People take everything so seriously these days...

I agree....heard this was for the UK release, who by last check, had no relation to that event in history

apparently we are still living in the past...are film makers not allowed to show a building being blown up in fear of memories from 13 yrs ago, there really are some overly sensitive people in this world

Saw that... Unfortunate faux pas by the company. I wouldn't say that people aren't right to be sensitive about something like that, a major gaff for sure, but no torches and pitchforks necessary.

9/11 happened 13 years ago, and this was a poster for Australia. I don't see the problem.

Is every exploding building in a movie going to be linked to 9/11 now? Might as well ban every action movie ever made

But that poster is so Michael Bay. I kinda want a printed copy.

It wasn't the UK poster, it was the Australian one.

Eh, it's a tumblr-level faux pas if anything.

one of the comments from the article:

Look, while australians may sympathise with the tragedy of the 9/11, i don't think they give a damn about the relation between the date and the poster. It's just something people outside US will probably not even consider an issue because, and i don't want this to sound the wrong way, it is americans the ones who care about this.

my sentiments exactly

Who are the ones mostly speaking against it?

If it was instead a July 7th date on a U.S. poster featuring an exploding subway system - no my country probably isn't going to care too much, though - and maybe I'm just a sympathetic heart - I couldn't blame those in London who might easily see it online and find it distasteful.

Granted it was the World Trade Center, it was not only Americans who were lost and we don't know if any international opinions might be linked to that event or not.

That ... was a pretty terrible call, honestly. Internet marketing is global, and that was really easy to avoid.

It was a unfortunate goof, taking it down just makes it awkward.

Here is the statement they have released in case no one saw it.

“We are deeply sorry to have used that artwork for the marketing materials promoting the September 11 opening in Australia," said Paramount Australia in a statement. "Combining that image and date was a mistake. We intended no offense and have taken immediate action to discontinue its use.”

I wouldn't have been upset over that (maybe a few sensitive people would) It was awful what happened that day and they still have a small memorial service for the 30+ people who died but we still continue as normal on July 7th (working, shopping ect).

If the July 7th bombing happend a day earlier a lot more people would have died (On July 6th we found out we got the olympics, thousands of people were in London that day)

Also the July 7th 2007 terror attack wasn't the only attack we had (cough IRA cough) I think the last one before that was 1999.

As an Aussie, I strongly disagree.
Besides the fact Australians died in the Twin Towers attacks, we are traditionally very fond of America and it's culture to the point of idolising/mimicking it...it was and is seen as an attack on us as much as the US- an attack on "the free world" if you will.
We watched it unfold on live TV too, and pretty much the whole country was absolutely horrified and devastated by 9/11, a truly global event.

Don't particularly mean to single you out or to get heavy, but it is most certainly a big deal here.

Paramount is very professional and took care of it. Though I feel that some of those complainers are just looking for reasons to get angry for stupid reasons. Like they're overly dramatic sods, attention seekers and trouble makers.

This is stupid.
So now we can have images of exploding buildings ever on Sept 11?
Get out of here.

Stuff happens every day, pretty sure there have been several posters released on days that will offend some one.

I'm not outraged or anything - I'm just amazed that someone was able to type "September 11" on top of an image of an exploding building without making any connection at all.

I'm sure it was just an oversight, or someone was just following a direction and didn't want to question it, but... yow.

Exactly.

So what, like Titanic sunk on 15th April 1912, so we can't ever have a poster with a sinking ship with the date 15th April, EVER?

Stupid.

Cipher

I'm sure no one was totally outraged over this poster, but ... guys. That connection was so easy to make when you have that date above the poster in a tweet. The Turtles were jumping/falling from an exploding skyscraper with the words "September 11" above the poster. That's pretty astounding. Why even chance dredging that up for someone when you're trying to promote a fun movie?

They messed up, did the right thing by cordially apologizing and taking that down, and promotion goes on. End of story.

Hyper-sensitive outrage isn't cool but neither is glib dismissal.

I'm sure it would've seemed like a bad call to do it while those directly impacted were still alive, yeah.

Half the time I don't even think people are genuinely offended, they just like bitching about stuff.

A boat sinking with an April 15th date ??
You insensitive b@stard !!!! :x

You'd probably buy a poster with a Nov 22 date and grassy knolls, wouldn't you?

Being an Aussie this is just so stupid. The main reason is, because the movie is released here on Sept 11.

Well, when the poster actually has September 11 in bold on it, I can see the stir. And what, you think only Americans died on 9/11 or just Australians live in Australia?

I picked up The Sun newpaper today (UK's controversial newspaper which has topless page 3 girls) and I saw that they picked up on the story. Must have been a slow newsday for them. :ohwell:

The Sun is a rubbish newspaper anyway, no one takes them seriously.

So thank God it's not from a reputable publisher pitching this ridiculous story.

Plus, this tragedy was not that long ago. It's a pretty easy connection to make and while there are people here who were clearly not affected by 9/11 -- some here may even be so young that they barely remember the fear and confusion that many of us felt that day, if at all -- there are a lot of people out there who lost husbands, wives, sons, daughters, best friends, girlfriends, boyfriends, people they cared deeply about whose lives were lost that day.

Upon further reflection, I want to apologize for my comments. Cipher is right on the mark here. It's easy to brush something off when you're removed and unaffected by it, but having looked at the poster, I have to agree it was just as insensitive as my comments.

Wow, a lot of in sensitive folks in this thread. It may have been years ago but a lot of people still have emotional issues from that to this day, not to mention all those lives lost.

I still remember seeing all that live on TV, it's awful memories in your head even if watching on TV. All of those specials about the people who lost lives or heroes who died risking to save others inside both buildings.

I'm still amazed how many people were willing risk lives to help others in New York, so many Heroes. They need to be remembered, which is why we have to think of those events the day it happened.

Sorry, I get still emotional thinking about it

They've just got to think of other ways to advertise the film in other areas.

I just assumed that removing the poster was to spare us the thought of the movie, and that it is coming, and that there is NOTHING that we can do about it...
