View Full Version : Anyone else nervous about kids in the theater?

So I saw Guardians of the Galaxy and I thought it was a great movie overall, I'd give it an 8.5/10, but I really would've enjoyed it more if it wasn't more a little kid who would NOT SHUT UP THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE MOVIE. I told his parents to shut him up THREE TIMES throughout, and they just rolled their eyes. Since a lot of kids like TMNT, I am a bit nervous about this happening with TMNT. However, I rarely have bad moviegoer or little kid problems at my theater. The last it happened was with The Muppets in 2011. But I am still am a bit nervous. Anyone else.

To be honest this is partly why I more than likely will wait and go one day during the week in early afternoon. When hopefully many of the parents are at work and unavailable to take their kid at that hour, and the big rush for opening day/weekend has been through.
Hope that will at least somewhat increase my chances of getting my preferred seating and less kids to carry on and/or kick my seat the entire time. I hope the kids that go see it enjoy it, but I'd rather enjoy it myself with less interruption.
I'm worried about kids for every movie I go see, R rated movies included.

Same. I had Captain America 2 almost ruined for me because some idiots decided to show up with their 1 year old and sat right in front of me. Then the same idiots showed up again when I saw X-Men (but this time I knew to move before the movie started so that saved it for me).
As it is, I generally only go to movies on Sunday morning to avoid kids as much as possible (yes, both times these idiot parents brought their squirmy kid to the Sunday morning show).
At least when I saw The LEGO Movie I knew to expect kids and was prepared to tolerate them (and yet I blissfully ended up sitting next to some other childless adults).

< - that kid's coming with me.
He's well behaved, been to lots of movies (Hell, he even sat through all of Amazing Spider Man 2) and his legs are too short to reach the seat in front of him. So I'm not worried about MY kid in the theatre.

I cannot begin to say how much I HATE when dipsh*t parents bring kids that drop skittles everywhere, talk really loudly, cry/fuss, kick the back of my chair, etc. It's just a majormdistraction. It doesn't matter what time of day, disruptive kids show up always. When I go to the movies, I always look for areas where kids are not near. I usually have to show up to movies later so I know where they are sitting. If I go early, they find me every time and ruin movies.
Again I abhor when both adults and kids become so disruptive that I begin asking myself why I even watch movies in the theater in the first place.

Hell forget the kids I've been around just as many annoying adults as well. People who don't give a **** about taking their cell phones out cause they only give a damn about themselves and can't wait until the movie is over to be on their phones.
I've had a movie pass this past year but I'm over going to the movies now and I will only go for movies I must see on a big screen now which won't be many

The theater experience as a whole just sucks in general and it's mostly because the people -- those in the theater, those running the theater, and those outside the theater, telling you that if you don't like the movie they've made to piss off. :P
Of course, there's also the ticket prices, the less bang for your bucks concessions, the lousy, squeaky seats that hurt your back, etc.
I'd be happy to live in a world where on day 1, I could just buy the movie and be done with it.

Getting there I think, since some "on demand" features from some cable companies have a "same day as theater" retal option for some movies. Personally I'd like to own a hard copy as well, but it's a start. :)

Yeah, part of the reason I was already wary of seeing this in theaters regardless of anything else. Kids in the theater are sometimes a real huge pain in the ass. Not every time, obviously - I've actually been really pleasantly surprised more than once - but I've also been to more than a few movies where there were kids who just would NOT shut up.
I remember one of the times we went to see Superman Returns, there was this one kid that was so restless he kept talking, shouting, and running up and down the aisles. The family was sitting a couple rows in front of us and did little more than throw up their hands in frustration, it was horrible. If I'd acted like that when I was a kid, I would've been smacked so hard I'd have been embedded in the wall. Not just me, either; I vividly remember back then that I'd very often see kids get at least a spank for "making a scene" in theaters, restaurants, supermarkets, etc. I understand that kids nowadays are more hyperactive and less respectful in general, but fine, leave 'em home, then.
I feel like 10 is a decent age, that seems a little high but I personally don't recall seeing anyone who looked around that age act up. I feel like kids around 5 or 6 are too over-stimulated. And I kind of blame the parents more, I mean they're the ones who are supposed to set the example, but I guess they figure, "I paid all this money, let him (it's almost always little boys, y'notice?) do what he wants."
As a rule of thumb, we tend to go see "kids movies" at the latest possible showing nowadays, and that helps tremendously. Few parents want their kids up until almost 2am for a night out, even in summer.

I hope there aren't many when I go, as well other crappy people who have no consideration for others when they yap on their phone.
Although I saw Frozen with a theatre packed full of kids and they were literally the most well-behaved kids I've ever witnessed.

Mhmm... I was never one to make a scene, but hell IF I had I'd have been promptly removed from there, dead silence the entire car ride home and hear it like hell once we got in the house, both for having acted however and for the waste of money AND the loss of my parents enjoyment of the film.
Hmm.. a late one sounds like a good idea, will have to watch and see what hours it's playing around here.

I'unno about over there but in NJ a lot of theaters start their last show about 11:30 or so, which works out pretty well. Depending on length and how many trailers there are, a show gets out around 2am and most parents simply won't bring their kids to that, drive home, get them into bed between 2 and 3 in the morning, etc. So that works out pretty well, usually only about 20 people total in there around that time, which is also great when you just want to sit wherever you want. Sometimes it's even shocking how few people will go to that late a show even for a really good movie that's really popular. I've gone to blockbusters like three days after they opened and there'd be like ten people there at 11:30. I think it has nothing to do with the specific movie and everything to do with most people just don't want to be out that late, maybe for a bar or a dinner but not for a movie.
Good luck. :)

Indeed. Good on ya. Have yet to take the Burgermeister (Trey's aunt calls him "Trey Burger" for....some reason. She's not even sure.) to a movie. But then again, he's only 2. I hope he'll be good at movies. He's been good at church and at the ball game on our shared birthday trip.

As I said earlier, I think some kids just can't handle all the over-stimulation. Those tend to be sort of rowdy kids in general. It's like, they either know how to act in a public setting, or they don't. The same kids who act up in movies tend to act up in restaurants, at the park, etc. If they're generally well-behaved across the board, they probably will be in a movie.

Most of the movie theaters I've been to are willing to comp you the tickets if you leave because your kid is flipping out... I guess they'd rather deal with that than a bunch of people complaining.
That being said, there are certain things that are just common sense when you take a kid to a movie that some people don't do: Don't go during a time when they should be sleeping/eating/ect, don't take them to see something that's going to bore the hell out of them, and don't take them to a movie they have no business being at; people are going to be much more tolerant of a kid being a kid during a Pixar movie than during Sin City 2.
... if only something could be done about adults that answer their phones during movies, which the guy sitting next to me at the early Ninja Turtles screening did.

There is. It's called following them to their car and, as they're about halfway in, run up really fast and slam the door shut on their skull as hard as you can.
Fully 100% of those people never answer their phone during a movie again.

Besides just kids, noisy people in a movie theater is something I'm always concerned about. Luckily most of the films I was checking out were in a smaller, local theater next to an apartment I was living at with my ex-girlfriend so I never had to worry about a bunch of kids. Plus, I think it was the movies I was checking out as well. Like last night, I went to see Boyhood (best movie of the year so far I'd say) and of course there wasn't an annoying type of crowd.
For TMNT, we're bound to have obnoxious little kids in a theater with us so that's why I'm thankful I'm getting an advanced screening next Wednesday and I'll more than likely be checking out the Thursday 7:00 showing with some friends the day after.
Long story short, yeah....misbehaved children can certainly ruin an experience for me.

For this movie to be succeful it needs kids to love it much like the transformers series. It sounds like this movie is going for a light hearted feel with an updated grittier look and I believe that caters to a younger audience. They need the fans of the nick series to really go nuts over this movie and I think if they achieve that then we could get a sequel announcement within a few weeks. But I've read on a couple different boards that so called hardcore fans are not going to see this movie because of bay, nostrils, lips ect. If that's true then that's ****ing stupid. It's a tmnt movie and if the personalities are there that should be good enough for all fans to show thier support.

For me the problem is usually not the children, but adults who bring in popcorn and other crap, and make noises trough the whole movie by eating/rubbing the snacks-bag, etc.
It's a real killjoy listening to thousands of yum-yum at the most dramatic scene of the movie. No wonder, I usually avoid movie theaters.

Not saying all teenagers are like this, but I seem to have the most issues with teens acting up during a movie. Just acting a fool all throughout. Like taking selfies during the movie. I understand they are documenting their good time, but DURING a movie? With the flash and everything? And disturbing people. And I've had some teens who just wouldn't settle down, and I tried nicely to ask them to stop and they just got even worse after I said something.
I've also gotten people who have gone seen a film I was seeing, and just heckled the entire time. Just making comments throughout, rude ones, and you know, not everyone will be pleased with any movie, but do you have to be a loud, persistent movie critic during the ENTIRE film?! Maybe I enjoy it and you're heckling is just ruining the entire thing.
If my friend and I have to, we'll sit ALL the way in the back to avoid people as such. Least we know no one will be behind us.

Well, I am one of those people who bring their own snacks in (sure I'm not the only one!), which I usually bring them in plastic zip lock bags, since they make the less amount of noise. I'll do the same with popcorn I buy. I'll nab from the bucket and put in a plastic bag (because I mix Hot Tamales candy with my popcorn, and not everyone likes that, whereas I do). But yeah, I open candy and such prior and put it in a zip lock and bring the zip lock. Because it's quieter, bigger so I don't have problems reaching in and grabbing the items inside, and I also like to mix candy. Plus, it becomes a pain dealing with all these candy boxes when it's a lot easier just putting it all in a baggie. But I have never had anyone around me complain or hear me when I eat snacks at the movies.

I've been a bit lucky with kids in theater, I sit near the back as most kids like to sit near the front. Apart from the time when I went to see Transformers 4, I could hear a kid keep asking questions to his parents about what he's seen in the movie, that was annoying.
Also a few years ago, I took my Nephew to the cinema to see Meet the Robinsons. A parent brought a 2 year old to watch a movie and the kid just wouldn't sit still and parent just let her kid just run up and down(Nobody complained to her about it as their were only about 5 more people watching it).
When I went to see Toy Story 3, the screen was full and were alot of teenagers in front of me and they were talking and being rowdy. The movie hadn't started and not even the adverts had even come on yet but a parent who sat behind me went over to them to ask them if they going to be quiet during the movie. They were quiet of course but the kids with that parent weren't and she had to leave 20 mins into the movie after another parent complained to her.
Not a rant over kids in movies but over the cinema itself
When I went to see TMNT 2007 movie the screen was half full. The movie didn't start off well as it had no sound and people started to shout to projectorist but to no avail so most of them went out to complain. we finally got sound after about 10 mins. Luckily the staff game us free movie tickets, I used mine to see the movie again, which that time had sound from the start.

You do realize that you'd be just as annoying as the kid in that instance, right?
Also, if you hear people munching on snacks, which is hardly the most disrespectful thing at a movie theater, then what you should complain about is that their sound isn't loud enough.

I totally get where you're coming from I had a kid in dawn of the planet of the apes that's was awful throughout half of the movie and it was a 9:15 showing. My biggest problem with this film has been the non stop nitpicking of every aspect of the film from all the fans. I get nervous about any inconsiderate person at the movies whether it be a child or an adult. I always try to schedule my theater trips to times that have smaller crowds unless I'm dying to see something right away. Personally, I'm more worried about this movie being terrible than I am about who is in the theater watching it with me.

You know what, my theater near me has a section just for adults (you have to be 21 or older to go see it, because they serve hard liquor) but I often find that bunch to be just as unruly as the kids.
Sunday mornings seem to be the best bet for me for lack of people, but when it comes to big spectacle type of movies, I kind of like going with a large crowd.

Yeah that sounds like a rowdy mix... Personally I've often found 21-year-olds to be the adult version of 14-year-olds as it is (no offense to any young 20s on here), then add in alcohol... ohhh boy. lol
Although a separate section, or how about a separate theater room for the first week or two for movies such as this one, would be an awesome idea. Would help if even just playing it a few times a day for a certain age and older only on a screen shared by an older movie that's winding down it's time in the theater and is shown less often. Theater companies, do this please.

I wish a theater company would actually start charging membership, like Coscos or Sam's, and they actually sell VIP cards, that way, when I go, I will hopefully won't be stuck with a bunch of A holes.

Came in here to say this. Being a dick during a movie is, amazingly, not limited to kids.
I don't think it's worth being "nervous" about, though. It's always a risk when you go to see a movie, especially something all-ages and Hollywood like this. Just part of the experience, and you have to hope people know how to behave themselves or are asked to shape up by seat neighbors if they or their children are being disruptive.
I bring my kid with me to every movie I see (as long as it's appropriate, obviously). He almost always behaves, and if he doesn't, we leave... because I'm not a crappy parent.

I remember at Dark Knight Rises, place was jaaammed, and people were definitely loud, and rowdy, but in that "good" way, when they'd react really, really loudly to something but then quickly shut themselves up so they didn't miss anything. That was cool given how many people were there and that it never went south.
Just being honest, I've been lucky enough to only have been in theaters with kids acting up, and even that's been easily avoided by going to late shows. Everyone older than ten seems to behave themselves, thankfully.

I totally agree with this post. I actually do think this movie will do well. At least well enough to warrant a sequel. There is just so many awesome things they can do with this cannon.. with the tech we have today I just cant imagine a Technodrome lol.

That comparison is not even close.....the topic is distraction at the movies due to annoying people (kids have earned a lot of the focus).
Are you insinuating that having many women at a romantic movie is annoying? By your comparison, one would have to just deal with having women at the movies just like we have to deal with children at the movies.
Technically it's not a kids movie as it's rated PG-13, meaning kids can't go unattended. That being said, way to come in here and act insensitive.

..... yeah... it's a Ninja Turtles movie. PG-13 or not, it'll be still considered a kids movie and it will be packed with them.
I'm just saying it sounds dumb to complain about kids when going to see a kids movie. It just can't be helped, so deal with it, or wait til it comes out on DVD.

Hmph. I think if I were to go see a romantic movie I'd be able to behave myself just fine as usual...
Can't be helped that there will likely be kids is one thing... that there are kids allowed to be out of control and/or continuously disruptive is a whole other thing.
I don't find it entitled to prefer one's own paid for movie experience to be enjoyable, if someone else's lax parenting is helping ruin it for others that is shameful.
Years ago my parents would never have allowed me to see a PG 13 under that age as it was. Heck it was almost a right of passage to be old enough for that rating. lol
The Turtles should be able to have the occasional thing that's meant more for an older audience and be taken a touch more seriously in terms of being an adult-worthy franchise. Few other heroes have the amount of issue these guys have of being regarded by outsiders as just a kids thing. I hope maybe this film at least earns them a little more respect from those outside the fanbase.

I bring my kid with me to every movie I see (as long as it's appropriate, obviously). He almost always behaves, and if he doesn't, we leave... because I'm not a crappy parent.
Same here. My daughter started getting restless during Winter Soldier, which sucked because I'd been counting the days to release. But, as soon as she started trying to talk, we left. I've had too many movies ruined for me by ****** parents that I'm not going to do the same to someone else.
In the case of Turtles, I think she'll be much more engrossed and less likely to make a scene because she LOVES TMNT. There's also the high probability that at the 10:00 am showing we'll be going to, there will be a ton of kids and a couple quiet sentences by her aren't going really make or break anything.

Sorry you felt you wasted your time, but you know to the general audience at large this will seem like a kid movie based in the main characters alone.
They could honestly make an R rated tmnt that involves rape, murder and excessive swearing.... And there'll still be dumbass parents taking their kids to see it only to be shocked and get the soccer moms riled up.

So did some critics. I remember Ebert hated Kick Ass, and even said he was disturbed that there are people out there who would actually enjoy it. Some things are just too much for some of the general adult to handle I guess.

I never see a movie opening week. There might still be kids but you're more likely to get a calm theater with less people.

At this point I never know what to expect. Adults and kids both suck at the theaters. Ratings never matter and parents that get outraged are generally oblivious to the content of any movie going in and then blame everyone else for their child hear a swear word.
I'd have to say my most frustrating experience in a theater recently was a 10pm showing of Riddick that some a-hole parent brought their 4-year old to. They knew in advance that their child shouldn't watch the movie so they sat in the middle of the theater, brought their ipad, and then let their child watch videos and play games during the first half of the movie until he fell asleep.

I go to the movies a lot... A LOT. And I very rarely have problems with kids around me ruining the experience.
I have more problems with adults or teenagers. Being very rude and loud, sometimes putting their feet on top of the chairs DIRECTLY NEXT TO ME (just about the most disrespectful thing you can do to someone in a theater -- nobody wants to smell your feet and see them in their field of vision, plus they make noise)
oh and don't get me started on the making out. nobody wants to see that and hear the nasty sucking sounds during the movie. please do that **** somewhere else.
as much as i love going and will continue to go, it's a constant thing on my mind when going to a theater. how rude will the other people be and how destroyed will the experience be as a result of their behavior? sadly it is a big issue.

Random curious question... Does there ever seem to be any difference in audience behavior between regular screen and 3D? Any chance people are more engrossed with the 3D that they might be more focused and settled down? (Never done 3D so just wondering.)

I swear, if people can't get a sitter then you don't go out that night. Probably the same sort of people who would always have a young child out late in the large store I used to work at, past closing time, refusing to hurry up, pay and get out, and their darn kid has been carrying on for god damned ever because it's late, the child is exhausted and should be in bed. So many self centered people anymore, the kid is just something necessary to bring along, not a small person (as well as other adults in public) to be given consideration to.

Yeah, I have to nearly agree. It's teens and adults who flip their damn phones on and cannot seem to keep them shut for very long. And whenI went to see Transformers 4, I'm sorry someone is sick, but there was this woman behind me that was constantly sneezing, and loud. Really, if you are that sick that you are sneezing, coughing and keep blowing/sniffling your nose, stay home so the rest of the audience doesn't catch what you got. Some people man!

Here's my share of bad movie experiences, hope you actually enjoy reading them, lol.
What the kid behind me was doing throughout Guardians of the Galaxy was laughing at EVERYTHING, seriously, even things that weren't supposed to be funny. When Rocket was all like I DIDN'T ASK TO BE MADE, the kid laughed the loudest, most annoying, obnoxious laugh ever, at one of the most dramatic parts of the movie. I really wanted to punch that kid after that. Like I said, I need to see it again.
When I went and saw Percy Jackson Sea of Monsters, some kids came in behind me and were like OH MY GOD STRANGERS, THERE ARE SO MANY STRANGERS HERE! Yeah, kid, its a movie theater, you are gonna see strangers. And throughout the first 30 minutes of the movie, there was a baby crying and SCREAMING and that was horrible, but luckily they left 30 mins in.
This is small, but at times you could hear a baby screaming during the opening night IMAX 3D show of Godzilla (2014) at 7 PM. It wasn't that much, it only happened about 4 times during the movie, but it was annoying when it happened.
Next up, is Muppets Most Wanted, however this was brief, mostly. Behind me was a little girl who looked to be the age of 4 was talking really loud throughout the first 30 mins of the movie, not whispers, talking LOUDLY. But about 30 or so minutes in, the dad grabbed the kid and left, however the girl was screaming I DON'T WANNA GO!!!! I DON'T WANNA GO!!!! At the top of her lungs, and that was annoying. However, the rest of the movie was peaceful after that.
Also, I have some small but still bad moments with the 2 times I went and saw Toy Story 3 in theaters. First time, towards the end of the movie during the scene with Sid, some kid in front of me just randomly stood up for about 30 seconds. Seriously, he just randomly STOOD UP for NO REASON, before his mom pushed him down. That sucked. And this happened only during the trailers, but hey, I like the trailers. It happened when I went and saw Toy Story 3 for a second time, this old woman wouldn't shut up during the trailers. I remember during the trailer for Tangled she was all like OOOOOH RAPUNZEL and during The Smurfs teaser trailer she was all like OOOOOH THE SMURFS I USED TO WATCH THOSE GUYS and I was worried she was gonna be a problem throughout the movie, but she turned quiet when it came on, so that's nice.
I went and saw The King's Speech for my mom's birthday with my dad and sister. My mom and I are were enjoying the movie, but needless to say, my dad and sister were not. My dad who is usually quiet during movies starting complaining THIS MOVIE IS SO BORING and my sister was like YEAH I AGREE and kept commenting really loudly next to us, and my mom and I went up and moved to the back.
Next up is Lincoln, but this too is brief. During the first 15 mins of the movie, a little girl who looked like she was 2 years old was running up and down the aisles, but the mom eventually ran up and grabbed her, then left. It was actually kinda funny when the mom ran up and snatched her.
So yeah, those are my bad movie experiences. The thing that scares me that I forgot to mention is the kid behind me was wearing a TMNT shirt. Yeah, that's one of the reason why I am really worried.

i once posted this in another thread but my worst movie experience, Spider-man 3, and not because of the movie itself..just the dude next me me kept trying to make out with his girl and ended up quietly fighting right in my ear
the other was when i saw wanted, and a guy brought his entire family which ended up with 6 kids crying and screaming the entire first half of the movie
of course i also have a friend who falls asleep every movie, and then wakes up when something usually jumps on the screen and jumps on someone next to him..or starts snoring

I can top that! Not related to the thread topic at all, but... when I saw Spider-Man 3 on opening night, two groups of people almost got into a fist-fight in the aisles. Like two-thirds of the way through the movie. Got kinda weird after that.

Oh, y'all just hate kids. Don't you remember when you used to be one.
I'm kidding, I'm kidding...
I was the kind of kid whose parents didn't allow to see a PG-13 movie until I actually passed the age of 13, and now I actually wish more parents would keep their immature kids out of the film for the rest of our benefit.
I had Captain America 2 almost ruined for me because some idiots decided to show up with their 1 year old and sat right in front of me. Then the same idiots showed up again when I saw X-Men (but this time I knew to move before the movie started so that saved it for me).
Wow, in all my years of movie watching in small towns, I don't ever remember seeing the same people at any given showing, let alone having them sit in front of me both times!
It's a small world, after all! :tlol:

My latest worst experience, besides the Transformers, would have been during X-Men DOFP. A man and his pregnant wife/gf sat right next to me, and within the first 5 minutes, she started asking him all these questions, like who is that, what can that person do, why are those robots attacking them. When the man told the woman to hush, then she started to go on, very loud, how this movie i so stupid and that she could feel some of her brain cells melt for watching such a stupid movie. When everyone finally turned to look at the couple, that is when the man turned and and got hostile with her "I told you, you wouldn't like this, you should have just stayed home! Now STFU and either watch the movie, or here, take the keys and leave, I'll go get a cab." She sat there, with the keys, and it sounded like she was crying a bit. And then she started to take the keys and chink them. When he tried to grab them from her, she yanked back, laughing and then bumped my drink, almost spilling it on me. She was like oops. I finally told her, oops my ass, and I took some ice cubes and flung them at her, and warned next time, the entire soda will be on her head. The husband chuckled, but after that, the lady was finally silent.

Kids are the reason I HATE seeing movies in the theaters, especially when school is out, because there are more of them around.
to be fair, people of ALL ages can be jerks. I nearly got into two fights in theaters
1) this girl, without knowing kept kicking the back of my brothers chair, we asked her politely to stop, she politely apologized, and stopped, but then her idiot boyfriend had to step in and swing his junk around when the matter was already settled.
2) this group of guys, clearly snuck into the movie, clearly had already seen the movie, and would recite lines before the character on-screen, and kept doing so for a good chunk of time. they were asked to stopped, but kept going, until they finally got bored, and left. my brother was readying himself to ask them to stop one last time, and i knew if had to, a fight would break out...but guaranteed, those guys were getting alot of people angry, my brother and I would not have been unsupported.
*i dont condone fighting, not that anyone cares, but i just wanted to make it clear considering the stories i just wrote.

I had this happen to me once. A few years back, they re-released The Lion King in the theater, I never saw the movie in the theater when it originally came out, so decided to treat myself one boring afternoon. Shortly after the epic opening credits, as soon as the talking started, some woman behind me was talking right along with the characters. About 5 minutes in, I just moved, since we were the only people in the theater, but really, the self centered, no consideration of a society we are living in, is probably the number one reason why tickets sold at the theater are down.

yes to this. ALL of this. my wife, and I constantly make observations about just how rude people are to each these days. any concept of consideration is thrown completely out the window in favor of the 'me' mindset. and yes, this is definitely a turnoff to seeing films in theatres. in fact, if this movie wasnt the turtles, guaranteed I wouldnt be going to the actual movie theatre at all this month. Guardians, I can wait. Lucy, and Expendables, I can wait. but Turtles, my 10 yr old self needs to see this in as large a screen as possible.

I've gone to movies around 11 pm or later and I never have this problem. And the times there are children they tend to stay quiet. When I took my nephew to see the dark knight rises, he was pretty chill and only asked about some stuff every once in a while, but was overall well behaved.
To be honest I'm more worried about adults being annoying than kids. Even then The movie tends to be loud enough to block em out.

Just to bring the mood back up, you know what pleasantly shocked the hell out of me? We went to see "Godzilla" one afternoon, and it was raining really, really bad. About 20 minutes or so into it, the picture cut out, then the entire movie stopped and the lights started flickering. At first, nobody said anything, but everyone was confused, and after five minutes everyone got a little restless. Eventually, an usher came out and calmly explained they were having some electrical problems due to the storm, but that everything should be back to normal in less than ten minutes. So, everyone went out to take a piss or get snacks. One guy was being a little ostentatious about saying he was going to get his money back, but everyone else was surprisingly chill. Everyone just settled back into their seats, and soon enough they backed the movie up a couple minutes and restarted it (to much applause ). Everything else went smooth, and most of the crowd even cheered at the end of the film.
I was very pleasantly surprised how well everyone dealt with the situation. Sometimes people surprise you.

I'm expecting kids at the theater, of course but I don't think they'll ruin the movie for me. Teenagers on the other hand tend to make more noise/disruption during the movie. Once when I was watching the final Harry Potter movie, a group of teenage girls were making so much noise it was utterly annoying, they ruined the whole experience for me.

Oooohhhh, I hate that. I also hate when a movie hits a joke they've over-played for months in the trailers, and everyone decides all at once that they've never heard it before and are gonna laugh like it's the single funniest thing they've ever heard. It's like, "C'mon, even if that was funny once... it isn't anymore." That purposeful over-sell. Drives me nuts.

Took my cousins and my niece and nephew to see the movie. Wasn't too bad I knew my cousins were going to behave even the 6 year old who has a very small bladder. Told me himself he would wait until the movie was over so not to miss anything (I couldn't be more proud) and my neice and nephew are 1 and 2 of course we have never had a problem with them acting up in public normally at home.
This obnoxious little snot in front on the other hand wouldn't shut the **** up for anything. It even made my normally passive cousin upset and she give Jesus a run for his money with her belief in fighting. It's sad when the 2 year old throws popcorn at you to shut you up. Hahaha but what are you gonna do?
Over all the movie is about what I expected Mikey makes a few too many flitatious joke which get old very quickly. Leo is a bit of a wet blanket when not playing off the other 3. Donnie for the most part is just their to spout exposition and nerd humor. Raph stole the show which bugged me since Raph is ranked fourth as my least favorite Turtle. Not terrible but I wouldn't make an effort to see it again. Glad my cousins enjoyed it however since this was for them.

I too, was one of those kids whose parent would not let me see a PG-13 rated movie until I was 13. Otherwise, I saw Disney movies and the such.
But you know, we were going to bring my 5 1/2 year old nephew, but I am just finding out that not only do the loud sound systems in the theater scare him, but so does being completely in the dark like that. And now, the size of the Turtles, have scared him (suddenly, for some odd reason. He wasn't saying that before). So you know, when I go see it, I won't be bringing my kid nephew.
And you know, I don't mind so much people making comments about the movie, during the movie, but do it under your breath. Not loud to where others can hear. Because I'm going with a friend of mine who also has been a Turtles fan ever since he was young (like me). So I'm sure, we'll make some comments from time to time while we watch.
I just hope my own stomach illness doesn't mess with my enjoyment of the movie. Honestly, I'm more concerned my stomach will ruin the movie before anyone else has a chance to (not saying it will happen :/)
Anyone else have the same problem with a movie before? You ruin it for yourself?

The theater I'm going to does tell audience members before the feature presentation to take their kids outside if they are disruptive. That really didn't work when I saw Rio 2 there a couple of moths ago, but I didn't feel that I missed much during that showing. However, there will not be any babies in the theater since they do not allow toddlers 2 and under to attend PG-13 showings after 6 PM. It's also a theater that serves food while you are watching the film, so if there is someone being disruptive I will push the light for service and hopefully they can take care of it.

Screaming babies and talking kids everywhere. The one family behind me brought their entire family tree it seemed and the baby wouldn't shut up. One played on their phone the whole time.

Rating seemd to had been lowered from 15 to 11 here. Still no problems.
They honstly wanted to give it a 15 rating :teek: Thank god they got to their senses because if LotR can get 11 so can this.

When I went and saw this movie, there were a lot of kids there, but they were all quiet :D

Prob hitting an 11pm show tonight so not too worried now, hoping the child presence will be minimal.

Kids were talking all through it when I first saw it. It's rude, but it's also what kids do...

I saw it at 12pm yesterday, and a kid literally was doing this the whole movie
"MAMAMAMAMAMAMAMAMAMAMAAMAMAMAMAAMAMAMAAMAMAMAMA"

I'm more bothered by groups of teenagers at the cinema - both in the theatre and hanging around outside. To me, they really epitomize obnoxiousness, and they don't have the sense to back down if you say something to them.
At least with kids, you can avoid them by seeing a later showing (usually), but teens are around all the time - being loud, obnoxious and pimply. There's nothing more annoying than some little pube who isn't even old enough to shave, hanging out with the other pubescents in the car park acting as if he's tough.
Just makes you want to back your car over his head and hear it pop like a grape.
Yes, I had an interaction with obnoxious teens at the cinema last night - why do you ask?

11pm show was perfect time on a Sat. night, nice small audience. Heard one little kid a couple/few times during some quieter parts of the film but he either settled down at the more exciting part or was drowned out by the noise. A good number of teens but all were perfectly behaved thank goodness. :)

There was a kid who wouldn't shut up when I went to see the original TMNT in 1990. When it was time for "I love being a turtle", he stood up and shouted the line. I was an annoyed 12-year old.
Today, in TMNT 2014 (1:30 PM on a Saturday), there was a baby crying at one point for about 30 seconds, but other than that, no annoying talking kids.
I still don't understand why people take babies to movies. A couple had to leave Transformers 4 in my theater because their baby wouldn't stop crying. (They were actually lucky they got out of that one early).

I hope there are no annoying kids in the cam version I'll inevitably watch as I refuse to support this movie but am still intrigued at how badly they got it wrong.
