View Full Version : Should we get a "Director's Cut" of the original version in the Bluray?

Why not, right? Let's see how this Alien Turtles thing might have been before it was turned to what we got. Maybe that would have been a better movie..... who knows? And with the Nick show having all those extra dimensions they could've added an after credit scene that included the Nick Turtles making fun of the look of the alien turtles.

I have a feeling they shot 2 movies worth of material. It would be nice to see a version of the film before they caved to fans and changed stuff up at the last minute

I would love a directors cut, but would it make sense w/ all the CGI they'd have to animate to make one? Unless they actually animated it all, and just cut it. Oh please let there be a Directors Cut.
Hey I have an idea...Brad Fuller usually replies to questions if you ask him, he's one of the Producers...maybe if enough of us tweet him asking for a directors cut we'll get an answer? His twitter handle is @bcfuller

I haven't seen it yet (stupid October release :x ) so I can only base this on what I've read about it. From what I can tell part of the reason for the bad reviews is that a 2 hour plot has been butchered into a 90 minute cut, stripping the film of plot and character development. As such, an extended Director's Cut would maybe give us the film we want, or at least improve upon the messy, incoherent plot and provide ample background to big, emotional speeches in the finale etc.
So, yes, I hope we do get one.
However, whether we get one or not is likely to come down to how much progress they made on the CGI in the cut scenes. The film would have to do extremely well at the box office to warrant full CGI treatment or even full rendering of rough footage.
So... Even if I hate the film I will probably see it several times to do my bit for the box office results. This is where appealing to the general populous will work to the film's advantage. I just hope the producers / distributors recognise that a large % of their 'customers' are adults who care about quality, not just chaotic action sequences, toppling buildings and loud bangs.

I will argue to the death the plot is not incoherent. Instead of it being A to B to C to D it's more like A to D. It just moves very fast, and relies on the Turtles interactions to develop their characters. But you get zero motivation behind Shredder and Sacks. I have no clue why they are so angry lol.

Shredder and Sachs are misanthropes, for unknown reasons they think everyone else is beneath them, they see them selves as above them imo. I think villains like that are interesting, being against people that actually didn't wrong them. Good people. Great people. Actually I just think that they think that most of humanity besides them and the foot are really bad for a number of unknown reasons.

Glad to hear it. And if we got a Director's Cut to flesh out B & C on DVD or Blu Ray I could happily forgive an A-D theatrical release. Here's hoping.....

The Thing is if even if they produce a Director's Cut and if its fleshed out people are not going to buy the version of movie. If they disliked the Theatre Version than I don't see how making a Director's Cut is going to make it better. Face itthey messd up.

My theory for why so much material seems to have been cut is that when they made the huge change to the story by casting an asian to play shredder and removing the sachs = april's dad & shredder stuff, they simply could not use it. Would have required more extensive reshoots and they decided it was not worth the extra cost.
Even the Raph in disguise stuff... for all we know they could be talking about april's dad the entire scene and they were forced to leave it on the cutting room floor.

Thing is, you usually get director's cuts in films where there's been scenes cut or shortened. In this case, a director's cut would involve massive plot restructuring, and would probably depend on footage that hit the cutting floor early enough to remain unfinished just to make any sort of sense.
I would count on deleted scenes, but not a director's cut.

A director's cut when Liebesmen is the director? Haha. That was a good one.

Haha agreed. Liebesman is a joke. He shouldn't be allowed to direct.

He's worse than Ratner. At least Ratner's films can be competent sometimes by accident.

These rarely receive a directors cut, plus lieberman isn't as a prolific director as others to warrant one.

Blu-Rays usually don't include entire deleted sub plots. This won't include any of the Sach's as Shredder stuff. Guarantee it.

It's just sad we got some more Turtle screen time axed, with Raph walking around Time Square. And what about when Splinter was handing out the weapons, we only saw him hand out Leo's weapon, they would have the other three, no?

Seriously, why did Jonathan Liebesman want to keep the film under 100 minutes? Was he trying to make the movie terrible on purpose?

On reg DVD too, please. Extended edition, or at the very least included in the extra stuff in the menu.
I mean come on, so much elevator and then it's cut short. *sad face* I was looking forward to seeing that piece intact.
For some known of stuff to not be included, honestly at the moment I feel like a kid the day after Christmas (a Christmas that went too fast) after finding out that a really hoped for gift I thought was a sure thing didn't end up happening.

What i want to see is an in depth, behind the scenes documentary of what happened to the movie.
It's blatantly obvious so much was changed on the fly as they were shooting and re-shooting and chopping out scenes to leave them on the cutting room floor.....THAT is where the interesting story is at! HOW and WHY and WHAT happened to this film.
I think I'll actually buy the DVD just for the commentary tracks....

He was just following orders. Blame Platinum Dunes. That's why they hired him.

I think showing just Leo get the weapon is fine. You get the point of what's happening,
