...which is unfortunate because I enjoyed the f**k out of this movie. And that's coming from someone who also watched "Guardian of the Galaxy" less than 12 hours before the Turtles.
So, carry on guys. I won't be back here for a while.

You liked a movie that some people don't like. That's all there is to it. You need to rethink things if differing opinions are leaving you depressed.

This is hyperbole, but what you're basically saying is that if Jews and Islamic folks blowing each other up is bumming me out, then there's something wrong with me.
I loved the movie and half the comments I've been reading are from people who DIDN'T watch the movie...but are being spurned by others who have and didn't like it as much as I did. These same people are like "Yeah, yeah, see? I KNEW it was sh**ty! Glad I didn't waste MY ten bucks."

People will have differing opinions. And this is the internet, so those differing opinions will be especially aggressive.
As someone that objects to the movie and despises it, I'd just like to tell you to not let opinions like mine get to you. I don't let opinions I disagree with upset me. We're not out to make YOU upset personally for liking the movie. If you like it, that's legitimately great and on some level I envy you for that.

That really is a tragic thing that's happening. This is a movie. A fictional, moving-picture.

No, you're completely right. But I respect YOUR opinion because you watched it and judged it for yourself. And that's all I'm saying: we, as fans, should at the very least give it a shot.

Again, it's hyperbole. But the simile still rings true: there are beliefs I cannot control, but depress me to witness.

I plan to see it at some point because it's TMNT, but I'm not going to financially support this version of the turtles because I honestly think this looks like a train wreck of a film. (It's pretty much been stated to go in and shut your brain if you want to enjoy it)

Yeah, I honestly haven't gone to see it -- I've just spent a lot of time lurking. After all, my post used the specific phrase "I object to the movie" for that reason -- I do object to it, but that doesn't mean I won't see it eventually anyway.

Don't want to financially support it? Then steal it! F**k Bay and PD and torrent it on Monday! But at the very least, watch it for yourself before making a decision, as informed as it may be.

Well, after you do, fair is fair. I will tell you this, and this is the most honest assessment of the film I can give you: there will be moments you like, moments you love, and moments that will piss you off...but in the end, you'll be happy that you get to hang out with the Boys again.

What I find funny is that a lot of people actively watch the Nickelodeon children's cartoon then attack the movie for being unrealistic and cartoonish. How are some able to enjoy children's programming yet tear the new movie apart?

One's a cartoon and one is film that the filmmakers themselves have said is "realistic"

A movie about 4 ninja turtles will never, ever, be realistic

Because the show has better writing, better directing, better characters and also makes sense and is fairly consistent within its own "world". It's a better product and a better story.

The cartoon is marketed towards children. We expect childishness.
The movie is rated PG-13.

Its a children show for children. Not attacking fans of the cartoon but jesus christ if you can watch that **** you should be able to enjoy the new movie
Better direction and writing? Its a kids cartoon made to sell toys...

And yet its writing is far superior and mostly holds together while the movie's was terrible and ridden with inconsistencies and really basic plot holes.
Just because something's made for children doesn't mean it can't be enjoyed by adults, or that it can't be written well from objective storytelling standards. Not all children's stories are created equal.
Besides, even movies for kids should be well-written. There's no excuses there.

You expect too much from a movie based on fighting talking turtles; stick to your kids show

I'm sorry it bothers you that I expect movies to be written well. I guess I'll stuck to the cartoon show about ninja turtles and the movie about a talking racoon and a tree man that managed to pull that off.

Ooh, so dismissive!
You're right, though. Their demographic is everybody, kids and adults alike, cartoon-watching or not. And they've managed to appeal to them all very well with a quality product they can all enjoy.
And they do that by taking care to write and produce them really really well.

From all the reviews that have come out, they really didn't know who their audience was. Let's not forget that the franchise is 30 years old and the phenomenon was at it's absolute height 25 years ago. They obviously wanted to capture that demographic with all the OT references and inspired decisions.

It's kind of all bumming me out too. I don't like the Nick cartoon at all--in fact I'd say it's very sloppily written with little care for its ongoing plots. It does seem weird to me that everyone loves it and not the movie. I haven't seen the movie yet though so we'll see.

Actually, I think people are responding pretty well. Sure there's a lot of people who don't like it and a lot who do....but there aren't a ton of flame posts raging against it for unreasonable things.
I've mostly just seen people argue their points to each other rather calmly.
How is that depressing?

It's just part of how a lot of fannish internet discussion goes. Fans tend to get a bit more worked up than a lot of other people as it is, but add the internet to it, and you've got the GIFT (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GIFT) in full-force.

Seriously if I hear one more person say that I'm expecting too much from a movie with 4 talking turtles I'm going to lose my mind. Do you really like TMNT? Because honestly, dismissing the turtles like that makes me think that you don't care what they do with them. You should look back at all the incredible art, stories, etc. that has been done with them.

Why do ppl insist on starting a whole new thread to express one damn thought that easily fits into already existing threads?
While I agree with the OP that this place has become a bit depressing with all the fighting, if you really wanted to step back from it all, there wasn't a need to draw so much attention to yourself as you walked away.

That's really unfortunate. You're not the only one either my friend. It's a given that some aren't going to like what they see but.. last night with a few posters it was obviously an attempt to create paranoia. Go see it again anyway lol. It's even better the second time around.

Hearing all the mixed reviews, I still wondering if I'll enjoy this movie or not. It's pretty much the same problems I had with GOTG, but then again I really love the nick show for the turtles, because I find the plots on the show poorly written.

i'm hopefully seeing it today and i'm proooobably going to have big issues with it based on the early responses... i'm not pre-judging it but, i am usually right about this feeling.
my biggest fear? that i end up strongly disliking the film and yet it makes TONS of money (so lots of 'bad' sequels)

Why allow the opinions of strangers make you depressed...
Humankind has always disagreed on most everything, why else are there numerous cultures, separate countries, many religions, lifestyles, clothing styles, career choices, etc etc to infinity.
I mean with TMNT, it's like we're all, say, cat people. Every cat fan may love cats, but not everyone likes the same breeds or prefers black cats over orange.

No, what he is basically saying is that this are not opinions about a real life situation where death is involved, it's a view on a freaking movie. It shouldn't have that much of an effect.

My thoughts exactly. Never thought I'd find myself rooting *against* a Turtles movie, but that's exactly what I'm doing. I hope Guardians of the Galaxy (which was great) beats it this weekend.
