Minor spoilers ahead:
So those who are the movie said that no mention of Hamato Yoshi or Oroku Saki was made in the film. Shredder was never called Oroku Saki in the film (although its indeed him), and Splinter appears to have no connection to Hamato Yoshi.
Considering the backstory of the feudal Japan kappa, anyone else want to bet that Splinter and Shredder are reincarnated Yoshi and Saki from ancient Japan? They already adapted IDW's elements of Splinter/Turtles being in a lab and April knowing the Turtles before mutation, so why not go all the way?
I think the fact that:
- They reversed the decision to make the Turtles into aliens
- They reversed the decision to make Eric Sachs Shredder, and instead made Shredder Japanese
Shows the fact that heavy backlash does make a difference. I think a complaint now is the lack of Yoshi or Saki backstory in the film, something best served up for the sequel.
