Gaaah. I really want to say more about it, but I can't. I'll post a full review closer to the release or when other reviews start popping up. A few points I will say...
-There are a lot of callbacks and references
-This movie definitely knows it's audience
-The Turtles are all on point
-Humor is a major component
-It's most definitely NOT Transformers

I'm certain that those Callbacks are of the 1st film. Cause 1, We seen Raph in the BTS pics in the Trench coat, Just like the 1st movie, 2, The Turtles are fighting the Shredder on the Roof top, Just like the 1st film.
So it'll be interesting what other callbacks to the previous films make it into this.

beeshaw: I'll be fine, some chucklehead just got my goat for a bit. I'll get over it. But seriously, the way people are acting like this movie's either going to cure or cause cancer is infuriating. If it wasn't TMNT, every single person on either side of the fence would hand-wave it away saying "Meh, looks like everything else." They wouldn't be starting holy wars over it. It's insufferable. I also can't stand seeing people I like get picked on or harassed, I just have a real problem with it.

Anyone who would go attention-fishing on this board of all places, would truly be a soul devoid of purpose. "Trying to Get Over with the people on The Technodrome" would surely be a fool's errand.
Not saying there aren't people like that out there, but frankly, anyone who'd resort to that for attention probably has nothing at all going on. If he's lying people would know in 12-24 hours anyway when people start seeing preview screenings. Why not give 'em the benefit of the doubt? His loss if he's lying, don't ya think? There was an advanced screening at an Indy theater in Midtown last night. Didn't tell us what we were going to watch so I was surprised it was TMNT. An usher handed out review forms afterwards. If you like action you'll dig it. They were definitely aiming for a wider audience for this one. Deviates from the source material but the casual fan won't notice.

What?! Seriously, if you hate everything about the movie and the discussions so much, then don't visit the movie-section, what on earth is the point? Hang out in the sections and threads you enjoy. There's no doubt there's going to be a lot of movie talk AND debates for a long time after the movie premiers, so it's not going to "stop". The only thing that will end is most of the speculating about plot and stuff. Don't actively seek out stuff that bothers you, that's the best advice I can give.

I hate to be that guy but i am calling shenanigans on him seeing the movie. and pretty much just seeking attention trying to be the cool guy
and this has nothing to do with personal taste of a film
mainly for a few reason
unless one of the major cities ,movie theaters wouldn't be getting it shipped yet
from experience even midnight shows are not shipped till day of to avoid bootlegs
anything shipped right now would be GOTG
if it is shipped do to a premier it would have a "Key" on it to allow it to be played
premiers for TMNT dont start in other cities till next week
most special keys, only last 24 hours and are timed as to what day they can be used
so unless you just used a Key you weren't meant to you pretty much just took away a chance for tons of people to see the movie
..im sorry but your posts are as vague as all the information we already have, no one is going to get harmed over you sharing a real review and their are many ways to do it without spoilers, you cant say "I Saw it but cant say nothing"
thats not how it works...unless you are under contract with paramount

Okay, I give. Here's a more detailed but non spoiler review...
The movie is good. Not great, not garbage, but good. First the negatives...The movie feels kind if rushed. It goes by super fast and doesn't really pause, it's very straight forward. April's storyline in particular just get kind of dropped without a satisfying resolution. She has an active roll in the story, but things don't come full circle her. Also, while the action was good...there's no stand out fight scene. The Turtles just plow through the Foot clan pretty quick without breaking a sweat. They're not Hulk-like, but the are a little too strong. Shredder is really the only threat to them but there isn't a strong and epic back-and-forth fight at the end. It's kind of like the first movie.
Now for the positives. The Turtles are great. They're fully in character, they're funny, they're not overly serious, they're a blast to watch. Mikey's thing with April is way more cute than creeperish. Knoxville does a fine job is Leo and everyone gets their own good moments. And the flashback scene with the young Turtles in Splinter is really sweet and funny. As for the humans, no one is terrible. They all play their parts competently. Arnett doesn't steal the show, but he's funny. Ficthner is alright, and no he's not Shredder. They're quick to establish that. Megan Fox is fine. You can see she's trying, and to the movies credit it doesn’t overly sexualize her. It treats her like a character. Shredder is pretty standard villain and gets a great fight scene with Splinter, whose new look takes a little getting used to, but he's really entertaining.
And while I said the movie feels rushed, I think that will help it win over casuals and young audiences. It doesn't meander, it doesn't fake us out with false endings, it's quick and to the point. It's not Transformers.
The movie never gets vulgar or offensive. It's light hearted, very comedic, fast-paced, and it has fun. The snow chase scene is the major set piece and it's great. Overall it's a very simple story, nothing more, nothing less. It's not gonna change the game but it's not gonna destroy childhoods. Kids will be entertained. Parents probably too. It's not the movie the fanbase was waiting for, but there's potential for future installments. It's like an episode of the cartoon with the visual aesthetic of Mirage. It's a fun popcorn movie.
Oh, there was no post credit scene in the version I saw, but that could change upon release.

It's kind of like the first movie.

you kind of brought this on yourself..you made a thread saying you saw the movie, then pretty much refused to say anything at all other than vague responses
its pretty much the "NANY NANY BOO BOO" of forum threads
people even warned you about what could happen, as for "being called out"
what do you expect..people are going to double check to see if you are indeed for real and if things dont match up they will say something and call your bluff
from one turtle fan to another..if you really did see the movie and your intention was never to give things away. you shouldnt have made the thread..its pretty much a big F you to the rest of us and just request this thread closed
if you didnt see it and are just playing with peoples emotions, trying to get a riase out of some and seeking attention, you should man up admit it and have this thread be closed

beeshaw: I'll be fine, some chucklehead just got my goat for a bit.
I agree with the holy war comment. I have never seen a fandom divided so extensively. From the immortal words of Abraham Lincoln "A fandom divided cannot stand!

Thanks for the info.
Sadly it sounds decidely mediocre and that's before the twists that if you care about the franchise are going to ruin it.
Maybe it's me but I'm not seeing the Mirage influence on the visuals. The designs of the characters are about as far from the original comics as you can get and there doesn't seem to be any "grit". From everything we've seen it all seems very over-the-top and cartoonish. Can I ask if anyone actually gets bruised or cut?
I'd rather a sequel didn't try and expand on Shredder's backstory given that they will inevitably expand the cast with Casey, mutant henchmen and aliens and what not. I don't have faith anyone making this movie could balance that. That was this movie's job and it looks like the opportunity has been wasted.

You didn't see it, and I know, because I SAW IT!
Here are the REAL spoilers
The movie opens...3am NYC...we see April O'Neill showering...this scene lasts for 20 minutes.
Cut to Eric Sachs saying IF WE CAN'T FIND ALIENS WE'LL JUST MAKE OUR OWN MUTANT SOLDIER TURLTES, I DON'T CARE ABOUT ANYTHING!! NOW SHOW ME THAT APRIL O'NEILL PLAYBOY SPREAD!!
Cut to April O'Neill on the subway, oops! Her shoe is untied, she bends over and the camera stays on her ass for a good 40 minutes while she ties her shoes, then all the sudden the turtles appear, they kill everyone in sight buy squishing them in their hands, because they're all 20 ft tall. Mikey is drooling all over April, and he keeps grabbing her boobs and ass. They can't actually speak, they just burp and fart, and pee and poop uncontrollably, it's very funny!!
Then there are just random explosions for no reason, and every time there is an explosion a picture of Michael Bay pops up in the corner of the screen and dollar signs pop out of his eyes!
Cut to Eric Sachs saying he's Shredder, and he's the best Shredder because he's WHITE!
Cut to Splinter telling April he's actually her father, and she's part rat.
More poop and pee.
Then the turtles kill shredder by lighting their farts on fire and he explodes!
Roll Credits "A MICHAEL BAY MASTERPIECE" is the only thing on the screen for the next 8 minutes.
There was a standing ovation in my theater! All our dreams have come true for this flick!
Then after the credits a close up on eyes, and it backs out to reveal Karai is actually half turtle! And she says "It was all a dream..." then all the detractors wake up and realize they've been crying for no reason because it was actually a good movie.

I don't know if it is my bad english coming across, but basically when one makes a "joke" thread it would be funny if there was actually joke involved and not just something meant to annoy . I am not a defender of the movie as I don't even know if it's good but I am annoyed when people put no effort in trying to be funny. That is the most offensive thing to expect people to laugh at something so horribly lazy.
Also just people getting so mad at whether someone is telling the truth about seeing a movie. Why not just wait til it comes out ? Why get so mad ?
Now you may ask the same question towards me and people who do this and make lazy jokes but I am not mad about it I just wanted to point it out to maybe influence you to try harder next time . It could have been funny it really could have

At least one or two people got a kick out of it so I'm happy. You can either be part of the joke or you can crash the party. I'll admit I didnt get to put as much time into it as I wanted since I was busy at work but I wouldn't take something that was meant to be a joke so seriously.

I thought I heard that Laird almost had a cameo with Eastman in the original movie but decided not to. Maybe it was in the "Turtle Power" doc? I don't recall. I think the impression is that he wasn't comfortable with "acting", and since he's completely uninvolved in this project I doubt he'd even consider it.

The Mirage influence comes more into play in terms of the look of the city and use of shadows. But the action is pretty cartoonish. No blood or bruising, but characters do take some pretty gnarly hits.
Nice. I noticed you said there were no standout action scenes... but then pointed out a couple?
And am I wrong about Knoxville and his southern twang? Is it less obvious in the movie?
I meant in terms of, "must see just for this scene". The action is good, But aside from the snow chase scene, nothing really memorable.
The twang is less obvious as the movie goes on.

It's hard to find information on the Mexico premier since all the Mexican sites/social media is only talking about Megan Fox...

Hey, maybe we'll all be surprised. Maybe this'll somehow be the TMNT movie we all wanted after all. I... kinda doubt it, but anything's possible.
But keep in mind, the Green Lantern movie got overwhelming praise from advance screenings (http://www.slashfilm.com/early-buzz-screening-green-lantern-earns-positive-praise/), and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who actually thinks that's a good movie since it was released. Getting picked for a free advance screening (and often some free swag with it) tends to get the dopamine flowing. :twink:
I actually got tickets to an advance screening of the 2007 TMNT movie and won a prize pack back in the day, and walking out of the movie I was blown away. And I still like the movie overall, but its flaws were way more apparent after the excitement wore off. Not saying that's the case here necessarily, but... it's not uncommon.

I really don't know what to expect. I mean people used the same comparison for the Guardians early reactions, but that turned out to be a well received movie after all. But I agree with you though, reviews on twitter arn't the best source for an actual movie's quality.
I really hope people aren't over hyping this movie way too much. It's can ruin the experience for people who haven't seen it in theaters, especially when you watch it expecting much more than what the movie offers.

Not trying to start an argument here, just want to say, I actually enjoyed Green Lantern. I saw it in 3D, and up until that point I had problems watching 3D movies and getting headaches. I also thought 3D was very lame the way it was being used. Avatar did a good job of using the 3D, but I actually prefered the way Lantern used the 3D. I haven't watched it in a while, and I know I'm in the minority when it comes to that movie, but i just don't have any hate towards it.

and then
Mikey: If I don't return, You can always find me, In hear. 'Almost looks as if he was this close to touching April's Boobs.'

That sucks.. also Eastman getting cut bothers me a little.. I was really looking forward to seeing him in the film.. not for my own pleasure entirely.. but bc I think he deserves it. Matt I PMed you for a more in depth response but.. how were the fight scenes? Would you say that they are better than the older movies?
I do on the other hand.. love this picture

There must be a reason why it was cut, They usually are. And mostly for pacing reasons I bet.
Either way, Those will end up in the deleted scenes on the Bluray.

I'm just gonna point out to Bry that I still think Green Lantern was decent, not great, but pretty okay. It was pretty faithful, I'unno what else they could do with it; that's the mythology, that's the story (basically), that's what everything is supposed to look like... they just needed less Hammond and more Sinestro. The Hammond stuff dragged the movie down. Sequel would'a been 10x better since Sinestro would have been the heel.
TMNT sounds like a solid B-, but all the stuff I was leery of still seems confirmed. I guess that'll have to be good enough.

Well, fair enough. I wasn't saying it was all bad, but reactions to advance screenings made it out to be the second coming of Christ in movie form... and it fell wayyy short of that.
Twitter reactions to special advance screenings just aren't a good barometer of anything except how excited folks get about going to an advance screening.

Yeah, the pendulum really swung super-far the other way on Green Lantern. Although even the day the Super Bowl commercial aired, there were news articles stating that the people inside WB knew they were sitting on a bomb and were already hedging their bets. The advanced screenings got a good response, but 1. People are generally pretty excited to see things before other people get to, 2. Everything seems better on a big screen with a packed house, and 3. Easily amused people are easily amused. I liked it, but I admit, I waited twenty years to see that movie so I was, and am, more forgiving than other people who completely don't care about Green Lantern, which apparently is lots of people.
Some movies also age poorly. I was super-hyped about "Dark Knight Rises" on opening night in a packed theater, and I still like it, but man, it's definitely the worst in the series by a lot, and that wasn't immediately easy to tell in the context of a packed theater of excited fans. So, there's also that. We'll see how people feel about this flick in a year. Story sounds... off.

Well since we're not sweating spoilers anymore...
The fart joke int he TV spots is the only piece of crude humor. That and Raph calls Mikey "numbnuts" at one point. The humor pretty much comes from the characters own personalities.

Coming from the guy that is always preaching about " opinions " all the time.. you seem to dismiss every single positive opinion out there.. The other day you dismissed an entire tour's worth of peoples opinions just bc they listen to " screamo " music lol.. Why are you being so arrogant and narrow-minded dude? If these people were trashing this film you'd take them more seriously.. no doubt lol. These are people.. you don't them.. but you judge them based on the kind of music they listen too or bc they saw a movie early? Like its not possible for someone to see a movie early and dislike it? Really? lol. A lot of them said they didn't have any faith in the film before hand and that they were shocked. Seems like the only " opinions " you respect around here are the opinions that line up with your own. I think that you are just a little sour tonight.. it's understandable. Enough with the Green Lantern movie also lol. Some people actually liked it believe it or not. Now... before you go off accusing ME of not " respecting your " opinions... your favorite word. Please understand that that i do respect your opinion. I'm just disagreeing with how you go about it.. which is allowed around here.

i go back and forth agreeing with you on the first part
but your second part is right on the money. saw TDKR in theaters first midnight showing, left thinking it was epic, which it was. but now, after watching it on dvd, without the packed theater cheering at everything, its definitley not the same. still good, but not as good without the movie theater.
i honestly believe with this tmnt movie, theres not going to be just one majority opinion. i know for a fact that i will enjoy this movie. i may not like a voice actor, or an origin or whatever, but theres a very little chance that i will not like this movie, as ill just look past it. and im a huge tmnt fan, dont get me wrong its not like im just going to enjoy it because its an action movie with the turtles, as there are definitley ways they could make an awful movie . but they got what to me are the necessary parts for it to be a true tmnt movie, and i will enjoy it for whatever it is.
on the other hand, i know theres also huge tmnt fans that are wanting this movie to be something else/have something else, etc. and theyre not wrong for wanting it, but its just not the movie for them. so it just all depends what they want of it
just what i think

puddingpop: I think providing a counter-point is fine. And I'm pretty sure that's what Bry was doing. People say, "Well, people's early reactions are...", and he said, "Well, that doesn't always mean anything, because..." and that's that. I don't think it's arrogant or condescending at all, he was just making a point. Unless I read it wrong.
And not speaking for anyone else, but if people were giving negative reviews with nothing more than a few short buzz-words, I wouldn't be any more inclined to agree with them, personally. Positive or negative, I can't put stock in anyone's opinions if they can barely express them beyond "That was fresh" or "That was corny". That says literally nothing in either case.

Yeah, I just don't think it's my kinda movie. Even the parts that are done well, the thing as a whole just sounds like I'd prefer literally everything to be different, and I can't see how I'll be completely satisfied with it. Stuff I really want to see, I'm not gonna get to see. Understandable.. When it's in every thread though? lol i mean.. how many times are you going to compare this to Green Lantern.. even though I and many others enjoyed that film.. It's like.. Everyone that went to a " screamo " tour doesn't count but Rotten tomatoes does? It just seems a bit arrogant for some to say " Hey.. i hate this movie and how they look, they screwed up and it's not what TMNT should be, they should just admit they were wrong " and I've read those words around here quite a few times. Its a little shocking lol. Considering the guy that drew the first turtles submitted the first concept drawings for the film. But I understand what you mean dude. And nothing personal towards Bry either.. I'm really just trying to understand this mind frame. I know that all of this Twitter talk should be taken with a grain of salt. But some of us have waited a long time for this. So it's exciting to see some positivity for once..

That's kind of a ridiculous statement. I saw Expendables 3 at an advanced screening and it was not good, and being at an advanced screening did nothing to enhance my opinion of the movie.
I would say with movies like this, you're going to get a heavy amount of TMNT fans, whether casual or die hard, same w/ other comic movies. There wasn't a die hard Expendables crowd when I went. I think what happens is the critics get to give their reviews, end up bashing the movie before it's release and then people don't go. Man of Steel got destroyed by critics, and had an 80% audience positive rating for the first few weeks it was open, not sure what it's at now though.

Shredder
The man in the suit is Oroku Saki. He has a baddass scene where he is tied up with his hands behind hid back with foot all around him and Karai watching. Saki says " Attack me " and he some how kicks the **** out of the Foot and frees his hands. Then he tells Karai, your men are weak, this is why they keep failing. The fight scene between him and Shredder is awesome. Splinter puts up one hell of a fight. According to Matt and a few other. this was by far the best TMNT film so far. No Krang but obviously left wide open for plot extension/ sequels.

Yeah, that's obviously where I was coming from. I'm not trying to oppose anyone's right to enjoy it, and I'm trying not to make too many assumptions about it. I'm just saying that early reactions tend to be pretty swayed in one direction and it's a little premature to call this anything more than that. Just trying to add a little balance, that's all. We'll have a better idea next week.
But that dude's had it out for me (and others) since The Unpleasantness a few months back, so I'm not surprised to see him back at it now that his ban's apparently been lifted. I'm almost kinda flattered he's following what I say so closely, even though he seems to completely miss the point and infer a lot of his own biases and assumptions onto what I say and supposedly mean. :trazz: But looks like he's still got high marks in attitude and low marks in having any valid point at all, so we'll see if it goes any differently this time. I've had him on my ignore list for a while now, so I'm best just ignoring any future trolling/baiting from that direction.
Yeah, exactly. I saw a bunch of those early "reviews", and they were basically Warped Tour dudes saying "that was SICK/that was DOPE" over and over. And if they enjoyed it, good for them, really. But that says absolutely nothing about whether the movie's actually any good, and I honestly think I don't have much in common with their tastes or expectations anyway.
Everyone expects and wants different things, yeah? I know a lot of people who love the Transformers movies and stuff like that because to them, "over-the-top action + broad character archetypes + bad jokes = good movie". And sitting through that kind of thing for two hours makes me feel like my brain's leaking out of my skull. Not assuming TMNT is as bad as any Transformers movie necessarily, but based on all the details here it seems a lot like it wasn't aiming for more than that simple formula. And I think any movie deserves better than that, even if the idea's "ridiculous". We've had so many truly good/great comic book and genre movies in recent years, made by people who aimed as high as they could and tried to respect and elevate the material, so it's super frustrating when a movie like this doesn't even try to reach that same level, or when fans of the property try to argue that it shouldn't or can't. I don't buy that for a second.

Bry: I agree whole-heartedly with your edited post. There's never a good reason to not aim high. Whenever I hear a filmmaker, especially, more or less dismiss his own material, saying things like "this isn't high art", or, "we're working with a ridiculous premise and trying to make it believable", I hear them as code words for, "I'm almost embarrassed to be working on this project, but I have to do it, so here it is."
I mean, Richard Lester hated comic books, hated comic book movies, especially hated Superman, and he got full reign over 1 and 1/2, almost two complete Superman movies. And look how they turned out: Awful, by any reasonable, objective standard. I feel like to make the best movie you possibly can, the people making it need to have *Some* reverence for the source material, you know?
I mean, I'm sure this won't be as bad as that, and they sure *say* they're big TMNT fans, but they also seem like they felt they had to "fix" lots of things, which implies they weren't good enough before. And reading the plot summaries, it doesn't sound like anything you'd need an intricate knowledge or love of TMNT to come up with. I'unno.
