Depends. Hopefully sooner rather than later but I wouldn't be at all suprised if a few years from now we see TMNT (2014) on those lists of movies so bad it killed the franchise.

No one will want to touch it now. Of course this weekend could be a crazy upset, but that's doubtful.
I think there are two possible outcomes:
1. Ciro gets his shot at a big screen version.
2. Disney see's an opening and buys Viacom.

This is what I'm afraid of. If this one doesn't generate enough box office to get a sequel then we might not see another live action TMNT movie....ever.

Noooo.. not that long. I don't want to be the nearly unmentionable age I will be. In that case I hope TMNT are portrayed as grown.
I dunno, I'd rather see new stories really rather than continuous reboots. If someone portrayed them 35-year-olds and told a story from that point in their lives, that would be cool.
2. Disney see's an opening and buys Viacom.
Please no, Disney, don't you dare. I like you (Tangled!), but no... (Blah what would happen to Nick programming at that point as it is.)

Why are we even having this discussion when the movie hasn't even been released yet. Why not give this reboot a shot before just casting it aside as trash. I don't think this fan base will ever be satisfied with anything they put on screen because all anyone seems to wanna do is bitch about everything they can think of.

Maybe just stay out of the thread if you don't like the topic?
There's plenty of fighting all over the board, and i'm as guilty as the next fan, but seriously, many have lost hope, and that's not going to change.
They soured the milk from the start, and they will not get a cent from me to perpetuate this mistake.
Also the RT meter keeps falling, so it's not just "cranky fans". Failure is inevitable.

That's the thing. The new TMNT "film" has go to hit this middle ground of box office where it's still proving itself to be a bit of a moneymaker, but not enough for them to want to do any kind of direct sequel to it. That's what I've got my fingers crossed on.
With a corporate property like TMNT is now, though (remember, there is no singular owner or owners or caretakers of any kind... just a board of executives, financiers and investors now), the odds that they would ever let a real filmmaker with a passion for the TMNT anywhere near it without a ton of red tape and sticky notes from Playmates and focus groups are slim to none.
Best hope apart from rolling the dice on what would emerge from another reboot at Paramount would be to hope the whole property changes hands again in the foreseeable future. You know, after Ciro's cartoon eventually fizzles and Viacom has made pretty much all the money there is to be made with "film" and toys. Disney would be interesting to see what they could do with the TMNT... particularly with the comics. Obviously the license would not be getting renewed with IDW and Marvel would likely be tasked with some manner of TMNT comics.

But I wonder, if the movies fail at the BO, but the show and the toys keep doing gang busters, what would be the incentive for them to sell TMNT?

Doubt that would be the case. TMNT is a massive money maker for Nick right now. Disney would just hand it down to Marvel, and we'd get something, er...interesting, to say the least.

A massive pay day. The cost of the Nick toon is very high per episode, in it's current form. If Disney acquires all of Nick, the CEO gets a massive payday.
Which is all that Jack-off cares about. He's been so brutal.

Why would that be?
Remember Disney did Tron. Wasn't a huge success, but still.
Disney isn't the 60's-90's disney anymore.
I'd bet if they did take over, Mirage is exactly what we'd get. as well as a version of the 2012 show, and maybe a relaunch of the OT... they do multiple versions of each property - just look at Avengers.
Sorry for the double post.

Like we shouldn't already kiss any hopes of that goodbye with Viacom? They won't even let the Turtles kill anybody in a comic for grown folks.
At least with Disney there's a remote chance the source material will interest them.

I'm just not too crazy about Disney getting their hands on it. I'd rather it be WB, who isn't afraid to get dark and edgy with their comic book movies. Darkest movie I have seen recently from Disney has been probably The Lone Ranger.

Let's put it this way, TMNT III came out in 1993 and it took until 2007 for a 4th TMNT movie. That was 14 years. 14 years.
If this movie bombs, expect to wait a decade or more.

Now that would make me very nervous. It's like, Disney is more consistently decent with their comic book movies... and while WB has produced a few comic book movies that are really, really good and hits a higher peak than the Disney ones, their output ratio of garbage is easily higher than Disney's.
To put another way, TMNT would be treated probably good to OK at Disney... and TMNT could either be treated REALLY GREAT at WB or REALLY SH*TTY, and as such I don't know if I'd want to roll the dice at WB.

Yeah, my cousin is a Batman fan, and she got all pissy with the comics when they killed off her favorite character. But I don't know if that's WB's doing, or just the DC branch.
I guess Disney is their best bet. But it's just, except for a few of the Marvel flicks, most of their movies tend to be underwhelming to me.

Don't see the big deal about Disney buys TMNT. In fact it would make the franchise more well known. I mean think of all the good Disney can do with this franchise. I say I t were a try TMNT fan than you would be thrilled o the prospect. Best thing to really happen for the Turtles. But alas people think they would ruin the franchise like they think they do to other franchises like Marvel or Star Wars. Sigh.

The batting average at WB has been really low as of late.
They would also, DEFINITELY Change the origin story, and cast improperly.
Look at what happened to Superman. Batflek. The "new 52".

Sure, why not? Mirage isn't really inherently "dark," though. I don't know why people equate "a dark TMNT movie" with "like the Mirage TMNT." The biggest thing separating "the Mirage" TMNT" from everything else is not "darkness," just the absence of any kind of reliance on camp, toys, and nonsense. And yeah, they actually use their weapons and kill the bad guys once in a while.

They did bad things with Star Wars. They took the Clone Wars cartoon off the air and essentially declared 30+ years of Star Wars EU non-canon, I'd be horrified if they got ahold of TMNT.
I used to like Disney, but lately they've started showing signs of becoming a monopoly and I'm wondering if they aren't due for a government break-up soon. Once they get to be a certain size they tend to metastasize to other unrelated areas, so I think it's inevitable.

And thank God for that. The EU, once upon a time exciting and sweeping, had long become an incomprehensible ocean of a mess.
Though I don't know why you'd blame Disney for that. When Lucas sold the rights to Disney he contractually obligated Disney to use his story outlines for Episodes 7-9... and that's what they're going off of. Because they have to. And the outlines thankfully trampled all over the EU.
I know that the SW fans lost their "cool" hats when they found out that they didn't secretly guess correctly that Grand Admiral Thrawn and Mara Jade would be in Episodes 7-9, but I don't really see how anyone of sound mind could have expected that anyway. George Lucas wrote the stories for 7-9... and he's made no bones about not reading any EU stuff.

I think when people hear Disney they think princesses castles and Faries...but as someone said this isnt the Disney of the 90s....they are smart...Disney knows what and where to put their name
if Disney bought TMNT it would most likely be through Marvel..and call it a day
not both WB and Disney have their flaws..Wb's track record of Hero movies isn't really well recived outside nocturnal flying Mammal man and the whole watchman fiasco
Disney until recently really didnt know how to handle a Kids action show..before the whole Marvel buy out they handled power ranger very poorly
but they learned, look at movies Like Wreck it Ralph and Pirates and see where they learned how to make an Action for all ages to enjoy with the Disney name..then look how they allowed Marvel to flourish on its own

Something much less than Transformers, basically. Those movies are critic-proof because they're box office juggernauts. Even though critics loathe them and even large portions of the audience hate them, for some reason they keep rolling in truckloads of cash. Something that's controversial and and a middling-at-best success is another story entirely. If TMNT fails to or barely makes a profit, that might be enough for Paramount to blink.

Next reboot? Hm, diffucult question to answer. The main reasons Sony and Fox had for rebooting Spider-Man and Fantastic Four before ten years had past since the last movie, was that the rights to the characters would revert to Disney if they didn't make a new movie. Under normal circumstances it can take twenty years for a reboot to happen, although the rights to make Batman movies will most likely always belong to WB and Batman V Superman will hit only four years after Dark Knight Rises, Man of Steel hit only hit seven years after Superman Returns.
So yes a difficult question indeed. Paramount will likely have the rights to make TMNT movies for a long time to come so they won't make TMNT movie just to make sure they keep those rights, that's about all I'm sure of. A reboot could really happen any where between 2021 and never when you think about it, it's too hard to tell .
