurai Armored Karate Intellegence

Getting some deja vu from when they quickly reworked the script and re-titled the movie to make the Turtles not aliens. And I could be wrong, but aren't their size and strength and bulletproof-ness holdovers from that concept?

It's a weird one. It feel like they had an original "vision" for this, and fans reacted very poorly, so they just kept trying to backtrack as far as they could considering the wheels were already in motion and they had firm designs and set pieces and deadlines to meet.

And that's the only thing that actually has me a tiny bit interested to see how it turns out. Based on everything we've heard, the production of this movie was kind of a train wreck. So how does the final product actually work? Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Maybe Saki is code word for Samurai Armored Karate Intellegence

^^^

If I would hazrard a guess I would wager that the shadowy figure is never identified as Saki but rather fans who know the franchise will be able to figure it out.

I would also wager they never state who is wearing the armor because they don't want embarass Fichtner after hyping him as the Shredder by outright stating he's not and probably not have time to script and film too many scenes with "Saki".

I think given their reaction to the alien question at comic con was very telling. In most cases they would have shrugged it off saying something like "it was an idea we had early in development but we realized it was a dumb idea" cue a cheer from fans but instead they acted all defensive and tried to justify it as a good idea. I'm positive they thought that Blue Door script was a masterpiece and upset the backlash caused Viacom to halt production and change it.

pdizzle
07-29-2014, 01:01 PM
But in all fairness as a writer with a deadline to meet i could see why at the time they kept certain elements not realizing what they were doing....i mean, after all, the backlash came from the turtles being aliens, not the bluedoor its self...my point is i dont think they grasped what the turtles was and meant to people first starting out

Matt2310
07-29-2014, 01:11 PM
i know hes referring to the shredder armor BUT wouldnt it just be a giant samurai if someone was IN that suit he was specifically talking about... and not a ROBOT samurai... idk just confusing

Up here theatres are the same - a 7pm and a 10pm. I just still call them Midnight Showings out of habit. I actually prefer the 10pm to the Midnight because I do enjoy my sleep.

Nothing on sale TMNT yet!! Cutting it close and I'm getting nervous. I have a feeling they're waiting to see how GOTG (which I am going to 10pm tomorrow night) will do this weekend before committing to theatre count and showtimes. :(

There seem to be about ten different movie threads, so I'll post my review a few different places until one of the discussions seems to be the "official" one. Here's what I wrote last night:

Just got back from an advance screening and had a great time!

Like most fans, I went in with pretty low expectations, since I'm not really a Michael Bay guy, and the designs and trailers had me skeptical.

That being said, finally getting an extended look at the Turtles in action, I warmed up to the designs a lot more than I thought I would.

The tone of the movie was pretty close to the first live action movie, maybe a little bit lighter, though. There were some funny bits, and the fight scenes were the best we've seen in a Turtles movie.

I don't want to get any more in depth than that for now, since I don't want to spoil anything, but I had fun and I'd definitely recommend it. And even though I'm not a Michael Bay guy, I *am* a Will Arnett guy, and will watch him in just about anything. It was fun seeing him in action, and Megan Fox and Whoopi Goldberg gave great performances, too.

And I don't know if there are any people who watch The View on the Technodrome Forums, but I heard that Megan Fox will be on the show Tuesday promoting the movie (Whoopi's one of the hosts, not coincidentally).
