To those who've seen this film already, what's your personal rating for the film? I haven't seen the film yet but I'm just curious on how does the majority of the forum feel about this film.

For comparison, it's currently 4.2 on rotten tomatoes.

A POSITIVE 6! Not quite a 7, more like a 6.5 for me, maybe 7 upon rewatching, but 6.5 for now!

for perspective…

TMNT (90) - 9.95
TMNT2 - 5.5
TMNT3 - 2.5
TMNT (07) - 5

Happy with the film!

I've seen the movie twice, now, and I'm still kind of reeling from how good it was. I went to my second showing, expecting to leave thinking worse of the movie. I felt like I liked it too much, that my fanboyishness must be clouding my judgement. But I didn't feel any different. I literally can't come to grips with how much I love this movie. I'm seeing it again, this weekend. So I'll rate it afterwards. Maybe I'll come to my senses, by then.

Good grief. The only film I've ever seen that much in a single weekend was Fellowship of the Ring, and that wasn't 100% MY doing.

I gave it a 7. I think I may say 7.5, but I tend to rate movies high and 9 and 10's go down as my favourites.

This movie was very fun to watch; it had amazing energy and I feel it really captured the fun and spirit of the original cartoon series.

I feel that the pacing of the movie was just a bullet train and as such I never really felt the emotion connection being formed. Raph had a nice moment in the film sharing his feelings but it ultimately felt a bit flat or just for humour because what he was saying really wasn't demonstrated in the film. I felt like the tension around Splinter was washed, like we really never experienced the worry and anger that splinter was on deaths door. I'd say I felt that Splinters knowledge of shredder seems like a taken for granted aspect as well, why tell us when you could have shown us.

There is more examples to cite but in short I really feel despite the movie being just an awesome ride and so much fun it lacked the heart and soul that the first film really captured which for me really makes a wonderful story. I really wish we got to see a wider range of emotion and passion in the story.

Michael Bay and company does fun very well but dramatic tension and the soul of a story is something they gloss over. Nevertheless, I am still happy it turned out as good as it did. It could have gone worse.

I'll do this as well.

What did I do?

I would give the 90 TMNT a 10 but I could never get over at the end when Shredder throws the knife, Splinter catches it, then some how he's still holding onto the chucks with both hands and lets go, then Shredder falls...it's sloppy editing.

It is amazing how that happens. I remember when the 2007 movie came out I was obsessed w/ the rooftop fight scene between Leo and Raph. Thought it looked amazing...watched it the other day and kind of felt like it looked pretty bad...in 2007 I might have given it an 8 or 9. Also the whole monsters thing has worn on me a little, I don't like it anymore, I think I was just stoked for a TMNT movie so I overlooked the monsters. They could have had Karai and Beebop and Rocksteady instead.

And the 9.95 thing, I can't take credit for that, Shadowsculptor did it first.

Don't want this to turn into a major discussion, but, I want to like TMNT III, I've only seen it 3 times. Can someone just tell me what is good about it? I tried to watch it the other day and I couldn't make it past the first 20 minutes.

I was born in 1993 and grew up during the ass end of the original turtles popularity. Getting to see a TMNT movie on the big screen was great, and the fact that it was actually good was a bonus. Wasn't a fan of TMNT 07 and I honestly can't remember if I saw it in theaters or not. This one will stick with me

The 07 IS getting harder to watch. I rewatched it earlier tonight before seeing the new film, and it was terrible. I remembered it begin awesome, but not so much now. Thus the 5 haha.

Good grief. The only film I've ever seen that much in a single weekend was Fellowship of the Ring, and that wasn't 100% MY doing. It's not too crazy, for me. I saw Winter Soldier two days in a row. I see a lot of movies twice, usually to go with different people. And anything I'm excited about, I see the earliest showing possible, even when my friends can't make it. But I'll still go with them. The most I've ever seen a movie in theaters was the first Spider-Man film. I saw that four times.

But, in this case, I got passes to a free showing Wednesday night. It was in 3D, though, and I really didn't care to see it in 3D. But I did it because it was a day earlier than Thursday. But the 3D looked awful. The aforementioned friends who I don't wait for are probably going tonight, but I knew nothing I could say would talk them out of seeing it in 3D. So, I went last night to see it in 2D, which looks worlds better. The visuals in this movie don't deserve dark, blurry 3D.

:D
yea I did....once at 8 and then again at the midnight showing. And like I told puddin, the first time I seen it I wasnt sure how I felt about it as any long time fan has certain things they would like to see or or their own expectaions out of a tmnt movie. This movie was just so fast. It seriously felt like a 45 minute tv show, it was over so quick. So theres that and seriously, the previews for this movie really mixed up how this movie actually played out. Its like I watched the previews for this movie so much that I thought that was how it was going to be in the movie and in the movie it was way different, if that makes any sense. And there was so much ive seen that didnt make the final cut and it left me wondering why certain things were left out. So again with my expectations, out of 10, being on an unfair 18, lol, it left me not knowing how I felt about it. However, the second time in, thinking I was gonna eat my words after all this time, and I gladly would have if I honestly didnt like it, but.....I got to watch it for what it was, Instead of what I expected it to be, and I must say....this movie is awesome. I really dont know what happened from the first to second time I seen it but whatever it was im glad I decided to watch it again because I was ready to come home and hate on this movie, but I cant. It was seriously awesome and the second best film in the franchise. April really surprised me as megan fox really put effort forth in this movie and it paid off for her, will arnett was great, william fitchner was great, the turtles were spot on, the action was top notch and the plot wasnt as shallow as everyone is making it out to be. If anything it sets a great foundation for an epic series making sure they dont shut any doors on what they could do with it in later films. If I have one complaint it would have to be the look of splinter. All I kept thinking was, why in the world didnt they go with their original concept they showed in the definitive history, that would had made the look of this movie flow just a little bit better, imho....but other then his looks his voice took some getting used to but in the end actually thought it worked really well and fit as it should. I will be going to see this movie again today with the kidos and again saturday with some friends. For me I would have to give this movie a 8.5. Well worth the wait and exited for where they can take their vision of this franchise:D

Yeah some kids movies back 20-30 years ago had a lot of heart and thought put into them nowadays it just seems like these movies are just cash grabs and big toy commercials.

I enjoyed the film for what it was but felt that it could have been 25 mins longer and used that time build up the story more.

I will be honesty the origin killed it the most for me. I think I like the new movie better than the 1990 movie too. I feel guilty for it, but in all honesty even as a kid I thought the first movie was kind of boring. I feel like the new one was non-stop action with some great moments that emphasized the family aspect of TMNT, and the Turtles look so real it's hard for me to go back and watch the muppet versions

The origin story in the first movie was so ****ing dumb. I know it's based on the comics but having splinter as a regular, non mutated rat, learn ninjitsu by watching his owner was so insultingly stupid. Even as an eight year old I remember thinking that the cartoon explanation of splinter being human at one point made a lot more sense.

My ratings: (based on how much I enjoyed them, not based on a critical analysis)

TMNT 1990: 6/10
TMNT II: 7/10
TMNT III: 1/10
TMNT 2007: 3/10
TMNT 2014: 8/10

The more I think about the new vs. the old the more I like the new one. Everytime I rewatch TMNT 1990 its harder and harder for me to sit through it. I was so underwhelmed by the 07 movie that despite having been a huge turtle fan at the time I have no recollection of seeing it in theaters.

The new movie had moments that surpassed the excitement of the old. When Shredder kicks splinters ass then picks him up like a limp ragdoll It felt very real. The whole thing played out like a big cartoon with some serious/darker moments

Low. The movie just didn't feel right to me. Fox was so bland. Arnett wasn't even that funny. Shredder had a lot of potential but they went overboard with his suit and his Jason Voorhees groans. Pretty disappointed but, life goes on. Positives were the Turts looked great. The CGI was wonderful. Splinter was a complete monster, which was cool. I wish they spent more time developing the characters like they so masterfully did in the original. This just seemed a bit choppy pace wise and a lot of mediocre dialogue. Maybe I'll check it out again, but I'm feeling a little disappointed.

I just saw it again. I think the complaints of no development of characters and length of movie should be one complaint. The movie is limited by how long it is. I think they shot a ton of stuff for this movie and for whatever reason they felt it had to be short. Length is also my main problem with the first movie. I wish someone would make a Dark Knight Rises type of long movie.

I really liked this movie, but I really hope they get a better director for the sequel. I was actually surprised by Battle Los Angeles and remember enjoying Darkness Falls in theater (but watched it a few years later and thought it sucked). Wrath of the Titans is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

I just hope they find a legit director who can bring his own screenwriter on with him/her and make something incredible.

4/10, and it pains me to say that. This was my most anticipated film of the summer by far, and the trailers/marketing really sold me. I was sure I would enjoy it at least a little.

Not so. *minor spoilers ahead. Also, I'll probably write too much.*

Most of the film was a bore. The plot felt like 70% setup. Turtles took too long to properly enter the story. When they did, they quickly became underused and underdeveloped. The film barely explored their dynamics, flaws and character traits at all. When Raph said his emotional speech at the end, it came out of nowhere. There was nothing building up to it. All we saw was him briefly squabbling with Leo once or twice. Ditto for Splinter's speech. The Raph disguise scene was cut. The turtle van only showed up at the very end, and blowing up Vern's car wasn't very funny, just depressing.

The revamped origin story was made needlessly complicated. So much time was spent fleshing out and explaining the uninteresting origin and villain plans that there were points where my eyes glazed over. Characters spewed clumsily written exposition dumps left and right. It was really obvious that Sachs was originally meant to be Shredder and Oroku Saki was lazily crammed in via reshoots. Karai was completely wasted. Splinter was too, and felt unlikable when he demanded they hunt down April. So many scenes/elements were ripped from Amazing Spider-Man. The ending tower fight, the whole scientist origin angle, etc.

The cinematography was beyond bland. The sets and locales felt colorless and dull. Every time we saw the sewers or turtles lair, I felt depressed for some reason, and not in any good way. Something about the way it was shot or lit, I guess. The score felt like it was ripped straight from another movie.

I will say a few good things. Some of the humor worked well ('adrenaline' and elevator beatboxing in particular), even if Mikey's flirtations grew a bit tiresome and creepy by film's end. The turtles are voiced and animated well, though they have little to do. Megan Fox was surprisingly tolerable. Some cute references, like the blink-and-you'll-miss-it Baxter Stockman appearance. And the action, what little there was of it, was visually interesting. Though it was pretty tensionless a lot of the time.

Yup, I wrote too much. Anyhow, it was simply missing the fun I expect from a movie like this. It barely felt like a TMNT movie at all, seeing as the Foot Clan weren't ninjas and the Turtles felt like they were barely in it. Simply a clunkily written, bland bore of a film. A crushing disappointment for me, but if some of you guys like it, good for you. I'm glad somebody enjoyed it.

I still hope it does reasonably well so that we may get a better sequel, or a soft reboot akin to G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

I gave the movie a weak 6.

Pros- The Turtles personalities and voice work was great. And that alone I give them props, but due to the movie being just bogged down by BS, and I left a little underwhelmed, I gave it the 6.

Compared to the other movies.
1990- 9/10 (if they had included more Mikey and Donny scenes from the farm, and more fight scenes at the end of the movie, I would have given it a perfect 10, but the lack of Mikey and Don during the farm irked me.
SOTO-6/10 I liked the Turtles and Keno in this, hate that the soccer moms pushed the studio execs to wave the surrender flag. Because of this, the Turtles backed down the path for the kids, and would never truly get out of this sh!t hole.
Turtles 3- 5/10 I liked that Mikey finally got some character development in this, Raph had a sweet moment, but the costumes and the waste of Casey Jones was just horrible to me. And the villain sucked.
Turtles 2007- 7/10. The Nightwatcher was one of the best things about this, and I really loved Raph's voice in this, my second favorite behind Josh. But, Leo was a dick, Mikey a doofus and both he and Donny were totally sidelined. The whole monster thing also was lame. It should have been about the City at War arc.
Turtles4Ever-7/10 I watched this a few days ago, and it just put a big stupid smile on my face. I just couldn't get past the fact that the 80''s boys were being made fun of, despite the 80's cartoon Mikey beating 2k3 Mikey in every fight.
2014-The Turtles voices and personalities were great, the plot that was smothered by BS was interesting, and some other stuff like April owning the Turtles was good, but everything else was just a hot mess. I just can't get past the Turtles awful designs and the horrible shaky cam. What was the point of hiring these world class Ninja Masters to do the stunt work, if they are just going to be hidden by shaky cam?

I enjoyed it. It was an action-packed, funny, and entertaining popcorn flick. The only problem was that the first 10 minutes or so were kind of dull. It's really a 7.5 or an 8 out of 10 for me.

Finally saw it. I thought it was pretty awful. There were moments of potential, some cool action… but overall, it was a stinker in my mind. Tis a shame, so much more could have been done with the license and the technology.

I'm going right in the middle with a 5. I liked the personalities of the Turtles and Splinter, the voice acting (sans Splinter) was really solid, and there were some fun action scenes.

That being said, it just felt so soulless. It felt like a Turtles movie made by people who know the basic concept of the franchise, but don't actually KNOW the franchise. There are common threads in every single version of TMNT despite their many differences, and this movie omitted several of them. I just didn't enjoy it, nor did I hate it. It was just sort of... there for an hour and a half.

:D
yea I did....once at 8 and then again at the midnight showing. Well worth the wait and exited for where they can take their vision of this franchise:DReading reviews like this is truly heart warming and a treat. :tlove: Glad you're enjoying it.

I plan to bring my family to view this. It'll be my fourth time watching it then. Ah, bless. I could go for more than that, we'll see.

This movie brings joy and wonders to me.

This is my general consensus of this movie. Didn't hate it, didn't love it or liked it, and except for some scenes concerning the Turtles, it just didn't spark much interest in me. Even when Raph was getting beat up by Shredder or Splinter nearly dying, I didn't feel anything. (I was actually horrified when Raph got beat in the 1990 movie)

I give it a 7/10

I enjoyed the movie overall in terms of the characters. I liked their personalities alot so watching them was enjoyable. That's pretty much what saved it for me. The changes really bothered me. Don't get me wrong I am very open to new ideas. I love almost every version of TMNT. The 90's films are what I grew up with so it's normal that those are my favorite, but I am still open. For some reason however, the changes here really left me un easy. Like previous people wrote, I wasn't as emotionally invested.

I'll have to see it again before I can really say more. Overall I can't say I disliked it. Just didn't LOVE it.

Seems like there is such a dislike for the 3rd 90's film. Anyone care to explain there view on why?

Good to see some actual level-headed critiques here instead of the typical, vague "WORSTEDEST MUVI EVA CHILD RUINEDZ" comments running rapid in the review section.

8.0/10, even though it had plenty of issues, great movie overall.

Loved it! More importantly my son loved it. Rated an 8. A few plot holes aside (how did the turtles get the mutagen for Splinter??) it was FAR better than the critic reviews would lead you to believe. That may actually help the box office. Word of mouth will be pretty solid. Loved seeing kids dressed up!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990): 8.5/10
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II - The Secret of the Ooze: 6/10
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: 5/10
TMNT: 7.5/10
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014): 6.5/10

this was better than anticipated but didn't knock my socks off. was wishing there was more story/background to really ground the characters. movie felt too rushed. it was a good time and will see again just to enjoy the opportunity to see turtles on the big screen. average movie though. hoping for better sequel. learn what was done right in this one and correct the wrongs next time.

TMNT is cooler than MOTU

2/10 for me. They get brownie points for the Turtles having decent personalities and the quality of (most) of the CGI. But I can't really say I liked any other aspects of the movie other than that.
