View Full Version : Who Should Acquire TMNT?

After some ruminating in a pervious thread(s), it's clear lot's of us are craving a Mirage era TMNT, written for Adults. It's also looking as though the PD film isn't going to do the kind of business that they were hoping for.

So, here's a Poll:

Who would you want to take over the Franchise?

*Edit, If i've left anything off (AMC, SHOWTIME, etc)... leave it in the comments. I didn't realize you can't edit a poll, which in hindsight makes sense :).

I think Fox is the most likely to make a Mirage era TMNT tbh.

There is a lot of things fans wan in a movie or in the series. The most obvious purchase is from Disney. If not Disney then Viacom is going to keep it. But really there is a lot people want and what they get. Food for thought for you uneducated people whothink otherwise.

Viacom is doing fine and the money keeps rolling in, and I like to keep it at that.

But if for the sake of a "what if" situation, I'll go with Disney.

Are you suggesting a live action tv show w/ HBO, Netflix, and Fx?!

If they were weaved into the Marvel Universe then everyone who hates it right now would probably just automatically love it. But they also are scared to pull off a Daredevil reboot (in the movies), so why would they do a Turtles Movie?

Fox won't do a Deadpool movie, but I guess if they did a Turtles movie in the same tone as The Wolverine it would be amazing...

Unfortunately if this bombs badly, we won't see another Turtles movie for a LONG time.

Megan Fox seems to be pretty sure they're is going to be a sequel though.

With scripted series doing so well right now, Could be movie, could be series.
It's more of a "who would do it best" scenario, based on what you know of each.

I feel bad I didn't include AMC...breaking ...bad? (wakka wakka?)

Megan hopes they do a sequel. PD is pretty risk averse, and haven't done any sequels to their "re-imaginings". Fox is just really hoping to work again.

I posited a possible Disney acquisition in another thread, and it just kind of went from there.

There is no way that Nickelodeon is going to give up TMNT, when the TV show is doing extremely well, But if the TMNT rights were to go to another studio. I would say with Marvel, Imagine a TMNT crossover with Marvel characters, Perhaps with Daredevil?

So did Kevin Monroe after the OW for the 2007 TMNT was a semi hit. Then shortly after that, the sequel, along with the CG company that made the movie, all went into the garbage can.

But then, strangers things have happened. Despite not so great BO results, KickAss and Fantastic Four were given sequels, after stellar DVD sales.

Community's on Yahoo! Screen now, actually, not Netflix. But point made - Netflix is on fire. And let's not forget the Netflix original Marvel series coming soon.

Anyway. I voted Disney/Marvel. I'm very happy with the Nick cartoon and the IDW comic right now, but if I trust any of the companies listed to do the TMNT "right" in movies, it's them. Disney's actually been pretty hands-off with their recent acquisitions, letting them do what they do best instead of trying to make them fit the usual Disney formula, and it's really paid off for them. Today's Disney isn't the Disney I grew up with. And Marvel's track record at the movies speaks for itself, so putting TMNT under their umbrella (though not in their overall universe) would give me a lot of faith.

Well, in the end then, what makes Marvel so lucrative, it's because they are being run and operated by people who know the comics and love them, like Kevin Fiege and Joss Whedon.

I have no idea what to expect with Star Wars, but with J.J. Abrahms at the helm, I have faith. The guy made a great Star Trek, has a love for sci.fi and film in general.

Do the TMNT have any film makers that are known TMNT fans in the same frame of thought that Kevin Fiege and J.J. Abrahms are?

It would open up a ton of possibilities. I do have love for the Nick Gang though. Some of the idea's Ciro et al. have brought tho the table are fantastic.

Yeah, but i was speaking to the integration of many universes into one. I don't dig the designs of the turtles themselves, or April for that matter, BUT the story telling is pretty great. He borrows from genres the same way that Laird did once upon a time, and the pacing of action sequences, The tiger claw episode for example...has a flare to it you don't often see in a "kids" cartoon.

Whether you like it or not TMNT is now a "kid's show" and TMNT would profit more if it stays like that. Hell its the reason why TMNT is profitable. I don't mind. Let TMNT be passed down to new generations rather than an Adult show where it suits only adults.

The Nick show would be Canceled..unless Disney and Nick came to some sort of agreement ala Marvel Islands of adventure

I think when people hear Disney they think princesses castles and Faries...but as someone said this isnt the Disney of the 90s....they are smart...Disney knows what and where to put their name

dont get me wrong i a Disnerd, but they also wouldnt let a competitor air a show to a franchise they owned without some sorta of back pay

if Disney bought TMNT it would most likely be through Marvel..and call it a day

now both WB and Disney have their flaws..Wb's track record of Hero movies isn't really well received outside nocturnal flying Mammal man and the whole watchman fiasco

Disney until recently really didnt know how to handle a Kids action show..before the whole Marvel buy out they handled power ranger very poorly

but they learned, look at movies Like Wreck it Ralph and Pirates and see where they learned how to make an Action for all ages to enjoy with the Disney name..then look how they allowed Marvel to flourish on its own

I don't think it would work though. To me I think it would be worse than this movie an the movie has gotten a lot of backlash. I don't think the odds would justify the means. Besides there is a lot of good Adult content out there that the Turtles don't have to be a part of. Let TMNT be just for kids. This movie should suffice for Adults. I don't really think there is a demand for an Adult Version of TMNT to begin with. And if you disagree with how I think TMNT should really be just for Kids and when I mean that I mean the content not as a show than maybe you should make a poll about it.

I'm not a fan of Marvel/Disney but if they got the rights I can guarantee it will be more kid friendly than Nick....and God forbid sugary....

I think WB would be best, they have DC, Mortal Kombat, Looney Tunes, etc...just more adult friendly and edgier stuff that can still appeal to kids. They'd fit right in with WB. They wouldn't be muzzled and they would be allowed to explore darker themes and possibilities in a more adult way....Young Justice was able to do it, why not Ninja Turtles?

This. Even if many of us would vary in just how to do that so there still might need to be a variety. :)

And if you disagree with how I think TMNT should really be just for Kids and when I mean that I mean the content not as a show than maybe you should make a poll about it.
Honestly the fact that society seems to maintain a "just for kids" view of the Turtles makes me sad. Other generations superheros were not socially decided to have to remain in the kids department; a lifelong 70-year-old Superman fan would not be judged for still being a fan and have their favored hero considered just for kids. I have no issue sharing the Turtles, whom were born into my generation, with all the younger generations behind us, just as the original generations of Superman, etc share with all of us... But that my generation (and the young adults right behind us) should have to just hand over the keys to our special hero guys rather than unlocking the door and share the ride... :tsad:

I don't really think there is a demand for an Adult Version of TMNT to begin with.
Honestly at this point while I get better used to this new movie version they could just go along with something like that and keep their age rather nonspecific other than they're considered grown, that would be enough for me. There's no reason they can't still be goofy and loveable at times even if grown, plenty of adults are.

Right? Also, so there's no confusion, Which, maybe there was, I'd meant that the adult TMNT would be a tonal shift, not necessarily an age change.

Which, when I saw the trailer for the new Mad Max: Fury Road, All I could think was, - that's it...that's the raw, aggressive feeling of adventure missing from TMNT these days. If you ever played the games, you know what I'm talking about. There's an epicness, not in the Internet sense of the word, where it's lost all meaning, but in the true sense, when it's used to depict the vastness of a really great adventure story. If you've never played the game, it's really hard to explain.

No good ahead. Enlighten us how your version of TMNT is supposed to be the the "True" Version of .

Says "The one True Shredder".

Coming from a Troll who hates 2012 TMNT, your words mean nothing.

You are only just assuming that I hate 2012 TMNT. Maybe just maybe people actually like 2k3 better than 2012 show. Key word here is better. I like both shows only I prefer 2k3. Is that Trolling now? And I merely wanted you to back up your claims of what you just said Please enlighten us. .

You closed a thread with your comment about the Nick series. What else was I supposed to think? Something about a dogs butt wasn't it?

It's difficult to know if you're serious or not the way you post.

I see my reputation preceeds myself. And no it wasn't for the 2012 show it was for the movie. After all this is the movie thread btw.

I don't see anything that says that.

I wonder though, wouldn't the original version be the "true" versiono of something? Maybe not, now that I think about it.

edit: forgot about the topic. I think HBO could pull of a good one, Netflix too. FX possibly could do something, I mean they have Sons. AMC has Walking Dead, so they could work too.

Okay then, sorry, I somehow read 2012. Honest mistake. With all the arguing around here...

I've already written a what if scenario over on this thread. if you're genuinely interested, take a look:

More here:

And some other posts about what makes the Turtles interesting, and not just cardboard "heroes". Frankly, I'd rather engage in these sorts of discussions, TBO.
